I am attempting to restore my Inspiron 1420 to factory settings. I am no longer using the computer, and am planning on giving it to someone else, so I would like my personal information removed.
All of the support links say to choose Repair Your Computer from the Advanced Boot Options menu, but when I get there, I do not have that option. The options I have, in order, are: Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Enable Boot Logging, Enable low-resolution video, Last Known Good Configuration, Directory Services Restore Mode, Debugging Mode, Disable automatic restart on system failure, Disable Driver Signature Enforcement, and Start windows normally.
Apparently, since my computer is out of warranty, it is impossible to contact Dell tech support without paying fees. I also cannot find any documentation about whether or not I need restore discs. I do not think I have them, but I know it would be possible to boot from the disc and restore that way. Can anyone offer me some insight? I have been getting pretty frustrated on the regular support pages.
Thank you for your time and help!
