Hi,

 

I have a new Dell Precision M4700 with I-7-3940XM processor, 32GB RAM , 250GB SSD and 1TB SATA drives running Windows 7 64bit and am trying to run Windows server 2K8 VMs in VM Workstation 9. After the abysmal performance of my Latitude D600 with 4GB RAM, I imagined this was going to run like the proverbial manure off a hot shovel. However something is just not right, booting the VMs and doing anything inside them is like watching paint dry. VM Tools is installed they have 4GB and 16GB RAM respectively but everything is just grinding to a halt. I have all the VM folders excluded from any AV .

Any pointers would be great

 

BTW Windows experience index is 6.7 if that is at all relevant

I really don't know what is happening with the laptop, sometimes I noticed my laptop screen will flicker(or a bright flash as if someone was taking a picture). When I go to the event viewer it tells me Desktop windows service manager has been disabled by the windows system assessment tool. I'


I have the nvidia graphics card + Intel(using optimus technology),running windows 7 professional 64 bit. Please help me as I'm getting a tired of finding a solution for this since there isn't any available 

I forgot to mention when playing videos I think the graphic card makes a strange noise like there isn't enough power or something (Not 100% sure)

I have nvidia gt555 with intel Optimus 

Intel 2670m

8GB of RAM

Windows 7 professional

I tried to do a fresh install of windows 7 but the problem still persists and I cannot test it since I have deleted the recovery Drive. How do I test if the graphics card is working properly

hello i am new here and i am not sure if this is the correct place to post this:)btw. i have format my laptop inspiron n5110 15r and all gone smoothly expect i cannot locate  wifi internet.the problem i thinks is that  i cannot put drivers in network controller and sm bus controller.i try the dell support drivers for this controller but they cant launch correct.they dont install correctly.pls help me if anyone knows.sorry for my english and thanks for all

Performed BIOS update from A04, when computer needed to reboot, it also said it was performing updates, which I assumed were window updates.  I left the computer overnight and when  I returned the screen was black with white dots being drawn on screen by a blinking rotating cursor as if it is performing some update.  The screen is filled with:

.  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .

.  .  .  .  .  .  .  .  .

As the cursor rotates several times, it puts another dot on the screen at the location it was rotating.  The cursor rotates using the characters / | \ 

Is this an update being performed or this indicating some boot issue after BIOS update.  I started the BIOS update 20 hours ago.  While I was watching it, it was performing an update 12 out of 20 and it took over 2 hours to get to update 14.

Dell D820 slows down considerably within minutes.

Hello everyone,

I am very much of an IT novice so please make your replies, if any, as simple as you can. Thank you.

Recently I have inherited a D820 without a HD (and subsequently without an OS. I installed a WD HD and bought a Ubuntu OS. I don't have any previous experience of laptos.

I have no idea about the previous performance of the laptop but now when I switch it on it initially seem to work normally but within about three minutes it slows down so much that opening or closing any application takes 30-45 seconds. The application windows open and close in a staggering fashion slowly dimming as they go. (I suspect that this dimming effect is the intended function of Ubuntu OS but Iam sure not the staggering.)

The laptop seem to get very hot underneath and I was wondering whether slowing down was due to that. Can Ubuntu OS be causing it?

I would be grateful for your diagnostic opinions and any possible remedies.

Hi,

The left hinge of my laptop has broken when I tried to open my laptop. The laptop is covered under warranty. But the customer support executive says that it is not covered under the warranty as it is an accidental breakage. But it is not so. It was not an accident and was operated under normal operating condition. Neither should it be treated as normal wear and tear. Should'nt be a problem with the reliability of the part? I am sure that the part was not designed to give way within one year! 

Please let me know what can be done as I strongly feel that this should be covered under warranty.

I have recently purchased an inspiron 14z, I'm quite disappointed in how long it takes to boot. For instance it is considerably slower thsan my older latitiude machine which does not have a hybrid drive. Is there something I can do to check the intel smart start (or whatever) is working correctly? Is the 32gb SSD portion supposed to show up as an extra empty hdd at D://?

