Hello, I own an Alienware M14x and am thinking I'd like to replace the existing blu-ray drive with an additional hard disk drive.
I've had the bottom cover off and it appears that the blu-ray can come out but I need to know where to connect the SATA cable from the motherboard and I will probably need a carriage tray to hold the drive. Any help will be appreciated.

ok so a couple of days ago my hard drive got corrupted on my alienware m17x r3 so i decided to do a clean reinstall of windows 7. i had to download a windows 7 iso file to reinstall it because i didnt get an alienware disk when i bought the machine, (second hand). the install went fine but i dont have any/all drivers installed and my laptop wont connect to the internet or anything (im assuming its because of lack of drivers.)
i have been looking on the internet (on a different laptop) for solutions to this. i also tried to find an alienware disk but couldnt. all the guides ive seen require an internet connection to install the drivers from.
basicly what im asking is how do i get the thing back to the factory default settings without an alienware disk? i also cant use alienrespawn because ive already reinstalled windows 7 (i realise now that i should have used alienrespawn instead)
also if possible i would like it to be the same as the first day it was unboxed ie. with the alienrespawn etc

Hello, I'm researching adding RAM to my computer. I need to know the choices in capacity and configuration, if I can add just one module or pairs, and if I can keep the old ones or if they must be removed. My computer is broken and I need a service tag to replace the part or check the warranty but the service tag sticker is blank and I can't turn the laptop on to scan for the number. How can I find my product and add it to my list without it?

I cannot get a 6TB hdd attached to a 3.0 USB docking station to show up in explorer.
Is there a way to fix this?
I just received a new Dell chromebook for my birthday over a week ago. At first I entered a bunch of personal info to get it going. It seemed to work just fine that day. I came back to it a couple days later and forgot my login, password, etc. I called Dell and talked with 3 different tech & consumer service guys who wasted my time and theirs in response to "How can I just get it back to where it was a few days ago so I can use it?" Right now it won't keep bookmarks, allow a home page, etc. It considers me a "guest". I feel burned. It makes me feel like a computer novice. Even the background screen seems unchangeable. I followed online instructions for a new password, but it doesn't work. How can I get control of my machine to the point that it actually works FOR me?

I upgraded the Bios on a dell inspiron N5050 from 03 to 05 now the processor is stuck on 800mhz I need to revert back to 03 But my battery is dead and the Bios wont allow me to revert the bios ..Its saying I need 10 percent battery power to run the bios upgrade .. I would appreciate someone telling me how to use the CMD to revert the bios .. Here is how I typed it in to the Bios C:\Users\max>cd Desktop But it doesn't work to get me to the desktop to run the bios with out the battery. so I must be typing it wrong... A short while back I upgraded the Bios to A05 using the CMD and it was successful

Plz read the post fully in order to understand the problem.The laptop is now 2 years old.It was running fine and suddenly one day it turned itself off and after 2-3 seconds it powers up automatically and windows boots normally.First I thought it was a power issue so i replaced my Dell 130W charger with a new charger also 130W.Hopefully the problem was solved and my lappy ran fine for 2 weeks but suddenly it started to shut down playing games.But this time around it didn't powers on itself automatically.Pressing the power button after it turns off powers up the lappy and windows just boots normally like nothing happened. Then the first thing that comes in mind is overheating but i doubt since i cleaned the heatsinks myself and also replaced the thermal paste with a new one.Anyway I downloaded temp monitoring software and the max CPU temps were only 81c and max gpu temps were only 77c.Now these temps are absolutely fine.Then i thought it was the game itself so I ran 2-3 different games and it happens but its not overheating.Sometimes it happens after 5-10 minutes and sometimes i can play for 2-3 hours straight without any shut downs.Windows 8.1 was installed since 6 months and was running absolutely fine up until now.So the next thing i factory restored my laptop,formatted the whole data and installed windows 7 x64 which originally shipped with and i installed all original drivers which came with the CD.The problem is also happening in windows 7.I am not using any third party antivirus software.The thing is when I am playing games the in game character starts moving forward like im pressing and holding that key and then after 2-3 seconds it shuts down.In short I knew the lappy is going to be powered off because the in game character starts moving like im pressing and holding that key which i am not and then bam it powers off.No BSOD or any error comes.I checked windows events and it states (event 41) the computer restarted without cleanly shutting down first.All bug codes are 0.Also i removed battery and plugged in directly but same thing happens.
Plz note that im using latest BIOS which is a11.I am really running out of ideas here.
I have an I5 2540m upgrade that is running at 800Mhz only. So I thought the processor was bad and replaced it with the original I3 and still only 800Mhz. No turbo boost no 2.6 Ghz for the i5 .. Both processor's staying at 800mhz and wont increase ..Iv tested the processors with Intel's processor diagnostic tool and both processors failed the CPU frequency tests. I also tested all components with My dell tests that indicate all components are Good ....Everything passed my dell tests
I did upgrade the bios to the latest one a few days ago From A03 to A05 ...That was before the i5 upgrade
Hi guys, I have a Dell Inspiron E1505 and I am having some issues with it. About 3 months ago I left my house for less than a week, and did not take my Computer with me. 6 Days later I come back and my computer would not show anything on the screen when I turned it on. I thought maybe if I leave it something will happen. It has been 3 months and every day I try to turn it on, and this is what the computer does: the first thing I do is turn it on, and for a Nano-second the screen is displaying something. Then it goes black, but you can still hear the computer running, even though the screen is a no show. I have tried using the monitor but even the monitor does not displaying anything, but only for a couple of second the monitor screen reads "Entering Power Saving Mode". I have not used this computer in 3 months and I need help. Please help me with my issue. Thanks

