M6500 8gb memory not running at 1600Mhz

In the dell service manual, it reads the following:

"NOTE: Intel Core i7-920XM Quad-Core
processor supports memory frequency up
to 1600 MHz. All other Core i7 Quad-Core
processors support memory frequency up
to 1333 MHz only, even if memory
modules of higher frequency are installed."

According to the Intel Processor Identification Utility, my CPU is :

'Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 920XM Extreme Edition CPU @ 2.00GHZ

Also reports the IMC Speed is 1333Mhz

I recently purchased 4 8GB dimms spec'd at 1600MHz and installed them but they're all running at 1333MHZ.

Do I have to do something to make them run at 1600Mhz?

New XPS 13 (9333) Constant Noise

I have just recently received a new XPS 13 with the new haswell i7 processor, 8gb RAM, 256gb ssd, and windows 8.1.

I really like this laptop, but it makes a really bizarre noise. It happens constantly as soon as its powered on, like a high pitched whirring sound from somewhere beneath the keyboard. It also seems pretty inconsistent, like it flickers in frequency, and when you use programs (e.g scroll through webpages) it gets louder.

Can anyone help me with what the issue is here? Any help appreciated.

Dell Inspiron 1545 not turning on

Hi! I have a Dell notebook 1545. Recently, my battery light at the front of my laptop flashed amber 4x, white once. I ordered a replacement battery. Prior to replacing, I noticed my laptop would not power on. The charger was plugged in at this time. I put the new battery in, left it plugged in over night. The light no longer flashes, and stays white. Still will not turn on. I unplugged it, took the battery out, held the power button down for a duration of time, put it all back together, plugged it in, and nothing. I repeated the process of holding the power button down at least five more times and nothing. Things I have noticed: Computer light for the battery at the front of the laptop will not light up unless plugged in. This was the same for the old battery as well. No noise is coming from the laptop No beeps sounded No power at all The light for my charger does light up blue when plugged in Have tried several outlets, all with no luck Took it to Geek Squad, and without testing anything, he said the motherboard was out. He didn't open it or run any diagnostics or anything. He just plugged it in and pushed the button... My laptop is from 07 Any solutions would be welcome!!

Multilingual keyboards

Dear Dell,

I might be not the only one to notice, but why you treat Russian customers like Dell isn't world leading PC manufacturer but like a Chinese counterfeit producer? What's wrong with the guy/girl who is responsible for Cyrillic fonts on your keyboards? Why the Latin symbols are good and polished, and Cyrillic look like <ADMIN NOTE: Profanity removed as per terms of use>? Is it a big deal to use a good font or pay $39 USD for a license? That's a shame when a $2000+ notebook like the new XPS 15 has such an awful font on its keyboard. I would rather buy an American version of it, but it has Latin letters in the center, so I cannot engrave the Cyrillic ones properly by myself, like i did it on my current Latitude Z600. Look at this forum, and 2 keyboards pictured in these posts: (Please visit the site to view this file)http://forum.ixbt.com/topic.cgi?id=17:49697-8#235 (the new XPS 15 from Dell's official reseller in Russia) and (Please visit the site to view this file)http://forum.ixbt.com/topic.cgi?id=17:49697-8#236 (my old Z600 with Russian letters engraved in Moscow, as no Z600 were supplied here). Can you see the difference? We (in Russia) see it clearly, and let me assure you that there are a lot of good-looking Cyrillic fonts many of which has Latin symbols embodied as well so the text and letters look the same no matter which layout you use.

I'd like to see Dell's keyboards made better, with a proper respect to non-English users who have to work with 2-layot keyboards. Please let me know, when I could get a new XPS 15 with a pretty keyboard. Thanks.

Terrible burning performance of the TSSTCORP DVD+-RW sn-208bb on the Vostro 3560

I've read almost every post here, installed, removed and tested settings (upper-lower filters, osprey toolbox and stuff), single and dual layer media (tdk, sony, maxell, generics but none from the "media to avoid" list) and software that I know works under other drivers and still coaster after coaster, and ever weirder, media comes out just as it came in: blank, and not even slightly warm, as it happens on my PC DVD burner, leading me to believe that this drive is not burning, no matter what.

