Dell N5110

I got a question. My laptop is still under warranty, but i lost my receipt :( but i still have my monthly payments in my bank history, Is there ANY way i can get a replacement for my broken one? :( I gave it for warranty 4 times already i think and it still comes back and in a week or so it starts acting bad again. Like overheating(sometimes i need to plug in a cooling pad so i don't hurt my hand). I think other issues are irrelevant due to overheating. I think everything was replaced in this thing except of screen :( and it still comes back and overheats! If there is any possible way i can get help here with replacing it even for a bit worse but more stable model i would be SO happy! I can't even play League of Legends because 15min ingame it starts to burst flames and fps drops to 10-15... I can't afford a new laptop and my warranty is ending soon and i just ended my payments for it...

Dell Vostro 1500 Boot Problem (no operating system)

Hi, I am repairing a Dell Vostro 1500 laptop for a client. The boot error message was "no operating system". After troubleshooting by removing the hard drive and testing in another laptop, I confirmed that the hard drive works, however, not in the Vostro. I tried everything to get the Vostro to recognize the hard drive (boot setup, etc). The Vostro also did not recognize the CD Rom even though the CD Rom drive and the hard drive shows up in the boot setup menu. I believe that there is something wrong with a hardware component that relates to the SATA components. Any ideas? Thanks, Walter

Today I connected my power adapter and I got an error saying "The power attached to your notebook is not recognized. Please insert a 180 watt Dell approved power adapter".
I have reciesved this error before, but previously just disconnecting and reconnecting did the job.
Can someone help me?

Dell Inspiron 7000 (7537) random restarts from Ubuntu USB

$

Sorry in advance for this lengthy post but I am trying to include as much information as possible so that it might help others.

Some background:

I purchased this Dell 7537 laptop recently with the intention of installing Ubuntu 13.10 64 bit in a dual boot mode with Windows 8. I know there's a few hoops to jump through in order to succeed, but I've used Ubuntu for several years now and know what to expect.

This is not what this post is about though. It's to compare notes with anyone who may have encountered a particular problem with this laptop in trying to do the same.

I've already taken steps to return my laptop as it's less than 2 weeks old but would happily change it to a replacement if it can be shown that it's only my laptop that has the problem/fault.

If nothing else, it may be useful to others that follow as I've been unable to find anything about this just by Googling.

The Problem:

I intended to just use the Ubuntu startup USB disk for a week or two to satisfy myself that it all worked as expected before committing to an install. It's when I shut the Ubuntu system down that the laptop would randomly restart again within 5 seconds.

This was not a rare occasion but at it's worst, it would do it every second shutdown. I've done a lot of testing to try to solve the problem and will outline that shortly, but I will add that random restarts also occurred with the installed Windows 8, albeit infrequently. I tried all the fixes I found for preventing Windows from doing that, like turning off WOL and restarts due to system problems at shutdown, but still it did it.

What I have done is a LOT of booting and shutdowns of Ubuntu trying to find the problem and have come to the conclusion that it is some kind of electrical interference, particularly on the USB ports at the left. I do have an electronics background so am fairly confident in saying this. It could be that my motherboard has missed out on some vital filtering components during assembly, or it could be a common problem and therefore a shortcoming in design. Either way, it may not be something that would be noticed under normal circumstances but I have no way to tell.

I will also add that this problem only occurs with the AC adapter plugged in and turned on (we use 240V in this country). It does not occur when on battery power alone, or with the adapter in but turned off.

These are the results I obtained:

The worst affected USB port is the one closest to the AC adapter input on the left hand side.

When booting from there with my power adapter on it would restart once every two shutdowns, on average. The port on the right hand side that I tried had zero restarts out of twenty shutdowns and didn't seem to be affected at all!

When I realised this I immediately suspected the power adapter as being “electrically noisy”, but this is only half the story.

I tried another Dell adapter which was exactly the same as mine but a year older. It still caused random restarts but less than half the number of mine.

I tried an even older HP adapter with similar “less than half” results .

So, while the substitute adapters seem electrically quieter than my adapter, I still got random restarts on the left hand side USB ports.

