New to Dell. Having a problem searching for a part

Hi there. Bought a used Latitude e5420 and everything is fine except the DVD burner. Thought I may as well make use of a spare HDD I have but am being frustrated in my search for a HDD caddy that will work in this model.

I've tried every variation of the term I can think of and get 0 results here on Dell. Would appreciate any help you could offer.

TIA

Two issues

Hi hopefully somebody can help,

My two issues are certain web pages won't open, they did a few weeks ago now I just get a blank page. (tried both firefox and explorer)

Second the computer seems to run even slower than my old laptop especially loading pages and watching programs online.

My Inspiron 15R is less than two months old, it runs on windows 7 and I have the McAfee running that came with it.  I have special programs installed that I am aware of.

thank you

Touchpad in Inspiron 17R 5721 stopped working

My touchpad has been behaving erratically for a few days. Yesterday it stopped working altogether. It does not work in either normal or safe mode. My OS is Windows 8. The touchpad has not been disabled via the F3 key. I have not added/installed any new programs recently & the only thing I have attached is the power cord. Right now I am using an optical mouse (which is working OK).

I ran the "checkup" in My Dell & it says there are no problem. Similarly device manager shows no issues. The current touchpad driver is Synaptics 16.2.12.17. I noticed there is a new driver & so I downloaded it to my desktop. I am not sure how to proceed with updating the driver. I noticed there is a choice is device manager that says "update driver." Do I just click on that, or do I need to delete the touchpad from device manager & run the new driver from my desktop?

Please let me know how to proceed, or advise if there are other troubleshooting steps I have missed. BTW I also found up that I am unable to update My Dell. It just tells me there is a problem with the update & it can't proceed. Is that because my system went out of warranty the end of Feb?

All help would be greatly appreciated.

Dell XPS 13 - Pluggin my usb 3.0 WD passport hard drive causes wifi connection to drop

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a Dell XPS 13 (9333) and... well, so far I'm not really impressed with it, as it's definitely giving me more trouble than one should expect, given the price.

I tried to search on the web and on this forum for a similar issue, but to no avail. There are other users with usb 3.0 issues, but mine is slightly different. And it goes like this:

everytime I plug my WD passport external hard drive (usb 3.0), the wifi connection just drops. It happens 10 times out of 10 on both usb ports and it's driving me nuts, as I pretty much always had the hard drive connected on my old netbook. It goes without saying that as soon as I unplug the hard drive, connection is restored.

Any ideas on how to solve this?

PS: I have all the latest drivers and windows 8.1 updates installed.

Inspiron 15 3521 Has very annoying keys and space bar.

I have had it for a couple weeks now and it is very touch and go with the key responses, especially the space bar. I am a fairly quick typer but I still need to stare at the keyboard. when I look up, random words are stuck together becauseof the problem. See what I mean? I have some prettyheavy keystrokes but still have problems with missing letters and finding the sweet spot of the space bar. I have enrolled in online university and have tons of papers to write. I cannot handle it. What can be done? It doesn't feel like a sensitivity issue because I will press the space bar at one point and it wont work, move over a 1/2" and it works.

Inspiron 14Z 5423 Failed BIOS Flash

I had a problem where the laptop stopped closing down properly.

The operating system would shutdown, but the Power LED, Network LED, and fan would continue until I held the power switch down for a few seconds.

I noticed that there was a new BIOS A08 (currently A06 on this laptop) that solved S4/S5 issues (I thought this may have something to do with it).

However, when I started the BIOS update, the machine went into the state mentioned above during the update, and I had to power it off manually.

This action seems to have caused an issue as the laptop will no longer boot.

Now, when I press the power button,

  • The Power light comes on
  • The three buttons on the right light up in the following sequence: 1, 2, 3, 2, 1, 1+2, 1+2+3, all off.
  • The cd seeks to zero (I guess thats what it is doing).
  • The fan comes on.

Then all switches off except the power LED, and the laptop emits a sequence of three beeps, pause, three beeps. This goes on...

I can only assume I have messed up the BIOS update and need to fix this.

From several searches, the suggestion is that I can create an emergency BIOS update disc/USB stick. However, I have not been able to get information on how to create this recovery disk. All I have at the moment is the windows bios update file, 5423A08.exe.

Can anyone help before I have to call DELL support ?

Dell 7537 laptop WiFi problems - TERRIBLE Dell Customer service so far

$

My fairly new 7537 laptop is clearly having problems connecting to many WiFi networks.  On most networks, it can barely get a connection.  Some have suggested (in Dell forums) that this card only works with a 5GHz signal, and I am hoping to get some clear guidance from Dell, but so far, all I am getting is severe incompetence in their tech support team.

I've been put on hold for long times and then my call has been dropped.

The "best" rep I have spoken to indicates that ALL he can do is to reinstall the driver and run a hardware diagnostic check.  Upon asking to speak with his supervisor (who I hoped might be more technical), I was again asked to wait for 5 to 10 minutes, and then the call just dropped.

Does Dell have an advanced tech support team that I can contact to get resolution of this very frustrating issue?

