My XPS 15 L521X won't recognize a working power adapter anymore!

Just this morning my XPS L521X quit recognizing any working power adapter. When it is plugged in, it will recognize it for anywhere from 2-5 seconds and then switch back to battery power and pretend the adapter is not there. I have already verified that both adapters I tried using are properly plugged in and functioning as they should as I first tested them on an older laptop where they worked just fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Inspiron 1545 upgrade.

Hi, I have an old Inspiron 1545 which rarely gets used these days and I'm thinking oF revamping it, I'm just wondering if these upgrades are compatible.

RAM: 8GB KIT DDR2 667MHZ PC2 5300

Full HD screen: DELL INSPIRON E6530 FULL HD 15.6" LED LAPTOP SCREEN (I recognize this is for the e6530, is there a 1920x1080 upgrade for the 1545?)

USB 3.0 pci expresscard (The Buffalo IFC-EC2U3UC)

CPU: Intel Core2 DUO T9400 SLB46 Socket P CPU Processor 2.53Ghz 6M 1066

SSD: Samsung 128GB SSD 840 PRO SATA 6Gb/s Basic - (MZ-7PD128BW)

I want to keep the old HDD, removing the optical drive and use a storage caddy, to use both the old HDD and the SSD.

I would really appreciate if anyone could point out any potential problems here and possible provide solutions? I also tried finding a new motherboard that would support DDR3, possibly ivy-bridge processor, but to no avail, is there such a thing?

Many thanks,

Patrick.

Touchpad recognised as PS/-2 mouse Vostro V131

After reinstalling my computer (Vostro V131, because of a hard-disk exchange) my touchpad is recognised as a PS/-2 mouse. It works quite fine as mouse, but I realy miss the scrolling and the opportunity to deaktivate it. I have the software for the touchpad installed, but still the computer thinks the touchpad is a mouse. Any idea how to solve the problem?

Thanks

Dell M4400 hangs at the welcome screen and during reinstall of WIndows 7...

So I will sum this up as quickly as possible. I have a background in IT and I've fixed and built plenty of my own machines. But this time I'm stumped. I have a Dell M4400 and I upgraded it from Vista to Windows 7. It was working fine and now it just hangs at the welcome screen when I boot it up. The pointer works, I can even tell things are working in the background because it downloaded and installed some updates when I rebooted it once. Even in safe mode it hangs at the welcome screen.

Then it gets even more weird. I tried to reinstall windows 7 again and even did the repair install. The repair install didn't fix anything. But when I tried to go through a new install it hangs at the screen where I check a box and say I agree to the terms, etc. So that was really odd. I even tried a formatted drive and the new install hung at the same spot for the agreement.

Up until these points everything works. The pointer moves, I can click, but when I click on the user icon on the welcome screen or on the checkbox for the agreement nothing happens. It's very odd. Anyways I have no way of explaining this. It apparently isn't the hard drive. I ran it through memory test, etc. So any suggestions would be great. Thanks guys!

Oh and I've ran chkdsk on the disk, and obviously tried another disk as well so I wouldn't think that's it.  I strategically disabled some stuff in BIOS to see if there is some hardware issue, no luck so far. I'd done the diagnostics, it found nothing, although in the BIOS diagnostics report it said PSA 4117 2000:8003 "Diag Not Found". So not sure what that means. Now it's attempting Startup Repair since it looped and died on startup. So my changes triggered something but apparently it didn't like them.  It's been "attempting repairs" for several minutes now, so we'll see. Any help would be much appreciated this is a really odd issue.

Is Inspiron 14R-5421 laptop compatible with SATA 3 (6Gbps) ?

Hey guys,

This laptop came with a Seagate 1TB SATA2 5400 RPM HD.

Now I'm wondering whether it's only the HD that is SATA2 and my MoBo is SATA3 compatible or whether my entire system including MoBo is only SATA2 compatible.

I've called Dell technical support about 4 times and I got different answers in all of the calls. Sometimes Dell's representatives said it is SATA3, sometimes they said it is SATA2 Sad

Due to the different responses I got from Dell's representatives I'm really confused now.

By looking at the specs (at Dell's website) , the only info I'm able to get about my laptop is that it is "SATA compatible". No details about whether or not it is SATA2 or SATA3 compatible.

As this is a model launched recently (it seems 14R-5421 was launched in Jan/2013 ), I believe it is SATA3 and only the HD is SATA2, but I'm not sure though.

Any expert able to answer this simple question ? Big Smile

I would fully appreciate if you could also provide any link confirming this information.

Cheers.

Cat sat on keyboard and when I returned to the laptop, the display was very dim.  Full brightness in windows settings and Fn+Up Arrow does not help.  Bios up to date along with all drivers.  I am puzzled!  Until last night, all was well.  OS is up to date Windows 7.

My touch-pad doesn't work while typing.

