PCIe?

Can't find this info anywhere.  I have some 7mm SSD drives I want to deploy with these.   However, if it's PCIe, I might go that route too.

Studio 1558 won't power on

Last night my studio 1558 was a little choppy playing shows on netflix, almost how it acts when it gets too hot. I blew into the fan port on the back and saw some dust come out, so I thought this could be the culprit. However, the temp readings were not above normal or strange in any way, although video playback was choppy and the CPU was hitting 100% when playing video.

This is an old computer which has been out of warranty for quite some time, and I've taken it apart for cleaning before. So today i took it apart to clean it out and upon doing so, did find some dust bunnies but not enough that i would consider this the cause of the issue. After reassembling the laptop, it wouldn't power on.

Now when i plug in the ac cord, the battery light blinks once, then when the power button is pushed, the battery light will blink white continuously until the power button is let go, at which point it stays steady for a moment before turning off.

When i just have the battery (which is still fully charged) the light will behave similarly but it doesnt light up very brightly. It almost seems like its struggling to turn that LED on.

I have reseated the ram and tried to boot with one chip and the other, removed both ac and battery and discharged the machine, with no effect.

I also checked my cmos battery voltage with a multimeter and it reads at 5.5v which seems odd to me.

I have also tried other ac adaptors. I think the problem is on the motherboard somewhere but i'm not sure what could have caused it.

Any help you guys can provide would be amazing

Windows Explorer on my Inspiron 17 3737

I opened up my PC earlier this week to find that Windows Explorer function is partly inoperable.  I can open everything except My Libraries. I get a "Documents.library-ms" is no longer working message.  Thusly, I don't have easy access to the files within the directory.  Nothing wrong with the hardware.  It has to be a software issue. The search function is inoperable too.  My laptop is not quite 6 mos. old.

Can anyone advise me as to what the solution is to this strange occurrence? If not that, then how best to find/search my files?

Alienware M17x laptop - CD wont go into slot

Trying to get some info about this problem. This computer is almost 3 years old. Today I tried to insert a CD and it just wont go in. I called support and for $90, they said they would try and update a bios driver. I downloaded the file myself, but cant figure out how to run it. But it doesn't appear that anything on it was updated after 3-4-11 and I didn't get this computer until 9-17-11, so Im not too hopeful about running the update. Any thoughts? Do I just need a new CD/DVD driver? Any help is appreciated, thanks. Jo

Dell Inspiron N5050 BSOD problems

Hi, I am making a new thread since my friend have her computer problem. Her is Dell Inspiron N5050 and it is with windows 7. She bang her computer and her hard drive died. So I suggested her to buy a SSD and she got a Samsung 840 PRO 250GB SSD and have it installed in her dell computer. I told her to order her Windows 7 Recovery Disc from Dell and she did that and got it in mail. She install it back to factory and everything seem to be fine. She did a windows update, a dell driver update from the CD and the website, and a lot more however her computer keep shutting down too often, I have her teamviewer with me and I check for every problems to see what is causing her laptop to shut down often:

1. I did a computer check up by dell using the "MY DELL" it found no problems [all of it was passed]
2. I did followed the "BSOD" on my dell tell me to install virus scanner, scan for virus, update bios from dell.com, update lastest drivers from dell.com, do a computer check up. I did all that and yet it still show BSOD
3. I even check for chkdisk.exe using the command prompt and it found no error... I did Chkdisk.exe/f, I also did chkdisk.exe/r, still no error found.
4. I have her do a "Last known good configuration" in the Advanced Options and it still shut down and BSOD
5. I also have her do a "Repair Your Computer" the problem still there.

Seem like there is no other opinions... Should I try the sfc/scannow in the command prompt? What else is there to do? HELP?!

UPDATED: Now it seem like Dell inspiron N5050 can't detected the SSD. I was gonna do a clean install of windows 7 and it isn't showing the SSD, I checked the Bios where it said "Fixed HDD" it shown "NONE". So what to do? It was working fine yesterday and now it seem to go deeper and deeper.

Latitude E7440 - Loud Processing Noises

Hello Community,

2 days ago I was given a new work laptop - the E7440 (its brand new).

Straight away I noticed some loud buzzing noises which a fellow colleague said was the fan. It's quite annoying. I soon noticed however when my laptop was idle these noises would stop, and when I clicked they would start again. Whenever I ask the Laptop to do anything these noises start up, and considering im active on the machine all day - they are giving me a headache.