Dell Inspiron 1720 32 bit with Vista - upgrading to Win7

Hi there,

I have currently Vista 32 bit on my Dell Inspiron 11720. I am about to upgrade ( using clean install ) to Windows 7 Ultimate. If I do the clean install, it will ofcourse erase off the installed Dell Inspiron 1720 Vista drivers and also the services. I have the Drivers DVD ( from Vista) which I have got it at the time of purchase. Would that be enough to use this CD to install the drivers to be able to work on the installed Win 7 or do I have to download the Win 7 drivers for Inspiron 1720 from Dell website? If so, are there any instructions how I could install the drivers .

Thanks in advance

Windows 8.1 driver for Broadcom USH BCM5880

When I installed Windows 8.1 (from the MSDN developer site) on My Latitude E6510 it has an unknown device called Broadcom USH. A Windows 7 driver would probably work, but I don't know what that device does, so I don't know which driver to try and install. I think it's for the BCM5880 chip. What does that do?

Windows XP Recovery

Before I recently received my inspiron 8600, someone installed windows 7 over xp.  duh.  It obviously was not registered. duh.  Since the programs I need required xp, I have been trying to get it back to xp,.  I would like to ask the dummy that changed windows in the first place, but I don't even know their name or where they live. HELP PLEASE!  I also do not have the disc it supposedly came with, however, I do have a cd which I purchased from someone which says: Reinstallation CD, Microsoft Windows XP Professional, Including Service Pack 1a.  It appears that drive c has very little space available on it and D has more space available. All I basically know how to do is to install a disc into the drive, however, I feel with some basic 1,2,3 instructions from some kind person, (considering I have the correct CD to use) I might be able to make the computer usable again.  Many, many thanks for your help.

Inspiron 1545 network controller driver WILL NOT INSTALL

Someone did a reformat for me to try to fix an issue after installing me a new hard drive and installing windows.  They said they were having problems getting the drivers for my network controller and I have had nothing but troubles also. I have downloaded the driver but cannot find it afterward to install it. I downloaded the dell download manager and can't find it either and nothing seems to work to fix it. The instructions to use the download mgr don't help because nothing happens the way it is supposed to and nothing is where it is supposed to be and I am at a loss.  I am ready to throw this thing in the dump. If ANYONE has ANY suggestions I would love to hear them.

My Dell laptop could not start but keep beeping with screen black

Recently, I have faced a problem with my Dell Inspiron 5520 (Windown 8). After I press the power button, the windows cannot start and the screen keeps black. The three buttons on the top, right corner of keyboard (i.e., Dell Instant Launch button, Dell Audio with Preset Switch button, and Windows Mobility Center button) flash from left to right and then from right to left, then stop flash and my computer starts to beep and keeps beeping for long time. I have to disconnect the power cable and reconnect to try several times to start my computer. Sometimes I do start windows after trying several times. would you guys please tell me how to fix this problem? I got my laptop in the end of 2012. I do not use it too much and only less than 20 hours a week. Does anyone has the similar problem?

Realtek Memory Card Reader Driver

$

First of all...I am using a Dell Inspiron 15 3521 laptop. I have clean installed Windows 8 from the DVD Dell supplied after purchasing the laptop. Windows 8 installs but with several items in Device Manager as UNKNOWN DEVICES.

I have downloaded all current drivers and installed them in the correct order and restarted the machine after each driver installs.

After the machine sets for about a half hour, there is a message in Action Center that states "install the memory card reader driver" and pushes me to Realtek's website where I can download drivers. However, it states that the Card Reader is a different model number than the one Dell lists for my Service Tag. Dell says it is for Realtek Card 5179. Windows says that it is 5139/5129.  I have looked at the original configuration of this computer and cannot find that card reader anywhere. Can someone help me find the correct Card model number and the updated driver to make Windows stop that error in Action Center?

Thanks for your help

Wifi on Dell Latitude E5420

Hi,

Friends have given me their Dell laptop Latitude E5420, which has barely been used.

I am trying to get Wifi up and running on it but with little success. Others have tried, but they are not really very technical!

From basic research, it seems like i don't have any drivers for Wifi, and also a wireless card in whichever socket (I don't want a "dongle", so am happy to buy a card if needed).

However, I don't know how to check either of these as fact, and if there is anything else missing

- For the wireless card, I have looked in the Device Manager in control panel, but don't know what I'm actually checking for.
- For the Wifi driver, the Network Connections in control panel comes up with 3 options. Broadband connection (disconnected WAN Miniport (PPPOE), Broadband Connection 2 (Disconnected WAN Miniport (PPPOE) and Local Area Network (Network cable unplugged Broadcom NetExtreme Gigabit Ethernet).

Please can someone help? I'm pretty sure the laptop is missing something(s), but not sure what, and how to check what is missing.

Also, what do I need to actually buy, and what can I download from the net or from the Dell website?

Many thanks for your help

Victor.

Thanks a ton!

Multiple connection issues

Here's something a little different. My XPS L702 does not recognize multiple on-board items. It fails to connect to 3 of 4 USB ports, Ethernet port, on-board wifi port, and sound card. Any ideas on where I should be checking for trouble? The only working USB port is the one on the left. Both hard drives, and the DVD/CD drive are working fine.
