Hi.

I've got a Dell Inspiron 15 3521-7147 with Windows 8.1 on a board. Also I've got an CD disc with my Elementary OS system.

I'd like to boot from this CD to do some things with it, but I don't know how, because of UEFI on my machine. I tried to follow this instruction, but I'm stuck on the step when we should choose "file system list": I don't have an option with "/CD" at the end, I see others, but not that one.

So how do I boot from an optical disc or a flash drive like I do in the usual BIOS?

I have dell 3537 laptop. I had made a recovery usb of windows 8 using the dell pre-installed program and then I upgraded to windows 8.1. But now when I want to install the recovery copy of windows 8 from usb, the system is not picking the recovery copy. The system finds for an image file in the recovery but does not find it.

Kindly tell me a way to install recovery copy of windows 8 on dell 3537. Attached is the image of the recovery that I had made before upgrading to windows 8.1.

Hi All,

I'm sorry if this is the wrong forum but its driving me nuts.

I recently purchased a 2nd hand Alienware m17 laptop. Everything went well and it works like a charm.

I would like t transfer the ownership to my name, and even did this twice through the website (and with the previous owner) but i get no response after the giver 5-10 business days.

I called the customer service, but they told me to do this using the website. Is there anything more i can do?

I just re-installed the operating system (microsoft XP service pack 2) on my Dell Inspiron 600m. I did this because I was getting a clipping/latency issue when streaming audio and it was bugging me. 

I thought I might as well reinstall everything, so I ran the operating system installation CD. 

The problem occurred once I got all my drivers loaded and found that I was using an outdated version of Internet Explorer. When I go the the MS website, they no longer (as of April 2014) provide upgrades. 

So now what? I can't access most websites and/or download a newer version of Explorer or Chrome.

Also, it looks like on startup I'm given the choice to run either of two version of XP professional, so I must have duplicated the system rather than overwriting it.   

Is there any way to:

1) Load a newer version of explorer or chrome using an outdated version of explorer that can't seem to access most websites?

2) Really strip this machine back down to the factory condition and upgrade

After a windows auto update, the screen has gone black with barely visible icons.

I can run an external monitor fine.

I tried rolling back to a point before the problem, to get ride of the updates, but no change.

It's only about a year old, any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have a Dell Vostro 1550 with windows 8.1 installed in it.

Suddently my computer is giving lot of blue screen errors.

And all the error messages that were coming up on the blue screen were pointing towards some memory problem.

I tried running dell diagonistics and got this errror in memory test

Error code 2000-0123

Validation 50944

Memory integrity test discrepency

What could this mean.? I tried searching for it on the internet and found nothing. Is it a bad news for me???

Unfortunately I did not make a back up disk when I recovered my system from hard drive I do not have Windows CD (came from factory already installed)CD to recover my system and cannot find any restore to put Windows 8 back to original install from factory. My question is how do I restore my laptop back to original settings from factory including windows 8 would upgrade to 8.1 correct the problems I am having with Windows 8

Thank you in advance, I have a dell Inspiron N4010 that I have taken ownership of, the laptop has a bios password and a hdd password, the previous owner was in a auto accident and suffered memory loss and can't remember the passwords, can you please help, I have the service tag and all error messages associated with the password errors. Hello guys,

Yesterday my computer stucked.I was trying to restart and its not loading windows anymore since then.

I was also trying to to use the "Repair Your Computer" option, but its not working either.

(im getting error 0x4001001300001002)

i was checking my computer with the 'Diagnostics' and i got another error "2000-0142". (Hard disk fail)

Is that my problem? should I just get a new hard drive and i will be fine?

I have Inspiron 15 3521 model which has intel core i5 3rd gen processor, intel HD graphics 4000, Windows 8.1 and network adapter Dell wireless 1703 802.11 b|g|n.

But it does not have support for wireless display (Wi-Di). I need to wirelessly display my laptop screen in Samsung led tv which supports miracast.

I have heard in some forum that changing the network adapter to intel centrino 2230 or Intel centrino advance 6235 will add Wi-Di support.

Please let me know what hardware and software changes do i need to make in laptop in order for it to support Wi-Di.

water poured on my keyboard this afternoon, and I wiped it off, but now my laptop will not boot. the power button turns on for some seconds and the laptop beeps twice and goes off again.

I have installed a 6gb/s ssd into my l521x; however, I am getting 3gb/s speeds (~250mb/s read and write)

Is there a setting to enable 6gb/s speeds on the l521x?

It appears the l521x has the HM77 chipset

which does support 6gb/s throughput

suggestions to fix this please?

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 3531, Windows 8.1, Synaptics driver 18.1.2.1. 

I don't know if it's me or the touch pad or what. So I am looking for advice. I am having multiple issues with the touch pad.

With two finger scrolling:

sometimes I get a tap while I am scrolling (ex. as I am scrolling through a google search page one of the links will be selected)

sometimes text will select (highlight the way you do when you want to copy) as I am scrolling.

as I am scrolling sometimes the page stutters

Tapping:

When I tap to select or to end drag, the touchpad doesn't always recognize my tap and I have to tap again. 

I have adjusted all the sensitivity type options, tap speed etc. But nothing seems to work. It is very frustrating. Ideas? Things I might be doing wrong? Better driver? Thanks

After getting wet near a bath tub my Dell emits 5 consistent beeps when starting up (with nothing loading). In my research, it was suggested to repalce the CMOS battery, done, yet still the same problem. Can anyone advise?

XPS 15 (L501X, Late 2010)

Service Tag: 1M6BTN1 | Express Service Code: 3517667533

Wouldn't boot, ran diagnostics and it returned the following error 2000 - 0146.  I checked the Dell support and it said to replace hard drive.  I purchased the new drive from Dell that was the recommended replacement.  The hard drive is now installed and I ran the diagnostics and it checked out okay.

How do I install the operating system (Windows 7 Home Premium) back on the system?  I only have Dell Drivers and Utilities disc.

Hello!

I just purchased a new Dell inspiron 3542. it came with a preinstalled Ubuntu. touch pad was working fine. I deleted Ubuntu and installed Windows 8. Now touch pad is not working and Wifi adapter is also not working. I swear its only 7 hours when i purchased this laptop. and facing these issues.

Ialso tried the drivers from dell website. downloaded and installed. my win8 is 64 bits.

please help me how to resolve it. is this issue is under warrantay?

I have a new Latitude E6440.  The fingerprint reader is not working.  When I log on it takes forever for it to decide that the "biometric authentication service" is not working.  It then asks me if I want to log on without it, using my password.  When I log on with the password everything proceeds normally.

Since I do not want to use the fingerprint reader - and prefer my password - can anyone tell me how to disable the biometric thingy?  I seem to remember that it has to be done in the bios...

Please give me step-by-step instructions - or point me to a website that provides the disabling procedure.

I recently replaced my hard drive and did a fres install of my window 7. I go to the Dell Downloads and try to redownload the stage software and I get an application error. My service tag is listed on dell and in my BIOS. Since I have the JBL dock I would like to have stage since it is required for the Dell dock station to work. I have attached a picture of the error I get.
