Dell Latitude D505

I need a way to reset a system config password in the BIOS. HDD is set as first boot and BIOS will not let me change to CD/DVD as first.

When loading an operating sys the BIOS only checks the HDD and will not move on to the CD/DVD.

Laptop Power / Shut Off Notice

I have a Latitude e6410. When my laptop is low on battery, I don't get a notice right before it shuts down and I can't figure out how to program it.

How can I adjust the power settings so that I get an advance warning? I hardly ever notice the blinking power icon on the top left of the keyboard, and even when it does go off, it's not enough time to get my power cord. Ideally, I'd get a notice from the power icon in the bottom right of the screen.

(As a side note, I don't think the battery is correctly showing the amount of time I have left without a battery. It is always less, but I'm not sure if there's a way to fix this.)

Thanks!

left clicker sunk in

I've recently (end of January) purchased my Inspiron 17R 5721 to only type essays for school. Getting to the point, I hardly ever use it and yesterday suddenly the left clicker sunk in. I don't understand how this happen when all I did was press it. (Due to this laptop being over $700 I am very gentle with it!) I do have a warranty, but unfortunately the representative stated its only for technical support and it will be $199.99 (rip off!) to sent it in to get repaired. I regret purchasing a laptop from Dell, they obviously don't stand by their parts or care about their customers frustrations. This will be last time I will purchase from them. I should have went with my instincts and went with APPLE.

Want an adapter between old and new 19v adapter power plug

I just bought an XPS 12 and have several older Dell power supplies for 19 volts.  they have a larger power plug than the XPS 12.  I hate to buy a bunch of new ones: one for the lab, one for the office, one for home, etc.  What I want is an adapter to go from the older large laptop plug to the new smaller one.

Thanks for any help

can't install a rom image file that is missing to up -date BIOS, gives me error message

Have a Dell Studio 1735 that came with Vista 32 bit. I reinstall Vista one time. Then I upgraded to win 7 Ultimate 32 bits and I found a missing file from bios. I had to upgrade my bios from A04 to A05. I tried the up-grade bios and gives me an error message that I can't upgrade bios because of a missing ROM (imaging file) is not found.

So I reinstall win 7 with another window 7 ultimate with 64 bits, not the same disk and installed a different processor from T5600 to a T8300. I found the missing file, but can't seem to install it. Does anybody have a solution. 4gb on the ram, 17 inch monitor dual core processor?

Inspiron 15R N5110 with Windows 8 x64. Problems with Explorer.exe

Hello, this is my last hope to find a solution before I format my laptop. I tried everything:

The problem:

When I boot and get into the file explorer, the CPU usage jumps up to 33% and stays there even if I close it. Even more, when I try to close it, it freezes. If I restart the explorer.exe, it happens the same.

My attempts to solve it:

Safe mode, same problem; clean boot (with nothing else loading at start), same problem;  updated BIOS, still the same problem.

It has all drivers up to date; updated antivirus (M$ native antivirus); process explorer program only shows the explorer.exe as the problem

I ran out of ideas, any other idea would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Dell XPS 15 Synaptics Windows 8 problem

Hi everyone,

I have a problem with  touchpad in my XPS15 L521x, device that I have upgraded to Windows 8. I have installed the last available driver for Synaptics touchpad (downloaded from Dell site), as well as older drivers, and I have found the following issue for all of them:

1. After powering on and initializing Windows, my touchpad does not work properly, since every setting I have chosen before is not applied. I try to apply them again in Dell touchapd application (pointer speed, gestures with several fingers...) and they are not applied. It works as if default settings were always used.

2. I reinit my laptop and then everything is ok.My touchpad works using all settings I had selected. And if I change them, they are perfectly applied.

But after turning off my device and starting it hours later, for example the next day, this problem arises again, and I have to init twice to get synaptics driver applied.

I have checked in task manager that this driver is activated at the initialization of the system and with high impact (I think it is ok)

Has anyone found this kind of problem?

Thanks!

HELP PLEASE! Need to Fix Dell (Inspiron 9300) w/UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME Error W/NO XP CD's

HELP PLEASE! I have an 8yo Dell Inspiron 9300 that I have been able to keep running quite well up until this past Sat. (4/27/2013). It was just "idling" w/screen saver running and I got a dreaded BSOD (I've not seen a BSOD in over 1+yr's) - see below... Then when i tried to reboot, I got the second & more ominous BSOD (see below). Here are the 2 BSOD's & their STOP Codes:

1st BSOD - Occurred while PC was idle & screen saver running:

KERNEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR

STOP: 0x0000077 (0xC000000E, 0x000000E, 0x00000000, 0x03BB0000)

2nd BSOD - Got this one after I rebooted the PC following the 1st BSOD...& now I get this BSOD EVERY time I boot it!!:

UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

STOP: 0x000000ED (0x8AFCD590, 0x0000006, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

I have tried everything I know how to try, but cannot get it to boot...  Crying

I have searched extensively online & found an enormous flood/variety of info about this error, but haven't had any luck.

I have seen conflicting info about the ultimate diagnosis/prognosis of my PC that varies from my drive 'might' be recoverable if the problem is just a corrupt BOOT.INI file & might be fixable if I can boot w/XP install CD's & use Recovery Console to run CHKDSK /R and/or FIXBOOT command(s)...all the way to the other extreme that I'm basically SOL b/c the drive is GONE & beyond repair...

