Could someone help me out, im not sure which processors and/or graphics cards are available for me to get and use with this laptop, if neccesary ill end up just gettin a new system from somewhere.

The current specs are as follows:

Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU T4300 @2.10Ghz

Memory: 3.00GB

System: 64bit operating system (vista)

Graphics: ATI Mobility Radeon HD3650

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dell SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Docking Station Model: D3000 losing 2nd monitor connection

My Dell SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Docking Station Model: D3000 is connected to my Dell Inspiron 17R SE 7720 as well as two external Disk drives, an external DVD drive, Printer and speakers as well as an external Monitor.  Recently I took my laptop on a trip and when I returned, when I reconnected it to the docking station it no longer recognized my external monitor.

I have gone through several diagnostic steps not limited to unistalling and reinstalling the DisplayLink Software and accidentally bumped into only one action which seems to work - Power failing the Docking station (Pulling the power cord).  Unfortunately, this is a pretty serious action to take and the fix doesn't seem to stick as I have had my second monitor drop out after restarting my computer.

The bigger problem is that I spent over a week trying to figure out where to get support for the Docking Station and the DisplayLink Software.  It seems my only alternative is to call in and speak to Dell Tech Support, but this is very inconvenient because my work hours are the same time as Dell Technical Support but this is my personal computer.

P.S. One other problem I have with the Dell SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Docking Station is that the rubber feet on my Dell Inspiron 17R SE 7720 are outside the width of the Docking Station so the Laptop can not be positioned on top of the Docking Station because it slides right out.

Dell Latitude E7240 issues

Hello,

So my company purchased a Dell Latitude E7240 laptop with the E-Port docking station (the one with just 1 DVI/VGA connection).  The laptop is fine by itself but it has issues when we undock it and then re-dock it.  The problem is that the user (just happens to be the President of the company :() has 7 or so USB devices and since the docking station only has 5 ports available, we bought a separate USB hub for her (and the USB hub has its own AC adapter).

So if she has the laptop in the docking station docked and turns on the laptop, everything is fine.  However, whenever she undocks it and then docks it again none of the USB devices work.  The problem is that it doesn't happen every time she undocks and re-docks but enough that it is extremely annoying.  Also when this happens, the laptop won't restart or shut down without any issues...it just hangs at "shutting down Windows" screen.  I have to manually hold down the power button to get it to shut off.

We have had a Dell tech come out and swap out the motherboard on the laptop and that seemed to fix the issue but a day or two later the issue cropped up again.  I just received a new docking station from Dell and swapped it out but, again, still having the issue.

The laptop is Win. 7 64bit OS load; has all the latest drivers that I know of...so....anyone else with the similar experience and/or any thoughts on how to fix this?

Thanks!

Upgrading RAM

I have an Inspiron 1525 that currently has 2gb of ram (2 x 1gb). I would like to upgrade to 4gb (2 x 2gb). Buying new is expensive especially as this is a 7 year old lap top. Problem is I really don't fully understand all the jargon well enough to go buying with anything like confidence.

I have sourced some PC2-5300S-555-12-ZZ, which I think is compatible. Before I go spending can anyone confirm if it is or not?

Dell 15R 5520 CPU Fan too noise and high very high speed

Hello there,

its been more than 3 month since i have purchased my Inspiron 15R 5520 laptop. Everything looks pretty well with the performance, but i have an issue than i can't deal with. Its my CPU cooler that makes too much noise even with the minimum of usage of CPU and GPU. Even if i open notepad CPU cooler goes to maximum of RPM. I have monitored with SpeedFan and temperature looks fine its always around 51 and 55 o C.

My parameters are:

CPU: 2.5 Core i5

Dual Gpu: Intel hd 4000 and ATI Radeon 7076M

Ram: 8 GB

Current OS: Win7 Pro

I have tried almost every OS from Windows: Win7 Pro, Ultimate, Windows 8, 8.1 and on every OS its the same situaton. My system its fully updated with all latest drivers provided by Dell, here is the source: http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-support/product/inspiron-15r-5520/drivers

I have tried even with Ubuntu, as its certified, i have downloaded 12.04 version that is specifically for dell 5520 and the situation its worst. Same thing with other distros.

I have opened my laptop and cooler its clean.

It is normal that my laptop reacts this way ? I mean why the cooler of CPU is at maximum of RPM when i have opened only notepad ?? What if i execute bigger tasks like virtual machines or playing games it will kill the cooler right ??

Please give me an advice where the problem might be, i just want to use my laptop with Windows in normal conditions, not with these extreme RPM.

Any suggestion would be appreciable. Thanks in advance.

