Latitude 5440 LED damage
Unable to get the Targus Docking station to work with an external monitor
I have a Dell Ultrabook XPS13, when I purchased it I also bought the Targus Docking station. I has always been vary inconsistent in working with a TV using HDMI I would often have to reboot everything taking 30 min to regain the connection.
I recently tried to use a VGA monitor and I can't get anything to run. I can't get the Displaylink software to load after its been installed and I can't get anything on the extended monitor setting.
Very frustrated.
Any suggestion about what to do first.
I have already check the dell website for updated drivers and installed them and I upgraded the bios
Thanks
Inspiron 5748 constantly connects and disconnects from wireless internet connection.....
I can log on to the internet using a cable between my laptop and router, however when trying to get on line wirelessly my laptop logs on to my isp, then a couple of seconds later disconnects, then immediately reconnects, then disconnects and so on.....
I have other laptops wirelessly connecting to the same router without issues.
I have tried this link http://dell.to/14Xsnmd which did not identify any issues.
In a similar post, it was suggested to look at power saving functions, I’ve been and set these for maximum power.
This is probably connected... When the laptop first boots up, I get a pop-up box saying;
<quote>BTTray.exe Application error
The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b)
Click OK to close the application.</quote>
I’m not sure if I’m using the correct driver as I’ve found too many choices. Perhaps using my service tag number you could identify the correct driver to use please.
My laptop is an Inspiron 5748 running Windows 7 (not 8) Service tag<ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy> . It was supplied with Win 8, but due to instabilities I reformatted and now running with Win 7.
Thanks in advance for any help to get me on my way :)

Dell Inspiron N5010 is bad for Linux
Hi,
Ive been having a hard time using this dell laptop for Linux. Ive been stuck with this brightness problem for quite a long time now. Its said that the Linux has a problem on how dell bios handles brightness adjustments and it results in computer freeze when the brightness gets adjusted from linux. Why is Dell having such a hard time with Linux ?. Are dell laptops just for people who use windows ?. I know there are certain dell laptops with linux but do they want us to buy such pre-configured laptops ?. Why wouldnt they address these issues ?. Can i just get a refund for my dell laptop if im not so happy about it ?
Low performance when charger is plugged in
I got this laptop: Dell Inspiron N5010 with i5 2,40GHz processor, 8GB Memory and a Kingston SSD.
4 months ago my charger`s pin jack has broken, but it was still working. I noticed that the performance had decreased drastically when the charger was plugged in, so i bought a new charger, and all was working fine.
Last week my laptop was very laggy so i decided to reinstall Windows 8. After a clean installation, the same problems occurs with the charger.
When the charger is plugged in ( even if the battery is inside or outside ) the performance if very low. When i remove the charger and start the laptop with the battery the laptop works perfect.
The power options are set to High Performance in both cases.
So what should be the problem ?

Any way to prevent "The AC power adapter type cannot be determined" message on XPS M1710? (AC adapter is properly plugged in)
I often get the following message between the "Dell" and "Windows" screens when I boot up my XPS M1710 while it's plugged in:
The AC power adapter type cannot be determined. The system can only boot with a 130 W power adapter or greater. Strike the F1 key to shutdown. To resolve this issue, try to reseat the power adapter.
This message occurs when the AC adapter is fully and properly inserted, and it is the Dell AC adapter that came with my laptop. Is there anything I can do (possibly a registry hack) to force the computer to boot instead of displaying this message? After it gives me this message and I'm forced to press F1 to shut it down, it takes an extremely long time to get through the "Dell" screen on the ensuing boot (1 minute or so). My battery holds so little charge that when this happens, I have to power the laptop on while it's plugged in, unplug it when the progress bar on the "Dell" screen has completed, then plug it back in when the "Windows" screen appears.
This is an old laptop and I will soon be getting a new one, so I'm not going to spend the money to buy a new AC adapter and/or battery for the XPS M1710, but I'd like to fix this problem if it can be done otherwise.
Thanks!
Curious Problem - R14 5420
I turn on my laptop, the leds on but the system don't starts. nothing happen. So I try again, again, again, turn on , turno off, on , off, on , off .... and after some tries the systems starts normally ,and I can work 8-10 hour normally. But when I turn off, and go to use the laptop again, I need to do the process again...on, off, on, off, on ,off .
I found some people with the same problem, talking about de BIOS update, but I try update (my version A15) to A19 and happen the error:
Error 216 - Failed to read BIOS from ROM!STATUS =1604
But I don't know if a hardware problem or firmware. I tested memory, video card, battery BIOS, execute diagnostic dell, "my dell" tests, and everything ok.
Sometimes I need to do 20-30 times the process, turn on, off, on , off, on to starts the system.

