studio xps 1340 periodically overheats and shuts down

I've researched this as best I can and despite having cleaned my laptop inside and out and using a cooling pad, I inevitably get a fast running fan and ultimately an overheat and shut down. This happens even when I'm not running any power demanding programs. I love the machine and hate the idea of having to replace a fairly new laptop but I'm at my wits end with it. Any help would be appreciated.

PS...I did read that this is and has been a problem specific to this machine and that dell was supposed to come out with a better replacement vent configuration??

Double layer DVD disks

I'm using Dell Laptop Inspiron M5010 running Windows 7 home.  Question is does my unit come with DVD burner that will let me copy material from my hard drive to double layer DVDs?  Using off unit HDDs 2  100gb and 750gb plus on board HDD 80Gb.  storing large volumes of photos to outside HDD's to save my on board hard drive.   However whenever I attempt to store on Double layer disks nothing but ruined disks results.   How do I find out if my DVD burner will work on these larger voluum discs?

Im downloading most all of my pictures from Nikon DSLR camera and wish to make backup copies to DL DVD disks.  Shooting in Raw setting for most pixles per shot so takes up lots of space on drives.  Would appreciate any info thanks    Me

Wifi on Dell Latitude E5420

Hi,

Friends have given me their Dell laptop Latitude E5420, which has barely been used.

I am trying to get Wifi up and running on it but with little success. Others have tried, but they are not really very technical!

From basic research, it seems like i don't have any drivers for Wifi, and also a wireless card in whichever socket (I don't want a "dongle", so am happy to buy a card if needed).

However, I don't know how to check either of these as fact, and if there is anything else missing

- For the wireless card, I have looked in the Device Manager in control panel, but don't know what I'm actually checking for.
- For the Wifi driver, the Network Connections in control panel comes up with 3 options. Broadband connection (disconnected WAN Miniport (PPPOE), Broadband Connection 2 (Disconnected WAN Miniport (PPPOE) and Local Area Network (Network cable unplugged Broadcom NetExtreme Gigabit Ethernet).

Please can someone help? I'm pretty sure the laptop is missing something(s), but not sure what, and how to check what is missing.

Also, what do I need to actually buy, and what can I download from the net or from the Dell website?

Many thanks for your help

Victor.

Dell XPS 15 giving me error 0x4001100200001005 after replacing HDD

Hello, I have a Dell XPS 15 that has been occasionally black-screening and refusing to boot since purchasing it.  After using the proper recovery media to reinstall Windows 8 three times, the errors persisted, and Windows started warning me that the hard drive had gone bad.

I went out and got a new hard drive and installed it.  However, attempting to use the same recovery media I had been using before results in Error 0x4001100200001005 once the process reaches 50%.

A Googling of this error says that the issue lies with not being able to use Dell recovery media on non-OEM hard drives.

First, is that really the issue?  Second, is there any way around this?

XPS 13-L322X with Windows 8.1. Plugged in, not charging at 60%

System was purchased May 2014 and under warranty until May 2016.

When I plug in charger, it says XX% (Plugged in, Charging). However, when it gets to 60%, it changes to 60% (plugged in, not charging)

Battery is less than year old and I made sure battery had good cycles to ensure long battery life.

I have searched, diagnosed and followed many steps suggested in the forum including following.

http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19497793.aspx

I was told by computer technician that I may just have a battery that needs replacing because it's not holding charge above 60%. Can you please help me regarding this matter? Laptop is still under warranty and Battery should last longer than this.

Thank you.

Kevin

Hello everybody, please excuse my english for it is not my native language.

I currently possess a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 series laptop with  touchscreen, but here is my problem:

-First of all, the touchscreen won't work, even though I have installed all the required drivers (I think I did)
-Secondly, the screen is really really hot, but only on the left side of it! It is really noticeable, and the fan is producing a heavy noise. I checked the fan and cleaned it many times, and it doesnt seem to be broken or dirty.

Could somebody please help me with this issue? :) Especially with the overheating which is really annoying. It would be greatly apreciated because I just bought this laptop three month ago.

Thank you for any help you may provide

I have the Dell battery setting to "Primarily AC" which is supposed to only charge the battery up to a certain amount, not 100%. However my battery gets charged to 100% no matter what I do.

Anyone know what the problem might be? I have no 3rd party apps installed that mess with the power settings.

