Inspiron N5050 - Won't turn on

I have a Dell Inspiron N5050 that will no longer turn on.  When the adapter is in, the light will not come on.  I have removed the AC, battery and held the power button for 20-30 secs and plugged the AC in and tried and no change.  What I did notice is that if I hold the power button while the AC is in for about 5 seconds, the CD drive starts flashing and the power light comes on for about 2-3 seconds and then shuts off again.  It will not do that with just the battery.  Anyone know what that indicates?  My guess is the MB isn't getting enough juice or something is wrong with the power.  I've also tried swapping the memory.

New XPS 13 (9333) Constant Noise

I have just recently received a new XPS 13 with the new haswell i7 processor, 8gb RAM, 256gb ssd, and windows 8.1.

I really like this laptop, but it makes a really bizarre noise. It happens constantly as soon as its powered on, like a high pitched whirring sound from somewhere beneath the keyboard. It also seems pretty inconsistent, like it flickers in frequency, and when you use programs (e.g scroll through webpages) it gets louder.

Can anyone help me with what the issue is here? Any help appreciated.

One, thank you for jamming windows 8 into a non touch screen puter.

Foolish to drive a long time dell buyer away from you, I will never again buy a dell, if I can not get this back to win 7 I will gut it for parts and toss it into the trash... it belongs there NOW.

Two, thanks for making signing up for this as miserable as possible.

Must be 10 characters long including a upper and lower case letter and F in symbol.

I choose my password. NOT YOU  I now have a password I will NEVER REMEMBER.

What..! I should worry that someone might get into my account, what I keep gold here?!

The *** NSA is all over the place, there are no more secrets!

GD!

I truly will steer people away from dell in the future, you all must be smokin what your dell guy was, cuz you seem to be *** STONED.

$350 bucks for a puter so damn slow /problematic, and tech support that comes out of India...

I am writing this from circa 2007 HP that runs like a top.

Absolutely  disgusted!

Dell XPS 13 L322X Carbon Fiber Base Not Flat

I recently acquired a new XPS 13 L322X, and while it is certainly a beautiful machine, I've noticed that the front left corner does not make contact with the surface below it. As a result, the laptop rocks back and forth slightly between the front left and rear right corners as I use it. I thought it might have just been the table I had it on at the time, but after trying multiple tables (and an inspection grade surface plate), the problem persisted. I tried slipping a piece of paper underneath the chassis from all four corners and there was a definite gap at the front left while there was none at the other three corners. Anyone else notice this defect? I'm a quality engineer by trade, and frankly I'm surprised Dell would let something like this get out the door.

I've tried all the suggested remedies ie., take out battery, hold down power button, discharge static flea etc..

nothing works..there was initially a led power light on. Now even that is gone. Dead as a doornail. There is power in the adapter because the circular light round the cable is lighted.

Please help. This laptop is hardly 6 months old.

Thanks. Bert

I have a Dell Inspiron 1721 Mobo (PP22X) in front of me and I need a new motherboard (Mobo), now the numbers on my mobo are: AMD Motherboard: DA0FX5MB8D0 Rev. D         PWB: MY334 Rev.A00

So I looked around and found it in: The Dell Inspiron 1521 and both mobos match with numbers and components.

Now I ask any of you: Is this the right mobo replacement for the 1721??

This one is from Inspiron 1521 and looks exactly like mine, but something is missing?

This one is mine, Inspiron 1721.

Dell XPS L502X crashing while playing games with loud buzzing sound.

Recently my Dell XPS harddrive broke so I got it replaced with a new one, after about a month or so of it working fine during games it would start Freezing and making a loud buzzing noise forcing me to force shut it down via the power button.

I have no idea what could be causing although I believe it may only be happening on more graphic intensive games, for example playing "League of Legends" crashes it after a while whereas "Sid Meiers : Civilization IV/V" doesn't (or seemingly doesn't)

I really want to get this sorted out because I've done so much with this laptop to avoid having to replace it and now this is happening, any help is apprieciated.

Sorry for my poor video recording I had to use my phone to record it.

I have just bought a new dell e6430 laptop. It came with ubuntu but i removed that and installed windows 7 pro. (x64).

I have a few peoblems with the drivers, when i entered the service tag on the drivers donwload page i got a selection of drivers that I downloaded.

Now, among these is the dell camera firmware update and also the intel rapid store techology under chipset heading and the dell contrilvaul biometric framework driver. These simply won't install.

The intel rapid store says that the system does not meet requirements.

The other two simply open the folder with files after extraction and nothing happens......

what to do?

Also i get three items related to the intel rapid stroe and can't figure out the difference between them. Can anyone help?

Laptop rebooting before BIOS

I finally got my laptop working again sometime last week, having been at war with the company I bought it from who simply refused to repair their own problems, and Royal Mail refusing to own up to causing physical damage. Since then, I’ve mostly spent the time I’ve had it playing games, since I now have a laptop with a graphics card that can actually run the most basic of games, other activities including basic web browsing and music via Spotify.

Earlier I left it in my room for about 5 minutes playing music while cleaning my hamster cages, and I came back to it looking like this (photo courtesy of my snapchat)

So I reset, and since then when trying to boot, it will spin up for a second, (lights come on, fan / HDD come to life for a second or two) then it restarts the process. I’ve taken it completely to pieces, and tried using the original SSD which contained the OS (I upgraded this when I got the laptop back last week) and that made no difference. Tried moving the RAM between slots, removing BIOS battery, etc. I have simply no idea what the problem is here, and I’m just hoping for some guidance to what’s going on :c ask any question you need if I haven’t given enough detail! Thanks in advance, Gaz.

