RAM upgrade Inspiron N1510

Hi there, This is my first posting & I'm not confident that I have the expertise to follow suggestions from others - but here goes. I have installed Kingston 4GB  memory to my Dell Inspiron 5010 laptop but now it won't start up. Message suggests 'launch startup repair' & then 'Windows is loading files' but then suddenly all goes black with a click. The dell logo re appears briefly and then returns to suggesting startup repair. It is now sitting on 'starting windows'. But it doesn't. Help much appreciated.

I spilled liquid on my XPS L502 and now it is as if a key is always being pressed. I cannot enter my windows password as the box is filled up before I press a key so I cannot login. I have tried using an external keyboard and physically removing the laptop keyboard but text keeps appearing as if something is stuck - any ideas? Greg

Inspiron 15Z 5523 problem with hinge screws

Hi!

I bought my Inspiron 15Z in march 2013 and since the very beginning there was something wrong with one of the hinges. It was a little bit slacky and there was a visible gap between the hinge and the display cover. I reported this to Dell Poland but they only responded that it was a mechanical defect and my warranty didn't cover it.

Today, while opening the laptop lid, the hinge has broken down completely and it looks like this: http://i.imgur.com/N3lO8Ok.jpg.

Could you please advise me, what am I supposed to do now? Looks like it's only a matter of thightening the screws but I don't feel like dissassembling a half of laptop parts just to get to the hinge. Is there any simple fix for that?

I have been browsing the internet just fine, my husband moved our router and cable modem last night to a different room to get them out of our main living room, and this morning when I went on, my wireless switch is turned off.

I have a dell e6500 laptop with a hardware warranty...

I have a dell e6500 laptop with a hardware warranty, however I cannot use the warranty, due to the fact I bought this laptop from craigslist and it is registered to a Federal Government Agency. I have no idea how to change the warranty status over to my name. The reason I need to do that is because my battery needs replaced. How would I go about changing the warranty over to my name so I can replace my battery without knowing the Government agency's name this pc is registered too ?

Dell Vostro 5470 Touchpad driver is NOT working

Hi. I'm using windows 8.1 and my Touchpad doesn't recognize Elantech driver.

I already installed driver from Dell drivers website.

The problem is all my key fn function work but the enable/disable Touchpad doesn't work.

And I don't see any option to customize my Touchpad.

Only left click, right click, moving pointer are working, but scrolling doesn't work.

I think the driver isn't installed or maybe it isn't compatible with windows 8.1.

Win XP on Inspiron 15 3542

Hello,

I am trying to install WinXP on my newly bought Inspiron 15 3542 but the setup process can't start. I get BSOD every time i try to install it. I tried implementing SATA driver from the drivers section -

Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver View details
Serial-ATA_Driver_NX86M_WN_12.8.2.1000_A00.EXE|Update Package for Microsoft® Windows®(23 MB)
Serial ATA |
Release date 4/11/2014
| Last Updated 5/2/2014
| Recommended

Version 12.8.2.1000,A00

into Windows XP installation, but this doesn't help. I think this driver is for W7 or higher. I wanted to change the SATA interface from AHCI to ATA in bios but there is nothing to select, only AHCI mode is present. Can you tell me where can I find a SATA driver that will work for AHCI mode to install WinXP on this model of laptop.

Thank you.

HELP!! Dell xps 12 touchscreen convertible ultrabook - will not POWER UP

$

Hi everyone,

As my username suggests, I am not very technical - that said I took the plunge and bought a Dell xps 12 touchscreen convertible last year in April (from the dell online outlet store). I haven't used it as much as I thought I would due to unforeseen work commitments. However, today after about a month of non use I plugged my ultrabook into the power supply and tried to boot the computer up. I am distressed to find that the machine is not turning on. I have now had it hooked up to the power supply for approximately 35 minutes and the ultrabook is still dead - not responding. I should mention that the last time I used the ultrabook it was working fine and I wasn't aware of any issues when powering it down. Although I usually needed to keep it plugged  into the power supply as the battery life was far too short for the things I needed to use it for.The power supply itself appears to be working as the green light is illuminated on the power block. Anybody got any suggestions or advice to help me fix this. I have read somewhere that this machine has a tendency to be hard to shake out of sleep mode. I don't think that is the issue... but if it is... how would I go about checking that?

Please HELP! Any support with this will be gratefully received.

Battery compatibility of the e6440

$

Hello !
Does anyone know the battery compability ?
Dell sells battery for the e6440 (and e6540) WT5WP but... also for e6420(/30) and e6520(/30) 2P2MJ where the compatibility with the e6440 is clearly indicated.
The M1Y7N is also indicated to work on both e6440 and e6420(/30)
So ... does both batteries work for the whole serie ? or only both for the e6440 and only the second fort the e6xx0, or only the first for the e6440 and the second for the e6x20 to e6x30 ?

