The AC power adapter type cannot be determined: Inspiron N5110

I have a Dell Inspiron N5110. Recently my laptop has been given me errors about plugging in the right adapter when it is the same adapter that I've been using since I bought the laptop in August 2011 and it is the exact same adapter that came along with the laptop.

I also bought a new original Dell Inspiron N5110 Charger but the problem persists.

The configuration of the Charger that came along with my laptop and the one I bought new are the same and are as follows:

Dell P/N: MK947

Ref. ADP -90LD B

Model: DA90PM111

Input: 100-240V ~ 1.5 A          50-60Hz

Output: 19.5V -- 4.62A

The error that currently occurs whenever I plug in the charger is:

The AC power adapter type cannot be determined.

Your system will operate slower and battery will not charge. This problem might be solved by:

- Ensure the plug is inserted completely for best system operation

- Connect a Dell 90W adapter or higher.

The charger is properly plugged in. Sometimes I twist and turn the plug that goes into the laptop and it starts charging but most of the times it doesnt do that and gives me the problem.

I checked Dell Battery Meter, to check Battery's health, and it states the battery is running normal.

So there's no problem with the battery.

I used a different charger of more power (Dell laptop charger only but of different model) and it charged my laptop just fine. Can anyone tell me what the problem is? And why is my laptopn giving me this particular error with the adapter that is supposed to be used with this model and has always worked normally until now?

Will appreciate the help!!

Display problem in Inspiron N5010

I have Dell Inspiron N5010 with:
Intel Core i5-460M 2.53GHz
500GB HDD
4GB RAM
Windows 7 Home Basic
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 (512 MB)

I am facing trouble with its display. It does not starts during boot. I have to press power key 15-20 repeatedly to turn it on.Then the screen pixels appears totally damaged and wierd patterns appears. The boot menu comes and if I choose Start Windows normally, it may/may work further. Even if it will get ON for a few minutes, it will get off soon. Many times, error message comes that "Display Driver stopped working and has successfully recovered". I have to use it in Safe mode with networking. In safe mode, it works OK normally 90% of the times. I have reinstalled windows (with all the drivers and updated it), updated ATI driver, tried to disable Graphics card using BIOS (but there was no such option, hence could not), did diagnosis with F12 at booting which gives OK test results for everything including LCD and system Board sometimes and "Failed" other times.
Also, in safe mode, I sometimes hear 8 beeps but in very low volume. What should be the exact problem with my system. I consulted a technician who said that fault is with your Graphics Card but since it is not replaceable we have to replace the entire motherboard. But, I want to ask that why it works perfectly(when it turns on)? If some part is damaged, it must be damaged totally. How can it be "biased"?

The Windows error as shown when it finally turns ON is:

Touchpad gestures/scrolling/pointer not working after windows 8.1 update on Dell Inspiron 11 3137

Just got a brand new laptop, Dell Inspiron 11 3137, and updated to windows 8.1. The touchpad does not work properly now; gestures/scrolling/pointer not working. I've spent over 16 hours getting windows 8.1 installed and then troubleshooting this issue. I've contacted Dell; updated the driver from Dell, even tried installing the latest driver from Synaptic. I even tried setting the Synaptic app to run under the windows 8 version.

Touchpads have been around a long time. It's the last thing I expect not to work properly.

At this point I am ready to send the laptop back and call it quits on windows.

Can anybody help with this?

wifi connection problems with Dell Latitude E6520 laptop

I've recently got Dell Latitude E6520 laptop and everything (including wifi) was working fine till today. Today first I was able to see wifi networks (and my wifi in particular), but when I tried to connect to any of them I got message "it wasn't possible to connect to wifi network". I tried multiple times. Restarted connection and restarted computer, but it didn't help. I've managed to connect using my older laptop with no problems at all (to the same wifi).   I've also tried different wifi networks (but same results)  I've also checked my BIOS settings to be correct on Wifi. I've also downloaded drivers (DELL,CRD,WRLES,HMCRD,DW1530,HF,A02,A02) from the website http://ftp.dell.com/Pages/Drivers/latitude-e6520.html#Network. I tried to disable and enable the devices from the Device Manager. I also tried to update the drivers as well. Please let me know what to do (note that I can't connect to wifi at the moment with my laptop and need to use a wired connection to get on the Internet).   Attached are the photos. If any more info is required please let me know.