Laptop:

Dell Inspiron 14z Ultrabook

Processor: Intel Core i7 3517U

RAM: 2*4GB

SSD: Crucial 120GB mSata SSD (Boot drive, holds OS, not original)

Graphics: AMD Radeon HD7570M

No HDD works on D430 Notebook

$

A year ago I suddenly lost the use of the original 80GB hard drive on my Dell D430 notebook, my "Dinky Dell," which had become my favorite laptop for quick jobs such as looking up listings in my DVD catalog before watching a movie. I bought a SSD drive, but it didn't work, so I returned it and got a refund. Then I bought a 120GB HDD, but the 430 refused to recognize that, too. The latest drive I've gotten for it matches the factory original, a Toshiba 80. It was guaranteed to be functional. But my 430 has rejected it, too.

Now I'm convinced that there's some other component inside the 430 that has failed and is preventing the circuit from recognizing any HDD, no matter what it is. I'm sure the original Toshiba 80 is still good. But this mystery component, perhaps the BIOS chip, or some capacitor or resister somewhere along the line between the HDD and the CPU has gone to pot, leaving my 430 unable to recognize a HDD.

My worry is that this unknown component, this occult mystery device, cannot be located, even by one of the 430's original designers, and replacing it will be tantamount to capturing a will-o'-the-wisp on a dark night in ancient Scotland.

Dell Inspiron Motherboard Upgrade Question

$

Hello guys,

I bought this Dell Inspiron 17R N7110 with i5-2450 Intel CPU and 8GB of RAM. I'm looking to upgrade the motherboard. The main reason is because of the graphics card. My Inspiron is the model with the 0YH79Y motherboard in it, which has the cruddy Intel HD Graphics 3000 integrated graphics card.

The first thing I thought to do was look at the motherboard 9NWTG, which was also manufactured for the Inspiron 17R, except it has the better NVIDIA 2GB discrete card in it. I've been looking around and I found a few worth buying, but while I'm at it Hmm, I just want to ask, what other motherboards can go in this thing? Is the 9NWTG my only upgrade option? I'm not too concerned about the price, so could I buy like an ASUS motherboard with a serious video card and slam it in here Cool or am I limited to dell motherboards? Will almost any motherboard work? Or only mine and the 9NWTG? Huh?

Any answers will be appreciated! Yes

Dell XPS 15 9530 Firmware problem discovery and solution to the problem...

This post is in regards to the BIOS/UEFI update A03 that is released on Dells driver and update page.

I flashed this firmware update thinking it would be better, obviously the higher version number, however, you will notice that upon upgrading, you will notice that your touchscreen will no longer work. I spent almost 2 hours deducing what could have been the issue after I had updated some other drivers from Dell and Intel as well. I began combing through the logs in Windows 8.1 and noticed there were problems loading drivers for the NFC and the Touchscreen. So, I began uninstalling update by update until I decided to boot into my Linux OS to determine whether the problem was a driver issue with Windows, or a system wide problem.

Sure enough, I booted Linux, touched the screen and nothing...so I naturally went back to the Dell website to look for the A02 version of the BIOS/UEFI update to downgrade. Couldn't find it, so I searched on my best friend, google, and found a link for the old A02 (current version), and downloaded it. I then began the installation, it will tell you that Dell doesn't like to downgrade, but I ignored it since the upgrade process didn't clear the entire ROM just a portion, plus the EC. So, once I downgraded and reboot, touch screen works!

I hope that helps those who did the same thing as I did.

New Disk Drive

I purchased and installed a new SATA disk drive in my Inspiron 1750. When I try to install windows, it gets to the point of asking me where to install it. My new disk drive is not shown as an option. There is an install drivers button, but where and how do I get the drivers and how do I get the system to recognize them?

XPS 9530 touch screen stops responding (how to fix)

$

Hello, I figured I'd share a (not so obvious) solution to a stupid little problem I have been experiencing with my new Dell XPS 15 - 9530 touch screen laptop.

After a period of time, the screen would stop responding until a sleep, restart, or until I disabled and re-enabled the touch screen in device manager.

TURNS OUT - Dell is shipping these out with a kind of wonky setting...  Go your device manager (Google it if you don't know what it is)

THEN - goto "Human interface devices" and double click on the "USB input device" - if you have more than one, disconnect any external mice you may have attached.

FINALLY - goto the "Power Management" tab and uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"...

This has so far solved my issue...  and hopefully saves someone from a tech support call.

*******UPDATE - I had my system replaced and for some reason even with these modifications I was starting to have the screen problems again (after a long time perfect performance)...  SO - just to be safe, go back in to the device manager and turn off those same power management settings under "universal serial bus controllers"

The ones for mine (with all external devices disconnected) were Both "Generic USB Hub" and all 3 "USB Root Hub" devices (Including USB Root Hub xHCI)...  it ended up being all of them.

To reiterate, I disabled the power management on the internal USB hubs that power the mouse, keyboard and likely the touch input part of the screen.

SO FAR - I have had no further problems...  I had to sacrifice some battery life, but I no longer am poking my screen to death in anger.  lol

STMicroeletronics 3-Axis Digital Accelerometer

I have a flag in device manager for the Accelerometer that gives a code 10. Code 10 shows Status Device Power Failure.

Can someone tell me what this does and how to fix the problem?

This is on a Dell Inspiron 15 7537 that is 2 days old.

Thanks

Herman
