Beeping noise on start up, reboots after.

I have a dell inspiron 1545 that runs windows 7. A few weeks back my computer started lagging and I turned it off in the hopes that the ram would clear and it would run again. Uppon starting it back up, I got past the logo screen only to be greeted by a flury of beeps (too fast to distinguish any pattern) and then the computer restarted itself only to do this again. I took it to my local tech support people and they were unable to fix it but were able to provide me with a work around. By pulling out one of my 2 ram sticks I can make the computer run after it tells me the memory has changed. While this is working for now, I dont wish this to be how I have to start my computer. Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

Dell XPS 15z Shutdown without warning! Will not turn on!

I was using my Dell XPS 15z when it turned off (didn't shut down). The system made a click noise and then it was gone; it will not power on. I get no battery lights and I get nothing when pressing the power button. I verified the AC adapter is working. When I plug the AC power in the wall socket, the light comes on; however, when I connect the Ac to the laptop the power light goes out on the AC adapter. The system was not hot, no burning smells. There appears to be substantial number of XPS systems experiencing the same failure.  I have tried a second AC adapter and no joy. I have read most of Dell's responses to this same issue. The fell its a motherboard failiure. Has Dell issued a recall for XPS 15Z since this is a known issue?

Hi

sorry for reposting.

I am using dell inspiron 15R 5537. It has 8gb of ram installed out of which 7.7gb was usable. but unfortunately my mother board was changed, but after mother board was changed usable ram increased to 7.9gb thus decreasing hardware reserve I guess. Is there a way to change usable ram? I Want to set it to the default value of 7.7gb.

DELL M531R-5535 Windows 7 Drivers HERE

I want to share with everyone how to get drivers for Windows 7 for Dell M531R-5535. The machine comes with Windows 8, and Dell drivers website does not have support for Windows 7 for this model.

First thing I did is I'd found out my LAN adapter using system information software like SIW or many others. In my case it was Realtek RTL8101. I believe all those models have RTL8101 or other Realtek adapter. In any case it can be downloaded from here http://www.realtek.cz/realtek-download.php?realtek=RTL8101E&system=6

Make sure you download 64bit driver for Win 7 64, and 32bit for Win7 32.

After you download, extract the files and update LAN driver manually.

After that I used AMD auto detect utility where it detected which video driver I needed. The link for this is here http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/auto-detect-tool

And finally I used excellent software SlimDrivers Free. It did find automatically the rest of drivers I was missing and installed them. Download from here https://www.slimwareutilities.com/slimdrivers.php

Good luck everyone. I hope you'll be very happy not to be stuck with Windows 8.

CAPS LOCK on Inspiron Mini 910 running Windows 8.1 x86...

Hi...

Recently, I bought a used Inspiron Mini 910.  After replacing the broken STEC SSD ("Operating System Not Found") with a Kingspec 64GB one, I had an extra license of Windows 8.1 Pro 32-bit & loaded it on the Mini and it works very well!!! (Not bad for a little Atom processor that's not even x64 capable with only 2GB RAM...)

Anyway, I have all the drivers & Device Manager shows no yellow exclamation points.  However, the one thing I can't tell is the status of CAPS LOCK.  With the cramped keyboard, I find myself hitting that button instead of  the letter A.  Yes, I could use Windows 8.1's "Ease of Access Center" to give me sounds when I press it, but that's not always useful since I often have the PC on mute...

So, I'd like some sort of visual on-screen software to tell me that CAPS LOCK is on.  I know that Dell provides such utilities for certain model lines...  So...

Does Dell have any generic software that visually shows the CAPS LOCK status on Windows 8.1 32-bit?  It could be software that comes with XPS models, servers, limited to Dell / Inspiron PCs, etc.  If it's compatible with Vista or newer, then I'm fine with it--but I don't want to load an old version designed for XP only.

I'd rather avoid 3rd party software as 1) too much of it loads adware & malware; 2) Dell's version would be free.  And the BIOS has been upgraded to the most recent, A07.  Any thoughts?

Moving my Win 7 Pro to a replacement hard drive

Greetings,

I recently picked up a Dell E6410 coming off a business lease - it's a nice machine but it came with a very small hard drive (160g) - well, maybe not everybody thinks it's small, but I do.  Anyway, I researched it a bit and got a WD 1Tb as a replacement, but in the process, I came across some conflicting info on the Western Digital site re moving the contents of my current hd over to the new one - in one video they say, 'If you don't have your re-install disks for Windows, don't even try to clone your hd to the replacement.'  And then they tell you to use Acronis True Image (available from their site) to clone your hd contents to your new hd.  Well, which is it?

