graphic card check

Few days back i purchased dell 15R core i 7 (4thGen) 5537. I checked its graphic card online on various sites which was amd radeon 8870M 2 gb. But after installing graphic drivers from official amd site and even from dell support it shows that i have 8670M 2gb graphic card.

Can you tell me are there any different model comes with 5537 or i just get betrayed by a retailer? If there are any other models with different graphic card models then is there any difference in the prices??

Inspiron N5110 - Battery works but laptop will not run off it

I have a year and a half old Inspiron N5110, and it's had a weird problem for a few months now. [started right outside the warranty period :(  ]

My laptop runs fine off the adapter, but it says "Plugged In, not charging", and it simply switches off when I pull the plug. The battery has about 80% charge, and works fine (charges and discharges) on other laptops. I've put in other batteries in my laptop, and it does not work with them either. The battery charging indicator blinks white and orange (4 short orange blinks, 1 longer white).

So my battery works, my adapter works, the power jack works, but this laptop cannot charge or run off batteries. I have tried cleaning the contacts between the laptop and the battery, but it still does not work.

Could this be due to some bios setting that disables the use of the battery, or is my motherboard broken? :(

DELL Laptop constantly dropping wireless network

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 with Windows 8.1 installed and all updates installed. I use Google Chrome as a web browser. Since I have gotten this laptop about a month ago, it has not kept the wifi connection at work for a whole day.

I am able to use the Internet for 2-3 searches before I get one of the following messages;:

DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NO_INTERNET

EMPTY SERVER RESPONSE

or

SSL CONNECTION ERROR.

Disconnecting and reconnecting sometimes works for five minutes, or sometimes the wifi router isn't even visible after disconnecting. This is odd since on the laptop it still displays as having Internet (being connected) but none of the browsers work. Firefox and Internet Explorer simply crashes, and Chrome comes back with an error.

My Samsung Galaxy S4 uses the same wifi connection and has never had a problem.

I've added Chrome to both Windows' own firewall and to my anti virus firewall, to no avail. None of the things we have tried works.

Is there anything I can do? Is there something missing,  or is this a Dell problem?

I've had several problems with the laptop I bought only 4 months ago, and I've received very little help towards rectifying all my problems.

The most recent problem was that the motherboard already had to be replaced due to damage caused by the delivery company.

Now that I've received the replacement motherboard and changed it for the old one, it won't recognise or charge my battery, which still works fine, charges from the old motherboard and gives it power.

Any post I've seen points to there being a fault with the motherboard being on its way out. This is a brand new motherboard. The battery and AC adapter are both working perfectly. What is the problem now?
Thanks in advance.

BIOS Update

Hello

I want to upgrade the BIOS on my Inspiron 1545 to the latest version, which is running Windows 8.1 Update 1. However, I know that Dell has stopped making updates and drivers for this laptop on windows 8. The latest version that I can get updates for is Windows 7.

This is the update that I would like to do: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/uk/en/ukdhs1/DriverDetails/Product/inspiron-1545?driverId=NDG06&osCode=WLH&fileId=2731092643&languageCode=en&categoryId=BI

I was wondering, if I download the latest BIOS update for Windows 7 on Windows 8.1 Update 1, will it still work?

Will it just break my laptop, or would it work?

I have opened the file, and there is a tick in the box, saying do you want to start the update.

Thanks

I'm using 64 bit Windows if that helps.

Getting to the BIOS menu on a Dell Inspiron 11 3138

I have a Dell Inspiron 11 3138 and am trying to get to the BIOS menu, so can see how to change it to boot from a USB flash drive( just so know how for future use). Every thing I read says to hit PF2 repeatedly when the DELL splash comes up after powering on. When I do this, the bottom right corner shows PF2 setup, and PF12 boot menu. Whether I hit PF2 or PF12, there is no effect, and I just go to the password screen. What am I doing wrong?  Thanks for any help you can give me. My BIOS level is A09.

Dell Inspiron N5110 Shuts Down When Moving the Laptop

I have a Dell Inspiron N5110 laptop from my friend.  The laptop shuts down as soon as it is moved.  It keeps on working fine when it is sitting on the desk.

Here are some observations:

  1. It exhibits the problem for all the three cases:
    1. With only battery on.
    2. With only adapter on and battery removed.
    3. With both of them on.
  2. Once it shuts down, it does not turn back on by merely pressing the power button.  I have to remove the battery out to get it to power on again.

The fact that it happens with only battery on and with only adapter on, I don't think it is a loose connection issue.  Also the fact that it happens even when both the battery and the adapter is on, that also tells me that it is not a loose connection issue, because if I remove the battery slowly (so as to not trigger the issue) while it is powered on and the adapter connected, the laptop continues to work.  This means that if the battery connection was loose or something, it would not shut down if the adapter is connected.

The fact that it cannot be turned back on without removing the battery tells me that it is probably related to overheating.  But obviously there is no real overheating issue here, this happens even when the laptop is just turned on.  But it could be that the overheating detection mechanism is falsely triggering and shutting down the laptop and then it won't let it turn on since it now wants to wait for it to cool down.  (I haven't tried to wait for an hour or two before turning it on without replacing the battery - that would be a good test to verify the theory).

Could it be a loose fan on the motherboard?  Maybe the fan gets disconnected and the laptop thinks that there is no fan in the system and decides to shut down.