Right, so when running Counter Strike Source, or any other game on lowest settings my laptop overheats and shuts down. This is running on a Dell 15R SE that I've had for about 2 years now, so it's out of warranty. What can be done? Am I stuck with a faulty laptop Dell?

XPS L502x USB 3.0 port problem

$

Hi Everyone,

Does anyone also face this problem whereby USB 3.0 portable HDDs when plugged into the USB 3.0 ports do not work but work normally when plugged into the USB 2.0 port? This problem is similiar to others who have posted in this forum.

Using Renesas version 2.0.30.0, Intel(R) 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset .. Express Root Port 1,2,4,5,6, version 9.2.0.1015

The problem only occurred in the last 2 weeks.  I've had the laptop for about 5 months.

1) When plugging the USB 3.0 portable HDD into the USB3.0 left port, i can see the light on the portable HDD but nothing else happens.  When plugged into the rear 3.0 port, the message that keeps coming up is that the HDD needs to be reformated. When I click reformat, the portable HDD cannot be read.  When I plug the HDD into the right side 2.0 port, the laptop is able to read it normally.

2) When I plug another USB 2.0 portable HDD into any of these 3.0 ports, there is no problem.  The 2.0 HDD can be read ok.

3) Called Dell and they came to replace the USB 3.0 daughter board but the problem persists.

4) Updated the bios and chipset. Problem still persists.

4) Did a "restore to factory" reformat..... the USB 3.0 ports are able to read the USB 3.0 portable HDD.

5) Did the normal Windows 7 automatic updates.... the USB 3.0 ports FAILED to read the USB 3.0 portable HDD.!!!

6) In the Device Manager, I've also unticked the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" for all 3 'Generic USB Hub' and both the 'USB Root Hub'. problem still persists.

HELP.... Has anybody got solutions or suggestions?  DELL Technicians have ran out of suggestions. Moreover, when I asked them, most said this is the 1st time they heard of this problem. They obviously have not read the many posts on this forum....

I do not wish to reinstall everything again and stop the windows 7 from updating. So if there are better solutions out there please help, or maybe my experience can help DELL engineers come up with a better patch... thanks.

With power cable plugged in and battery present, only the battery is lit on front of laptop.

My close friend's daughter is home schooled on the Internet and her Dell Inspiron N7110 stopped working.  I fiddle with computers and am trying to save them a little cash.

When Heather turned the computer on by pressing the start button, nothing happened.  Nothing appeared on the screen.  Here is what I have done so far.

Unplugged charger.  Removed battery. Depressed ad held down the On/Off button for 30 seconds.  Plugged in charger but left the battery out.  Attempted to start the computer, without success.  While charger is connected but the battery is not in, there are no lights present on the front edge of the computer.  When the battery is re-installed, only the Battery Light is on.

The computer only takes DDR3 memory and my personal laptop is DDR2, so I do not have access to memory that could test memory, if that is the problem.

I don't hear any fan sounds, but since I am not familiar with the computer, I do not know if it is just silent or not getting any power.

My personal laptop is a Toshiba.  I recently got a warning that my HDD is going bad.  I am waiting for the delivery of the new HDD, so I cannot try my HDD in Hether's computer to see if the HDD is defective.  I guess I could dismantle the whole laptop and try to reseat all the components attached by cable to see if there has been a breach in any one of them.  I just don't know what to do next and need some advice.

Thanks for any help.  YesGeeked

Dell STUDIO 1555

Can I please have some assistance to determine if my motherboard or hard drive in my Studio 1555 have died.

I turned on my computer last night and it did not boot - no dell logo, no windows, unable to run diagnostics, unable to enter BIOS.  I can hear the cd/dvd drive initialise, keyboard is backlit, and fan is running.  I was able to successfully test the screen so that is not the problem.

I have tried all sorts of trouble shooting - I have unplugged and taken out battery, drained residual power by pressing the power button and then plugging back into AC power, still the same issue.

I have checked the RAM, that is not the issue.

So how do I determine what hardware is causing this issue, when there are no beeps when I turn it on and I cannot run diagnostics?

Thanks in advance.

WiFi thruput dies when on docking station with lid closed

I just discovered that my Dell Lattitude E5540 gets great throughput (20 mbps) if I just open up the lid, on or off the docking station. But if I close the lid on the docking station (the preferred position), it drops to about 2.0 on a good day. For months, I've assumed I just had a weak router. Even an external mic doesn't improve that by much, so it appears not to be a problem with the signal, but with the wireless processing. I couldn't find anything in the Dell forums on this, so thought I'd start a new thread since I imagine others have this issue. I did find on a Google search that apparently shutting the lid might cause some power settings to kick in on the wireless card, even when docked and awake. But I couldn't find a way to address. I don't want to undo the shut lid settings since when I shut the lid and not on a dock, I want it to go to sleep! Is this just a screwy design flaw or am I missing something? My previous Lattitude had the same issue, although I hadn't discovered that opening the lid would give me back my throughput.

