Battery plugged in, not charging...(found the fix that worked for my Dell Inspiron

Well, the charger is plugged in, but it says not charging. This has happened twice. I would have thought bad battery or bad charger, except luckily the first time it occured right after buying a new hard drive. I did a hard reset on the battery and that worked.

Now, it has happened again. I tried the regular battery reset, but that did not work. I tried uninstalling device and reinstall..did not work either.

Oddly, what did work was the following:

I had about 38% battery left. I unplugged the power cord from both laptop and wall outlet.

I removed the batter. Computer went dead.

I wiped the battery connectors with a clean cloth several times.

I put the batter back in and turned the laptop on with battery only.

I plugged power cord into side of laptop, then into wall outlet.

Immediately, the laptop began charging again!

I am not sure why this worked. Maybe some techy out there may know. When I tried the battery reset, I turned the computer off before taking out the battery. Then took it out. Plugged in laptop with power cord and powered it. Then shut down and placed battery in. I turned back on..but nothing...

It may have to do with having the laptop already on when taking out the battery, or placing back the power cord, or could just be the wiping the battery with cloth????

Studio 1558 black screen

I've posted about this before, but considered it resolved when i ordered a new motherboard.  Here's my issue.

I have a Dell Studio 1558, 6GB Windows 7HP 64bit.  It's out of warranty.  My initial issue was a graphics card failure, as it displayed distorted graphics and eventually just stopped displaying anything.  By distorted I mean, bands of bright colors, checkerboard patterns, randonm characters displayed.  the picture was still bright, so i figured it was the GPU dying.

I have replaced the motherboard and the problem remains.  machine powers up, optical drive and HDD both start up, screen lights, keyboard backlight lights, but nothing is displayed on the screen, no bios, no start-up, no system beep.  i have tried pressing the power button and "d" at the same time and the screen flashes white, then runs through the RGB flashes, so it's not the screen.  I was able to place my HDD in an enclosure and access both partitions from my desktop, so the HDD hasn't failed.

Is there anything else i can do to test it to narrow the problem?

Installed Windows 8 Pro on Dell N7110 need to know how reinstall Windows 7 Home Premium

Hi everyone, this is my first time posting. I did search for answers to my question and I couldn't find anything. I installed Windows 8 Pro on my Dell N7110 laptop, I did not reformat the drive. My wife doesn't like it and I'm also having display issues which i never had until installing windows 8 and i did download the latest display driver. I need to know how to access and reinstall the Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit) that came on my Dell N7110. I know its still on the partition that was originally created by Dell but i can't seem to access it. I entered the advanced boot options (just like pressing F8 on start up)  in windows 8 pro but all it wants to do is restore/recover the windows 8 image. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dell Vostro 1520 New Battery Problem

Hi,

The old battery in my Dell Vostro 1520 died.

I purchased a new one from the market, and plugged it into the laptop.

In the first run, the battery showed 75% remaining.

But whenever I plugged the ac adapter, it showed Charging for the first minute, and then suddenly indicated it is not charging the battery.

So I continued to run the battery without power, and it ran smoothly without any problem until it showed 15% remaining.

I charged the battery for some considerable time, and then powered on the laptop.

To my surprise, I saw that the battery showed 2% remaining and then all of a sudden it fell to 0% remaining.

And then it starts to abruptly shut down whenever I start the laptop.

Can anyone please help me out here?

Please note the battery is  brand new.

Thanks and Regards,

Bhupendra

Dell Inspiron 1564 does not turn on

Hello,

Laptop: Dell Inspiron 1564

OS: WIndows 7 Home

Problem: Does not turn on.

Cause: Was working fine until last night when I shut it down, did not turn on when I tried to turn it on later in the morning. No known cause.

Details:

My laptop does not turn on in anyway - with charger put on or without charger.

It was working fine when I shut it down the other night but when I tried to turn it on in the morning, nothing happened. When I press the power-on button, just battery light (of the 3 lights on laptop) glows for a while and then it goes off as well. Other than that, nothing happens at all. I have tried taking the battery out and putting it in, plugging ang unplugging AC - nothing works.

