Hi I have a Dell Inspiron 14z- 5423 running Windows 8. About 10 times I have heard a clicking noise (not coming from the speakers and it's irregular) which seems to be coming from the left side of the laptop. I think most if not all of the times it has started clicking while I was gaming. Most of the time my computer will freeze about 20-30 seconds after the clicking starts and then I have to manually power down (I've tried leaving it for up to 10 minutes and it will still be stuck on the same screen). I think the clicking has stopped every time after the screen freezes. This happened once and I was unable to restart my computer even in safe mode; I had to completely restore the computer from my recovery disks. I'm not super computer savvy so I'm not sure what this is...my boyfriend said it might be my hard drive. Any help is appreciated! :)

Laptop won't turn on with dead battery/AC adapter plugged in
Hello! Recently, the battery died on my Dell Studio 1558 but the AC adapter still works fine. The green LED on it lights up and it does on the laptop as well. So I'm sure it's getting power. I even bought a new one from my local Best Buy today and that didn't work.
My question is, how do I get the laptop to power on for more than a few seconds before it shuts down on me? There's no reason I should have the battery working for it to turn on.
Cannot find wifi networks
I have Inspiron 3521 laptop with Windows 8 and Dell Wireless 1703 Card. After I start Windows it cannot find the wifi adapter and any wifi networks (including mine). If I reboot the Windows a few times it finds the adapter and connects to the wifi, however after 10-15 minutes Windows freezes and restarts. Is this a hardware or software problem? How could I sort this problem out?
Battery not charging
Battery of my Inspiron 1525 is not getting charged. Right now my battery level is 0%. It shows that "plugged in, not charging". Battery condition is shown as good.
I am able to use it only if I plug in the adaptor, which means there is no charging port problem. I tried 65W and 90W adaptor and still they are of no use. I bought new adaptor and charger which didn't solve the problem. Is there anyway I could make the battery charge? Kindly help me out
Thank you
Dell Inspiron 5010 doesn't recognize A/C power when plugged in, only runs on battery
This issue has been plaguing me now for more than a year. It first manifested itself by draining the battery while up and running, with the A/C plugged in. I almost always keep A/C plugged in with this laptop, as it stays in the office. This model is relatively heavy, and I don't need to drag it around everywhere. When this started happening, I contacted someone at support and ended up purchasing a new battery... October 2013. The replacement battery was very, very expensive. It didn't take long to find out this did not resolve the issue.
When it is functional, I can use the laptop only for a couple of hours. Sometimes only 2-4 hours. While using it, I can see the battery meter indicating it draining as I work on the laptop. It eventually gets to a critical point, and that red/orange "low battery" light comes on... front left corner of the keyboard area. Then, it shuts itself down. When I try to power back up, it goes to DOS warning that "battery is critically low, press F1 to continue." When it reaches this point, it will not power back up and boot Windows.
If I let it sit for a couple of hours, I see that the white LED indicator is illuminated on the front left corner of the keyboard. Eventually, I can power it back up and see that the battery is now back to charging up again. It will charge back up to about 100% after a while... keep in mind this is the brand new battery I purchased. At this point, I can go back to using the laptop again. However, it goes back into the same vicious cycle again... battery begins to discharge and dies all over again in a few hours.
This has pretty much made the laptop a "brick." Unusable. Really unusual symptoms, though. Appears as though it only runs on battery power with A/C plugged in. The A/C brick, by the way, has a green illuminated light. A/C power only seems to be re-charging the battery, but not providing any power at all to running the laptop. I've read dozens and dozens of the same issue all over Internet forums. Since I'm out of warranty, I'm just hoping some nice technical analyst there at Dell will pick this one up and let me know what route I should go to get the laptop fixed.
Thanks for any help, in advance.

Black screen unresponsive Inspiron M1150
Hi,
I am hoping somebody can help me. I have a Dell Inspiron M1150. When I turn it on it brings up the Dell logo (with the 2 options F2 for boot options, F12 for setup) then immediately goes to a black screen with a line in the top right hand corner, then its as if it shuts down very quickly and boots back up straight back to the Dell logo screen. It does this continually. If I press F2 it brings up the boot options but wont boot from any of the options I pick. If I press the F12 button, it allows me to run a diagnostic test (which I have done and it says everything is ok), it lets me go into setup to change the date & time etc on the system, and that's about it. I therefore can't restore factory settings or configure to last known 'good point' in my computer. I also cannot get anything up from pressing F8 continuously. Is this something that is fixable?
Thanks