My question is: is the BD-ROM Player / DVD burner/player combo any better? Has anyone swapped the DVD for the BluRay and gotten better burning capacities, apart from the very welcome BD playback upgrade?

Please share your experiences.

Thanks!

Hi all,

I just got my new XPS 15, amazing laptop but there's 1 big problem,

A high-pitched scratching/screeching noise is produced from the power button area ONLY when the power is plugged in and the battery is fully charged.

I've seen other forums and others have exactly the same problem, Any ideas?

I found this example http://z.mk/e6vq , the power is plugged into the laptop at 6 seconds.

Thanks

When I upgraded to Windows 7, my bluetooth stoped working. I spent some time looking for appropriate download and I found it. I want to share it with you becasue I know it is difficult to find, and Dell Support seems to be useless.  I hope it will work for you - It works for me:

XPS 9530 overheating / stuttering while gaming or using Nvidia card? (an odd fix)

$

Do you own a new XPS 9530?  Do you casually game?  Is it getting great Frame rate (FPS) at first and then dropping to 10 or less frames for no apparent reason?  Does the machine just feel abnormally hot?

If you answered yes to a couple of these questions I think I have a few possible solutions for you.

1. Heat Sink Grease - THIS is what appears to have finally fixed the problem with stuttering and overheating on this laptop.  I had a tech come out to do a complete case replacement on my machine, and while he was in there he had to remove the heat sink - there were SEVERE singe marks on my processor and GPU.  He cleaned them up, replaced the stock grease with some high performance gel and VOILLA - the problem is gone.  Possible that there wasn't enough applied during manufacturing - or not enough...  Either is enough to cause an overheat.  Plus- I'm not sure what grease Dell is using in house - but this tech had some good stuff from www.Microsi.com ...

2. If warranty repair isn't an option, you can try this - If you go in to your advanced power options (inside the power plan options)  -  one possible culprit is the "PCI Express Settings"  -  Make sure "link state power management" under your current plan stays in "MAXIMUM POWER SAVINGS"...  Turning this to moderate, or off causes excessive heat internally while gaming.

3. The cooling design of the new 9530 series of XPS laptops forces air out of the bottom...  Cooling pads push air up on to the bottom of the laptop. - By using a cooling pad with this particular model of laptop is actually counter productive and actually causes the laptop to run hotter...  and once your machine gets in to the 85-90 degree Celsius range...  the GPU starts cutting power to prevent an overheat...

Also, 3D gaming on your lap with this machine is a no no for the same reasons.  The laptop is cooling itself out the bottom.  Make sure it's on a clean, flat surface if you plan on using anything that uses your Nvidia card ...  This will allow the computer to cool itself (which it actually does a fine job of on it's own...)

If you're just watching movies or typing a paper (anything that just uses your integrated graphics) you're probably ok...  just keep this computer off of the bed, or any smothering surface...  remember.  That's where it's trying to send all that heat it's creating.

Cheers.

"Tap" feature on trackpad won't work sometimes (XPS 13)

Sometimes when on my XPS 13, when I try to tap on something  (a link, sentence, etc) on a word page, the trackpad will not recognize my finger and pause for a few seconds. Then I will have to tap again to click on the object that I want to select. Does anyone know why this happens, or has it happened to you? I have all my drivers updated. This has been going on for a couple months now, so I am trying to finally figure it all out.

Temporary battery failure-Flashing orange light

I have a Dell Latitude E6320. ITs my work laptop and I travel a lot with this. I was in a different country and the laptop was charging fine in hotel but when I went on to the office and plugged in for charging , after some time I started getting the flashing orange light (flashes 4 times orange and then white).

Now my battery is not charging any more. Below are the steps I have tried

1) removed battery, held the power button for 30 seconds and connected back. Nothing happens

2) ran diagonists, batter life 76%, no error codes

3) Removed battery and pliugged in without the battery, still the light is flashing

4) Removed my battery and put one of my friends battery , doesnt charge same flashing light. But when my friend inserted my battery into his, it was charging with no problems.

