HI:

I got a Dell Inspiron 7720(17R SE) with a 1TB Hard Drive and 32GB mSATA drive and Intel Smart Response Technology features enabled, I want to upgrade the laptop and use an SSD for booting and the 1TB HD just for storage. My question is if the 1TB HDD will support Intel Smart Response Technology as a second drive and how to configure that

Dell E6410 SDRAM, which voltage (1.35V or 1.5V)?

I would like to know which one is the correct voltage for upgrading the RAM of a DELL E6410, 1.35V or 1.5V? The E6410 Service Manual refers only to the type of SDRAM (DDR3 1066 MHz) but not the voltage. I have found contrasting opinions on the Web.

Which couple of DDR3 1066 MHz SODIMM SDRAM should I buy, 1.35V or 1.5V?

Razer Mouse not recognized on Dell Xps 15

Hi I have a razer deathadder 3500 dpi and just recently it has stopped working with my laptop, dell xps 15 l521x. When I plug in the mouse, I get an error "USB Device Not Recognized". The blue scroll light on the death adder lights up, but that is it.  What makes this confusing is that I know the deathadder mouse is not broken because it works and functions perfectly on my computer downstairs.

Also, I know that the usb ports on my dell xps 15 are working because my cooling pad is working when plugged in.

Lastly, the dell xps 15 seems to only recognize dell-branded mouses because when I plugged in the dell mouse it worked. When I plug in my razer death adder and another mouse that I have (not a dell mouse), both times the light turn on but the mouse does not function.

I am so confused right now and any help would greatly be appreciated, Thanks in advance!

Inspiron N5110 - Battery works but laptop will not run off it

I have a year and a half old Inspiron N5110, and it's had a weird problem for a few months now. [started right outside the warranty period :(  ]

My laptop runs fine off the adapter, but it says "Plugged In, not charging", and it simply switches off when I pull the plug. The battery has about 80% charge, and works fine (charges and discharges) on other laptops. I've put in other batteries in my laptop, and it does not work with them either. The battery charging indicator blinks white and orange (4 short orange blinks, 1 longer white).

So my battery works, my adapter works, the power jack works, but this laptop cannot charge or run off batteries. I have tried cleaning the contacts between the laptop and the battery, but it still does not work.

Could this be due to some bios setting that disables the use of the battery, or is my motherboard broken? :(

Studio XPS1640 keyboard types double letters

Hi Everybody!

Has someone of you noticed the phenomenon, that the internal keyboard of the Studio XPS 16 produces double letters?

If I  type fast, it often happens that the keys k, l, i, o and space are realised double.
I type "google" and the keyboard makes "googlle" out of it, or "goooglle"

The Dell 32-bit diagnostic says, that everything is ok.

The internal keyboard is changed twice.

An external USB-Keyboard works fine.

OS is vista 64bit.

Has anyone an idea or noticed this phenomenon as well?

Dead battery and charger

Hello

I want to ask a few questions concerning my computer's battery and charger. I have a Dell Inspiron and I have been using it for over two years. My laptop's battery ceased to work a few months ago, displaying the message that reads that the battery isn't working and should consider replacing it. Since my charger was working fine, I continued to work with the computer pluged in all the time. The issue now is that a new message appears every time I turn it on: "The computer can't recognize the charger, the system will adapt to the amount of energy supplied. Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or higher for best system operation.

I bought a new AC 65 watt charger but the message continues to appear.

Should I buy a new battery as well?

Does it damage my computer to use it only with a new AC charger but keeping the old battery?

Why does the message concerning the charger continues to appear even after I have replaced the AC charger with a new one?

Please help me with any advice or information you have

Nicolas

latitude e6420 won't go into bios or boot.

When I boot my latitude e6420, it shows the dell logo, and the progress bar goes to the end.  Then the computer just stops.  Retried, and pressed f12 to get into bios/preboot options to perform the maintenance check, but it never gets any further than the dell logo screen.  Is this a bios issue? or other hardware issue?

Dell Inspiron 3520

The Dell laptop my mom bought for my daughter (who is 20, so we're not talking about a little kid here) has developed a bizarre problem with the screen. As soon as it turns on, the screen begins to flicker significantly, and it goes through a cycle in which the flickering ranges from a nuisance that makes viewing the screen annoying to a catastrophic situation in which it is impossible to see anything on the screen at all other than colored, flickering lines. The sole exception to this situation is a small area in the upper right corner of the screen in which there is no visible activity at all — a large blotch of black that is unchanging during the cycle of flickering. It looks almost as if someone struck the screen there with a blunt object, but there is no physical damage visible on the surface of the screen or on the casing to suggest that this happened — it's more as though a subset of the pixels just went dead.

I was able to start a diagnostic (F12) by working only during the "nuisance" phase to input the correct responses. The initial diagnostic reported that the computer was working fine, so I asked it to run the 30-minute diagnostic on the computer's memory (which just started a few minutes ago). Just from what I was able to accomplish, it seems as though the track pad and the basic functions of the machine are not impaired. So based on its behavior, I do not think the problem is in the computer itself; I think it is something to do with the screen. Can anyone offer any hints on how we might address this? Other than taking it in for repair, that is?

Dell xps m1530 NVIDIA GPU

A while ago my xps m1530 stopped working. It would still boot, but my screen wasn't working (and the external screen test also failed). So I did some research and it was the infamous Nvidia bug. So I read several cases of people who had their motherboard replaced by dell for a modest price (34 euro, I live in the Netherlands). So after reading the case file that all m1530 laptops between a certain time period had extended warranty (and mine was also bought in this time period) I called Dell support in the Netherlands.

