My laptops hinges seem to have been disattached

Greetings! So interms of Speed and processing the laptop's quite impressive its just that these past week aside from heating up and slowing down quite excessively the hinges of the laptop(the one that connects the screen to the keyboard if i got it right) the right one got disattached. Im worried sick that sooner or later it'll be 2 different pieces of hardware. I wanted to ask if its still possible to fix this type of damage and if so the possible fixing rate that Im put up to. Please respond Thank you. And also Im from the philippines and my laptop was saudi so it isnt likely for me to come around a dell center and get it repaired.

Warranty expiring early

I bought a Dell XPS 12 earlier this year in February, however, for some reason my warranty started in October last year.

Is there a reason for this? Is it possible to get the four/five months of warranty that I "lost"?

(sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, but there doesn't seem to be anywhere to post it)

15R 5521 dead (nearly dead)

My 15R 15521 does not power up except for the white LED on the front. The screen is just black. No logos or anything. Have tried holding the power button down for 20 seconds already and also tried powering up with the fn button held down. No beeps. No screen. Just the steady light. If I hold the power button the light will turn off again. Have tried hooking up to the HDMI port but nothing there either.

Any advice on further diagnosis?

Hello,

I consider buying the XPS 15 - 9530 but when I look at the specs of the model I'd like here in France (it's the same in UK) the proc mentioned is a "HSW i7-Entry NV GT 750M 2G"

I've never heard about that and there is no indication of speed or anything, does anybody knows about it ?

Thanks

Inspiron3421 factory backup failure - stops after creating first DVD

I have a Dell Inspiron 3421 (with Windows 8) bought last september (sept. 2013).

I have been trying to take the Factory image copy on to DVDs, but he Dell Backup and Recovery version 1.7.1.2 does not seem to work properly when using the "Factory Backup" options with Discs.

The first disc gets written, verified and ejected.
But when i insert a new blank disc as requested, it gets ejected in a short while - without anything being written to it - and the request to insert a new blank disk gets repeated again. On putting another blank DVD, same thing repeats.
Also, the DVD, in the File Explorer, shows up as "DVD RW Drive (D:) Recovery". Even after removing the DVD, the drive lists this. That first disc that gets written, contains folders: Boot, EFI, preload, and Recovery, and files: AUTORUN.INF, BOO.MGR, BOOTMGR, BOOTMGR.EFI, MASTERLOG, and Media.ico.

I tried this backup process with the same results. i have tried it more than 5 times - at different times with varying intervals/ time-gaps.

I haven't tried to use a USB flash drive, and would prefer not to - if i can avoid it.

i want this (factory image) as an insurance, before i upgrade to Win8.1.

i hope someone here can help me.
I have tried the Dell help desk, and the person said something like - "this kind of things happen. i will send you the original windows install CD instead"
so, i have that... but what about the drivers and other things included in the factory backup image?

regards.

biren.

iNSOIRON 1545 NO FACTORY RESTORE

I'm trying to restore my Dell Inspiron 1545 with Windows Vista back to the Factory Settings, but I keep running into the same problem.

I know I have to hit F8 on the Dell Logo appears and that will bring up the Advanced Boot Options menu. And that part is fine. But when I go to select Repair Your Computer, it just starts Windows normally. I've tried this many times and every time it just started Windows normally.

What am I doing wrong, and what do I have to do differently? I know I have the right option highlighted, but it's not doing what all the Forums and Support threads say it should. I have also pulled up F12, and Advanced Boot Options does not come up

Annoying Internet speed drop

So I've bought an Inspiron 15r 5537 from dell a year ago (I wish I hadn't) and it has been nothing but rubbish. First of all after a few months of using it the PC went bust. It crashed, it would show me error messages and it would take a century to boot up. I called dell support and they've sent a technician to fix the issue, apparently there was something wrong with the motherboard. Plus there was these weird vertical lines in the screen. They fixed those issues for me which I was quite happy. 2 months later I noticed that there is a super annoying blue dot on my screen, besides that whenever I connect to any modem (wirelessly/Ethernet) , the wifi speed drops down so bad. From 10 Mbps to 500kbps. I called dell again and asked for their help on this but they said that my system is out of warranty and if I needed support I'd have to pay a 129$ or so. I've searched the entire web for a solution and I couldn't find any that can help me. I've updated all my drivers and still. What's is funny is that sometimes it decides to work just fine, and sometimes it says no. Now I'm really mad about it. Does anybody have a solution for this?

Thanks

Graphics Drivers on Inspiron 15z 5523

Hello,

Can you please check these new graphics drivers for my model.

Intel and nVIDIA released these two new drivers for 3rd generation U-processors.