Yesterday we had a blackout in my house. While I waited for the power to return I watched a movie on my laptop (i had the charger plugged in all the time) . When the laptop's battery was 10% i shut it down. 2 hours later the power returned, and I attempted to turn it on. The led lights turned on, but nothing else, i didnt hear fan sounds or any sign the computer orked other than the led lights. I already tried disconnecting the cable and battery and draining flea power. Help me please.

I'm having a 16 MBPS wifi internet connection.
But in normal mode I'm getting only 4 MBPS speed, but when I have tried in safe mode with networking the wifi connection is working perfect. I could nt able to find whats the problem with my normal mode. I searched dell communities and many threads saying its a wifi device problem.
if it is a wifi device problem it should not work in safe mode with networking.
Please give me some light on the problem. I'm getting irritated with this problem since many months.

My overall experience with computer purchase back in August 2007 has been a complete hoax. I have reached out to customer service about a purchase that I made around that time with my Dell Preferred Account.
There were certain components that was missing on my computer purchase at that time and was not completely aware of it until some time later. I was really upset because when I purchase my computer, I requested to have a DVD burner added. Not knowing, I did not have that component but customer service thought that provided me a favor by issuing me a $50.00 credit toward my bill. No, I wish they requested for the unit to be sent back and return back to me.
My account since then have been in collections and the amount that Dell is requesting for me to pay them is completely outrageous. Most of the charges that has accrued were from Collection Agencies tacking on their charges which is no way near the amount that I originally owed upon purchase.
The computer is not even worth the amount that I presently owe. I have reached out to their customer service team to work out a negotiable deal with the company themselves and not the collection agency but they Dell is unable to work with me.
There are explainable circumstances as to why I was not able to satisfy payments at that time. I am currently writing a letter to the dispute department and financial services. I am also in the process of taking further legal action due to a lawsuit that took place back in 2009 with Dell.
I am not asking for a free way out of the matter but I do feel that what I rightfully owed to the company should be what I pay not the additional charges that has accrued through the debt collector. I would appreciate any one providing me additional assistance about this matter. I still have the computer but not using it. The computer is still in great working condition but just not happy with the purchase at the time.
There are some areas within the contract and clauses that I feel that Dell did not fulfill on their end for me as the consumer and I would like to discuss ways that this matter can be resolved.

Hello, I have a Dell Inspiron 3520 that isn't starting. When I turn it on, the Dell logo appears and has a loading bar on the bottom with an option to press F12 for boot options on the bottom right corner. After it loads, it says "Preparing Automatic Repair" on the bottom then goes to a gray screen and remains there. I've tried pressing F8; nothing happens. I ran the diagnostic test on it and an error comes up as such:
Error Code 2000-0142
Validation- 117554
Msg: Hard Drive 0 - S/N WX81A92T8626, Short self test unsuccessful

Seems like this is a common issue with these computers. Same thing happening to my computer. My cord broke and battery needed replacing. Replaced both. I ended up flashing the Bios and it started charging the battery. Now after a day I am having same problem. UGH!!!!!!! Computer is 2 years old. Bought all the fancy warrantees and now that they are expired now everything is falling apart. Not happy. Suspicious! Is it that after two years Dell's products fall apart? If I have to spend anymore money on this expensive piece of junk I am going to buy new and it wont be a Dell. So I hope this is an easy fix.
My graphics is out of date, how can i do it upto date?
