Fan on Dell Inspiron 15 constantly full blast?

0
0

I got a new Dell Inspiron 15 yesterday, and within 5 minutes of turning it on, the fan came on full blast, and is now constantly like that even if its just sitting there. The computer is never hot, and the air is always cold too.  The fan is clean, its a new and I always have it on a flat surface. But despite this,  I have 3 aquarium filters and bubblers running, and the laptop is still the loudest thing in the room.  I wouldn't be able to bring it to a library without disturbing people.

The only time the noise does stop is if you close it.  Is there any way to fix this, or should it be returned..?

Loud Button Click

Okay, my wife has an Inspiron 17 laptop and we are really annoyed with the loud "click" the buttons below the touchpad make.  I have a Dell Vostro and the buttons do not make the loud sound.  Is there anyway to disable the "clicking" sound.  I have had a number of Dell laptops and have never had this problem.  It is very frustrating when she cannot sleep at night and I wake up to her incessant clicking!!! Can anyone help?  Is this not annoying to others?

Can't access files off old hard drive despite computer recognizing it

Hey all,

Hope someone can answer my question. Recently, the hard drive in my Dell Latitude Laptop crashed. I got the typical blue screen of death, but I am not sure of what specific error caused my it to crash. In any event, my laptop is under warranty and I have since received a new one. This is not the first time this has happened, and I have a HD to USB adapter. The last time this happened on an older computer I simply plugged in my adapter with the HD, hooked up and my computer recognized it much like an external drive. I was able to access my files via windows explorer just fine. However, when I plug in the adapter now, my explorer displays 2 drives, a local disk (E:) and a recovery disk (D:). When I click on the local disk I get an error message saying the "parameters are not correct" and clicking on the recovery disk, all it displays is an empty folder named "recovery" and a simple notepad file with some sort of file path.

I should add that it is a seagate 320 GB hard drive. I have tried to access these files on several computers and I am getting a similar error on this. The hard drive is not making any clicks or other unusual noises. Just for kicks, I tried the adapter on another hard drive and it opened just fine so the adapter is working. I have some very important work docs that I would like to get off of here. Anyone have a possible solution I can use?

Latitude Recovery Partitions: can I delete them?

Hi,

I bought a Latitude E6530 (with Windows 8) some months ago.

I use Ubuntu Linux so I would like to re-partitioning the entire hard disk.

Using a GParted (a fdisk tool) I see 4 partitions which I don't know the purpose:

  1. ESP: with 'boot' flag, mounted on /boot/efi. Size: 500 MB
  2. DIAGS: with 'hidden' flags. Size: 40 MB
  3. WINRETOOLS: with 'hidden, diag' flags. Size: 500 MB.
  4. PBR IMAGE: with 'hidden, diag' flags. Size: 6 GB. I think this is the Windows 8 recovery partition.
Can I delete all the partitions (I also bought the Restore DVD from Dell store) without problems?
Thanks
Matteo

Hi all,

I'm looking for the Windows XP 32 bit driver for a Dell Latitude E5400 network controller. I have a yellow exclamation mark in Device Manager against this, and it says the driver has not been installed.

I've tried many driver downloads from the Dell website but none of them work or are compatible.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

Les

Mcafee software from My Dell Downloads

Hi,

I need to reinstall Mcafee Security. I've downloaded a copy from My Dell Downloads but I can't figure out how to install it. I've clicked on the "Setup.exe" file but nothing happens. I've even burnt the entire file set to DVD but it still does nothing when I click the setup file. There's an "Autorun" file there which I assumed would enable the disk to self install but it doesn't.

Does anyone know how to make this software install?

Dell Inspiron M5030

Have had my Inspiron 18 months, 7 beeps, contacted Dell offered free collection and free fix.  Returned after 10 days, turned on the laptop, and 7 beeps!!  Repair sheet said they fixed the motherboard, LCD screen, hard disc drive.  Whats the point in all this expense to send the laptop back in the same condition? God I'm so frustrated.  I'm not giving up either, I sent an email and told them I will pursue this, which I will.

