I just purchased a Dell Inspiron 15.6" laptop and want to hook an external HD 24 " monitor to it. I'm using the HDMI port. Is there anyway to have the laptop lid down and still send signal to the external monitor? When I close the lid I lose signal to the monitor of course but I thought I read there was a setting that allowed this? I did not buy a docking station.

XPS12 9Q33 RAM Issues
I have a Hazwell XPS12 9Q33 with Windows 8.1, 8Gb RAM and 240GB mSATA drive. Granted this system isn't built for gaming but there are low level games I have that play well. I've not had any issues with the RAM since buying this system until the last few days. I've been playing a game called Torchlight II, which really doesn't consume much in resources. The problem I'm getting is low RAM popups during the game. I have monitoring software and it tells me I'm no where close to even using half of the install RAM. I also play another game called RUSE, which uses more resources than Torchlight but I never receive RAM warnings. My concern isn't just because I'm playing games but I'm in school and will soon be using multiple virtual drives for lab work and you know I will be using a considerable amount of RAM then. Any suggestions or solutions?

Inspiron 15 3537 and Windows 8.1 Wakeup problem.
Hi.
I just bought my new laptop. I have it for around 10 days. Everything was ok at first but after 3-4 days I decided to update to Windows 8.1. After that the laptop never wakes up after going to sleep no matter what I do.
It seems that others have the same issue. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling both display drivers, I removed a bluetooth device that had an error with 8.1 but I couldn't resolve the wakeup problem. I ran the power troubleshooter, nothing. Hybrid sleep in advanced power settings was already off.
Is there any solution? Please help. It's really frustrating to have to do a hard reset everytime
My machine is an Inspiron 15 3537, i7 4500U, AMD 8850M, 8GB RAM, 1TB HD.

XPS 15 media card reader doesn't recognize card
Strange problem cropped up. Put an SD card in as have done many times, but this time the computer didn't recognize card. Put the card in my wife's Studio 17 and it popped right up.
Can media card reader fail? I always keep the dummy plug in while not using so shouldn't be dirty. If so does Dell have a replacement part?
I looked thru my service manual for my xps and it covers replacing everything but the media card. I checked the Studio manual and it does cover step by step replacement of the media reader. Guess they left that out of the xps manual.
Any suggestions on diagnosing. Can't identify it in system devices.

Dell Inspiron N5010 Recently Reinstalled Windows 7 - Product Key Won't Work for Online Activation
I have recently re-installed Windows 7 on my Dell Inspiron N5010 (15R?). I did this using a version of Windows 7 downloaded from the internet. When I entered my product key it did not work, I have since found out that this is because my product key is from a version of Windows which came pre-installed with my laptop. I realise now that I could have used the factory image that was originally saved on the recovery partition of my laptop. However, after re-installing Windows from the downloaded version, this factory image file seems to have been deleted. I was wondering if there is any possible way to restore my laptop in a way that will allow my product key to activate Windows. Is it possible to download a recovery image file from somewhere that will work for my laptop? Is there any way that I may be able to recover the backup data that was previously stored on my laptop? Or is it possible to request a CD from dell that I can use to do a clean install of my OS (my laptop did not come with any recovery disks, so I'm assuming everything that was needed to do a factory image reset was previously stored on the recovery partition of the hard drive). I apologise for the mass of unorganised information in this post, any help would be appreciated though. If you need any more information please ask and I will post it on here ASAP.

Dell 1545 Will Not Boot Into Recovery Partition
Could someone boot into recovery mode, launch the command prompt and run the following, bcdedit /enum all and post it? I have a friends Dell 1545 and I think the Boot Manager/Loader is screwed up b/c it is not booting into recovery. I can boot to the Windows 7 OS, but we need to do a factory restore because of a nasty virus she has. I would greatly appreciate it!

Dell wifi driver is not getting installed
Hi Dell,
I have recently re-installed my O.S, Which is Windows 7 Ultimate. After installing i have found wifi and bluetooth driver is not installed. I have started installing with my Driver CD. I extracted wifi driver. After extraction it failed to install. I have tried with all wifi options but no luck. But i successfuly extracted and installed Bluetooth driver. Only wifi driver is getting fail during installation.
My laptop is Dell inspiron, 14 inch. I bough it around 2 years back. Please check it and share the working driver path.
Please revert back in case of requirement of more details.

Inspiron laptop shutsdown instead of sleeping
Hello all,
just looking to see if anyone has found a fix for my issue. I have an Inspiron 15R 5537 running windows 8.1, latest drivers for all device hardware/bios etc. i've reinstalled them all several times in my troubleshooting process. But cannot figure out why, whenever I close the lid on my laptop, the laptop completely shutsdown, every time. Windows power settings are set to sleep when the lid is closed but everytime it still wants to shutdown.
Anyone have any good suggestions?