- Intel HD Graphics 4000 version "15.33.22.64.3621"

- GeForce 340.52 Driver

I installed them a month ago but the new Intel graphics driver "Right-Click" context menu causes "Explorer.exe" memory leak every time I right-click with mouse.

And now I am using your drivers. [:D] Intel "10.18.10.3277" this was released in Oct 2013 but you haven't updated this for one year. [^o)] I am also using the nVIDIA one which is version 331.65 and I think these outdated drivers are causing my system to hang on shut down sometimes when I let an application to shut down Windows while the display is turned off. This always happens and I think it's related to the graphics drivers.

Will you update the graphics drivers in "Inspiron 15z 5523" page? Or can you tell me how can I overcome this "explorer.exe" memory leak caused by the Intel Right-Click context menu?

WHen i put my computer to sleep and resume it immediately the trackpad will work, but if i wait long enough that the computer locks before resuming from sleep the trackpad will not work. This is too expensive of a machine to be doing this to me. was this issue ever resolved i couldnt find anything in the forums, only temporary fixes.

xps12 volume buttons

I got my xps12 in and did all of the windows updates. At that point the windows store would no longer work and the only way to fix it was to refresh the windows installation. After doing this the volume buttons on the side no longer work. Is this a known issue with the volume buttons? Is there a fix for it?

Upgrade XPS12 SSD drive

I recently purchased the core i5 version of the xps12 which came with a 128gb ssd drive. After having and seeing how much space was available I realized that this drive is just too small to make this system useful. I really like it and want to upgrade the ssd to a 240gb or 256gb drive. I have a couple of questions about how to do this. Will any ssd drive work or is a proprietary size? If I can just purchase a 2.5in drive does it need to be 7mm or 9mm? How would I get my windows installation onto it? Do I go thru the procedure to create an iso of the windows install and then install from and external dvd drive or usb stick? Will this cause an issue with the windows activating?

Inspiron 1450 always booting to Boot Manager with no timeout and lots of beeping

$

A friend's Inspiron 1450 (which used to boot automatically into Windows 7) is now always going straight to Windows Boot Manager and there's lots of beeping. Here's what I see and hear:

- I turn on the laptop and the Dell logo screen with the F2 Setup and F12 Boot Options appears.

- Then the screen goes black and the underline cursor appears top left, jumps down a couple of lines, goes "beep...beep..."  (I can't tell whether it's one or two beeps before...

- ...the  Windows Boot Manager appears and the beeps become rapid "beep-beep-beep-beep-beep-beep-beep-beep-beep-etc". The beeps don't stop until I hit a key - I've only tried hitting spacebar (just stops the beeping), tab (select Windows Memory Diagnostics), and enter (boot Windows 7)

On the Windows Boot Manager there is only one boot option (Windows 7), and there is NO timeout/countdown message. I.e. this is what I see:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Windows Boot Manager
Choose an operating system to start, or press TAB to select a tool:
(Use the arrow keys to highlight your choice, then press ENTER. )
     Windows 7                                                                                >
To specify an advanced option for this choice, press F8.
Tools:
     Windows Memory Diagnostic
ENTER=Choose        TAB=Menu            ESC=Cancel
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I've tried setting the timeout to 5 seconds (and disabling it to automatically boot) using all three methods in this article  http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2285-operating-system-start-change-display-list-time.html (i.e. using Start and Recovery, msconfig, and bcdedit) but none of them have any effect. There is still NO timeout in the Windows Boot Manager.

I've also reset the BIOS to default settings and that made no difference. F2 Setup gives me "Dell Inc. Aptio Setup Utility - American Megatrends Inc" with BIOS version A03, Product Name Dell Vostro 1450. I've looked up the BIOS beep codes ( http://www.bioscentral.com/beepcodes/amibeep.htm) and it may be that the first one/two beeps indicate a memory fault?

But I also tried running the Windows Memory Diagnostic from the Boot Manager - it told me that no problems were found.

(There are two other problems on this laptop which may or may not be related (causes/symptoms?): (1) The keyboard has a problem - 2, w, s, x and the arrow keys don't work. An external USB keyboard gets round that. (2) shortly after booting into Windows 7 there's a a windows alert dialogue "Do you want to change the colour scheme to improve performance", which keeps popping up, and performance is indeed poor, making the laptop almost unuseable)

TIA...

Dell 1464 not turning on

$

My 4-year-old Dell Inspiron 1464 was working fine till yesterday. While working in between, I put the laptop in sleep for nearly half an hour and when I came back I saw some multicoloured grains on the screen, and the system wasn't responding. So, I turned it off and tried to switch it back on. But, it wasn't working.

I tried repeating the restarting process with and without the battery, in a couple of times it didn't switch on, in a couple of times the abovementioned problem repeated, and in some cases it made a noise in the boot screen and didn't boot.
