As stated I have the Inspiron 5720 with Windows 7, for the most part it has done very well.

The main display has gone to a grey/white color, no obvious cracks in the display. When I start this laptop up I am able to log in and navigate by my own memory of what the log-in process is.

At this point I am actually using an external monitor on the very same laptop. The main display on the laptop is duplicate to this one.  I have gone through the control panel and display settings to attempt to make sure the refresh settings are correct. I have even opened up the laptop (not the display) to see if there was a loose connection, and all looks fine.

I have read a few of the posts here as well to get some answers, but nothing I have seen applies to my issue. Like I stated the monitor has a light grey/white color to it, not black.

Is there some sort of setting that someone might suggest to get my main display back? Somehow that I can use the laptop display to show properly?

Is anybody else having issues when the xps12 resumes from sleep mode. About half of the time mine wont resume and  I have to make it reboot. I have also noticed that there are a lot of entries in the windows event log that say iaStorA and the details says

Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort0, was issued.

there are a lot of these entries about every 4 to 5 minutes. Does this mean there is something wrong with the ssd drive? My device is the XPS12 core i5 haswell based device. All of the windows updates and drivers are current. When I first got it the sleep problem didn't exist. But the windows store stopped working and the only solution was to refresh the installation. Since doing the refresh I now have the sleep issue and that entry in the event log mentioned above.

Hi Team,

 

My Inspiron N5050  went off while watching movie due to low battery. now I am trying to on it but goes up to dell logo with cd drive sound then a cursor appears on black screen and again it goes to dell logo with cd drive sound and this goes on. I Have tried below things:

 

1)without battery and power supply, pressed power button for 45 second ..and then with power supply but without battery tried booting but again same issue.

2)run the diagnosis but it went successful without any error.

3)tried resetting default setting in booting option

4) tried pressing all functional keys to invoke safe mode but its not prompting for advanced booting mode so not able to run in safe mode also.

Hello guys, a few weeks ago I bought the latest model of alienware 17. I always have the laptop on a cooling pad. I was watching youtube (laptop was not plugged in) and suddenly everything became really laggy. I plugged in the power with no effect, I restarted, looked in bios and said that the battery was disabled because it was above normal operating temperatures.

I can't help but notice that the front of the laptop (including bottom) where the battery is gets abnormally hot and that if not plugged in, it will keep getting hotter and hotter until it disables again. I looked at the diagnostics (in F12 one-time boot) and when I had let the battery cool down it was 35 °C degrees. When the laptop is plugged in it does not become warm. When it's on battery it will keep rising in temperature slowly.

What should I do? Should I ask for a replacement battery? Should I stop using the laptop to prevent damage? I have to use my laptop daily.

45 minutes ago my battery was 22 °C and now when I touch the front (between the speakers) it feels medium-warm. Never noticed the warmth coming from there before until yesterday.

I wouldn't mind that it gets a little bit hot (as batteries usually do) but if it gets hot to the point my computer locks itself down to a low prestation speed (0.75 ghz processor, ...) I cannot ignore it.

In the diagnostics software it says my battery's health is 99%.

I use my computer for a prolonged time every day (necessary for school, freetime, work). I usually charge my battery to 100% then let it drain to 10% while i work as with my previous laptop this kept the battery living for longer.

Upgraded my hard drive to SSD, did a clean install only to find mouse, touchpad and screen lock drivers are not getting installed properly for my Inspiron 3147 2-in-1-laptop.

Installed these drivers for my laptop from Dell's website:

What's happening is there isn't any:
"Delll Touchpad" item in device manager under mouse
"Synaptics HD Device" item in device manager "Human Interface Device
"Simple Device Orientation Sensor" item in device manager under Sensors
" Lightweight Sensors Root Enumerator" and "Microsoft Device Association Root Enumerator" item  in device manager under Software Devices

These five items are critical to getting the touchpad and keyboard to be disabled when in tablet mode and also allowing the mouse to work properly when in laptop mode.

Does anyone know how to resolve this?

Ever since I updated my XPS 13 BIOS to A10 based on recommendations to fix my physical click trackpad problem, the cpu fan would randomly make loud rattling noises at certain fan speeds.

