When I touch my touchpad it sometimes selects text, sometimes open charms bar, sometimes changes the window, etc. Very hard to use. It is not enjoyable to try to do anything at all.
Please help with this problem. Thanks.

I had put my laptop hidden from my view for half a year so I could focus more on my job. When I decided to use it again, it won't start up. When I hit the power button, it shows power being used, gives me a glimpse of the Dell start up logo, then shuts off. I removed the ram and it gives me 2 beeps, which I expected, and actually stays on for the period before it auto shuts off. But when I put the ram back in, it goes back to the original problem. I get no beeps, nothing in between the 2 seconds it shows me the logo, and won't let me have a chance to enter the bios or safe mode.
Laptop:
Inspiron 17R - N7010 Laptop
256 GB SSD
Certified Refurbished
Processor: Intel Core i5-450M Processor (3M cache, 2.40 GHz)
1 GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470
4 GB DDR3 SDRAM 1333MHz (2 DIMMs)
64BIT Operating System
17.3 inch HD+ WLED
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium
Notes. I purchased this laptop in 2011, and it had never had problems before.
I am in the market for a new laptop after a couple of years and getting quite annoyed by these two new features.
1. Why is it so hard to configure a laptop with the desired specs?
2. Who decides the minimum resolution for displays?
How can the minimum for a 15.6" screen be 1366 x 768 with next available one 1920 x 1080? Why is 1366 x 768 even an option for a 17.3" screen?
Here are some sensible minimum resolutions for various resolutions. At a minimum, these resolutions should be an available option.
13" to 14": 1366 x 768
15" to 15.6": 1400 x 900
17" to 18": 1400 x 900, preferably 1920 x 1080

Hello. I know this has been asked alot, but I just want to confirm if my guesses are right.
I have an N7010 which I bought in 2010, the only hardware I upgraded was the memory from 4gb to 8gb (about 2012), aside from that, no problems until now when the poor thing just shut down with no apparent reason. One thing to note though is that the battery is long busted since late last year, so the adaptor is the one powering it, but the battery is still plugged inside the thing.
What I did is disassembling the thing and cleaned the inside because it's dusty, replaced the CMOS (which I know doesn't have anything to do with startup problems), assembled it back, and the thing doesn't start.
I did the FN Power <-> Power FN <-> and the Power long presses to observe some things. What I noticed has something to do with the battery indicator light. So first I did the combinations mentioned with just the battery and nothing happens. Next I plugged in the adaptor (battery is plugged as well), the light flashes white for a bit then disappears, and when I do the combinations, the battery indicator lights blinks white (consistent blinking), and when I release the buttons, the indicator is stuck with the white light for a bit, and then it starts blinking in an alternate white and amber lights. Laptop doesn't turn on by the way.
So hopefully my guess is right that the problem is with the battery (that's an obvious) and the DC power jack. Or is it? If you have any other thoughts please inform me.
Thanks a lot.
This problem has been slowly ramping up for the last few months. The machine does in fact get dangerously hot to hot to touch and consumes a full charged 9 cell battery in about 40 minutes. The temp on all four cores are running at 100 C yes that is 218 degrees Fahrenheit which may be the thermal limit on the processors. I have verified that the CPU fan is working and is clear of any debris that could be obstructing the airflow which appears to be normal. The heat sink seems to be fine so there probably isn't an issue there. One thing that I've noticed is that the Intel monitor on the processor speed (which is a 2.8) is constantly in boost running between 3.00 and 3.50. Even when the laptop is just sitting it is constantly being put into power boost. I've upgraded to the v16 bios and replaced some other drivers but the problem still exists. If anyone knows what is causing this and has a solution I'm all ears.[6]
I cannot find out anything about this. It seems I can't purchase a battery separately.
I'm just worried how much it's going to cost to get the battery replaced if only Dell can do it.
I would not have purchased this computer had I realized the battery was sealed.
I wouldn't bother to replace, but the computer is not functioning normally even when plugged in.

Hi
I've got Dell Inspiron 15R 5537 with 1 TB space, and when I bought it, there was only (C) partition, but I want to give the (C) drive just 200 GB and add new partition to store music, movies, games ... etc, and I want another partition to store a system image.
So I want a save method to make these 2 partition without format (C) because I've got Windows 8 Pro installed on it.
Hi,
I have a 3 years old N5110 computer. Since it became really slow even after formatting the computer, I was thinking about changing the hard drive. Unfortunately, I don't know how to check whether the drive is compatible before I actually buy it and go to the technician.
Fo example, would that suit me? and if not, what is the spec I should be looking for?
also, would i be able to keep the optic drive? I do use my burner occasionally.
I've got a vostro 3300, but am missing the sticker on the laptop and no longer have the install disks. It is running win 7 pro sp1 32 bit and I'm trying to get windows media center to recognize my silicondust homerun prime cablecard. I had it working at one point, but now I have to reactivate it. The issue is that my windows product key as it is dispayed in belarc advisor results the following wmc error: "Activation Error. You have entered the activation key for windows, Enter the activation key to enable support for digital cable." Belarc advisor has a note beside the windows product key to change product key under properties, but on this OEM laptop there is no option to do so.
Is there a utility to find out the product key as it would have appeared on the sticker affixed to the bottom of the laptop. Would this key be any different than the one displayed by belar advisor - Key: 32KD2-K9CTF-M3DJT-4J3WC-733WD

Can i use mSATA ssd instead of WanTV on Dell XPS L501X ?
I have a problem with my SD card reader on my Dell Vostro 1710 laptop :
After installing the appropriate driver, my SD reader still does not work, or rather, not completely. Let me explain: When I insert an SD card, I can not view it, and the computer does not seem to recognize it (no display anywhere) BUT the computer emits the sound of a device removed when I remove the SD card.
Another thing: If I insert a Micro SD adapter with a micro SD card that has been previously recognized by the computer (via a USB adapter, for example, because the SD slot does not) it works! But if it's a micro SD as the computer does not know it does not work.
For information, the driver for "O2Micro Integrated MMC SD controller" and "O2Micro Integrated MS / MSPRO / xD controller" is the same for windows 7 32bit and 64bit (it chose the right version at install) but it worked under 32bit before I reinstall Windows 7 64bit.
So, could someone help me?

Hi, I got an Dell XPS L502x i5 laptop, it was running fine till yesterday i decided to use it at my friends place. when the battery was close to finish i decided to plug in my charger into the electric socket. within seconds i saw the battery charging icon on my desktop was showing orange color instead of showing usual charging animation. than i smelt something burning and when i touched the adapter it was too hot and i immediately pulled the adapter wire from the laptop first than disconnect it from the power socket. than i switched off the laptop and just to be sure again i switched it on and it booted up fine.
My electrician told me that the reason was wrong polarity on the socket.
i want to know whether there could be some damage in my laptop due to this polarity and if yes how to test it. i read in one post on other forum regarding ac adapters that in some laptops there will be fuse for protection . i want to buy new ac adapter (130watts) my charger was from lite-on technology .
also please suggest whether i can get 130 watts charger with correct readings from other suppliers other than dell
Hi,
I have a Studio 1555 with Windows Vista that I'd like to get back to factory settings, so my mother can have it. All the instructions i found tell you to use F8 to get to the Advanced Boot Options. F8 does absolutely nothing on my laptop. I have F2 Setup and F12 Boot Options, but again, F8 does nothing.
How do I restore the laptop to factory settings?
Thanks.