SO now I am scared my lapotp is screwed. Any suggestions to get this thing sorted plzzz....

Laptop not recognized by Resource CD

I just recently reformatted/reinstalled XP on my Inspiron E1505 (which, according to my service tag, is actually a 6400?), and upon trying to use the Resource CD, I found none of the drivers would install. One notification told me that the system is not a recognized Dell device. Why would that happen?

Without that CD (and the reason I can't use it), I'm kind of dead in the water. I have another laptop, but I kind of had plans for the old lappy.

I should note that I have done this before, and never had a problem- aside from having to manually track down a few wayward drivers. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Foreign Battery Replacement, Inspiron 1545

I'm from Russia. I got my laptop at Walmart Galesburg, IL in 2010 when I was an exchange student.

A year ago my battery died, and I considered to get a new one only now.

My question is: does it make any difference for a laptop from which country I purchased a battery? Russia's electricity meter (excuse for my English) is 220V, not 110 as it is in US. If it does, please tell me which battery and AC adapter should I get?

XPS L702S Audio ports break incredibly fast / Harddisk disconnects/ How can I get Dell support?

$

I've had this XPS L702S laptop for almost two years now and have only recently been using the audio ports regularly. Both are have broken down in a matter of 1-2 months though and I have no clue why other than bad hardware quality I suppose. I have tried different audio-jacks as I thought my primary jack was possibly damaging the port, but the ports continue to worsen whatever jack I use. I now have to twist around jacks and pressure them by folding the cables under mouse-mats or against other objects until they are pushed quite heavily into the port for them to get a normal connection and of course this becomes more difficult the longer I use the damaged ports. When you touch the cable or it is moved in any way, the connection worsens or drops and I'm left to fiddle it around again for a minute or so.

Now I've used the ports in a normal fashion and they aren't past the lifecycle you'd expect of a good-quality audio jack for years to come. To give an example, I use the same audio-jacks for my Ipod that is 3 years older and switch jacks with that way more often, yet it doesn't show any signs of damage. It can't be the jacks.

Is this a regular problem with the XPS L702S to have poorly constructed/secured audio-ports? Is there a solution? Because it seems impossible to reach the audio-controller by screwing open the laptop as it only gives access to the hard disks and memory units.

Another problem I'm having is in the connection of my second hard drive, which is slightly off and therefore disconnects shortly after system boot up or after a few minutes of use. I think the problem is the slight amount of extra space the hard disk has through poor construction or wear, as when I screw open the back of the laptop, I can move this second hard disk slightly in way I can't (luckily) with the first.

Both these problems are fairly mechanical/hardware based in nature and I wouldn't post them to this forums if I had other options, but Dell's customer site says my product doesn't include Tech-Support so I have no idea where to turn to (this is weird in the first place, as the laptop is just 2 years old).

Are there any XPS L702S users who have faced/solved the same problems out here? Or any people that know of a way to get in touch with Dell about it?

Dell laptop (Model No P09E) is having issues with the keyboard running button presses

$

My computer currently has Windows 8 installed on it and an external mouse plugged in but no external keyboard. I find sometimes as I am working the keyboard starts doing a key press (without the actual key being pressed). At first I didn't realize the issue. For instance when working in the Management studio the main text window won't let me focus and the windows around the text file (Object Explorer, Output, Dynamic Help) all flicker on and off (the Dynamic Help wasn't open until now). If I switch to another application I am also unable to focus on the text area. Sometime there are key presses but just a couple (ie gh) but not a repeated key. Today when it happened I was able to get it to stop when I pressed other keys (mostly on shift, ctrl, caps lock, tab) though I am not sure which helped. This was only a temporary situation as when I started typing again it would restart. Each time I had to restart my computer to 'fix' it.

I am using this computer after another user (though it was reformatted between me and them using it) and I know he had problems with the keyboard too even though they had an external keyboard plugged in.

Not sure what the issue is. I considered plugging in an external keyboard and turning off the current one but when I go to Device Manager > Keyboards > Standard PS/2 Keyboard > Properties > Driver it doesn't allow me to disable it (as the button is unenabled).

Thanks