Incidentally, if anyone gets infrequent random restarts with Windows 8 after trying all the “usual” fixes, it could be a “noisy” adapter causing it. I suspect my Win8 wouldn't restart at all if I changed the adapter for a less noisy one. But that's not solving the whole issue for me.

I also tried using a different USB flash drive as a Ubuntu startup disk but got much the same results as before.

Conclusion:

If someone else is able to try this experiment of booting and shutting down a Ubuntu USB startup disk a number of times from the USB port closest to the power adapter, with it plugged in and turned on, it may help others in the future.

I know that I could boot or install Ubuntu from the non-noisy port on the right hand side, but that's not the issue. It's the long term reliability of using the left hand side ports for anything at all. Could data integrity be compromised on occasions, for example? You might not know till it's too late.

Dell Vostro 3560 drivers after clean Windows install

$

Hi,

I recently bought a used Dell Vostro 3560 (with over a year of warranty still left) where the previous owner had formatted the hard drive and installed a clean Windows 7. I now realize that formatting the hard drive completely had been a huge mistake by the previous owner, as he seems to have also overwritten the backup partition which would have enabled a factory reset option, which sadly now is gone. Initially I tried to install drivers manually, but ran into much trouble with drivers for the dedicated AMD graphics card - when trying to install the driver package with the Catalyst software for managing the dedicated GPU, I get a blue screen of death relating to atikmpag.sys or atikmdag.sys. I have searched online and apparently it happens because the driver is too new for the BIOS driver and thus they are not compatible. Having had no luck finding a better BIOS driver and being overall rather upset about having no option to do a factory reset, I am now wondering what my options are.

The option I would like most would be to somehow restore the factory settings completely - I would not mind starting anew from a formatted hard drive, but I would need a disk image of the system as installed in the factory, and I doubt you can provide this for me? Alternatively, I could install a clean version of Windows and could use some kind of factory driver package, but I do not know where to get this either. I have already tried downloading the AMD GPU drivers from the Dell drivers&downloads site, which found the correct drivers for me using my service tag, and I have downloaded drivers from the AMD website, but neither work.

I read in one post that someone with a similar issue was able to send their hard drive back to Dell and in return got a hard drive with the factory settings installed. This option would work for me also, only I live in Estonia and I am not sure where the nearest Dell service shop is where I should turn.

What advice can you give me in my sorry situation?

New Inspiron 15 z got turned off during a system restore.

I accidentally turned off my Inspiron 15z during a system restore.  When I go to reboot, I receive a  "Recovery" blue screen that says, your PC needs repaired. then gives me the following two error messages....File:\windows\system32\winload.efi and Error Code: 0xc000000f.

Well i cant get past this "Recovery" screen.  I Can get into F12 Boot options and F2 Bios but F8 Startup  Settings only takes me to the "Recovery" screen.  I had not yet created any back up for the OS.  Is there any way to recover the OS if that's whats needed.  I'm at a loss.

Someone told my that my drive is done and needs to be replaced but i was able to do a full diagnostic and everything is fine according to the results.  Thank you

I've had my Inspiron 17 for 4 months and noticed today that the touchscreen isn't working.

No idea how long ago the problem started as I generally use the old desktop/touchpad combination

When checking PC settings it now says 'no pen or touch input is available for this display.'

Any ideas

Thanks?

Hi all,

Hi!

My laptop, Dell Inspiron M5030, was working well until I had leave it for a bit to attend to something. In the meantime it went into the sleep mode. When I tried to revive it, it wouldn't boot and instead beeped 7 times continuously with a black screen!

What seems to be the problem here? How can I fix it/get it fixed??

Hi all,

I just got my new XPS 15, amazing laptop but there's 1 big problem,

A high-pitched scratching/screeching noise is produced from the power button area ONLY when the power is plugged in and the battery is fully charged.

I've seen other forums and others have exactly the same problem, Any ideas?

I found this example http://z.mk/e6vq , the power is plugged into the laptop at 6 seconds.