Dell XPS 15z serious overheating problem

I have a serious overheating problem now with my Dell XPS 15z.
I have this computer for over 2 years now. This issue didn't come out before. Then suddenly one week ago the fan started to operate every time I use computer - before it was operating like this only when playing games or rendering videos in Premiere.
The computer overheats terribly, and time to time switches off 1-2 hours later because of the overheating. Actually I can't really touch the left upper part of the computer after 30-40 minutes, because it becomes so hot.
The issue came together with some graphic problem - once a day the colours on the screen started to vibrate for few minutes, then went on as normal.
So I reported both problems to Dell support in Hungary last week. A Dell technician came today morning to repair the laptop. The motherboard and the heatsink was changed in the computer.
I was testing it the whole day, and unfortunately the overheating problem remained the same. The laptop is very very loud all the time and overheats terribly. So far the graphical problem didn't come up.
I'm using Windows 8 for 1,5 years with this laptop now, last year November-December upgraded to 8.1
Can send my service tag on request.
I assume it might be some problem with my Nvidia 525M graphic card?
Please help, I don't know what is the issue, and can't work - the laptop is too hot, and it switches off after becoming too hot.
Just measured the temperature with Speedfan. It shows 84-90 C for core 1 and 2.

Vostro 3560 fan problem
Hello,
I have a brand new Dell Vostro 3560.
CPU fan has been working constantly, even when the CPU is very low. The noise is awful! There is no software installed only new win7, latest DELL bios A13 and all latest drivers (chipset, video card, etc).
I have performed and CPU fan disgnostic (reboot->F12 ->Disgnostic) it is passed. CPU FAN speed is reported 4600RPM.
Please advise how to resolve this problem!

Has someone noticed ghost images (screen burn-in) on Dell XPS 12 Duo?
I recently noticed ghost images on my Dell XPS 12 Duo. If a bright image on dark background stays on the screen for a couple of minutes and then I switch to somewhat dark background I can clearly see the previous image on the screen for some time before it fades away. Once I noticed it I started spotting even more subtle ghost images. I even managed to capture it in a picture with a low-end digital camera - http://imgur.com/a/RIYff (notice the tray icons clearly seen in the Win 8 start screen and even the facebook ad is visible). It is far more clear when you look at the actual screen and not on a picture. I already arranged replacement laptop (as I had other issues with this one) but yesterday I read news about mass defects in Apple's Retina MacBooks ( http://www.ibtimes.com/print/macbook-pro-retina-display-problems-apple-faces-class-action-suit-ghosting-issue-1129939 ) with practically the same issue. Now I wonder if it is possible that all Dell XPS 12 Duo screens have this problem.
So anyone else seeing this on his machine?

Dell Duo 1090 Tablet Touch Screen disabled
I upgraded my Dell Duo 1090 to a legal copy of Windows 8 (technically unsupported by Dell). It worked fine for months and then suddenly the following happened:
- Touch screen disabled
- Pen and Touch Setting missing from Control Panel
- No Calbration settings
Any ideas?

XPS 15 9530 - Noise problem?
Hi all,
I just got my new XPS 15, amazing laptop but there's 1 big problem,
A high-pitched scratching/screeching noise is produced from the power button area ONLY when the power is plugged in and the battery is fully charged.
I've seen other forums and others have exactly the same problem, Any ideas?

Dell Duo Inspiron 1090 Battery Replacement
Is there a better battery out there for the Dell Duo Inspiron 1090? The batter life on mine is and has always been about 2 hours at best. As Dell pretty much abandoned this unit soon after releasing it, I can't find much 'honest' information.
Also, is the battery user replaceable?. Most of what I'm reading says no.

Upgrade Issuses in upgrading to Windows 8.1 Inspiron N5040
Hi everyone,
today I decided to finally switch to Windows 8, so I inserted my copy of Windows 8.1 and booted to setup on my inspiron N5040 but, obviously, an issue:
This is the screen which prevents me to continue the installation, I surfed the web, searching for solutions: I formatted the C:\ drive and created a new NTFS partition but nothing, then I downloaded the Intel Rapid Storage driver, but none of this possible solutions helped.
So now I'm wondering if some of you has a solution for this.

Targeted Read Test Failed and SMART short self test failed
I ran the check disc and it found only 1 bad sector and there was only 4kb data in it, which it removed. Anyways, I was wondering what effects this would have on my computer? I know I need to replace the hard drive but I can't do it at the moment, and my warranty has run out. How long will my computer be able to run before anything starts to happen?

Troubling to install USB 3.0 driver and Digital Person Finger print reader in Windows 8 Professional 64bit
Hey,
Recently when I want to install my USB 3.0 driver in my Dell Vostro3460 core i5laptop then it's show me following errors. But, at past I install it in my laptop, even still this software is still comfortable in Windows 7 32/64 bit.
I also noticed that my finger print driver also not working even I install them successfully in my laptop. I always download those software from Dell Driver Download center.
I live in Bangladesh where in my known no Dell Support center does not exist.
So, how can I overcome from this situation ???