Additional information: Wireless troubleshooter displays information: "an administrator profile failed to obtain an IP address from the DHCP server".  Sometimes there is info that wifi profile got deleted by the administrator policy.

Backlit Keyboard

Hey, I've just received my new XPS Dell 16 (Tag: <ADMIN NOTE: Email id removed per privacy policy>) and again I'm having issues with the keyboard lighting up. I have the selection to adjust the Keyboard Backlight whenever I go to the Windows Mobility Center on the touch pad. Are there any BIOS or something I can download to correct my issue?(I'm not very smart with computers, I'm just a kid). Also, I removed the little screen protector on the keyboard, I hope that had nothing to do with the lighting system..

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

For the past couple years I've been battling this laggy, slow and poor performance on my Dell Laptop. Opening any web-browser takes a couple seconds just for the window to pop-up.

I also get lag during YouTube videos, sound stutter, and massive lag problems on my DAW. I've re-installed Windows numerous times and have disabled "speed Step". The CPU is always below 40%. I have no idea what is causing this or what to do.

Please help.

Hello,

I'm looking for a solution for fingerprint reader on Vostro 5470, Windows 7 64-bit.

Is there anyway to make windows detect the fingerprint reader?
I've reinstalled the driver from dell downloads. Biometric is there on control panel, but it cannot detect the device.

I tried the validity FMA software, but it won't detect the fingerprint reader as well.

Thanks.

Dell Studio 1737 backup cd download file

Hi there

Need help desperately. Have moved house andn misplaced my back up cd's that came with my Dell Studio 1737. It came originally with Windows Vista installed then
Dell sent me a Windows 7 upgrade cd.

My laptop has crashed as soon as I moved (*&@#$) and will not boot up. Think I'm going to need to reinstall from scratch as I can't seem to access recovery partition.

Where I can I download a copy of the original cds from please? I've looked on dell support, entered my service tags no's etc but can't seem to locate it. Really do not want to have to reinstall every driver manually if at all possible and the only other windows I have is an old xp copy.

Can't use dell backup and restore as I had not created a backup on the laptop in the first place. if I can just get it to load, I will copy my files off the drives and do a brand new install. But I need the disks for that. *sigh*

Can anyone help me please??? I have been trying to fix this for weeks now :-(

Clean Win7 install and under running Win7, closing lid doesn't put it in sleep mode and pressing power button doesn't shutdown OS.

Yes, I did setup Control Panel\System and Security\Power Options as required!

When under other OS or laptop turned off(pressing power button, turns it on),  those do work!

Inspiron 17R - N7110 - RTC, Random Shutdowns, etc.

$

Hello all, I will preface this post by saying I usually don't turn to forums for advice, as I usually never have anything to repair that is this irritating. This one is strange enough that I created an account and figured I'd ask around to see if any of you have had similar issues.

That being said, there's no need for layman's terms or anything else like that in responses, I am a certified technician.

Now that that's out of the way, on to the fun part.

The machine in question is an Inspiron 17R (N7110), Core i5, 8GB, Intel graphics.

I had purchased it from a friend who desperately needed cash, and upon receiving it, I conducted hardware tests, and wiped it clean. Everything was in order, it ran like a million bucks. So I went to resell it to get my money back out of it.

Sold it to a guy, and the day he came to pick it up, the machine booted up with an RTC error. Needless to say, I took the first reasonable approach, and replaced the CR2032 under the palmrest.

It then booted up just fine, and I shut it down, pulled the battery and power supply, and then hooked them back up and booted again, just to make sure. All was well, it booted up just fine again.

He took it home, used it for a while, and just brought it back now, two weeks later, throwing clock errors at boot again, along with 5 beeps. Since it was so soon after sale, I said I'd help him with it.

Diagnostics went as follows-------------------------------------------------------

Took the device apart, replaced the battery again, in case the first replacement battery was a dud.

- No different. Machine instantly boots to 5 beeps and a clock error (00C08270).

