Inspiron15r 7537 won't boot into Windows 8.1
Hi all - have had an Inspiron 15R for about a month & it has been great so far. However, this evening I loaded an old game onto the system (Brian Lara Cricket) and Windows said it needed to reboot but on boot up it got as far as the Dell logo and then said there was a problem & would do an 'automatic repair'. The automatic repair failed and took me to the blue screen where there were several fix options.
I thought if I uninstalled the old game it might sort the problem but I can't get into safe mode. I have followed the on-screen instructions but instead of rebooting into safe mode the system boots to a pale blue screen & then powers off.
I've also run system restore, which failed despite having several restore points available. The error message was something like "System Restore failed while scanning the file system on drive C:\ The drive might be corrupt. An unspecified error 0x81000204 occurred during System Restore".
The Dell software appears to give me the option to re-install Windows (the OS recovery is on the hard drive) but that would be the last resort. Is there anything else I can do please? Any help would be gratefully received.

Has someone noticed ghost images (screen burn-in) on Dell XPS 12 Duo?
I recently noticed ghost images on my Dell XPS 12 Duo. If a bright image on dark background stays on the screen for a couple of minutes and then I switch to somewhat dark background I can clearly see the previous image on the screen for some time before it fades away. Once I noticed it I started spotting even more subtle ghost images. I even managed to capture it in a picture with a low-end digital camera - http://imgur.com/a/RIYff (notice the tray icons clearly seen in the Win 8 start screen and even the facebook ad is visible). It is far more clear when you look at the actual screen and not on a picture. I already arranged replacement laptop (as I had other issues with this one) but yesterday I read news about mass defects in Apple's Retina MacBooks ( http://www.ibtimes.com/print/macbook-pro-retina-display-problems-apple-faces-class-action-suit-ghosting-issue-1129939 ) with practically the same issue. Now I wonder if it is possible that all Dell XPS 12 Duo screens have this problem.
So anyone else seeing this on his machine?

Dell Inspiron 15R 5521 Wifi Problems
My laptop will not connect to the wifi at home or school (which have very strong signals). When it doesn't connect sometimes the wired connection symbol appears with a red x (I never used a wired connection before) or the wifi bar with an x shows up. When it does connect i have to frequently disconnect and reconnect to keep it connected to the wifi. I have tried everything, updating drivers and bios numerous times, enabling/disabling networks, etc. Nothing seems to work :(. From what I've seen on the internet this is not an uncommon problem but the answers always seem to be to update the drivers. Someone please help!!!!

Inspiron 3138 keeps dropping wifi connection
I keep losing internet access. Notification icon shows no internet.
It stills sees other computers on home network.
Drivers are current.
Shows normal in device manager.
Winndows 8.1 all updates current.
No problems with other devices in house.
Usually sitting about 10 feet from the router.
Ideas, suggestions, more info?
Also how do I access the recovery partition to do a reset.

WARNING: PAWN SHOPS ARE THIEVES
I was hard up on cash one time and I went to pawn my new Dell Inspiron and when I went back to pick it up I discovered they had sold it right out from under my nose. So I reported them to the business bureau and they are currently investigating the situation. Now here I am using my old mini laptop that's slow to run and costs too much to repair. They could at least have replaced my computer for me. I thought if I posted on the companies website I might gain a following of some sort. Maybe even get my computer back somehow. This is wrong and should not happen. It's stealing. Stealing is wrong. I don't care what people think of something. They have no right to steal something that isn't their's.

upgraded XPS13 from Windows 7 to 8.1, how to do factory restore?
Hi guys,
OK I got an XPS13 that shipped with Windows 7 Home Premium. When Windows 8 came out I got a $15 upgrade. Then I upgraded it to 8.1.
Now I want to do a full factory restore but the instructions I found here do not work. Holding F8 doesn't do squat. I tried CTRL+F11, that doesn't work either.
I was able to get a recovery/troubleshooting screen t come up once but was unable to get it to give me any of the Dell recovery options. It only gave me options to restore to a previous state, etc. It seems that the Windows 8.1 OS doesn't know how to access the recovery partition. I was able to go into Disk Management and see that the recovery partition is still there, I think it was 18GB and a little over half full.
So how do I go about getting Windows 8.1 to access the Windows 7 install that is on the recovery partition?

Dell XPS 13 making High-Pitched Noise (again)
I recently got a replacement XPS 13 due to my first one having issues with high-pitched noise coming out from somewhere inside. Technicians and Customer Service couldn't point out the culprit so they replaced the laptop altogether. And now I am having the exact same issue on my replacement machine. I see from different forum posts that this issue was discovered as early as May/June 2012 and it is still out there. I assume this might be "standard", but people don't notice it due to the frequency.
For such a premium machine with a pricy tag on it (the model I got: i7, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD (1080p edition btw) was priced at NOK 10495 with standard options) you'd expect such issues to be non-existant, if not fixed by now.
I LOVE the XPS 13 in every aspect possible; the lightweight construction, premium feel and solid performance. But I'm often in very quiet areas with this machine, and the noise drives me insane. (I'm a student)

Vostro 3560 fan problem
Hello,
I have a brand new Dell Vostro 3560.
CPU fan has been working constantly, even when the CPU is very low. The noise is awful! There is no software installed only new win7, latest DELL bios A13 and all latest drivers (chipset, video card, etc).
I have performed and CPU fan disgnostic (reboot->F12 ->Disgnostic) it is passed. CPU FAN speed is reported 4600RPM.
Please advise how to resolve this problem!