Dell Inspiron n5010 making loud buzzing sound and blank/coloured screen

Hi,

1 year ago I jumped from a wall with my laptop inside my backpack. After that I started facing booting issues with my laptop. I got it checked with a technician and he diagnosed & found problem with the hard disk connector and replaced the same. After that there were no issue with the boot up process. But he also suggested me to change the hard disk.

But now I started facing a strange issue. Whenever I work with a software which demands high performance like a game/video converter etc. My laptop makes a loud buzzing sound and also the screen goes blank or some time strips of coloured lines appear. To recover I have to shut down the laptop and after that it usually take 15 mins to several hours to boot.

Also while booting I get a "Click" sound from the hard disk.

Please help!

M6600 odd Touch-Screen driver problem

I've got an odd bug with the touch screen driver for my Dell Precision M6600 Advanced.  When first installed the multi-touch screen works fine but then suddenly stops working.

The touch screen will then begin working again if I'm running the Dell Client System Update software, regardless of whether that software is doing anything at all; it just needs to be open on the desktop.

When I close the Dell Client System Update software the touch-screen stops working again!

I've got the all the latest drivers from the Dell website.  I'm assuming the touch-screen is part of the N-Trig driver set.

Please can anybody help?!

Good day! I want to share their negative experiences with Dell and ask for help! I am the owner of Alienware M18, a month ago there was a problem - after 15 minutes of falling computer performance. I contacted tech support. At 02.09 they master three times already visited me. The problem has not been solved, but at the time of their visits, they messed up the computer -Cover keyboard, transparencies and cable video cable going to the monitor. Support service comes without even a basic means for monitoring the computer. They just change the details and leave and do not resolve the problem, it is important or not.Starschy manager Ticket does not talk on the phone and does not respond to the letter! Yesterday, one of the employees tehpodderzhi invited me to call the wizard for my own funds (to pay him cash)! And in tech support assured me that I was replacing a memory module, this frank lies !! Memory modules I bought for my own money in the store unrelated to Dell. All my requests tribute contacts superiors in technical support refuses! As a result of having paid the warranty (check the master the next day) I am more than a month have not serviceable laptop and any who did not understand what the problem is with him. By passing this, I have a bunch of broken parts dell masters! And this is called the Dell warranty ???Still I can say that the parts are not brought new and used and already broken! I brought the motherboard in which it was immediately clear broken plugs! What do I do and where longer process any help I do not understand! All attempts to solve the problem abut the support, and they are absolutely not competent! Once again, having paid the guarantee I have a broken laptop for over a month and it is not clear when it will be repaired.Support service offers to diagnose for cash! Many items are broken in the process of renovating! Here's what actually dell tech support !!!

Dell Inspiron 1318 not booting up

Hi,

I own a Dell Inspiron 1318 and have had it for 5 years now. The laptop is refusing to boot up. When I press the power button, the blue light blinks but then dies away and does not result in the initial boot screen. I have tried to remove the battery and unplug the adapter and keep the power button pressed for 30 seconds but that isn't working. The laptop was working fine till last evening.

Any suggestions?

Battery plugged in, not charging...(found the fix that worked for my Dell Inspiron

$

Well, the charger is plugged in, but it says not charging. This has happened twice. I would have thought bad battery or bad charger, except luckily the first time it occured right after buying a new hard drive. I did a hard reset on the battery and that worked.

Now, it has happened again. I tried the regular battery reset, but that did not work. I tried uninstalling device and reinstall..did not work either.

Oddly, what did work was the following:

I had about 38% battery left. I unplugged the power cord from both laptop and wall outlet.

I removed the batter. Computer went dead.

I wiped the battery connectors with a clean cloth several times.

I put the batter back in and turned the laptop on with battery only.

I plugged power cord into side of laptop, then into wall outlet.

Immediately, the laptop began charging again!

I am not sure why this worked. Maybe some techy out there may know. When I tried the battery reset, I turned the computer off before taking out the battery. Then took it out. Plugged in laptop with power cord and powered it. Then shut down and placed battery in. I turned back on..but nothing...

It may have to do with having the laptop already on when taking out the battery, or placing back the power cord, or could just be the wiping the battery with cloth????