Dell XPS 15 (9530) Flawed mSATA Setup
I have had my new XPS 15 for 4 days now, and overall it is a very impressive machine. I got the mid-range one (with 1TB HDD). However, I would like to let the community know about some issues I am having, and to post publicly that this particular machine is shipping with a flawed setup.
My model comes with 16GB system memory. It has a 32GB mSATA drive intended to be used for Intel Rapid Start and Intel Rapid Storage. The mSATA is partitioned with 8GB for Intel Rapid Start and 22GB for Intel Rapid Storage. However, Intel clearly documents that you need a partition equal in size to the system memory for Intel Rapid Start to work. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&frm=1&source=web&cd=2&cad=rja&sqi=2&ved=0CDIQFjAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Fdownload.intel.com%2Fsupport%2Fmotherboards%2Fdesktop%2Fsb%2Frapid_start_technology_user_guide_for_uefi1.pdf&ei=m1OHUpzGAdPpkAfE8YGIDg&usg=AFQjCNH7Rh6iQN6hSR0Ry3oBF6kGmxgjaA&sig2=e--yKMT7hoApFUI_7kMyEA This makes sense because what it is doing is writing an image of system memory to the SSD.
Consequently, Intel Rapid Start does not work on the midrange XPS 15 9530.. I noticed this because it starts slower than my old Inspiron 15 with its Crucial SSD.
Unfortunately, one cannot fix this by repartitioning the mSATA. If you dedicate 16GB on the mSATA to Intel Rapid Start, only 14GB remain for Intel Rapid Storage, which requires a minimum of 18.6 GB to work.
Dell needs to ship this model with a larger mSATA for both technologies to work.
Now I really would not care personally, as my intention was to recycle my 512GB Crucial M4 as a boot drive by performing a clean Windows install on it. This would allow me to dedicate the entire mSATA to Intel Rapid Start. Unfortunately, this system does not ship with Windows Install disks. And I can't seem to order one as Dell's system does not recognize my Service Tag. I've tried to use the factory reinstallation disks I made to reinstall on my SSD, but they won't let me reinstall to a smaller drive. I could destroy the final 6.96 recovery partition, shrink the main partition, and then clone the drive with Clonezilla, but my intention was to keep the original disk as backup, and the SSD would not be aligned properly.
Another issue I had was the McAfee firewall that came preinstalled prevented me from setting a second network to private. I uninstalled this after failing to find a solution. Windows Defender seems to be adequate antivirus, and its much easier to set the 2nd network to private with Windows firewall.
Overall I am very happy with my new computer, but I don't think I'll be really happy until I can switch back to SSD. I may solve this by ordering a 1TB Samsung EVO, but that puts me up to the price point of the top XPS 15 9530, and I didn't want to go there. And I would still have the alignment issue if I clone the drive. So hopefully my service tag will get recognized soon allowing me to order Windows reinstallation disks.
Multiple XPS 15z won't boot from USB Flash drives
I'm an IT tech and was prepping some XPS 15z notebooks. Part of my procedure is to boot from a bootable USB flash drive that has GHOST and clone images to the drives. Done it a million times (on other systems).
Yesterday, I'm attempting to boot from my bootable USB and I get "Operating System not found" at boot. Shocked, I thought my GHOST boot drive was corrupt.
I pull out my own XPS 15z and the GHOST drive boots fine, even after multiple tries.
I put it back in the new 15z and same thing, "Operating System not found". I also have a bunch of bootable Windows 7 installation USB Flash drives. I pop in one of those into the new 15z, and it won't boot either. I try a different USB 3.0 port, and get the same result. Lastly, I try the USB/eSATA port, and none of my USB keys show up at all (during boot or in the BIOS boot order).
Figuring the 15z was defective, I tried the 2nd 15z I was prepping. SAME THING. Third 15z...SAME.
What's odd is my own 15z works just fine. I tried updating the BIOS in the 15z's to the same as mine (A06) as they were at A05. No difference.
CAN ANYONE BOOT FROM A USB FLASH DRIVE SUCCESSFULLY?
This is completely bizarre. First, neither of the USB 3.0 ports will boot, and second, the combo USB/eSATA port will not detect the presence of a USB drive at boot.
To make matters worse, the USB ports seem to work fine in Windows 7. They are detected, and with a Windows 7 installation USB Flash drive, I can start a Windows 7 installation, so that tells me the ports work.
Ideas???
Inspiron 1521 Windows 7
Hey everyone,
I'm working with a (pink) inspiron 1521 with the AMD 64bit x2 processor, 2gb ram, dedicated video card w/ 256mb.
I reformatted and installed windows 7 64bit professional. The installation went smoothly.
I'm having some trouble finding the correct drivers to get everything working again, it is not detecting the graphics cards, and the maximum resolution is 1024x768, when it should be a few hundred pixels higher.
Can anyone point me in the direction of some legit drivers for this laptop? Windows 7 64bit.
Thanks,
Taylor
Dell Inspiron 15R - N5110 won't power on
My son has a Dell Inspiron 15R (N5110) and it won't power on. I have discharged the static charge, by holding down the power button. The AC adapter works, because I am currently using it on my laptop. The battery is able to charge and function. I tested it on my Mom's N7110, being as they take the same battery. It was able to charge and power up the laptop.
I have also tried to power on the unit with just the AC adapter, which also would not work. The laptop has been out of warranty for a while.

Too much caffeine!
My wife has a XPS 702 laptop and this morning somehow managed to spill an entire cup of coffee on to the keyboard. It has life but weird things happen as expected, like some keys not working, system trying to open different system things, etc.
Is there a possible relatively easy fix? I have taken mine apart (I have the same machine) so I could get in to it and put it back together. I have read that a normal keyboard can be saved by rinsing it out with isopropyl alcohol, but not sure I should try that here.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
DELL XPS L502X WONT BOOT UP
running out of space on my C drive but have plenty space on my D Drive
I have an Inspiron 1764 laptop with 60GB on C and 400GB on Local Drive D. My space on C is almost at its maximum. There is nothing stored on D expect for a few files that originally came with the computer. How do I get the operating system to use D? I am also wondering why my system is set up this way? Why wasn't it set up the have more GB on the C drive? I bought the laptop form Dell a few years ago. Thanks for reading.

Partitions on MY SSD
And in particular, can I remove more of them? Win 8.1, Dell XPS11.
My system came with 5 partitions and I guess that is probably standard. I have removed two of them 'winretools' and 'diags' and expanded the 'OS' partition into the reclaimed space.
This leaves me with 'esp' and 'OS' - PLUS a 500MB partition (which I think contained Dell stuff before I formatted it) at the beginning of the SSD.
It LOOKS like I can't move the 'esp' partition to the beginning of the SSD and so reclaim this 'vacant' 500MB. Is that correct?