Thanks

Dell Inspiron 17 3737 Doesn't sleep longer than 15 min

I have a Dell Inspiron 17 3737 w/ Windows 8. Great machine except for two things:

(1) When on battery power, if I shut the lid the laptop will only sleep for about 15 minutes before completely shutting down. If I leave it plugged in it will sleep forever. I have "Change what closing the lid does" all four settings set to Sleep, and "Change when the computer sleeps" for battery power set to display off 5 min and sleep 30 min.

(2) Additionally, if the laptop shuts down in this lid-closed-on-battery state, I cannot power the laptop back up if the power cable is plugged in. I have to hit the power button BEFORE I plug the laptop in, or it ignores the power button -- even if I hold down on it for 15 seconds.

Bizarre.

Anyone else encounter this?

Upgrading to a new SSD/ HDD..

Hello everyone,

I use a Dell Inspiron 15 7537.

This model has a 1 Tb SSHD (solid state hybrid drive)

As all of you know that nowadays Dell does not provide any recovery media in a DVD format..as they had already created a recovery partition and you have to create a recovery media from that using 3 to 4 dvds or a pendrive.

the question here many user have is .."if i changed my hdd or i upgraded to ssd, will i be able to create the same recovery partion as dell provided me in my original previous hdd and will i be able to recover my os from it when it gets corrupt  ?"

The answer is "YES"

BUT BUT BUT

You have to do it manually and everything from scratch.. let me explain you the steps for that.

first download all the drivers of your operating system from dell support.

say i changed my hdd with a new 500gb ssd(solid state drive).

Now i need to do is use the operating system dvd (in this case take windows 8 or windows 8.1) for a fresh install.

re partition the whole drive..also make a rapid start partition while partitioning the drive..

i am posting a link for procedure of rapid start technology partion. here.

If in any case this link doesnt works in any case then just google "intel rapid start technology" and on google you will find a pdf document for that.

After partitioning the system. install the operating system.but make sure you are not connected to the internet..turn off internet on your system..

install drivers for windows downloaded from dell support for your product.

install them.

now you can turn the internet on.

install basic softwares which are used daily like flash player, microsoft office, music players, adobe reder and which you use daily..

now clean or tune your system as you want.

here are the important steps..

go to dell.com and download my dell software.

install my dell on you laptop.

open my dell

you will find backup option in my dell..just click on it..and it will show you local backup option..click on it and download dell backup and recovery.exe, and then install it..while installing it will ask you to restart or reboot the computer..do it.

after restarting just go to desktop and wait for dew moments..dont do anything..a installation window will appear stating creating recovery environment. let it complete because it is created the image of your system you just installed..after completing..you have successfully cerated a rescue partition like dell.

and you can recover from this partition.

for any questions or queries..you know what to do..

pardon me if i went wrong anywhere.and hopefully you will find this info usefull.

Thanks

SHRIYASH.

Hello, I read on a forum that somebody had put a large capacity mSata SSD in the WWAN slot of the e6450 as a way of expanding its fixed storage and got the full 6 gb/second of mSata? Will this actually work? If so, where is it documented?

Inspiron 1525 replacement HD not seen by BIOS. Ubuntu OS.

The hard drive on my Inspiron 1525 recently failed, still seen by the BIOS diagnostic tests returned Error code 2000-0146.   Attempts to repartition and format the drive failed.

Unable to get a replacement from Dell, on their recommendation, I obtained one from another source and fitted it in accordance the instruction manual.   The BIOS did not recognise it and the diagnostics returned Error code 2000-0141.

I have reset the BIOS to factory default.  On the new HD:

mount returns can't find /dev/sda in /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab

fdisk returns Fatal Error Bad primary partition 1 ends in the final partial cylinder.

The computer runs faultlessly from a Linux usb stick.

I would welcome any suggestions to resolve this fault.  Thank you.

Studio 1749 & Windows 8 touch screen not working

Hi all,

I have a Dell Studio 1749 with a touch screen and I have upgraded Windows 7 to a legacy Windows 8.

Unfortunately my touch screen isn't working anymore and is not recognized by windows at all.

Win 8 has installed a generic driver for my touch screen.

Do you know where I can find this driver ? I looked into dell support site and wasn't able to find anything about this.

Thanks for your kind answers.