My Dell E6410 came to me sans any re-install disks, and as far as I know, they are not available to me.  So I'm hoping I can move my Win 7 over to the new drive w/o any re-install disks - Anyone know if and how I do that?

TIA for your assistance.

Dell Inspiron 17 3721 problems

Same here.

Received yesterday my brand new dell Inspiron 3721 with i5 CPU.

Looks and works great. Except for the CPU fan which seems to run continuously at full speed with a lot of noise as result even when I'm not using the laptop.

I will try using speedfan to solve the issue, although I hope DELL will come up with the proper solution.

Dell Studio 1557 - loud fan after Windows 8.1 upgrade

I recently installed Windows 8.1 on my Dell Studio 1557 laptop, and since then have noticed that the fan is running nearly all the time.  It's an Intel i7, 8GB RAM, 240GB SSD (less than half full).  With fans at full blast, task manager shows relatively low CPU & RAM use, so I'm at a loss as to why this is happening.  I take great care to avoid dust from accumulating inside the fan enclosure.  The problem is unaffected by changing CPU cooling mode to passive or by disabling most of my startup programs.

From what I understand, others (with different laptops) have had similar issues after installing Windows 8.1, some of which resolved following a BIOS update.  However, the latest BIOS (from 2010-11) is already installed.  I downgraded temporarily to Windows 7 and the fans were silent, but I've gone back to Windows 8.1 and am really hoping to solve this annoying issue.  Any ideas?

e7240 CONSTANT LOUD NOISE FROM FAN / VENTILATOR TURNING ALL THE TIME

$

We received 2 brand new E7240s directly from Dell, one for myself and one for my colleague. As soon as I turned it on to build it for my colleague, I noticed the machine was overheating and the fan was making a noise. Dell suggested a BIOS upgrade which didn't change anything. They then changed the heatsink, again this changed nothing and since then they changed the motherboard. My colleague has gone on holiday so I don't know if her issue has been resolved, however, my laptop from day one does not overheat (as obviously as it did for my colleague) BUT THE FAN TURNS ALL THE TIME. So much so that I think the person in the upstairs bedroom is using her hairdryer. Dell replaced the heatsink and the motherboard yesterday, I have done the same BIOS upgrade and the problem is even worse. As soon as I switch the thing on, the ventilator turns all the time making a loud noise. My previous model was the E6500 and I wasn't bothered by any noises it made.

The 7240 makes so much noise that I want to throw it out of the window Super Angry , seriously I am going to switch back to my 5 year old e6500 which is now very slow, I just can't take the constant hair dryer noise from the fan! I am waiting for Dell to get back to me but I don't see what else they can do.

I suspect there is a design problem with newer models, someone with a Latitude 13 Notebook has also mentioned it on the forums, also someone else with an e7240 states "I have noticed the fan running much of the time - it's quiet but you're aware it's spinning.  I am just setting it up though, so the CPU is fairly busy." A person with the e6320 states "And the fan is loud and turns itself on way too often".

Dell Inspiron 15M motherboard is dead after 3 weeks, bought brand new

Called Dell Customer Support, was passed on to Hardware Support, did some troubleshooting since laptop does not come up.

Then got disconnected.

Called again, again same dumm questions, ended with Hardware Support who said I should go to Bestbuy where laptop was purchased and ask them to fix it because Dell does not cover it...

Huh?

This was bought in Best Buy store 3 weeks ago, brand new...

What do you mean Dell does not cover it?

This is last time I buy Dell, warranty is bad, Customer Service is worse, quality is worst

Dell Backup and Recovery Software... What they didn't tell us.

Just had my XPS 15 touch for 2 weeks now. Mine comes with 32GB mSATA and 1TB HD. Dell posted in youtube on Creating Recovery Media... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6f17jCKpxcE So I bought a new 250GB mSATA to replace all the existing hard drives in my laptop. I followed all the steps in the video and replaced the old mSATA and install a new one. To my supprised when I try to recover using a flash drive. The software requires the new drive should be the same size as the old one. What the... when did they say that in the video? Can a XPS customer request a recovery media like they provided for the Precision M3800?
