M17x-R2: i7 920xm Turbo Mode --> power issues --> failing AC power adaptor?
My M17x-R2: i7 920xm | 16GB Ram | HD8970m 4GB | 4 years old
I recently switched from a HD5870m to a HD8970m. Plug'n'Play, no issues at all.
After several weeks I encountered lag spikes in games/3D apps, ATI POWERPLAY would not jump to high Performance modes, the graphics card would reset its load constantly to 0%, while the CPU load would go towards 100% then.
Long story short, after several tests, I tracked the problem down (I think):
Under heavy load, the GPU & CPU would compete for limited supplied power. Although it worked for several weeks, it suddenly does not work anymore.
Work-around-solution: I disabled the Turbo mode in the bios! That way, ATI Powerplay automatically works again and the GPU runs in full performance mode (900MHz GPU/1250MHz Ram). The CPU draws a lot less power. So the GPU & CPU can co-work/co-exist under full load again.
QUESTIONS:
Is my AC power adaptor (240Watts) failing to supply its full potential due to summer heat and age?
Should I get a new one and is there an even more powerfull AC power adaptor to be used for the old M17x-R2?

Windows Explorer Keeps Restarting Or Crashing
Hi, up until recently my Dell Inspiron 7520 SE Windows 8 PC has been playing up. Windows explorer keep restarting itself. The desktop flashes, along with all the icons and any files or folders I have open, close down then everything comes back to normal. No error messages come up nor does the 'Windows explorer has stopped working' messages. I know explorer is crashing cause when i go onto event viewer it says windows explorer has crashed - ill post an image.
please help me resolve this issue

Can't find this info anywhere. I have some 7mm SSD drives I want to deploy with these. However, if it's PCIe, I might go that route too.

Does adding extra RAM heat up my Laptop?
I own a Dell Inspirion N5051 which was purchased before 2010. Since I am a kind of heavy user of the system (not games but heavy multitasker), I would like to increase the RAM to 8 GB or if possible 10 GB.
It came with built in 3 GB RAM which I increaSed to 6 GB, but the system slows down terribly when multiple accounts are simultaneously logged in.
I am hoping that increasing DDR3 RAM to 8 GB or 10 GB could speed things up. Is it a wise idea?
How much extra heat will be generated and would I need extra external cooling systems to keep my laptop cool?

Problem with not starting Dell Studio 1558
I just got a question from my nice who is in Netherlands, I'm in UK, that I don't know how to answer.
She asked me why her laptop is unusable.
She described situation as follows: when she switch it on she sees Dell logo as it should be
but the all she see is POST screen 
and that's it. Laptop just freezes on that screen and nothing is happening. I've asked her if she can press f2 or f12 as it says on logo screen, she responded that yes and she then just can press "esc" and then on the screen is only this POST screen and then nothing happen. I just don't know what I can tell her. Anyone has some ideas?

Inspiron 5520 (4 beeps and no booting)
Hi,
Today my laptop's screen turned blue while working on a Word document, afterwards it wouldn't boot. I took out the battery and waited for a minute or so and tried to boot it, the outcome was a series of 4 beep sounds and no startup at all. ¿What should I do?

e5440 Fingerprint Enrollment Software Windows 7 Pro
Hello,
I have also received a brand new Dell Lat. E5440 laptop with Windows 7 Pro from our supplier. The 'validity sensor' device driver is well configured in Device Manager. But the problem is that there is no fingerprint enrollment application. Any link you can suggest to download the software? I did come across the DigitalPersona suite downloads, but these are updates to the original software and require a qualifying product to update. Any help will be appreciated.

Dell 5737 problem with USB3 HDD caddy
I have a Dell 5737 (Win 8.1) that came with a Samsung Momentus St1000LM024 1TB HDD.
I've installed an SSD in the laptop, and moved the HDD into a USB3/UASP enclosure (see http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00HHO0U7U/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ).
After a few minutes of sustained use (EG format partition with "quick format" disabled), I get error:-
USB device not recognized
The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it.
Event Viewer lists the following:-

The caddy has both data & power cables. I get the same errors, regardless whether the data cable is plugged into laptop's USB3 or USB2 port, the power cable is plugged into laptop's USB3 port, USB2 port or an external 2A charger for my Samsung tablet.
The caddy works perfectly well when connected to the USB3 port on my desktop PC (happily formatted a 700GB partition at 100MBps over 2+ hours). NB this is Win7.
The disk works perfectly well on the laptop when I put it in a Sharkoon Quickport USB2 adapter, on laptop's USB3 port.
I seem therefore to have eliminated:-
- Caddy has a universal fault;
- Disk has a fault;
- Caddy incompatible with HDD;
I seem to be left with:-
- Laptop is incompatible with the caddy.
Can anyone suggest any troubleshooting / settings I can adjust to make the caddy work with the Dell?