I can't get the error message to go away, though.. Help!  I tried going into BIOS, but I didn't see how to turn it off there. It's a DELL Inspiron N4010 Windows 7 Home Premium. The error code is 2000-0142. Thanks in advance!

Dell XPS 15 Keyboard Letters Work Intermittently

$

I have a Dell XPS 15 L502X that is about 2.5 years old. As of late, my keyboard has been having problems with certain letters on the left side (a, s, 1, 2, q...). What would be causing this problem? My external keyboard works perfectly, and I've tried the whole reboot with nothing plugged in. Also, there's no consistency. Sometimes, the letters don't work at all, sometimes they fire doubles/triples. Strangely I've had very few issues writing this post, but there are times when it's really bad. Any ideas what would be causing this? My thought is replace the keyboard, but I don't want to throw away money trying things. Thanks.

Dell Inspiron 15R 5521 does not power on post BIOS update

$

Hi
My Dell Inspiron 15R 5521 (i5 processor, 8GB  RAM, 1TB HDD and Windows 8) prompted me to install a BIOS update which I did.

The update was completed successfully (from A04 to A10 I think not sure) and I left it on for an hour or so. The BIOS update details still remained on the screen and would not return to Windows.

I contacted Dell Support and they suggested that I drain the laptop of static charge by pressing the power button after disconnecting a/c power and battery. Nothing worked. The power does not come on and the laptop is dead. No sign of any light on the laptop, nothing on the screen and cannot hear the fan running.

Can a BIOS update conk the motherboard out in this fashion? Any suggestions welcome. Else, I have to get the motherboard replaced which is going to cost $. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Laptop screen flickering and horizontal lines problem in Inspiron 15r SE 7520

$

I've a Dell inspiron 15r se laptop which is 1.1 years old( model - 7520). It was working fine until last couple of days. Last week it started giving a horizontal white dot line on the very top of screen( like this ............. in white) for the entire width of the screen. It appears every 2 or 3 sec. And screen will jump a bit (like say 5 pixel or so roughly) and it will also shake sometimes which makes letters difficult to read.

The problem exists everywhere, even in boot screen. In short when I press power button and screen start displaying something problem also starts.

Today I connected an external lcd monitor via vga cable and it works fine. No line and no flickering. So I guess GPU is ok?? What could be the problem?? Could it be just loose contact or something in laptop screen cable?

Another question: I had warranty including accidental damage protection and stuff for a year. But since I'm outside this period now, what should I do?

And since I'm outside the warranty period anyway is it okay if I open my laptop and try something?

Please Help!!

Inspiron 17R SE 7720 shutting down when gaming

Hello,

I have a 7720 and over the last couple of weeks the laptop has powered itself off about 6 separate times during gaming. The most recent time today it happened only 5 minutes into a game.

The laptop makes a clicking sound, the screen turns black and it shuts down all within about 1 second.

I'm running the latest BIOS and I have tried both the latest NVIDIA drivers and the Dell recommended ones. I have run the My Dell diagnostics and the laptop passed everything, including the GPU tests.

I really like this laptop a lot, but it's not going to be much use if I can't run games for more than a few minutes without it switching off on me - and the game it happened in today, Football Manager 2014, isn't a particularly graphically intensive one.

Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks.

Constant noise XPS 13 haswell (9333)

$

Just to add to the statistics, my two month old XPS 13 haswell developer edition also suffers from the highly disturbing coil whine noise that seem to plague the entire xps models at the moment. Adding to the misery I also got the screen with the severe backbleeding issues that have been reported by others. The coil whine can be modulated by changing the CPU load, adjusting the keyboard backlight brightness or connecting peripherals to the usb ports. This makes me suspect that the voltage regulation modules on the motherboard are setup inappropriately.

The support from Dell (Scandinavia) has been subpar (just like everywhere else on the forums covering the topic) and it seems Dell is just sticking their heads in the sand and hoping this embarrassing situation will resolve itself. Despite the fact they know about this issue, they continue to produce and ship their new flagship model like nothing has happened. This arrogance is disturbing. I really wanted this line of computers to be a game changer for Dell, and hoped they had left "dell hell". But apparently they are still entrenched in the progress trap they fail to realize they are in, clinging to a business model and poor engineering that belong to the past. Goodbye Dell.
