OCZ SSD Drive not detected

Hi there,

I am using a DELL Latitide E6530 and was about to upgrade it to use a OCZ SSD 256G Drive (VTR1-25SAt3-256G).

However the E6530 does not recognize the drive even after a BIOS upgrade (A12) .

I tried the drive on a HP laptop and it works so it is something on the E6530. What should I do?

I am trying to get the drivers for my granddaughters laptop. I had to reinstall Windows 7 and she doesn't have the DVD's to reinstall the drivers. The service tag is worn off the bottom. Is the service tag found somewhere else?

Inspiron 15z 5523 doesn't shut down Windows 8.1

Hello,

My new Inspiron 15z 5523 sometimes when I choose "Shut Down" while holding down SHIFT key to shut down laptop, the screen goes blue saying "Shutting Down..." and then it turns off but the Power button is still on and the fan runs incredibly fast.  In this case I have to hold down the Power button to shut it down myself.

Now, is this a hardware related issue? Or is this shut down issues related to Windows?

- And does holding down the Power button to shut it down cause problems to the system or is it OK?

I have read a post before stating that unchecking "Turn on Fast Startup" option in Choose what the Power button do will fix the issue, It says recommended but I unchecked it, is it so important anyway and I should leave it checked??

M4400 Stuck at Boot Password Screen

Hi: On startup today, my M4400 was completely stuck at the boot password screen. The problem appears to be with the input from the keyboard. Nothing happens when I enter the boot password. I am not notified of any error in entering the password or prompted to enter the correct password, which typically happens if the password is incorrect. After about a minute, the system shuts down, presumably because no activity is being detected.

Feels like a hardware issue, but I disclaim any but the most superficial expertise on this subject.

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

Dell laptop won't turn on

I have Dell Inspiron 1545. It was working all fine and suddenly it has stopped turning on. I lost my original charger so I am using one of my friend's dell charger whose power specifications looks to be the same. I have tried taking charger and battery off and pressing power button for 30 seconds. The light on the charger stays on. I don't hear any beep or any response on laptop all. Thinking that it might be display issue, I tried connecting it to external monitor. Still no success.

I have a Inspiron 1545 with Windows 7 and was wondering if by any chance it was Touchscreen capable? I am kinda computer illiterate, lol, so have no idea if it is even possible. If so where in settings/properties is it or what software is needed. Thanks

Inspiron N7110 factory restore bootmgr missing

Just did a factory restore from the data safe app. Restarted and now says bootmgr missing. I know what this means but can't fix it. There's no f key option to do anything and I don't have recovery discs. Their software broke this. :(

How to install WWAN hardware on my Vostro 3360 ?

Hi,

I bought a Vostro 3360 last year but it didn't have the option to get WWAN.

Now I'd like to have internet with my SIM card.

What I have to buy to upgrade my Vostro and be able to get WWAN ?

If I buy a Dell 5530 or 5630, is it enough ? I guess I have to buy something to put the SIM or is it included in the Dell 5530/5630 hardware ? And how can I connect the "aux" and "main" port in the Dell 5530.

Warning: Battery cannot be identified

On Start, I receive a message: Warning: The battery cannot be identified. The system will be unable to charge this battery. Press any key to continue.

When I continue, everything seems to be ok; the battery charges normally. The warning appears on every Start. This started recently possibly after I installed Norton 360 Premier security package.

Can I continue ignoring it or does it really have a message for me. The laptop is an Inspiron 1501 and is slightly under 2 years old.

Logon process has failed to create the security options dialog.

I have posted this also on the Hard Drive Forum, but I'm having problems with Dell Insprion 1318 laptop, Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU, T4200 @ 2.00 GHz, 2.00 GHz, 3.00 GB RAM, 32-bit OS.

The screen flashes blask a few times at startup, then runs ok for a bit, then ultimately freezes up under medium to heavy CPU/Drive load, Ctl-Alt-Del does not respond, but a minute or so later the screen goes black, and an Error box is displayed which reades, "Logon process has failed to create the security options dialog." in the blue title box, and "Failure - Security Options" in the white text box.

Ran Extended 32 bit Diagnostics and got the following Error code:

Error Code 0F00:1344, Msg DISK - Block 37125233. Can't read, replace disk

It also reads that the given error code and message can be used by Technical Support to diagnose the problem.

I chose the option to continue testing and got error codes 0F00:0244, and 0F00:1A44, both with the same additional text, "Msg DISK...."

I called Tech Support, but I'm out of warrantee and the guy told me I had to run a virus scan for $59. I have run Norton AV several times including a root scan and found no viruses. I tried to explain whthe steps I had taken, but only got so far as the "logon process...." failure message and regardless of what I tried to explain, the guy kept saying, "You have wirus, we run wirus scan. It cost $59 nominal fee."

I hope someone here can actually help me out. From internet searches, it seems this can be HD failure, or might actually be viral.

