A few days ago my XPS 15 (L502X) started giving an error message on startup and whenever I plug in the charger that reads:

"The AC power adaptor type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and battery will not charge. This problem might be solved by:
- Ensure the plug is inserted completely for best system operation.
- Connect a Dell 130W AC adaptor or higher."

Now I know my adaptor is 130W, so that's not a problem. I've also followed all the suggestions I've found so far, including checking the battery health (it's normal), updating the BIOS and checking to see if the adaptor is damaged (it isn't). So, any suggestions? I'm completely out of ideas!

My mother-in-law has a N5030 laptop and it is not working right. I would like to reformat it but there is not a partitioned drive on it like I think there should be. Should there be a partitioned drive? She has had a lot of trouble with it and I would like yo get it fixed for her. Thanks.

Just got a brand new laptop, Dell Inspiron 11 3137, and updated to windows 8.1. The touchpad does not work properly now; gestures/scrolling/pointer not working. I've spent over 16 hours getting windows 8.1 installed and then troubleshooting this issue. I've contacted Dell; updated the driver from Dell, even tried installing the latest driver from Synaptic. I even tried setting the Synaptic app to run under the windows 8 version. 

Touchpads have been around a long time. It's the last thing I expect not to work properly.

At this point I am ready to send the laptop back and call it quits on windows.

Can anybody help with this?

Hard drive test for my system: inspiron 3521 ends with an error with the message Failed. I have attached a screenshot of the log file output showing SMART Extended Self Test:  Failed.

I have a Dell XPS 13 purchased in January last year. Seemingly without reason my screen has stopped going to sleep when the laptop is closed. This is obviously a major concern for me, especially considering the laptop is not very old at all. Is there anything I can do on the software side of things (i.e. change settings) or is this most likely a hardware problem.

Hi. After some time my laptop started to show message "You battery is bad and can not be charged". I replaced battery with new one. It works well, but I still get the same message. How can I turn it off?

Hi All, Am trying desperately to work out why my laptop give me a fuzzy picture when connected to an external display. I have Windows 7 64 bit with Geforce 540M + Intel HD3000 + all the newest Nvidia and Intel Drivers. I have tried both the HDMI port and the other mini thing next to it (I forget the name), same result. The resolution looks correct, all the settings on my Samsung syncmaster screen are all good (I know this as I also use it with my work laptop). I have tried 3 different cables, and 3 different screens, all give me the same problem. I have tried upgrading to windows 8.1, same result. I was hoping that someone else out there might have had the same problem, and managed to fix it. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Rik

Hai

i have dell inspiron 3521(windows 8 64 bit) i am trying to create factory image with sandisk (cruzer switch) 16gb but it is not detected i have the latest bios version A12 and the backup and recovery version is 1.5.0.0. sandisk is shown as local disk in windows explorer

i have checked the sandisk  forum  and it says Many newer flash drives are now Fixed rather than Removable.  It's due to a new Windows 8 requirement

my question is is it possible to create factory image with fixed drive 

or

please suggest me which brand  and type   (like Transcend, hp, Kingston etc) will be recognized as removeble media by windows 8 to create factory image

Hello there,

I was on my laptop today for a good 2/3 hours while it was charging and decided to run a diagnostics test on the laptop.

It was during this that I received as PSA V4216 failure on the Processor Fan

I ran the tests again and the laptop passed.

I then ran the test again and recieved another failure

I then decided to turn the laptop off for 10 mins and come back. I ran the diagnostics and the laptop passed.

I then had to go out for 4 hours and came back and ran the diagnostics twice. The laptop passed the tests both times.

I just wondered do you feel this was just a random occurance as the laptop was on and charging? The fan hasn't given the impression it is failing, it works when put under any stress and the laptop itself isn't any hotter than normal. I just thought this may be because I was on the laptop a while and running the diagnostics just caused a "failure"

im inspiron 15r se (7520) user.

this machine buil in realtek (Realtek RTL8168/8111 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Adapter (PHY: Realtek RTL8211/8212)  
ethernet adapter.

problem one: sometimes windows can not dedect unplugged ethernet cable. only dedect disonnect/connect when plugged again.

problem two: (important) when machine restarted or cable unplugged after plugged sometimes ethernet can not take ip. im set to 10 mbit mode working or ethernet sign get plug/unplug/plug/unplug message forever.

or im trying unplug-plugs can be fix. or disable enable ethernet. or best one is delete / install ethernet driver again.

im tried all total realtek settings. im tried windows driver. 8.20 8.21 8.22 .... 8.25 all version drivers. im tried 2 different router. im not using dhcp my ip setting static.

its same result on windows 7/8/8.1

The charging light is lighting white and orange and my lap n5110 is not starting using the battery. Moreover, any time I blog it off the lap turned off. can any one help????

I have an Inspiron 15R (5537) that has all the latest drivers with Dell BIOS A01 (Windows 8). I have the options for closing the lid set at "Do Nothing" for both battery and plugged in, however no matter what I try, when the lid is closed I can't get the laptop to wake via USB keyboard or mouse.

Both the keyboard and mouse have the wake option enabled in their hardware settings.  I also have wake from USB enabled in the BIOS.

The interesting thing is that if I put the computer to sleep with the lid open, I can make it wake it from the keyboard or mouse.  But with the lid closed, the only way to wake it up is to open the lid and press the power button.

Anyone know of a fix to this?

Summary:

Lid Open : CAN wake from USB Keyboard/Mouse.

Lid Closed : Won't wake unless I open lid and press power button.

I just bought yesterday the above model. I used also a bluetooth mouse from logitech. However, I face up many disconnections very often (I mean that in one minute three or four times). I tried to update automatically the drivers for bluetooth adapter but it mention that I have the latest drivers. The mouse works properly since I tried it in many other laptops without any issue. Do you have any suggestion?

Hi,

I just bought a new Latitude E6440 Notebook with an i5-4300M and SSD using it with Linux. I noticed that the fan was continuously spinning until I installed the graphics driver from ATI and switched to the Intel GPU.

Now it is off at the beginning but i kicks in when the CPU temperature reaches ~42C relatively loud and cools down the CPU to about 38C. This behavior is very annoying because the fan is switching on and off every few minutes.

I tried to manage the fan via i8k module and fancontrol but there seems to be some control at BIOS level as my settings are always being overridden.

So here my question: Is it possible to change the default cooling behavior of disable the BIOS thermal control completely so I can manage it in software?

I tried the Shift+FN+15324 trick but FN+R does not bring up the menu for me. There is also no option in the BIOS where I can change the fan settings. I am running the latest BIOS A02.

Is there any other trick to manage/disable BIOS fan-control or is it possible to include the setting in the next BIOS release? That would be awesome.

I just bought a dell inspiron 17r(5737)and in the quick start guide it says that the f6 button toggles the backlit keyboard but if i press fn+f6 it doesn't fuction.And i don't see any icon in the f6 button it's just blank

Please help