I was connected with different departments and finally they connected me with someone who had an answer. But it wasnt an answer I expected, he told me that my 8600M Nvidia card was not marked in the computer as a version that was under the extended warranty rule. At first he told me that the extended warranty wasnt valid because it was already 5 years since I bought the laptop (it wasnt, it was 4 years). So is it correct that not all xps m1530 are valid for the extended warranty? I'm disappointed because other customers had their dell fixed for 34 euros, even a week before I called.

So I did not read anything about any "good" version m8600 during that period. Also according to this link, http://en.community.dell.com/dell-blogs/direct2dell/b/direct2dell/archive/2010/09/30/nvidia-gpu-update-nvidia-class-action-lawsuit-and-limited-warranty-enhancement.aspx?PageIndex=9#comments

There is an extended warranty, I was satisfied about my dell and was planning to buy a new xps15. But it feels that the person who "helped" me wasnt really helping me. It feels like he was making excuses not to help me. I also asked him what version m8600 do I have? He said: "I don't know, the computer just says you have the wrong version".

I hope somebody can clear some of the doubts I have....

Wi-Fi connection problem Dell XPS 14" intel core i5

I have a XPS 14" with Core i5, 4GB RAM with Windows 8 preloaded

I am not able to connect to the Wi-Fi in my home. The laptop is just a few days old so I have not tested Wi-Fi connectivity in other places like Starbucks, etc.

I am 100% sure that my wireless (Cisco Linksys) is working normally since I have other devices and three other family members (kids and my wife) that connect no problem. We are not doing anything fancy with security or firewalls.

I can connect to my home Internet by using the ethernet cable (that is how I'm connected at the moment).

Ironically, I was able to connect to Wi-Fi for a short period of time (about 1-2 hours) a couple times only to see the Signal/connection just stop working. I am pretty good with computers and work professionally in software sales.

I have downloaded many updates from both Dell and Microsoft including product drivers. Ive run so many updates that I couldn't tell you all of them but (as is common with Windows products) I have spent many cycles (update / restart) updating hardware drivers, etc.

Please let me know how to troubleshoot this as all of the standard Windows & Dell help suggestions are not making a difference. (i.e. forget the network, disable and re-enable, unistall/reinstall driver, etc).

Thanks

Warranty Problem.

I bought Dell E6440 laptop last month and I have some problem with my bluetooth function. So I contact to service but they said this laptop is not under warranty because of the seller did not paid for this laptop to Dell. Why do I have to be responsible for the payment problem between Dell and the seller.

I think Dell have to solve this payment problem with the seller, Not me.

Please let me know what shell I do.?

BlueTooth - Inspiron 15R-5537

I just purchased a Dell Inspiron 15R-5537 Windows 8.1. I am using a Bluetooth Microsoft  Sculpt Comfort Mouse.

The problem is that BlueTooth frequently stops working and disappears all together from Device Manager.

I can however still see the 3 BlueTooth Services Running and set to Automatic in Services.

After multiple re-boots it may start working again and reappear in Device Manager, only to drop again after some time.

When I am able to (when it re-appears in Device Manager) I have ensured the 'Intel Wireless Bluetooth(R) 4.0 + HS Adapter' driver is both up-to-date and has the Power Saver option unchecked so Windows does not turn it off to conserve power.

Additionally, if related, I intermittently lose WiFi connectivity for no apparent reason. My other devices have no WiFi issues when using them in the same location.

I have screenshots to show this behavior but not sure how to upload to this forum.

Any help resolving this issue would be appreciated, given this is a brand new purchase and I would have expected it to work properly out of the box.

Latitude E6540 shipped w/o ExpressCard cage?

I have just received my new Latitude E6540 this past week, but upon opening I was puzzled that the laptop did NOT have an Express Card cage installed on the laptop.  I went through the website and confirmed that it was suppose to have an Express Card slot and the detailed order info of my laptop did not list that Express Card is removed from laptop.  Did I miss something?  Was the laptop supposed to have come with the Express Card cage but somehow was never installed?  This is the pre-configured model that is currently available on the site.

Dell Studio 1747 not recognizing second hard drive

Hi all --

I just received a Dell Studio 1747 that I bought and am having an issue with the second internal drive. I didn't realize it actually had a second drive in it, as it was only advertised as having a 500 GB main drive.

I opened up the back to install my own 320 GB drive in the second bay, but found a 500 GB drive already in there!

It's not being recognized by the computer though.  I see it in disc manager but am not able to access it, and in the device manager I get an unknown mass storage device and unknown device error.

Any suggestions on how to make this disc recognized?

My Dell laptop will not power up. When I plug the charger in I get the following; Power indicator light - Does not come on, Hard drive indicator light - Does not come on, Battery indicator light - Comes on (white) for about 2-5 seconds. I have no sounds, no screen lighting up, nothing. I tried a different charger with the same results. I removed the battery and charger and held the power button for 30 seconds. It changed nothing.

Alienware 17 Bios

I have been trying to update my BIOS to a newer version (I am currently on A05) but everytime I do it disables my wifi. I have tried A07, A08 & A09 but it is the same every time. The BIOS installs ok but once I get into windows its as if my wifi card doesn't exist, is this just a case of finding the Broadcom driver and installing it once the BIOS has updated, or is there something more sinister going on? I would be interested to know if anybody else has experienced this issue as a quick search on the internet doesn't seem to return any results. Thanks Carl
