Ok so a few days ago my battery icon started flashing while it was plugged in. It was telling me my battery could not be charged. So i ran a hardware scan with my support center and everything checked out ok. So I unplugged my battery and plugged it back in and it is telling me my primary battery model number is non-recommended and cannot provide enough power to run by system on battery mode. tells me to insert a dell battery for the best system operation. Issue is, its the extended life battery i ordered with my laptop when i customized it and it is straight from Dell. So then i restarted my pc, and i get the error stating my battery is temporarily disabled. wait till it has reached operational temperature and try it again (roughly what it said anyways) and my pc is always cool, i always stay conscious of the heat generated with my system.
I owned a dell inspiron 1721 from the day it came out to the day i ordered my xps (roughly november/december 2011) and i never had an issue with my old laptop that has gotten way hotter than my xps has ever been. The only thing i do on my laptop is run matlab for school, use office 2007, play from browser games, once in a while steam games for an hour (with a fan on my laptop and propped up a bit for better cool air flow) and once in a while guild wars 2. I bought this laptop for mild gaming and school work.
i've browsed several forums and discussions that recommended unplugging battery for a while with the system off then trying it again, reinstalling drivers etc, and nothing has been successful. I find it funny how a few months out of warranty my computer takes a crap. I paid for this with my hard earned cash while working at my school, and i still have another year to go and now i am stuck with a laptop shaped desktop that who knows when it will decide it won't work next. I have little money as it is and i barely get by returning to my university each year...there is no way i can afford a new system.
One of my questions are...how can my older Dell still run beautifully with no flaws (gave it to my sister as her xmas gift when i got my new laptop) while my new one takes a crap in less than 1 and a half years, and what are my options now? Is Dell generous enough to work with me on this issue being a student? If this is the "premium" dell quality and I'll be expected to pay full price for repairs, i'm going to say goodbye to dell for good and start looking into just building my own machine for half the cost.
Only good news out of all this is at least it occurred during my finals week -.- my god i don't know what i'd have done had my laptop did this to me while i needed my laptop for chemical engineering lab data collection and analysis in the lab room.
