Hi all,

I just got my new XPS 15, amazing laptop but there's 1 big problem,

A high-pitched scratching/screeching noise is produced from the power button area ONLY when the power is plugged in and the battery is fully charged.

I've seen other forums and others have exactly the same problem, Any ideas?

I found this example http://z.mk/e6vq , the power is plugged into the laptop at 6 seconds.

Thanks

laptop beeping 5 times on startup

i have dell vostro 3550, and it's beeping 5 times during startup, but it's get stop when the window screen comes.

i had checked that 5 times beeping means there is cmos battery failure issue which ultimately cause some sort of problem in date and time. but there is no problem in it , date and time are totally fine.
what could be the possible issue and will it effect any cause to my computer if i leave it beeping,
please give me the solution..

Alienware M17x fault. Possible GFX card failure or .....?

Hi All

Got my two and half year old m17x here with a problem.important Spec is:

Intel I7 2760 at 2.4Ghz per core

16gb Ram

AMD 6990M gfx card

System started by hanging alot, especially on boot up. It would take around 45 mins for the machine to be usable after boot. From that I ran the dell diagnostics launched from the spalsh screen in POST. With a "thorugh" test i got the error 2000-0123 leading me to believe it was a memory problem. Removed and reseated RAM kind of worked. I started to get graphics errors though. Some times on boot after the loading windows screen comes up i would just get a black screen indefinatly. I reboot would sometimes work. When windows did boot after a seemingly random amount of time the screen would just go mad. I tried to recreate it on paint to give you a rough idea what I mean. (See below). Basically A bit of the deaktop would be moved and replaced by another, wish I had taken some pictures now.

Tried updated graphics drivers and rolling back to older ones, neither of which helped. When I swapped via the inbuilt utility to the intel onboard gfx the problem seemed to go away and also the machine would boot alot relaibly.

To check it wasnt a software issue or virus I completely restored the machine to factory image by the alienware respawn utility. When windows tried its initial boot after this I would always just get a black screen after the alien splash screen while its POST's. I guess it was trying to use the default card (the amd6990m) to boot here? With no ability to change it to the inbuild intel one I was now screwed.

I have now removed the amd completely and rolled back to factory image which seems to be working. Before I send it off to dell who will no doupt want to charge me for fault diagnosis and a new something I would like people's thoughts on this. It defianly seems to me that the fault is with the GFX card.

Can a faulty GFX card cause the systems to hang that much?

Could a faulty card cause the earilier memory errors?

Anyone know how reasonable dell are when it comes to fixing and replacing stuff?

thanks for your time to read this :)

"PXE-E61 : Media Test Failure, check cable" message. Help?

Hi My daughter's Dell Studio 1558 laptop running Windows 7, won't start. We get as far as a screen with the message: PXE-E61 : Media Test Failure, check cable PXE-MOF : Exiting PXE ROM Operating System not found I tried pressing F12 at start-up and running diagnostics, but after running for a few minutes, the screen just goes blank. I can remove the hard drive and using an external cradle, am able to access it on the desktop PC I'm typing on now, so the HD is accessible. As far as I can tell, "Hard Drive" is the first option in the BIOS settings It was suggested it might be the CMOS battery, but I swapped that with one from another working laptop to check it and it didn't help. Any suggestions on how to get the laptop running again will be gratefully received! :) Thanks Apologies for the format. It's impossible to try and create paragraphs!

Won't power on :(

Problem with Dell Inspiron 15R SE 7520 (Special Edition)

Hi all, new to the forum - please excuse me if my question is not clear.  I bought a brand new

Dell Inspiron 15R SE 7520 (Special Edition)

several months ago.  Just recently, I bought a new hard drive. Took out the old HDD and installed new.  I did a fresh install of Win8 on the new HDD; then upgraded Win8 to Win8.1.

I've installed all the device drivers but there's a strange problem with the display.  The screen resolution is at 1920x1080 which is exactly what it should be.  All the fonts and pictures look great.  But I noticed that whenever I install a new program or open up the device manager, the fonts look really blurry.  Click on the link for the screenshot that I uploaded.  You'll see the fuzzy (very blurry) font I'm referring to.

What's the magic solution here?

A quick rundown of hardware Specs:

Intel Core i5-3230M
Intel HD 4000 on-board graphics
AMD 7730 Graphics Adapter
1 TB HDD
8 GB RAM

I just got back from vacation and transferred about 1500 photos to my Dell XPS model #PP25L. Before I had a chance to connect my external HD to back them up the laptop just suddenly turned itself off (instantly, with no noise other than a very soft pop as it shut off). Now it won't turn on. Is there any way to retrieve thedata and get my photos back?  I'm very disappointed :(

Inspiron 15R 5521 starts to boot and fails

Hi guys

I have an Inspiron 15R 5521 that is causing me no end of headache. When I try to boot it, it starts to boot (audibly you can hear the internal systems starting to go) but the screen stays black and after about 5 seconds, it starts beeping. It beeps continuously approximately once every 2-2.5 seconds, and I have counted up to about 30 beeps (it didn't stop beeping, it was just doing my head in). It started about six months ago, doing it once when I tried to boot it, but pulling the battery fixed it. However, it got progressively worse until one night it simply wouldn't boot at all. A short-term fix was to mash F4 or F9 once the power button was pressed, but now even that doesn't work. I think it might be something in the boot sequence that causes it to fail, but does anyone have a clearer idea of what it could be?

Thanks in advance.

Dell Precision M3800 - Graphics Issues

0

Hi Guys,

I bought a refurbished Dell Precision M3800 a week ago from a Dell re seller on eBay and I've been having some really annoying problems with the descrete gpu. I thought I'd post a question on this forum before calling a technician to see if anyone has had similar issues.

When I first got the laptop, I assumed that the drivers needed to be installed manually. I've installed the Intel and Nvidia Quadro drivers from the Nvidia site, from the product page on Dell as well as let Windows Update download and install them automatically. The symptoms haven't differed across driver versions.

Symptoms:

- Sometimes upon boot, the screen stays black for a very long time before flashing the default lockscreen wallpaper briefly and then showing the one I set. Sometimes the screens would flash black a few more times after logging in.

- After booting 3D applications such as 3DS MAX or basic 3D video games set to run on the Nvidia card will return error messages and not run.

- Opening Nvidia control panel on some driver versions returns an error message about the display not being connected to a nvidia card

- The Nvidia card will not be visible in Device Manager

In order to fix these problems I have to shutdown or reboot several times and the symptoms will return not long after. If I put the computer to sleep the same black screen symptom will occur.

Any ideas? Is the likely to be a driver issue or a hardware issue?
I reinstalled the operating system from the WIN 8.1 OEM Disc that the laptop came with, but the issues haven't changed.

Thanks for the help!

I have a DELL XPS L502X laptop. Its only a year and a half old.

Today morning when i tried to start it,  it just showed me the dell logo and then a cursor is keeping on blinking at the top left corner of the screen.

I have tried everything i could

1. removed the battery and AC adapter. discharged it by holding down the power button. and then via AC Power tried starting...

2. Diagnostics from F12 didnt show any issue

3. I have the latest bios version and hard disk is recognised in bios under Fixed HDD

4. Boot priority is set to HDD

5. resetting the bios

but nothing worked....

is there anything  else i can do???

i have seen many issues with many laptops.. but this is confusing me... i cant even figure out what is the cause of this problem...
