I have a 6 month old Dell Inspiron 3521 that got stepped on during a power outage and cracked the screen. It is acting crazy- zooming in and out at random and the mouse only works about half the time. I have done a lot of searching but haven't been able to find any information on how to disable the touch screen. Any help would be appreciated

Stereoscopic vision on Dell Precision M6800 with NVIDIA Quadro K5100M and 3D ready display

Hi,

We have Dell Precision M6800 with NVIDIA Quadro K5100M and  Alienware2310 stereo ready display.

connector:  DVI-PC display.

We have  3D vision emitter and shutter glasses  (3D vision kit).

We want to obtain openGL stereo  with this hardware configuration.

The settings:

System setting -  Desktop only on Alienware2310.

NVIDIA settings:

Custom settings :

resolution:1280x720

refrash rate: 120HZ

color: 32bit  depth

We obtain on display two frames but sync with glasses very bad.

When we trying  to switch to setup stereoscopic 3D (non openGL stereo) the 32bit color depth automatically replaced by 16 bit color depth for our resolution and refresh rate (1280x720,120Hz).

We haven't by default 120Hz refresh rate for any display resolution for our system configuration (maximum 75Hz).

Can you explain what  is wrong in our configuration and settings?

Best Regards,Tami

M4800 laptop: its panel 3200x1800 + 3 monitors (each 1920x1080) capture

Attachment (2688x540) is a resize (30% in each dimension) from original 8960x1800, whole desktop capture of a M4800 laptop panel (3200x1800) with three monitors connected at its DP, VGA and HDMI ports.

Really, since I had only one monitor (1920x1080) when doing the capture, I connected it on its three connectors (DVI, VGA and HDMI) to the M4800. Note 8960=3200+3*1920.

This capture shows that the M4800 graphics can handle natively its panel plus three monitors independently. Common laptops only admit one (for more you need USB adaptors).

Can someone try this on a M4800 with bigger monitors, even 4K (3840x2160)? Others are 2560x1600, 2560x1440, 2560x1080 and the new 3440x1440.

M4800 and External Monitors

We have recently deployed a Dell Precision M4800 and are having problems getting it to display correctly on the two U2414H monitors connected to the Port Replicator (which is the same Port Replicator we were using with our Latitude E6430 Laptops).

What happens is that the monitors are mixed up (#1 on the right and #2 on the left regardless of what I do) and when you log in as a different User, #2 goes to 640x480 'Generic PnP' which is obviously no use.

I've tried reinstalling both the Intel and AMD Drivers, but this has had no effect.

Any ideas?

Dell Wireless 5570 - problem with linux.

Hi,

im fighting with run this modem (original name MC8805 from Sierra Wireless)  under linux (Ubuntu 12.04), Kernel 3.11.7 with small modification - added ID product ID and vendor ID to the sierra.c driver and now i see the ttyUSB* devices corectly. But.

Modem starts in low power mode (forced by BIOS?) - flag triggered to 1:

at!pcinfo show:

State: LowPowerMode
LPM force flags - W_DISABLE:0, User:0, Temp:0, Volt:0
LPM force flags - BIOS:1, GOBIIM:0, IM_AttachDelay:0
W_DISABLE: 0
Poweroff mode: 0
LPM Persistent: 0

but i have on the same laptop Windows 7 - and when i first boot windows 7 system and do soft reboot and boot linux again the modem works:

State: Online
LPM force flags - W_DISABLE:0, User:0, Temp:0, Volt:0
LPM force flags - BIOS:0, GOBIIM:0, IM_AttachDelay:0
W_DISABLE: 0
Poweroff mode: 0
LPM Persistent: 0

So i think that windows driver sends some command/signal to modem for wake up? What it can be?

When the modem is in LowPowerMode when im trying to mage AT+CFUN=1 gives me error.

My laptop is Dell E7240. I have two latptops with this cards and problem is the same.

I updated the bios for the laptops to A06, problem exists still.

Latitude E5430 - Problems with fan control

Hi, I just bought a Latitude E5430 expecting to get some Dell Business notebook Quality. I am using Windows 8 x64 (in UEFI-mode) with BIOS A09 and the latest Drivers available from dell.com.

The issue that I am encountering is that as soon as the fan turns on, it does not turn off for a long time (blowing out cool air), even though there is no high system load (just Internet Explorer opened) and the temperature is below 50C.

Basically, the fan starts at some temperature threshold, cools down the CPU to 38-40C, and even though the running fan does not cause the CPU to cool down more, it keeps running for a long time (10 minutes and counting) (while the CPU temperature constantly stays at 38-40C). :-(

Please forward this issue to the BIOS development department so that they can provide an update which improves fan control.

Everyone also having this issue, please have a look at this post from Dell-Terry B:

Dell L521X touchpad not responding.

Its been long time I bought my Dell L521X in december 2012. I have been using windows 7 in it and it was working fine. Last time one of my friend came and he wanted to check the hardware inside my laptop and we opened the laptop. We fixed everything and he even broke the wire of audio port and card reader. I bought the new one and fixed the laptop. It again got problem with BSOD and  I fixed that too. Now the problem is that my touchpad is not working. I don't know what happened. I checked the cables of the touchpad to see if it is not connected and all of it are well connected. Can anyone tell me how  to fix the touchpad? What is wrong with the touchpad?

R236961 chipset driver doesn't install

I used the dell site to identify drivers that need updating via the service tag as well as the system detect.  All of them installed with relative ease except for the R236961 chipset driver.  Here is what happens:

  1. I download the driver
  2. I double click the downloaded file and it extracts to c:/dell/drivers/R236961
  3. I navigate to the above location and run the setup.exe
  4. An installer guides me through the install and it finishes and everything looks fine but when I go to the dell site again it still doesn't recognize that the chipset driver is installed

Is this a problem with the auto-detect on the Dell site or am I botching the driver install somehow?  Where would I look to determine if this driver is actually getting installed?

Latitude E6420 XFR Fully Rugged LaptopChange Battery removal

Does anybody know where to get a new removal stick-on tab for this type of Lattitude battery; when you get a replacement/back-up battery it comes without the stick-on tab (see right) therefore making it extremely difficult to swap in/out as the battery runs down.

Dead Hard Drive Inspiron 15 N5010

The hard drive in my laptop dropped dead without warning, i.e. no blue screen of death or black screen of death. It's a Seagate Momentus 5400.6 500 GB. The laptop was purchased in 2011, and is, of course, out of warrant. Anyone else have a drive die on them like this?

Dell Inspiron 1545 blue screen of death

I've had my laptop for a few years and recently a message telling me to get a new battery because mine 'had reached the end of it's rechargeable life' kept appearing when i logged in. Now when i turn my laptop on this blue screen appears with lots of white writing on it. I've taken the battery out and switched it on with only the charger plugged in and the same screen keeps appearing. Think it's time I got a new laptop but would just like to get all my files off my laptop due to precious pictures, videos, uni work etc.. Any help would be appreciated.