Need a Link to Download WebCam Central Please
I no longer have a copy of WebCam Central after installing a new SSD with a fresh Win7 image in my Latitude e6520. Can Dell support kindly provide a link to download it please. I was able to find all other necessary drivers and software through the Service Tag tool. I've tried to follow the instructions to download it from My Account > Download Factory Installed Software (My Dell Downloads), however that requires an IE only Active X control to install which I can't get to run in IE 11.
What's the reason for making this software so difficult to obtain?
Can I have a direct link to download this without the need to install a browser plugin?
Thank you !
Touchpad gestures/scrolling/pointer not working after windows 8.1 update on Dell Inspiron 11 3137
Just got a brand new laptop, Dell Inspiron 11 3137, and updated to windows 8.1. The touchpad does not work properly now; gestures/scrolling/pointer not working. I've spent over 16 hours getting windows 8.1 installed and then troubleshooting this issue. I've contacted Dell; updated the driver from Dell, even tried installing the latest driver from Synaptic. I even tried setting the Synaptic app to run under the windows 8 version.
Touchpads have been around a long time. It's the last thing I expect not to work properly.
At this point I am ready to send the laptop back and call it quits on windows.
Can anybody help with this?
Dell Inspiron 1545 touch pad buttons not working
Last night the keypad on my laptop was working a little funny (the cursor was moving around by itself) so I rebooted and when it came back on the buttons weren't working. The keypad itself is functioning fine, I can still move the cursor, but both buttons won't work. They aren't stuck so I tried a system restore, but when it's finished and restarted the laptop I get a message saying it wasn't able to complete the restore fully. It seems to only have changed the time and date settings. Any ideas on how I could fix this?
Latitude E6410 laptop screen fades
Hello,
My laptop E6410 screen keeps fading in and out. It does not fade to black, the screen just dims. This only happens when it is OFF the docking station and plugged into the regular power adapter. It happens randomly and doesn't have any particular pattern to it.
Any advice would be helpful.
Thanks,
Stephanie

Precision m4800 very slow compared to similar laptop
My new Precision m4800 runs about 1 tenth the speed of similar notebooks we have. Novabench gave it a score of 330 but a similar laptop I have scored 1050. This looks like a bus issue.
Everything that requires memory transfer is about 10 percent the speed of a similar laptop.
I used NovaBench to test how my new m4800 is 1 tenth the speed of my older Toshiba laptop. My m4800 is a faster clock and more memory but still really really slow.
I have all the latest drivers form the Dell website installed
I think it is a bus driver memory driver thing. Files copied to the same hard drive work at about 300 mb a second. All other CPU, memory, and file transfer operations are 1 tenth the speed as measured by NovaBench I also have the latest bios installed
SOLVED
The power supply to my docking station was not the right amperage for this laptop. This put the memory in slow mode . The power supply was from my previous laptop but I kept the same docking station. With a newer power supply 9 AMPS the problem went away immediately. TRY THIS Run on battery and see if your laptop gets faster all of a sudden. Reboot to see the results.Nvidia Graphics for Dell 7000 7537