- Discovered that it only throws the error (and wipes the clock back to 2010) when the power supply is pulled and subsequently plugged back in. (even when the main battery remains connected)

Looked at the Dell Diagnostic tool, which informed me that even though the power supply was connected, the machine didn't register it being plugged in.

Tried a different power supply of the same rating, diagnostics now register the power supply as being connected.

Diagnostics continue to run through, but nearing the end, the computer randomly shuts down, as if it were overheating. (Lovely, another problem)

I ask the owner if he's had trouble with it shutting down randomly, and he says yes.

Noticing that the CPU temp (as shown in the diagnostic utility) is consistently around 60C, I investigate cooling problems. Absolutely no dust in the heatsink.

Since the laptop is very easy to disassemble, I go ahead and pull the CPU cooler, and wipe clean the processor and cooler, and properly re-apply thermal paste.

Get it all back together, and it behaves no differently, though it's running about 5 degrees cooler, at 55C.

At this point, it's shutting down ~60 seconds after boot. After the clock error, a reboot will allow it to properly boot into Windows, but it only lasts a minute.

BIOS is reporting that it's version A13, (newest), CPU cooler is completely clean, thermal paste was applied possibly better than I've ever done before, RTC battery is new.

Pulled all CRUs, but one memory stick, still exhibits the same behaviour. Switched to the other memory stick, same thing.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've figured out some really strange issues in my time doing this job, but never seen anything like this that has no real explanation.

I hope that someone here has some insight as to what might be a possible solution.

I'm fearing motherboard failure of some degree, however now I'm in a dilemma as to what to tell the guy. He purchased it used, and I knew nothing about its history. He used it for weeks just fine, and when it malfunctioned, before he brought it to me, he had another shop check it out, and tell him it was the clock battery. So another tech has had his fingers in it, and who knows what happened with it since this guy bought it. What course of action should I take, if it does turn out to be a mobo? Help the guy out of my own pocket for something I had no knowledge of? Or tell him to screw off because he already had someone else digging through it?

Thanks in advance guys, I appreciate your reading of this post.

I've had my new Inspiron (15R5337 I7 Win 8.1 Pro) only a few weeks. I turned Hibernate on. If I open a program or document and then hibernate, when the computer is restarted later the files/documents are not open. It is as if a cold boot was done. Advice appreciated...

I have an Inspiron 15 7537 wirh a 1tb hybrid drive.

I partitioned the HD into 150GB for operating system and 764GB for data, pictures etc.

After I partitioned the HD, I get a message that my Rapid Start Technology is not enabled. It shows that it is enabled in the bios.

Any ideas why I get the "not enabled" message?

Thanks

I changed my HDD to a Samsung 840 EVO SSD. I installed the Windows 8.1 and all necessary drivers but when my PC boot I got the following error message:

An unexpected I/O error has occured. Error code: 0xc00000e9

This problem can happen when a removable storage device is removed while it's in use or failing. Properly connecting any removable storage and restarting your PC may fix this problem.

O2Micro Memory Card Reader on Latitude with Windows 8.1

$

I have a Latitude E5520 and a Lattitude E5530, both have the O2Micro SD Memory Card Reader.  The reader worked fine in Windows 8, but after installing the 8.1 update, the SD card reader does not work at all when inserting a memory card.  There is no audible sound, no disk drive available in Windows Explorer, and in Device Manager, the O2 is not listed in "Storage Controllers" where it should be.

There are two versions of the driver that I've found online on the Dell site, but neither one solves the issue.

I found this workaround, but it's not a very good one:

  • In Windows 8.1, press Start button and type fix devices, and click Find and fix problems with devices in the results list.
  • Click Next and allow it to check for problems.  It will come back with the option to enable the device Intel 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family PCI Express Root Port 6 - 1C1A or something similar
  • Click Apply this fix
  • When done, close the troubleshooter and open Windows Explorer, and you should see the card reader
  • In Device Manager, you should see O2Micro Integrated MMC/SD controller and O2Micro Integrated MS/MSPRO controller

Now, here's the bad news - after you reboot, or even go into sleep and come back out, the card reader is gone, and you have to do these steps over again.

If anyone has a permanent fix, I would love to know what it is!

-Dave
