Where can I get more screws for my Inspiron N5040?

I've opened up my Inspiron N5040 a few times in the past couple years troubleshooting and dusting and stuff, and I've lost some of the screws for the case and hard drive. Now sometimes my hard drive slides out of place and I have to open it back up and adjust it.

Is there somewhere I can order more screws? Google turned up nothing.

Hello,

I own a Vostro 3500 but it's missing the Hard drive Interposer, now these are almost impossible to find for my specific model, therefore i'd like to ask if there's any alternative from a different model which will fit?

Here is an image of the Interposer for the Vostro 3500:

Dell laptop not moving past BIOS screen

I have a Dell Inspiron 3520. Its almost 18 months old. I recently installed windows 7 ultimate in my system. After installation the system was good and working fine. But one fine morning the system didnt go past the Dell logo screen. Im able to navigate to BIOS setting page by pressing F2 and even boot menu F12. Not sure what is wrong with the laptop. And going through one of the previous post which dealt the same problem suggested me change the SATA operation options ATA / or AHCI.  But trying the same the problem was not solved. I ran the tests and all the result were fine and it said all passed.

Dell Inspiron N5010 is bad for Linux

Hi,

Ive been having a hard time using this dell laptop for Linux. Ive been stuck with this brightness problem for quite a long time now. Its said that the Linux has a problem on how dell bios handles brightness adjustments and it results in computer freeze when the brightness gets adjusted from linux. Why is Dell having such a hard time with Linux ?.  Are dell laptops just for people who use windows ?. I know there are certain dell laptops with linux but do they want us to buy such pre-configured laptops ?. Why wouldnt they address these issues ?. Can i just get a refund for my dell laptop if im not so happy about it ?

Can you help identify my laptop?

Hello,

I purchased a laptop in China a couple of years ago.

My charger recently broke so I purchased a new one. Turns out my laptop doesn't take the standard 5mm x

4.7 mm chargers.

I have tried to find a serial number or check the Bios to see which laptop I own but I couldn't find any info.

Could you help me track down the model or point me in the direction of a charger that is smaller then 5mm x 4.7mm?

Thanks

For the past few days I've been noticing terrible connection drops and disconnections. I did some research and notice that the Intel Dual band Wireless-N 7260 has known issue and was wondering is it safe to replace the card with something better? I'm still in warranty and just wondering will this invalid the warranty or not? Also will any NIC card work with my laptop or what

The computer will go into hibernation without any problems.

When I power the computer back up, it starts up I see the starting windows screen. That screen goes blank and then nothing happens.

I just updated the BIOS to A15 and that did not work. I have tried uninstalling the video driver and that did not work. I tried installing an older video driver and no luck there.

So not sure what the problem might be.

The video driver I have for the NVIDIA Quadro FX 1800M show version 8.17.12.5922

[Confirmed] Dell Touchpad utility issue on Inspiron 3442,3542,5748

I can reproduce this on multiple Dell Inspiron 17 5000 series (5748).
Inspiron 15 3000 series (3542) and Inspiron 14 3000 series (3442) are probably affected as well.

Stock BIOS A01 - no newer version available
Windows 8.1 64-bit
Dell Touchpad utility 18.0.7.1

Issue #1 When disabling the touchpad within the Dell Touchpad utility the touchpad re-enables itself after rebooting one or multiple times or after resuming from sleep. The setting does not persist.
So I had to disable the touchpad in Device Manager instead.

Issue #2 "Device Disconnect" sound after resuming from sleep. I think it's related to the touchpad drivers.
This issue seems not present after reinstalling Windows myself. Only occurs on factory pre-installed Windows.

New XPS 13 (9333) Constant Noise

Hello every1.

I have exactly the same issue.

When keyboard lights (further KBL) are off - no pitch noise, when KBL are on - there's a bothersome pitch noise. Also I've noticed the following: when I switch KBL on and pitch noise appears, I press functional volume buttons (Fn + F11/F12) and the pitch noise dissappears for some time.

The next thing I've noticed is that there's no pitch noise when I boot to BIOS settings, but KBL are on!

I use Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, kernel 3.13.0-32-generic. Tried to update kernel to 3.16.0 and 3.16.1, but no results.

Did any1 notice the same things as I did?

Hello everyone,

As the title says, since few days, my Dell N5110 laptop is getting heated beside the touch pad (left side).
I have run the laptop both with/without charging, but still the same case. Since I always need to place my left palm on that surface for typing, it's getting very frustrating.

Any solution/advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Inspiron 11 - 3147 BIOS problems with Linux

Recently purchased an Inspiron 11 - 3147 laptop which has the lastest BIOS version A01 installed on it.

This laptop requires a BIOS update by Dell to fix problems with itss N2830 and N3530 processors to work with Linux.  The problem is described here;

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1341925

Accordingly to the following news article this laptop is surpose to ship with Ubuntu as an option in September.

http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2014/06/dell-announce-new-laptops-optional-ubuntu

As there are clearly BIOS issues when run under Linux would someone from Dell confirm a BIOS update is coming soon for this laptop?

Thanks.

Importing pictures to laptop

I have a Fuji digital camera that uses a XL picture card. I tried to import to my laptop and it tells me the card is not initialized. Upon checking my camera it says the same thing. I know the pictures were on the card as I took them. Is there a way to get them onto my computer now? Or have I lost all of my pictures. I did not attempt to reformat my camera or the card. Can you please help. The pics were of our honeymoon! Talked to Fuji and they said to see what you might be able to do for me. There is nothing they can do.

Inspiron 15R N5110, Pathetic service, no response, waste of time/ money in extended warranty

I have Inspiron 15R N5110 with 3 year warranty. Recently the motherboard started giving beeps. After 15 days  of haggling they changed the MB with the old refurbished one. While opening the case, technician broke the screw base of screen and told me that it will be replaced as this is standard problem with all Inspiron model. He also told me that he will be intimating and raising the ticket. Now, even after 2 weeks, multiple reminders, mails escalation to "unattended issue" nothing happened. no response.

Monitor Freezing, then fading to white, Dell XPS L502X

$

Hi all, I currently have a Dell XPS L502X laptop, running Windows 7 Home premium 64-bit. A couple of months ago, this laptop was dropped from my bed to the floor. At the time, everything functioned as normal. However, about a month later, the screen began to freeze, then slowly fade to white. When the screen is tilted or moved however, it would function properly again.

As of recently, the screen has been doing this a lot more frequently. It has also began to show numerous vertical white lines on the left hand side of the screen, which was the side it had been dropped on. After doing a bit of reading and research, I think it might be that the cable connecting the screen to the motherboard may be loose. I am yet to contact the dell support hotline, which I intend to do tonight, but any help with this issue would be awesome.

Any suggestions?