E7440 - Rear USB ports don't work when docked?
Hi crew,
Our company has just started to deploy Latitude E7440's. We deploy them with the E-series dock. The rear USB ports on the laptop work fine when undocked, but stop working as soon as the machine is docked.
This is quite annoying to our staff, as most people have a wireless mouse dongle and a wireless headset dongle to attach. Instead of being able to have both attached to the rear ports at all time, they need to stay with the dock. This is a real problem when the user wants to work from home. For us, this means the laptop only really has one usable USB port (on the RH side). Unfortunately a dongle left in that spot gets caught on the laptop bag when the user inserts/removes the laptop.
Has anyone else come across this limitation? Any resolution possible? We're impressed with the E7440's otherwise, this is just quite an unexpected limitation.

but when I run the installer I get this: CONFLICTS PRESENTEDWITHDIGITALSIGNATURERULETAKEN

XPS 12 screen doesnt rotate after upgrading to Windows 8.1+ plus other wobbles
Hello All
I took the plunge and updated to windows 8.1 on my XPS 12 last night, the first problem was the right click options missing from the desktop.
this was remedied by updating the drivers for the cypress touchpad. then I discovered no matter what I did the centrino wireless N 6235 card would not enable. so I removed this from the device manager and re-detected in windows this is currently stable however the Dell Support site recommends updating it, so I have downloaded the driver but when I try to install it I am told this cannot be installed on my system?
more annoying than anything is the auto-rotate function on my flip screen isnt working any more....
Any ideas?

4 BEEP CODE ERROR
my laptop is showing 4 beep code error when i press the power button.On pressing the power button i can only hear 4 beeps continuously with short breaks after each 4 beeps and screen remains completely blank with nothing visible on screen.This happened to my laptop about 20 days ago but then it automatically started working but now from past 10 days it is not working .Only once in past 10 days it went till the screen where i enter my laptop password but when i entered my password there was a lue screen visible with bunch of recommendations and then the screen went black.Suggest me some solution to this problem....

Error Message "check cable connection" when booting"
I am using dell Inspiron 5420. It suddenly giving me this error while booting
"Check cable connection!" PXE-MOF: Exiting Intel PXE ROM.
I followed some threads on this community and diagnosed my Hard Drive but it gives a Warning saying
"hard Drive-Not installled"
I'm completely lost. Please help me!

Vostro 3500 BIOS Update Failed - Recovery Procedure Needed
I had a working Vostro 3500 laptop and was doing maintenance to bring it up to date.
I downloaded and installed the recommended BIOS update for this laptop...

The BIOS update failed and left the computer with no working BIOS. F2 is dead. It will not boot.
I am pretty sure that there is a backup or primitive BIOS still in there, as when I start the machine with no battery and just AC power using the End key it continuously tries to read data from a 2GB flash drive. I assume that it would like to reload the BIOS from a file.
I know how to get the ROM contents from the above file using the /writeromfile parameter.
The big question is, what kind of file does the 3500 want to read, and what is the file name that it is looking for? Does the flash drive need to be bootable? Is this an AMI or Phoenix BIOS?
Can someone please help?

DIFFICULTY TO START THE LAPTOP
Hi,
My screen, usually from the page where the Dell logo popped out on the screen is blinking every time when trying to start. Issues will usually resolve by itself after pushing the start but for a few times until it can start normally.
Anybody is familiar with this problem? I have tried to do the self online diagnostic to investigate what is causing the problem, but the result confirmed that the system is fine and nothing wrong was detected. I have just recently bought the laptop in Malaysia, somewhere in Nov 2013 and I believe it is still under warranty, but the problem is I am currently live in the United Kingdom. Anybody knew who can I go about this?