My Dell Inspiron N5050's body has gone slightly loose. I mean, I am just asking if it is normal or not, that the palm rest at some places on the edges is pressed slightly inwards when a little pressure is given or when i place my palm on it making little clicking sounds.The case is similar with the base, which makes little clicking sound when pressed at certain places (just beneath the touchpad).

Its still under warranty (and i know that these things don't come under warranty) and hence I don't want to mess up with the screws myself. Will it be useful if i take this to the service center?

I'm using the XPS12 with the Dell USB dock and I'm connecting to 2 external monitors and a USB mouse through it. It works fine but in some programs (mostly IE), when I move the mouse quickly over a page, there's a LOT of hesitation. It seems related to the "mouseover" effects most times but not always. And sometimes it gets so bad the mouse just freezes for a second and seems to "reset" itself. Not a major issue but very annoying.

Be aware that if I see the hesitation on a page, I can take the same browser window and pull it down to the actual laptop screen and the hesitation does not happen. Move it back up to the external monitor, and it happens again. I'm assuming it's something to do with sending video over USB.

Anyone else seen this?

Hi everyone!

Let me talk straight-to-the-point.

What are the compatible wireless cards for dell inspiron N4110?

Reasons why I am looking for other cards:

1. This laptop has Broadcom 4313 already installed. But,

2. I want to install/change the wireless card (WiFi) so that I have no problem in my hackintosh. Broadcom 4313 is a perfect issue here, and,

3. I need the card perfect too for Aircrack-ng.


Please, I need your help.

I have to check this thread whenever possible for me.

Hi Folks.

 

I have just reformatted my lattitude E6530 windows 7 32 bit. However, the resource CD does not appear to contain the execuable file dell notebook system software Dell NSS which will then load all the drivers in the correct order.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hi there,

I have a Dell XT3 – convertible tablet PC which is not running in tablet mode when I turn the screen. The screen itself turns orientation but neither the pen, finger or the buttons on the side work. When I try to visit the Dell Tablet Manger it gives me ‘TabUI.exe has stopped working’ and crashes.

 

Any help would be appreciated!

my new 15z will give me 2 beeps at startup and no screen. I have to hold down the power button to make it quit. After several attempts it will usual boot up giving me a message about rebuilding some files.   Should I return

Hello.

I'm planning on upgrading the CPU in my Inspiron n5050 from the Intel i3-2350M 2.3ghz chip that it came with, to an Intel i5-2430M 2.4ghz chip.

Will the installation be a simple swap, or will I also have to do some additional work in order for the upgrade to be successful?

Having read some posts previously advise this was a "processor failure" eg http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19436289.aspx, I went and purchased a new cpu - the exact same model ie AMD Athlon II P360. After fitting it, I still get the same beep codes. I notice the fans spin up and then stop. There is no video displayed on the screen nor on an external TFT display. I have read some more posts where people claim the codes could also indicate motherboard failure, even one person saying it is 95% mobo, 5% cpu chances. I am therefore disappointed to have wasted money on a cpu that wasn't the cause. 

The post in the link was made by Royan, a Dell employee. If it had been some random person, I might have been sceptical about buying a cpu, but I thought I could trust the advice of a Dell employee. Now I am resigned to binning this laptop as it is outside of warranty.

Very disappointed. Spent a fortune building my dell "dream machine" and the mother board is out after 16 mos? All you want is more money. If you spent as much time giving your customers support as you do trying to sell them warranties to cover the quality you lack, you might have sold me and many others more computers. And you farm everything out overseas as well. I'll assure you that I'll NEVER spend another dime with dell. You can learn a lot from apple.

I have a D630 with system board problems.

I have a new board, and would like to transfer my service tag number to the new board.

As I understand it, this tag is stored in the BIOS.

 

How would I go about transferring it?  I did not get ant manuals / CDs / software / etc.  with the board.
