when the power button is ON, power button is glowing, but nothing is displaying on the screen. fan is running. when i connect charger, it is charging( charging light is glowing). RAM is working.
i don't have warranty, so, can plaese suggest about the problem.

We received 2 brand new E7240s directly from Dell, one for myself and one for my colleague. As soon as I turned it on to build it for my colleague, I noticed the machine was overheating and the fan was making a noise. Dell suggested a BIOS upgrade which didn't change anything. They then changed the heatsink, again this changed nothing and since then they changed the motherboard. My colleague has gone on holiday so I don't know if her issue has been resolved, however, my laptop from day one does not overheat (as obviously as it did for my colleague) BUT THE FAN TURNS ALL THE TIME. So much so that I think the person in the upstairs bedroom is using her hairdryer. Dell replaced the heatsink and the motherboard yesterday, I have done the same BIOS upgrade and the problem is even worse. As soon as I switch the thing on, the ventilator turns all the time making a loud noise. My previous model was the E6500 and I wasn't bothered by any noises it made.
The 7240 makes so much noise that I want to throw it out of the window 
, seriously I am going to switch back to my 5 year old e6500 which is now very slow, I just can't take the constant hair dryer noise from the fan! I am waiting for Dell to get back to me but I don't see what else they can do.
I suspect there is a design problem with newer models, someone with a Latitude 13 Notebook has also mentioned it on the forums, also someone else with an e7240 states "I have noticed the fan running much of the time - it's quiet but you're aware it's spinning. I am just setting it up though, so the CPU is fairly busy." A person with the e6320 states "And the fan is loud and turns itself on way too often".

hi guys :) my boyfriend and I are trying to fix my brothers old laptop and would really appreciate some ideas. the laptop model is an inspiron 1545. we thought the hdd was faulty so we have bought a new one and replaced it, only problem is it refuses to boot from any drive. Can't boot from hdd and can't boot from disc or usb. It tells us it can see the hdd but then claims to have no bootable items. We've pulled the hdd out and used another computer to add windows 7 successfully but the laptop just dosen't want to work. We'd both really apreciate any ideas. thanks heaps guys :)
My Dell Inspiron 14z N411z Battery LED Blinks White & Orange, and there is no power or charging?
This is the second time this has happened. The first time it happened, my laptop was under warranty and Dell came out to "fix" it.
However, it's only been a few months and it broke again...only this time I'm out of the warranty period.
Does anyone know what these LED battery codes mean?
I have tested several Dell OEM AC adapters and none of them will power on or charge my 14z.

Received a new Latitude E7440 today, and I like having the option of a pointing stick and a trackpad depending on what I'm doing, however the pointing stick apparently also can be "clicked" instead of using the dedicated buttons... this is annoying to say the least.
When I'm moving the mouse pointer with the pointing stick, if I press a little too hard it thinks I'm trying to do a click/drag.
I can operate the dedicated buttons just fine, so is there some way to disable this pressure-sensitive click feature on the pointing stick? Otherwise I'll have to disable the stick entirely as it's more annoying that having somebody randomly clicking the mouse buttons while you're trying to work.. ;)

My XPS27 out of the box started flashing off then on, initially it was intermittent and only happened once every few days. I called Dell Service, they advised me that I needed a couple of new updates and I should be okay. They remotely loaded the updates, now my screen flashes off and on continuously and is not useable. A technician came to my house and replaced the mother board, LCD and everything else but a couple of cables, no solution. I have been told that a box will arrive at my house today and I must send the entire unit back to the factory for repair. I have been a loyal Dell customer for years, what has happened to Dell? I bought this computer for my granddaughter for college and now she has nothing. Frustration!!!
i have a 1545 and had 4 new hard drive in it since i got it, each one lasted at the most 6 months.... so i decided to get a bigger and different hard drive this time. hadn't had any problems with it. However i also upgraded windows from vista to 7...my computer is super slow now, cant hardly do anything on it without everything stop responding and taken forever to pull up ext. why is this? it shows that everything is up to date. Does this have something to do with my new large hard drive? please help!

I was able to load all drivers exceptI for the wireless card,
I receive a message Onot compatible error message 00
before the fresh install the wireless card was working and
it works fine with windows 8 and still his.

I think I read somewhere that Windows 8.1 will let you use a USB flash drive to create a system image backup manually from File History. Is that correct? If so, does it just have to be large enough to hold the space used on your HDD? I just want to create a system image to use in case my HDD ever fails. I don't care about scheduling backups. I was going to buy a portable HD, but I see so many problems with them that I would think a flash drive would be more stable,if it would work. Thanks for any info. Is anyone trying this?

I just bought my Inspiron 14z Ultrabook three days ago. The first time works fine, but now it's frozen on the Dell logo screen.
I have been able to run a diagnostic test if I hit the f12, and it's all ok.
When I hit f8 and the bar is fully loaded nothing happens.
I don't know what else can do. Please help me.
Hi, Just purchased an Inspiron 9400 on eBay & was about to update the BIOS from A01 directly to A10 - then came across couple threads suggesting I must update to A09 before A10. These threads do not pertain to the 9400 but thought best to ask anyway. A08 looks to be the most important update.
Also have seen Dell machines before that required a patch before upgrading the BIOS beyond A01? If a patch were required would I see it on the ftp driver pages?

I am using Windows 8.1 (orignally system was preloaded with Win 8) which is causing a few small problems like the touchpad notification light (enable or disable light-small orange LED) is not working, airplane mode has multiple entries like when Fn+F2 is pressed, airplane mode is enabled but system shows it as disabled.
So does these problems is solved in this BIOS?
Is it safe to update to A11 or is this some kind of beta BIOS?
Please also may I know the overall issues fixed in this BIOS update?

My laptop started doing the 7 beeps and black screen about 6 months ago. My daughter uses this laptop primarily for school work and now has no computer to use!! This is absolute bull *** that Dell won't repair these computers or perform a recall, it is only about 14 months old. What a joke!!!! They build and sell defective *** and won't own up to the fact that their computers are JUNK!!! All they want is our money!!! Billionaire Michael Dell basically robbing 14 year old girls out of their savings when they purchase Dell products. Dell , own up to the fact that their are thousands of people who gave you their hard earned money and in return you screwed them!!