Here is the ironic part.  This laptop was sent to Dell twice for the exact same issue when it was under warranty.  They supposedly replaced the motherboard, but the problem was not fixed.  Now it is not under warranty any more.  Do you guys think Dell should still honor it since it is the same issue that was originally reported.

lost internet

I installed a new OptiPlex 3020 running Win7 64-bit Professional about two weeks ago. I was installing updates and programs. I ran a virus scan with AVG antivirus and Malwarebytes. After I rebooted, I no longer had internet access. I can access the OptiPlex from another computer on the network, using shared files or computer management. I can ping yahoo.com, but cannot access internet with any browser. I've uninstalled AVG and Malwarebytes and used system restore and updated the network driver, to no avail. I've booted into safe mode with networking, but still cannot access the internet. The OptiPlex is connected my router via Cat5 cable- not wireless. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

It immediately shows a Login screen when I touch a touchpad.

Inspiron 1420 System Restore

I am attempting to restore my Inspiron 1420 to factory settings. I am no longer using the computer, and am planning on giving it to someone else, so I would like my personal information removed.

All of the support links say to choose Repair Your Computer from the Advanced Boot Options menu, but when I get there, I do not have that option. The options I have, in order, are: Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Enable Boot Logging, Enable low-resolution video, Last Known Good Configuration, Directory Services Restore Mode, Debugging Mode, Disable automatic restart on system failure, Disable Driver Signature Enforcement,  and Start windows normally.

Apparently, since my computer is out of warranty, it is impossible to contact Dell tech support without paying fees. I also cannot find any documentation about whether or not I need restore discs. I do not think I have them, but I know it would be possible to boot from the disc and restore that way. Can anyone offer me some insight? I have been getting pretty frustrated on the regular support pages.

Thank you for your time and help!

Has someone noticed ghost images (screen burn-in) on Dell XPS 12 Duo?

I recently noticed ghost images on my Dell XPS 12 Duo. If a bright image on dark background stays on the screen for a couple of minutes and then I switch to somewhat dark background I can clearly see the previous image on the screen for some time before it fades away. Once I noticed it I started spotting even more subtle ghost images. I even managed to capture it in a picture with a low-end digital camera - http://imgur.com/a/RIYff (notice the tray icons clearly seen in the Win 8 start screen and even the facebook ad is visible). It is far more clear when you look at the actual screen and not on a picture. I already arranged replacement laptop (as I had other issues with this one) but yesterday I read news about mass defects in Apple's Retina MacBooks ( http://www.ibtimes.com/print/macbook-pro-retina-display-problems-apple-faces-class-action-suit-ghosting-issue-1129939 ) with practically the same issue. Now I wonder if it is possible that all Dell XPS 12 Duo screens have this problem.

So anyone else seeing this on his machine?

I want to know my fan status, change speed, etc.

I tried Speed Fan but it doesnt detect my fans, same with Hwinfo, with I8kfanGUI i cant even install it (I think because of incompatibility).

I read something of some dells have a "secret menu " called a a Thermal Control Panel where you can see your fan status and change its speed, you can access this menu by doing this:

- Press FN + Shift button
- While pressing those buttons press 1, 5, 3, 2, 4
- Release FN and Shift
- Press FN + R

But it doesnt work, any ideas?

Thanks!

Dell XPS 15z Shutdown without warning! Will not turn on!

I was using my Dell XPS 15z when it turned off (didn't shut down). The system made a click noise and then it was gone; it will not power on. I get no battery lights and I get nothing when pressing the power button. I verified the AC adapter is working. When I plug the AC power in the wall socket, the light comes on; however, when I connect the Ac to the laptop the power light goes out on the AC adapter. The system was not hot, no burning smells. There appears to be substantial number of XPS systems experiencing the same failure.  I have tried a second AC adapter and no joy. I have read most of Dell's responses to this same issue. The fell its a motherboard failiure. Has Dell issued a recall for XPS 15Z since this is a known issue?

Latitude D620 restore problems

I have a Latitude D620 that I need to restore to factory. Everything I've read says to power the unit off and then back on and press and hold F8 to bring up the advanced boot menu and then go to "repair my computer" to start the process. Only problem is that when I press F8 that option isn't available. what comes up is the "windows advanced options menu" and the only options that are available are as follows:

Safe mode

SM w/ networking

SM w/ command prompt

Enable boot logging

Enable VGA mode

Last known good config.

Directory services restore mode

Debugging mode

Disable auto restart on sys failure

Start windows normally

Reboot Return to OS choices menu

and thats it. Am I doing something wrong. Everything I read has the exact same process. Any help would be apprecieated.

Dell Inspiron 15 5010 won't start, it is beeping continuously (4 beeps) with intervals .

Hi All,

I have Dell inspiron 5010, It suddenly started giving 4 beep sounds when I tried to poweron. After reading the Forum , I came to know that 4 beeps at regular screen is possible cause of RAM failure. I just removed 1 RAM (2 GB out of 4 GB), and it start working fine, but after 2 weeks again it started making 4 beep sound. Now I just ordered new RAM a both the RAM making the same beeps, but after installing new RAM, the laptop still making 4 beep and not booting up,

I read in some forum about the fn key and power button to go to diagnosis page, but the screen is totally black, not even dell logo is coming, so can't do anything, just hearing 4 beeps.

Any suggestion?

Thanks

Prashant