Sometimes when it spins fast enough or slow enough the rattling is gone and all that is left is the normal whirling. It is really irritating that it randomly goes into the RPM range for rattling and throws my concentration off and gathers people's attention in a library.

Not only is the clickpad still a hit and miss, I now have fan noises to worry about which I can't get used to unlike the clickpad. It is my priority to fix the fan noise now. What should I do? Is it possible to backdate the BIOS? Will that be recommended? Will it solve the fan problem?

I've a problem with my hard disk (HDD) in Inspiron N4050 laptop. I use Windows 8 (x64) OS and I got a pop up by my Windows and discover this problem by launching Diagnostic and got Error Code 2000-0151 with Validation of 1427 (Validation 1427). What are steps i take immediately to save my HDD?

My laptop ran a test and gave me Error code 2000-0142 validation 96805 msg: hard drive 0-s/n S2TBJB0C217591, sorry self test unsuccessful. What does that means? I installed firefox on my laptop and it started acting up, I can only use it on safe mode, help please!

Greetings,

Anyone knows where I can find windows 7 driver for Inspiron 13 7000 Series. I formatted my laptop to windows 7 because I dont like windows 8 but the only driver found in the dell website is for windows 8 only.

I really need the windows 7 driver especially the network controller. I will appreciate any replies.

Hi!
About 2 months ago I got a brand new Dell Inspiron 15 (3537) for my 18th birthday, and for my very first year of college.
So far I have really liked my laptop, except for this one problem: About a month ago, while watching some series, I discovered that it had 2 bright marks on the screen. I have made some pictures, but It's a bit difficult see, in real life it's pretty obvious that they're there.+
Ofcourse, ever since I kept noticing them. It's like they're stuck somewhat under my screen, and is mostly visible on a white or a bright background. I waited a couple of weeks, to see if they might disappear, but they didn't. I asked my brother-in-law, who had bought the laptop for me, what I should do, and he said to just contact the support, since the warranty is still running, so here I am.
What should I do?

My dell venue 8 pro win 8.1 tablet is a piece of junk! I've bought many dell products, but this one is a total slug. I also own the venue 8 and 7 android tablets and I love them. I finally bought the Inspiron 11 3000 series tablet/laptop and I love it! Anyone else have problems with one of these?

I'm on windows 8.1.

How do I disable clicking on the touch pad? So that when I just tap it without depressing the button it  doesn't click.

I often end up accidentally clicking things while moving my finger around on the pad to go to another part of the screen.

The settings button in Inspiron 7720 SE doesn't work after upgrading to Win 8.1

I have BIOS version A16

Quickset 11.1.45

The WaveMaxx audio button and the Instant Launch button works perfectly.

Is there any solution?

I have a Latitude E5530 that will not startup. No preboot screen even with the hard drive removed.

I reseated the memory. I removed the battery and plugged in the power adapter.

I have the correct power adapter for the model.

Any ideas what could cause this to shut down shortly after the power button is pushed and before the preboot environment starts?

There is no apparent damage to the case.  No signs of liquid or dry spill.

This laptop is usually seated in a docking station. No apparent damage to that either. Power LED is lit when docked.

Sometimes my Start button stops working. When I hover the mouse over it, nothing happens. I switch users and sign back on myself and it works.

Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. I showed a picture of the start button. If that is what you call it.

I want to install a second HDD (TOSHIBA SATA HDD 2H01).  It is a drive sent by Dell as a replacement for my primary drive, and it is already IMAGED.

Question:  If I install it in the second drive bay - then all I will have to do is restart and format the drive?  As in follow the guidance below posted by Chris M? 

Go into your BIOS at startup by pressing F2, then highlight your new drive, press enter to enable it. Save changes and bootup the computer. Then go into Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Computer Management, Storage, Disk Management. Right Click on your drive to format it, and then assign an drive letter. Note: This can be done only for an internal Non-RAID disk. Not for an external HDD or RAID Enabled disks.

Had laptop since early May 2014.  Then suddenly for the last 2 months every hour the system Hard Drive and CPU without warning goes to work and finally crashes the unti. Have tried many things but to no avail: re imaged the system, used several windows OS starting options, and used different options of the "msconfig" but the hourly crashing is just keep happening.