When I phoned up they gave me 3 options: 1) extend warranty, 2) engineer come out to house 3) free collection and free fix

When I phoned 3 days later with my nephews Inspiron M5030, same problem, he only gave me first 2 options, until I reminded him about 3rd option!!!

D630 hardware issue, help request

I have a D630 that is acting kind of weird. Wanted to see if anyone else had such a problem and if so what is the solution.

In the bios i have it set to load first from USB, second from CD/DVD and third from Hard Drive.

If I boot from either USB or Hard Drive everything seems good.

If I boot from CD/DVD the laptop will make several beeps, and it is more continuous, there is no breaks so it is not easy to look up a POST beep code for this. It would almost appear that it beeps close to 10 times rapidly.

I did download the diagnostics for the laptop from this site and it ran though all the test and each and every one passed.

Like I said it is only on boot up, once into windows, everything appears to work fine, i can access the hard drive, the CD, and the USB with no problems, no beeps or anything like that.

I am almost at the point to just try a flash to the bios. I dont know. I did try another CD rom drive from another D630 that works fine, so I know it was a good drive. Also tried the drive from the suspected D630 in the good laptop and it worked fine, so that tells me the problem is in the suspected unit, but what is causing it and why, I have no idea.

Dell Inspiron 17 return hassle

Received a laptop with faulty monitor. Received RMA #165398628 but no return labels were sent to my email. Just called and talked to a rep who will supposedly send the labels to my home address.  I politely asked if I can have the return address for Dell for reference, and she declined to give that information. When asked to talk to her supervisor, she hung up the line.  If you keep these type of employees employed to service, do you expect customer to return to you?

Unable to use Wifi on laptop

Hi, I've just recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 3521 laptop which came with a Ubuntu installation. For obvious reasons I shifted to Windows 7 x64 Ultimate but immediately my machine no longer detected networks. In fact, I can only see the option to use wired connection now (after installing some drivers from Dell) in the system tray network notification. I've already tried all drivers downloaded from the website, one package simply ended with an error (I checked the log which stated my platform wasn't supported, which is odd given that the driver was listed for my machine!). And another halts at a screen asking me to switch on Bluetooth via the wireless button (Fn+F2), whereby even after switching it on the installation would not continue. What's even more odd is that Bluetooth seems to be working (I get the icon in the system tray). The previously mentioned network drivers are at ~200 and ~300mb respectively and I've also tried the third listed driver of a much smaller size, which installed fine. As far as I can see, I now have wired connectivity only (for internet) as the machine shows no support otherwise.

Immediately after I encountered my first round of problems I checked under Device Manager and it had listed some devices with no drivers. After installing some of the drivers from Dell I still have 1/4 problematic devices without a driver, which is a "Network Controller". Windows update has not found drivers either. I truly do not know the extent of the complication. All I can trace it back to is when a vendor at a shop (where I had Windows installed) deleted/formatted a partition listed as Dell OEM of around 300mb to allow me to have more partitions. He stated I could get this online anyways, now I do not know if critical/irreplaceable software has been compromised. Please, Please help me. I will gladly provide any further information.

Thank you.

Latitude E6530 NVS 5200M display issues

I have a 2 month old E6530 laptop that sits on a docking station while at work.  The docking station has two monitors connected via Display Ports and I have always been able to use these two displays and the built in display at the same time.  Today when I cam into work, I noticed that the two monitors connected through the docking station were not working, so I went into the screen rez menu and tried to turn them back on as I sometimes have to.  Only when I would have monitor 1 (built in) and monitor 2 (DP1) turned on, if I told monitor 3 (DP2) to turn on it would shut off monitor 2.  Then monitor 2 would turn off monitor 3.  I then went into the Nvidia display settings and tried to do the same thing, and when I check to turn on the third monitor I get a message saying " this GPU supports up to 2 displays"

I have upgraded the nvidia driver to the latest version 320.00 and my BIOS to A11.  Still the same issue, any ideas?