Inspiron 15R 5521 thick vertical stripes on screen
Hello to whoever might be reading this. Was wondering if anyone has experienced this and what I can do about this. I just bought my Dell Inspiron 15R 5521 Touch screen laptop at the beginning of June. It came and all seemed well. As the weeks went by, I started to notice vertical stripes about a finger width running vertically across the screen about 1 inch apart from each other. I thought the screen was just dirty, so I used a microfiber cloth specifically for laptops to clean it. It didn't help. The stripes got worse and worse. At first, you could only see them when the computer was off, but now you can see them when the computer is on as well. I have never dropped my computer or gotten it wet or spilled anything on it or anything bad. It seems as if the "stripes" are etched in the glass on the outside or something...really can't figure this one out. Any ideas? And if you know what is wrong, do you know how to fix it? I did call Dell and they said that it is under warranty and they will fix it, but I don't want this to happen again, so I am looking for advice so I don't ruin the new screen (although I really don't think I did anything to this one). HELP!!!

Inspiron 17R SE 7720 won't wake from sleep when lid is closed via usb keyboard/mouse
So I have an Inspiron 17R SE 7720 that has all the latest drivers with BIOS A11 (Win 7 Ultimate x64)... I have all the power settings configured for correctly for sleep (no hybernate), however no matter what I try, I can't get the laptop to wake when the lid is closed via USB keyboard.
I'm using Logitech's Wave MK560 combo (unifying receiver) - both the keyboard/mouse have the wake option enabled in their hardware settings. I also have wake from USB enabled in the BIOS.
The interesting thing is that if I put the computer to sleep with the lid open, I can make it sleep/wake it from the Logitech devices. With the lid closed, I can only make it sleep - the only way to wake it up is to open the lid and press the power button.
Anyone know of a fix to this?

Dell 3521 Plugged in not charging
hello everyone,
today i see when i was charging my battery so it suddenly says plugged in not charging so i remove and again put my charger after some time again same problem so i restarted again same problem then i update the bios again same problem but the problem is that the battery cannot increase more than 66% if it is 60% it will charge to 66% then it will not go on it is stuck on 66% any solution please

Windows 7 Pro on Inspiron 11 3000
I just bought a pair of Inspiron 11 3000's and am almost finished "down" grading the o/s from Windows 8 to 7 Pro. I have all of the drivers loaded and working except for a Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller (listed under Other devices). Can anyone help me find the Windows 7 driver for this? The Unknown Devices program shows it as Dell and Intel Corporation.

New XPS 13 (9333) Constant Noise
I have just recently received a new XPS 13 with the new haswell i7 processor, 8gb RAM, 256gb ssd, and windows 8.1.
I really like this laptop, but it makes a really bizarre noise. It happens constantly as soon as its powered on, like a high pitched whirring sound from somewhere beneath the keyboard. It also seems pretty inconsistent, like it flickers in frequency, and when you use programs (e.g scroll through webpages) it gets louder.
Can anyone help me with what the issue is here? Any help appreciated.

Alternative to Dell #342-1482 SSD for upgrade of XPS M1710

I own an XPS M1710 laptop which has served me well.
However, I would also like to install a 2.5" SSD to replace the existing mechanical hard Drive.
Dell sells a $500 256 GB drive Part # 342-1482. You can now find this capacity SSD for $120. Do you have a substitue list of acceptable SSDs.
The Dell SSD is too expensive. Is there some reason why it must be used rather than a comparable SSD?

Dell XPS M1710 Clean install of Win 7 64bit versus Dell Suggestion of Windows 8.1

My Dell XPS M1710 with 4GB has the horsepower to support Win 7 64. Other posts back in 2009 support this assumption.
The Dell Driver Web support page for the 1710 only lists XP and some Vista Drivers. There is no mention of Win 7 (32 or 64).
However, Dells wants me to buy a Windows 8.1 install package. The Dell representative claims that the 8.1 installation is Driver backward compatible to the hardware of the M1710. I am skeptical.
1. They could not tell me if this package was an upgrade or would allow me to perform a "clean install".
2. Dell stated that they do not have Win 7 (32 or 64) drivers for the 1710 yet the drivers are implicitly available in the Win 8.1 package.
A. Is it difficult to find Win 7 64 drivers for the M1710 from the original manufacturers?
B. Does any opinion or actual experience support the Dell claim for the Win 8.1 package?

Why won't my Dell Inspiron 3521 integrated webcam work?
I bought my laptop, which is a Dell Inspiron 3521, about a year ago. I've never had the need to see if my integrated webcam worked, because I've never had a reason to use it, however I do need to use it now.
I've spent hour searching through posts/forums trying to find an issue that would cause my webcam to not work, but I haven't anything yet. I've checked under "Manage Devices" , but there's not even a file/folder for "Imaging Devices"...if that's the problem, then how do I fix it?
I'm getting really frustrated, because I don't understand, but if anyone could help me I would appreciate it!

Can I put a SSD in latest Inspiron 15 7000 series?
Hi, I'm searching all over the web with no definate answer. Can the hard disk be changed for an SSD on the Inspiron 15 7000 series at : http://www.dell.com/uk/p/inspiron-15-7537/pd?oc=cn75316&model_id=inspiron-15-7537 ?
By change I mean that I would do it after purchase if the relient cable is available.
(note I know that one of the 14inch models does support this (as it comes with one), why does 15inch version not offer this?)
Note this is stopping me from purchasing.