I am DESPERATE to get it working... Here is some more info about my issue & what I have tried...

1) I CAN'T boot my PC no matter what I try: Normal or Safe Boot, etc.

2) I can't find the Win-XP CD's that came w/my Dell Inspiron 9300.

3) Even if I did have the CD's, my CD/DVD drive is unreliable & does NOT work 95-98% of the time!

4) Obviously it is seriously OUT OF WARRANTY (LOL!), so I'm not sure what help (if any) I can get from Dell tech Support.

So, I am hoping against hope that I can at least get it to boot one more time so I can get a FULL backup & then I won't have to worry about it any more b/c I have a wonderful brand new MacBook Air (that is WAY MORE RELIABLE than my PC could ever dream of being, I'm afraid…). Is there any hope for my situation?? Does anyone out there have any ideas about what I can try, etc.? Pretty please...? Crying

Cant connect my Dell Inspiron 15R 5521 ( Intel HD 4000 switchable to 2GB AMD Radeon 8730) to HD Monitor via HDMI.

I tried all possible methods in catalyst control and intel display utility in Windows 8 to get my 15R 5521 Laptop  detected via HDMI cable on my 21.5 inch BenQ E2200 LCD monitor, but in vain. Is there a solution to this? Initially I thought it was the HDMI cable issue, but then it works perfectly on my PS3 gaming console. Also the same cable hooks the PS3 console perfectly on to my LG HDTV as well.

Dear Dell... *rant*

You are starting to look a lot more like rogers to me now!

My product is covered under warranty (including hardware) for a couple months yet and I have never had to ask for anything under my warranty...

As a PC tech myself, I spent 45 minutes with customer support explaining that I needed to replace my N5050 AC DC Power Jack Cable Harness Wire.

Only to be told that - It's not an item under warranty...

So here's my issue.

I understand that it is not considered a FRU. Nor does Dell want to deal with issues like such, without charging individuals a ridiculous amount.

But let's be realistic here... I'm not asking you to ship me a $300 CPU or anything even relatively close to such. It is a small, small, piece that is made for pennies. You sell this item on your store for $35. Yet, why the hell would I buy this from you? There are many people out there selling GENUINE parts, and I have come across many listings for under $10.

Dell you sadden me, and as I have said - You are acting like rogers.

A $7 part on a $500 laptop, with a clean account that has never had a warranty issue till date.

For a corporation that thrives on "quality support" you guys lack support for the most simple fixes.

As stated, I understand that the warranty does not cover items that could have been potentially damaged by customers via - misuse, force, water, ect..

But with that being said, as a person using a laptop everyday. There has been 0 intention on this part becoming damaged. <ADMIN NOTE: Substitute character removed as per TOU> would your warranty not cover items like such? Why build laptops that are bound to break and have issues? - OHHHH that's right! You are a joke, i forgot - my mistake.

Thanks for wasting my time and my money.

Cheers,

Arc.

Dell Inspiron 1545 Goes into Sleep mode randomly

$

Hello Everyone, I have a customer who has a Dell Inspiron 1545, and it goes to sleep randomly.

Here is what it is doing:

  • When typing a document in Microsoft Office, Word Document, and even Notepad the computer will power down into sleep mode
    • It won't lose it's data, but it won't let you boot up for a little bit either.
    • It will boot back to a login screen then your right where you left off
    • Doesn't take a long time for it to happen either
  • While hosting a presentation user was able to stay on for 1.5 hours with no trouble, much longer than typing a word document would have allowed
  • Computer will cut off on battery, or while plugged in

I'm not sure what's causing the issue, but here is what I have done

  • Taken the laptop apart, and blown it clear of all dust (very little in there)
  • Ran Disk Cleanup (Despite thinking it's hardware related)
  • Checked that the Power plan was optimal
  • Scanned for Viruses

Anyone have suggestions?

Thanks

Manufacturer's Warranty - How long does it last?

About three months ago, I had to get a charger replaced because it stopped working properly.  At that point, the Complete Care Warranty was still in effect.

However, recently the replacement charger has stopped working as well.  Since the Complete Care Warranty is now expired, I was wondering if Dell would still replace the charger again when it lasted an even shorter time than my last one (which, by the way, lasted about 3 or 4 years)?

Inspiron 17R 7720 SE - Fresh install of Windows 7 per Dell Recovery DVD results in missing drivers?

$

I received my Inspiron 17R 7720 SE laptop, which had a 1TB SATA hard drive.  I had a 128GB SSD that I wanted to use for the Windows, so I put it in the main hard drive slot and used the Windows 7 DVD that came with the laptop to install windows.  It went through the windows install, but setting up the initial computer settings it did not ask for a wireless account/password which I found odd.  Upon going into the Device Manager, the drivers are missing for the display, ethernet card, network card, USB, and a few others.  The Windows is also missing all of the software that originally came on the laptop (typical Dell stuff, Roxio, etc).    I've formatted and installed Windows twice now with the same results.  Per my service tag and in the Driver Download page, no drivers are found and only the Dell Digital Delivery Application is shown to match my laptop.  I've downloaded the other similar drivers to a thumb drive and made the laptop search for the drivers within those to no avail.  I can't even hook up to the internet to do a diagnostics.

Whats the deal here?  Did I get a bad install DVD?
