Hi Everyone,
Does anyone also face this problem whereby USB 3.0 portable HDDs when plugged into the USB 3.0 ports do not work but work normally when plugged into the USB 2.0 port? This problem is similiar to others who have posted in this forum.
Using Renesas version 2.0.30.0, Intel(R) 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset .. Express Root Port 1,2,4,5,6, version 9.2.0.1015
The problem only occurred in the last 2 weeks. I've had the laptop for about 5 months.
1) When plugging the USB 3.0 portable HDD into the USB3.0 left port, i can see the light on the portable HDD but nothing else happens. When plugged into the rear 3.0 port, the message that keeps coming up is that the HDD needs to be reformated. When I click reformat, the portable HDD cannot be read. When I plug the HDD into the right side 2.0 port, the laptop is able to read it normally.
2) When I plug another USB 2.0 portable HDD into any of these 3.0 ports, there is no problem. The 2.0 HDD can be read ok.
3) Called Dell and they came to replace the USB 3.0 daughter board but the problem persists.
4) Updated the bios and chipset. Problem still persists.
4) Did a "restore to factory" reformat..... the USB 3.0 ports are able to read the USB 3.0 portable HDD.
5) Did the normal Windows 7 automatic updates.... the USB 3.0 ports FAILED to read the USB 3.0 portable HDD.!!!
6) In the Device Manager, I've also unticked the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" for all 3 'Generic USB Hub' and both the 'USB Root Hub'. problem still persists.
HELP.... Has anybody got solutions or suggestions? DELL Technicians have ran out of suggestions. Moreover, when I asked them, most said this is the 1st time they heard of this problem. They obviously have not read the many posts on this forum....
I do not wish to reinstall everything again and stop the windows 7 from updating. So if there are better solutions out there please help, or maybe my experience can help DELL engineers come up with a better patch... thanks.