Laptop will not turn-on on a full battery. AC adapter light goes off when plugged in laptop, and laptop won't power on.

Environment: Dell Inspiron 14, Windows 7.

Problem description:
Battery at 100% full. Windows hibernated the laptop. AC adapter was taken off the wall.  (note: Laptop was working flawlessly since purchase - a year ago).

  1. When plugging AC adapter into the wall, nothing happens, laptop does not power on, no lights (on front left of laptop) go on.
  2. When AC adapter is disconnected from laptop, and plugged into the wall, the AC adapter's light turns on, but - as soon as the AC adapter is plugged into the laptop, the AC adapter light turns off and nothing is happening on the laptop: no lights are on and power-on does not start.
  3. Trying to start the laptop with just the buttery (which was full a few hours ago) produce same results as in 2 above, nothing is starting and no lights are turning on.
  4. Taking the battery off and trying to start the laptop without it, produces same negative results as in 2 above.

My analysis:
Seems to me that since the AC adapter light does go on when it's not connected to the laptop, the AC adapter is not the culprit.

Likewise, since the battery was okay last night (it would keep the laptop working for longer than two hours) and there were no events that could damage it physically, the battery should not be blamed also.

Thus, the clues point to something in the laptop itself.

Questions:

  1. Do you have similar experience with Dell laptops: what cased your problem?
  2. Or, from your experience, what may cause my non powering-on laptop?

Inspiron 15 5000 series - Slow performance. CPU Stuck at 0,75ghz?

$

Hi Guys!

I've recently purchased an Inspiron 15 5000 series and have noticed that performance is unusually slow for the specs, especially since coming from an Asus G73JH that was about 4 years old.

I've noticed that in the Task Manager on Windows 8, that CPU usage never goes above 30% and although the CPU is listed as an i7-4510u @ 2.00ghz, the Speed on the Task Manager page generally sits at 0.75ghz and never goes above 0.79ghz (generally when it goes above 0.75ghz, it for a brief moment).

I've been Googling this problem for a little while now and the only person I've found with a successful solution to this problem was on a desktop and had to replace their CMOS battery. Considering I'm on a laptop, I'd imagine this would void my warranty somewhat :P

I've run the Dell Support program and all the tests pass. I've also installed all the drivers from the Dell site (including the BIOS update) and all my Windows Updates are up to date. If anyone has a suggestion for what could fix my problem, I'm all ears :) I quite like the laptop, so would like to fix this problem :)

Thanks everyone,

Josh

XPS 17-reinstalled windows now display doesnt look as good as before

I have a XPS 17 L702X.  My battery died and a few days later I turned it back on and it gave me an error and wouldnt boot up.  It would just be a black screen with the cursor.  I was able to get all of my data from hard drive and then reinstalled windows 7 64 bit.

Now the display looks stretched and it does not look as good.  I tried to adjust resolution and can only get 1280x1024.  My display is supposed to be a 17.3 FHD WLED AG 1920x1080.  Under device manager now it says Generic PnP display. Im not sure if thats what it always said?

Does anyone have any ideas on how to get my display back to how it was?  It has a blue ray drive and that wont play a blue ray either.

Dell Inspiron 14z-5423 won't install Windows x64.

I have Dell inspiron 14z-5423.
Some days ago it got infected by virus and automatically deleted Windows Defender and went very very slow.
So last night i decided to make a clean installation of windows 7 and by that i time didn't know that dell have a recovery partition for windows repair. i read about it after having problem.

So in first place when i inserted the disc and went through the screens to install location there were no drives so i googled a little about it and read somewehere to disable acceleration.
i disabled it and started installation again. selected home premium x64. drives showed i formatted where i wanted to install windows.
in the end it restarted and turned on again and screen showed where it says completing installation. after a while message popped up saying

"windows could not configure one or more system components......... reinstall again..."

then after some search i came to know to load RAID drivers in unzip form. i have my CD which was in Laptop's box. i searched for ISRT drivers and unzipped them then copied them to usb drive to load. i started the setup again. when loaded drivers in load screen. it now says install using 32-bit or signed 64-bit.. blah blah

i tried with different ISRT drivers but it always saying signed problem i even tried 32 bit drivers but it says same.

in the end i tried to install x86 windows and it worked but Dell inspiron 14z 5423 don't have 32-bit drivers so this window is useless for me.

one more thing i tried installing 64bit window by changing sata operation to AHA. it is working with that but not letting install 64bit windows with AHCI or ISRT(Raid)

i want SSD to work as cached drive. thats why i'm not using AHA.

sorry for my english. its not my 1st language.

Dell Laptop Battery Usage

I want to ask that I don't want to use the charging of my laptop's battery thats why I plug in my laptop but in Power Options I select Do not charge the battery, avoiding the battery to keep on charging when its fully charged and preserving it for any power outage. I do so because I don't want to remove and reinsert the battery again and again. Kindly please tell me is it good practice or not?
