Warranty

Hi, I don't know how to reach out but I am really fed up of calling dell customer support innumerable times, I have a bill dated 10th June 2013 and the warranty I promised was 1 year but that has expired on 15th April. I have contacted your service center innumerable times and they are not able to help me. They said I need to speak to the retailer to sort this out, due to retailer not being at the same location I was not able to reach to him immediately and Dell could not help me with this again in-spite of attaching them the copy of the bill in the community forums. Now finally the retailer has mailed the distributor the copy of bill but still my warranty has not been updated, what should I do??

The screen shakes upon start up, and then goes blank. it does come back on for a moment, but not long enough to do anything. its no longer under warranty and i have tried some of the suggestions through the forum but have not succeeded, please help!

hi folks! I need to replace the front bezel on my latitude 6500, but I can not find a parts list in spite of having a tag number;  <ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy> could someone help to rectify this please. the model is too old for replacement from dell, but I have found several of different types. don't want to order the wrong one I have already downloaded the manual etc; no parts numbers given!

XPS 15Z chrome strip

Does anyone know of a way to repair or replace this with something higher quality? I haven't had my laptop long and the chrome is flaking off and it has such a sharp edge it cut my finger nail just by brushing up against it wrong.

I love this laptop, but the chrome strip is driving me crazy... 

Fails to boot up

15R 2370 Dell Laptop Will not boot. When PW is typed in, a screen states that "the user profile service failed the logon". Not sure what to try. Have tried re-boot several times. Have run a 'Diagnostics' scan. And a few other things. Need some assistance to solve this problem.

Dell Vostro recovery partition boot not working

Hi everyone,

I have a Vostro 3550 and want to boot the winRE.wim on the recovery partition to reset the laptop to factory state. If I hit F8 during windows start and then select "Repair computer" in then boot menu, the "Windows is loading files" screen and the progress bar from PE are shown, but if the bar reached 100% the computer stops booting and nothing more as a black screen is seen. I noticed that after such a boot attempt the filesystem on the harddisk is damaged and I must run chkdsk to repair. Then I switched the BCD of Windows 7 to the winRE.wim from Windows 7 on the system drive and this image is booting without any problems, but here I can not reset computer to factory state, because the Dell software is missing in this image...

Can anybody help with some hints?

How to change Asset Tag???

I had to change my motherboard on my Studio XPS 1645 because the graphics chip went bad.  I installed a new BIOS (A13) and while there were major issues with the install of the new BIOS, it seems to have worked.  So despite getting an error message ("BIOS update failed,  Image verication failed.  Error code -200"), MSINFO32 does show that I am running with the A13 BIOS.  And the computer runs.

But how do I change the Asset Tag?

Dell Vostro 1720 stalling badly

Hi,

my 2009 Dell Vostro 1720 is stalling badly. Especially on booting and starting / stopping programs. I swapped the memory from another Vostro in it to see if the memory was broken, but same effect.

not sure if its a messed up install in the meantime ...

I had used registry clean up tools in the past maybe 10 times and each time after i had to re-install windows due to n effect or broken windows from it, so that option i doubt in the meantime and am not considering to use again.

any hint what to check hardware or software, before i re-install windows ?

dell latitude e7440 touch - uneven illumination

As I read about problems with screen in Dell xps 12 I bought an refurbished dell latitude e7440.  It looks very good, It weights a bit too much, but it is not a big problem for me. Problem for me is an uneven illumination. Maybe I did not see many monitors, but this look very bad in my opinion:

On live it looks even worse.

I have few days to send it back. Is there any chance to get dell e7440 touch with high quality screen, with even illumination? Is it common issue? Or there is the same situation as with dell xps 12?

Does non-touch FHD version has better quality screen?

I do not know if I should send it back, and order other touch e7440, or order non-touch e7440, call for dell support to replace screen, or... buy something else because screens in dell laptops are worse than those in the  cheapest notebooks.

Laptop Not Working!

I have a Dell Inspiron 1564. A couple of weeks ago i had some problems with the power adapter. When i plugged it into my laptop the light switched off and the LED light on my laptop for the battery remained off. As i was busy I left the laptop as it was and continued my work on my mother's laptop. I have now just gone back to my laptop and the light on the adapter is working even when i plug it into my laptop. However the LED light does not come on. The screen does not switch on at all. I think its the CPU light that comes on very dim. When i tried pressing the power button the laptop made a continuous screechy sound until i took out the power adapter. I have no idea whats happened? please help?

Reset Dell Lat D630 to Previous Settings

I recently downloaded Firefox and unknowingly some "tag along" extras.  I want to reset my laptop to the previous settings but during the boot up I no longer get the screen where I can hit F11 to reset my computer.  Is there another way to do this?  Thank you.

Renesas USB host controller not working on Dell N4110

First, sorry for my English.

I have Inspiron N4110. Few days ago two USB ports 3.0 in right side did not work as normal (this time I use Windows 7 Enterprise 64bit SP1). After that, I uninstalled Renesas 3.0 host controller, restart laptop and installed new driver. And this still not work.