Inspiron 1440 Not Charging

As stated in the title, I own a Dell Inspiron 1440 with Windows 7. I have had it since Christmas 2010, and it was previously refurbished. A few weeks ago, the end of my laptop charger was bent slightly and the battery stopped charging. Whenever the charger is plugged in, I get the dialog box that says, "The AC power adapter type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge. Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter for best system operation." Of course, I am using a 65W adapter. Additionally, the BIOS screen says that the adapter is unknown.I can still use the laptop as long as it is plugged in, but having it shut down within three seconds whenever the charger comes loose is a major inconvenience. I have tried removing and replacing the battery (which I just got last Christmas) and uninstalling then reinstalling the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery in the Device Manager. At that point I ordered a new charger (the exact same model as the previous one), only to be faced with the same problem (though the indicator light has been flashing on the new charger, unlike the old one). Is the battery to blame? Or is there something wrong with the port in the computer? Thanks to anyone who may reply.

Dell Inspiron 1440 AC power adapter not detected (adapter is working)

Hi!

I have a Dell Inspiron 1440.

All of the sudden I noticed in the control panel that battery level is low while the AC adapter is connected and ON.

I did the following things to trouble shoot:

* LED on the power pack is lit up. unplugged, cleaned the connectors, and plugged the A/C adapter. Still A/C adapter not shown in the control panel (as charging)

* checked the AC adapter with a multimeter and found around 19~20 V DC output is coming as usual.

* (when the laptop is OFF) whenever the A/C adapter is connected the LED on the laptop turns ON (White) and blinks, and LED goes OFF.

* removed the battery and tried to start the laptop with A/C adapter only with no success. Laptop does NOT turns on.

* put the battery back. with A/C adapter connected started the laptop. once the laptop boots the LED turns to ORANGE (on the normal days it is WHITE).

* went into BIOS and checked battery: it showed battery level critically low (3%), and no A/C adapter connected.

Now, very low battery, I m no more in a position to play with the BIOS. And, I doubt of mother board issue.

Any help/clues to solve this problem?

Thank you in advance.

Internet Speed

Hi there,

I recently bought an Inspiron 3721 Notebook. Upon purchase I decided to upgrade my internet speed from 30mbps to 100mbps. When I do a speed test I only get 35-40 mbps via a wireless connection. When I do a speed test through a wired connection (Ethernet) I get 97 mbps. When I was asking my friend about solutions to this problem he asked me to check the settings for 802.11n as this is the best way to get the fastest connection through wireless.

Could somebody please let me know how to check to see if my laptop is set to this to this 802.11n and if it is not, how do I change it to this? Unfortunately I am not the best on computers so bullet points would be much appreciated, My system is running on windows 8.

Also, the fan seems to have stopped working........

Many thanks,

Mark.

Dell Inspiron 1501 Start Up Error

Hi everybody

I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 Laptop with Windows XP installed that is quite a few years old but that has been working perfectly fine until now. This morning I checked something on the Internet before putting it on standby mode and then going out for the morning. I got back about four hours later and opened up my laptop to find that it was off. I thought this a bit odd but since my battery is fried I thought the charger must have come undone and switched the laptop off.

However, when I turned on my laptop again it informed me that Windows couldn’t start itself and that it might be caused by a program I tried to install that caused a system error. Knowing I didn’t install any new programs, I chose to start it in Safe Mode anyway, hoping to fix the problem. The laptop, however, simply restarted itself and gave me the same screen again. I tried this about six times before choosing to start Windows in normal mode. The same thing happened. And again when I chose to start it in the last workable system settings. It goes to the Windows XP loading page (you know, the logo with the moving blue bar at the bottom) but after a few moments of that it simply restarts.

I ran the Dell diagnostics on it and the diagnostics test says everything is working perfectly. I’m hoping somebody can tell me what to do, because I have some work that I started on it last night for university that I didn’t think to backup as I would finish it today. Slightly freaked out and hoping somebody kind can point me in the right direction.

Thank you so much for your help.

Hi everyone, Im currently running XP on my Dell m6300, and found myself displeased with the speed of the general system (boot, within the OS itself, to start up program, etc) and thinking on a RAM upgrade. Allthough i find myself confuse. My ram sticks, now,are of DDR2 type. Does that mean that i cannot use but DDR2 RAM sticks? If so, its true that DDR2 max RAM capability are of 2gb. I've read post from guys that upgrade their m6300 up to 8 GB, and i would like to know whether i can doe the same. Thanks in advance.

ps: does anyone has tested the m6300 on win 7 64 bits? Theres only 1 post in the hole forum about it, and not with many detail, unfortanely. If someone has, please let me know.

Thanks in advance,

Can I use recovery after reformat?

I have Dell Studio 1735 laptop which came with Windows Vista. After a while I reformated the laptop and installed Windows 7. The problem is that now I can't enable the integrated webcam. I have tried all sorts of driver but it just won't work. I also think my laptop was working better with Vista. So I was thinking if I could run recovery from the recovery drive (I left it as it is when i formatted) and restore my laptop to original factory settings with Windows Vista installation?