There are high pitched, buzzing noises. And as mentioned are aligned to when the laptop is processing something. They also make sounds when I scroll the mouse for example.

Whats the issue here? My internal support team said deal with it. Is there an issue with the hardware though? Its brand new.

Cheers,

HELP?!?! I have no idea what im doing.

How can I enable log in to Windows 7 by fingerprint?

I've received a company-owned DELL Latitude E7240 which had the original OS (Win8 probably) erased and had installed a Windows 7 Enterprise. There is no DigitalPersona or other fingerprint reader software installed. What should I do in order to enable account login by fingerprint? Thank you, Andrei Rinea.

Inspiron 5537 Keyboard - Num Lock key

My recently purchased Insiron 5537 has a keyboard that includes a numeric keypad on the right side.  It has a NumLk key that does seem to function:  when it is active, the number keys and all the PgUp, PgDn, Home, End keys work as expected.  As do the arrow keys located nearby.

When I press the NumLk key, the numbers stop working as numbers, and those keys seem to function as arrow keys, home, end, pg up  pg dn etc.  The keys marked PgUP, PgDn, Home, End, and the arrow keys also function as expected.

What is strange to me is that there is no light or other indicator on the NumLk key to indicate that it is active.  Nothing I can see onscreen to tell me either.

How do I tell if the NumLk key is active without testing the number keys?  That seems really stupid to me not to have an indicator.  Is there a setting somewhere that I can activate so I get an indicator of the NumLk status?

Brand new Dell Inspiron won't shut down

I just bought an Inspiron 15R SE (Inspiron 7520 Base, Windows 8 64bit) and I'm already running into difficulties. It won't shut down! Whenever I tell it to shut down, windows remains open... and when I try to run anything from then on it crashes. It's not a matter of waiting for it to shut down either, as I left it on overnight and it was still running in the morning. The only way I can turn it off is to hold down the power button... and I know that's not good for it.

I can't imagine the system is overly busy as I have just 5 programmes on it so far: Firefox, Google Chrome, Steam, TF2, and Spotify.

I'm not a happy bunny.

Any suggestions much appreciated!

Fresh Imagine On My XPS 15

I just re imagined my Dell XPS 15 (L521x), but I can't seem to put Cyberlink back on.  And because my laptop is no longer under warranty, I can't get Dell's help.  Can anyone tell me where I can find the Cyberlink download for Dell laptops.

If you have any questions, please ask.

Thanks

Dell XPS 15 - USB 3.0 Problem

0
0

I have just purchased a Dell XPS 15. I decided to buy a 2.5" USB 3.0 caddie to plug my existing laptop hard drive into so I could transfer the data across. The drive from my old laptop is a 500GB hard disk.

When you plug in the caddie with the 500GB drive in, you get one of two things happen. Either the driver fails to install, or the drive is not detected what so ever.

I work for a Dell reseller so we have other Dell XPS 15 laptops in stock, so I decided to test on one of those and it does the exact same thing.

I decided to change the hard drive in the caddie - I changed it for a 160GB hard drive - this works absolutely fine on USB 3.0.

I put my 500GB hard drive back in the caddie and plugged it into my friends desktop system which also has USB 3.0 - it works absolutely fine which confirms it is not a fault with the caddie.

I decided it could need either a bios update or the latest USB 3.0 drivers installed. On checking on the website the latest bios is A03 which is the version I already have on my laptop. I checked the drivers under chipset and found "Renesas USB3.0 Host Controller" - I downloaded and installed this but during installation it pops up saying:

My next diagnostic would be to put another 500GB hard drive in the caddie of a different manufacturer (current is Samsung) and see if that works to confirm if it is a compatibility issue, or if the system cannot handle a 500GB hard drive in the USB 3.0 port. Unfortunately at the moment I don't have a spare 500GB drive.

Can Dell give any clarification on this matter? Do any of Dells other laptops use the same controller for USB 3.0 as the XPS 15?

XPS 1645 Laptop Motherboard...

I have an XPS 1645 laptop that needs the motherboard replaced.  The board that is in it is the 0Y507R, which I believe has the Radeon 4670 video chipset.  At the moment, I can only find a 0WDH9C motherboard.  I need to  know if anyone can tell me what the video chipset is on this board.  Any input will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.