I format C drive and set up Wins 7 Enterprise 64bit again, install new drivers again and two USB 3.0 ports work, yeah it works, but when i turn off and restart my latop 1 again that two ports stop working (lol)

I format C drive again, set up new windows 7 ultimate 64bit, install new driver and it happens as i have done with Wins 7 Enterprise.

Somebody pls help me

Location of Bluetooth Module on Precision M4500

Can someone please tell me where the Bluetooth module on a Precision M4500 MWS is supposed to go? The computer didn't come with the BT option so I bought one. I opened the Service Manual I found online and followed the directions for removing the BT module. Everything's apart but I can't find where the module is supposed to fasten to the board and where the connector is that it plugs into.

Why did they leave illustrations out of this manual? I've seen other Dell Service Manuals that include illustrations on where certain boards and cables and parts are located; but not in the M4500 Service Manual. Some consistency in putting these things together would be nice.

How do you check if BIOS is working correctly?

I had to replace my motherboard on my Studio XPS 1645 laptop.  After the replacement, I installed BIOS A13 to update the BIOS.  But I got an error ("BIOS Update Failed.  Image Verification failed.  Error code -200")

But I shut down the computer and booted it back up (after several times), the computer booted up, I verified that I have BIOS A13 and I am able to get to the BIOS screen.

But how do I know that the BIOS was correctly installed?  Is there something I can do to make sure it works?  Or is a working computer enough verification?

Dell Precision 6500 Laptop Screen Went Black

My 2010 M6500 screen went black. You can kind of see the icons on the monitor, but it's very dark. It was working fine this morning, but then it started typing funny, so I restarted it. Once I did that, the screen just wouldn't come back on. 


R236961 chipset driver doesn't install

I used the dell site to identify drivers that need updating via the service tag as well as the system detect.  All of them installed with relative ease except for the R236961 chipset driver.  Here is what happens:

  1. I download the driver
  2. I double click the downloaded file and it extracts to c:/dell/drivers/R236961
  3. I navigate to the above location and run the setup.exe
  4. An installer guides me through the install and it finishes and everything looks fine but when I go to the dell site again it still doesn't recognize that the chipset driver is installed

Is this a problem with the auto-detect on the Dell site or am I botching the driver install somehow?  Where would I look to determine if this driver is actually getting installed?

any other info you guys need?  Thanks for any light you can shed on this problem

Cursor jumps around when typing

This has been happening when typing emails in Outlook. It will be interesting to see if it happens while typing this. So far it's been OK. I have a Dell XPS M1530. There it did it just then, the 1530 jumped into the subject field. It always jumps into somewhere I have already typed. So it doesn't just happen in Outlook. It is very annoying. I am using a Bluetooth mouse, but also there is a touchpad just under my hands. Could it be that I bump it by mistake?

I don't know it that's the problem as the touchpad cursor is different to the typing cursor. I'm watching the touchpad cursor and it's not moving. The typing cursor is behaving itself now. I have just moved the touchpad cursor up the screen a bit and the typing cursor is still behaving itself. Sorry about all this running commentary on what's happening, but it was misbehaving before and now it's not.

Does anyone have any clues on this problem? While I am typing my hands are well clear of the touchpad. It just jumped again, and it did not jump to where the touchpad cursor was, so it's not related to that.

M6700 dead pixels, monitor flickering

Im currently getting flickering in my display when under high load, additionally dead pixels have begun to pop up. I need to get some support on this ASAP because I'm going to be leaving and relying heavily on my M6700. 

I've emailed a few contacts at dell to no avail, Im hoping this thread gets attention.

Alienware m17x r3 Graphic card problems

hey, well i bought the m17x r3 about 3 years ago so basically i no longer hace a warranty. last year i started having problems with the graphic card. the laptop crashed while I played, i took it to several technical supports and no one could fix it nor find the main problem (guessing its the graphic card since i disabled it and it hasn't crashed since but can barelly use any programs). now i decided to just buy a new card but it turns out that the 580m is discontinued. 

I would really appreciate any help on how o where to get another better card to replace it.

Vostro 3460 - standy by issue

My Vostro 3460 has recently developed a annoying issue.

About 1 or 2 a week it will not go into stand by properly. that is, I will leave the machine and usually after about 10 minutes it will go into standy by mode, when I come back I press the power button and the laptop comes back to life.

Well what happens sometimes now is that I come back to my desk and the screen has dimmed (which is okay) when I wiggle the mouse, the screen comes back on, but I can't do anything. using Ctrl-Alt-Del does nothing. Alt-F4 does nothing. using fn+<key> does some things (like turning on or off the wireless). I can move windows around, but I can't close the apps down.  All I can do is press and hold the power button and reboot.

It does this about one or twice a week.

Previously I had a video issue where once a week I would get a blue screen. But this seems to have gone away with a BIOS update - or a driver update. Hard to tell with intermittent issues!

I have a Vostro 3460, 8 Gig Ram, 1TB Disk. (I upgraded the memory and disk myself)

I have done a full thorough diagnostic from the F12 key on boot. nothing turned up there.

I can only think its a device driver. I have had issue with the Intel Management Engine Inteface Driver..it doesn't seem to install properly. Though when I look at the driver in the Device Manager I can see it installed.

Any ideas what is going on. How I can diagnose which device and driver is causing this issue.