DNS error

HI, 

I have had my Inspiron N5010  laptop for  two years, and sometimes I  have a terribly frustrating issue. I cannot connect to the internet at all, I always the same error, "DNS server is not responding" or the adapter device getting off every 15  minutes or less and i have to disable and enable it again. I have tried to connect at home, where every other computer can connect to the internet. I have also tried at a friends house and at work, where I am now sending this message. the antivirus which is installed is AVG. I don't understand what caused this error and I have no idea how to fix it. I even tried connecting my laptop to the router directly, then directly to the modem... to no avail. Please help me, Its getting annoying to use this computer little by little.

-also I run a 64-bit windows 7 and the adapter i use is WiMAX 2560 function driver.

XPS 13 (L322X) BIOS Issue

I'm unable to get into the BIOS on my XPS 13.  Tried F2, F12, DEL, FN-F2, FN-F12.  Nothing will bring up the BIOS at all, just continues to boot.  Tried booting off a USB stick with an OS on it but it won't boot off USB.  Am I using the right key combinations to get into the BIOS?  Are their any key combinations to boot directly off USB?  I have the USB stick in the slot by the power connector.  Tried both but neither seem to be bootable.  Any advice?

How do I know which hard drive to buy and what do I need to download from Dell in order for it to work with my laptop?  My warranty is expired and I really don't know what to do.  Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

My hard drive has failed, I have a new hard drive, however the problem I have is installing the os again as my backup is not working.

Is there anyway to find out what my product key was for Windows 8, and how can I install Windows 8 without having to pay for all over again?

I have reinstalled windows 7 in my Inspiron 14z ultrabook. The problem is am not able to activate the intel rapid storage technology. As mentioned in the earlier posts I have tried in BIOS setting by changing the SATA option to smart response technology. If I change the setting windows is unable to start. Because of this rapid storage technology driver is also installing. Please give suggestings regarding this.

I have Dell new inspiron 15z ultrabook(model no 5523),it doesn't started since morning.

when I connect my external hard disk to laptop after five minutes laptop gets off completely,and after that when I plugged in the charger then it doesn't show the charging light on the laptop.

is there any problem with my laptop?

Please tell me which problem is this? And how to solve this?

Dell Inspiron 11 3147 Battery "Not Charging"

This new Dell Inspiron 11 3147 just arrived today.

The AC Adapter is "plugged in" but the battery is "not charging."

I've looked all over for help for this, Dell Diagnostic has found no problem, and I've had trouble getting a hold of customer service. The most commonly suggested idea has been to uninstall and reinstall the Microsoft ACPI Complian Control Method Battery driver, which I have done.

The only thing I haven't messed with is the battery itself, which doesn't seem to be accessible without damaging the back, which is screwed on and secured well.

Any idea what's wrong?

Laptop beeps 5 times on startup...

I have a dell Inspiron 1764. when I went to start it today, it beeped 5 times after I pushed the power button, then was just black. I tried a couple things, but nothing is working. Any help is appreciated, Thanks!

Dell wanted to charge me $260 to fix my laptop screen and the laptop currently cost $230 on Dell.com. I denied to pay and they sent me back the laptop with my screen broken.

I KNOW IT'S LONG BUT PLEASE READ MY RANT ABOUT DELL TRYING TO RIP ME OFF AND POSSIBLY BREAKING MY LAPTOP

I bought a Dell Inspiron 3521 laptop about a year ago. About a month ago, my screen started flickering and I would have to tilt the screen to get the flickering to stop. This would only temporary fix the problem and the screen would start flickering a couple minutes after that. I was puzzled by this problem because I had never drop my laptop and I am certain that there was no damage to the screen. There were no cracks and the LCD screen was perfect, aside from the flickering problem. I did some research and found that a lot more people have been having this issue. I came to the conclusion that most likely the cable from the LCD screen to the motherboard was loose. I was going to fix it myself but didn't have the proper tools to open the entire laptop and I didn't want to risk anything. I remembered that I still had the warranty from when I first bought it, so I decided to give Dell a call. I spoke with the technician and explained the problem, he also agreed that the problem was maybe just a loose cable inside the laptop, being as there was no damage to the LCD screen. I sent the laptop and then I got a call from Dell about 2 days after. The technician told me that there was ACCIDENTAL DAMAGE to the screen (WHICH I'M CERTAIN THERE WASN'T) and that it wasn't covered with my warranty. He then charged me $260 to repair the laptop. I was livid at that point. I explained that I can just buy the laptop from their website for $230! He then lowered the price to $160 and I denied to pay so I told him to send back the laptop unrepaired, just how I sent it in. I received the laptop 3 days ago with cracks all over my screen. I'm pretty sure that the guy fixing my laptop broke the screen on accident or even on purpose. I called and complained and got the whole incident escalated to a supervisor. They said they were going to investigate the issue and call me back in two days. They called back and told me they were still investiagting and they would call me back in FIVE days.

So that's were I'm at right now, still waiting. Completely horrible customer service. It doesn't take seven days to investigate this case. Hopefully I get a call back. 

BTW, here's how my laptop looks now...