I left the laptop unattended whole day and when came back, I tried to turn it on and the battery and power lights both glowed this time and continued glowing but screen was blank and no sound nothing happened for a few minutes and then I powered it off. Tried to turn on again, nothing happened, back to old problem as stated earlier i.e. only the battery light glows for a while and then goes off.

Would appreciate if someone can guide on the cause of the problem and how to resolve this.

Regards,

Ali

Weak WiFi connection on Dell Vostro 5470

I've just bought new Dell Vostro 5470 laptop, and it appears that is has a weak WiFi adapter.

I've got a router in another room, and If I have my laptop ahead of me (and a router behind my back)- connection speed goes down from 8 Mbit to 2 Mbit. If I remove myself from the chair it goes up to original 8 Mbit. This doesn't happen using my previous laptop (Lenovo N200) or my smartphone.

If I'm in the same room as the router, I have full speed (8 Mbit).

I did a fresh WIndows 7 install with Dell drivers.

I could buy an USB Wifi adapter with external antenna, but it's not a good solution. And of course I wouldl have 1 USB port always occupied.

Is there any other solution?

Hi all,
I have a Latitude E6420 that won't power up. When I press the power button the laptop starts running but nothing loads on the screen, the fan is spinning at full speed for 10 sec. and then the entire laptop shut down. So far I tested the ram, power brick, and the hdd and they work just fine... Maybe is the motherboard? Or the cpu? Any other suggestions guys?
And since my english is sooo good here's a video of the problem I'm having

Latitude E5530 not booting after BIOS Update..

Hi, Updated Bios to A12 today, the system stated the updated was successful but after it's auto reboot it longer boots. Sad

When you turn the system on the screen stays powered off (nothing on the screen, and no back light). The HD and WiFi lights stay on, the battery light flashes.

I've tried removing the battery and powering with just the mains adapter, I get the same problem.

Please any assistance would be much appreciated.

Latitude E6410 BIOS Upgrade Procedure

$

Morning All:

Hopefully this is in the right forum...

I just received an old E6410 with the A04 BIOS installed...

It looks like this will go up to the A15 BIOS...

When I look at the "instructions" from the A15 BIOS page it states:

Important Information
Notes:
--------
1. Please note that if the A01 BIOS is currently installed on your system you must
first apply the P02 patch (E6410P02.EXE) before upgrading to this BIOS.
2. Please note that if the A08 or before A08 BIOS is currently installed on your system
you must first update to A09 BIOS and then flash to the latest A-rev BIOS.
3. Please note that if the A10 or before A10 BIOS is currently installed on your system
you must first update to A11 BIOS and then flash to the latest A-rev BIOS.

Does this mean that the install order from A04 for this unit is A04 to A09 to A15?

This is kind of confusing when you look at the line below the highlighted text (thanks Dell)...

I would like to do as little flashing as possible to reduce the risk of bricking the unit...

Also what is the general consensus regarding using the windows install for the BIOS versus DOS mode?

I have also seen that some people were having issues upgrading to A10, any comments on that?

Is there a document out in the wild that clearly shows the procedure for upgrading from A04 to A15?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts peeps...

Audio: IDT High Definition Audio CODEC

I bought my computer about a year ago. I played a lot of games (Hitman, Battlefield, Farcry, dishonored and etc.) during this time. Games ran perfectly, no lags, no fps drops. Everything was fine, until summer came. Im not really sure if I did any updates or something, but most of the games started lagging. So I would start playing a game, everything would load fast and smooth, I would play for about 5 minutes and it would start lagging. The FPS would drop, and the sound would start lag as well. Then for 10 seconds it would be normal and would drop again.
Also I've noticed that when I Alt+TAB out of the game, and just do something else, like browse internet, computer would work fine. Also when I alt+tab back to the game it would be normal for few minutes and start lagging again. I have suspicion that it might be overheating problems. I have a cool pad, but it does not matter if use it or not, results are the same.

I cleaned the vent. I ran Dell Diagnostics test (on startup F12) it said everything is fine. Checked my computer for viruses, trojans - it's clean. I did disk defragmentation and repair. I have more than enough space in my HDD.

please help me to fix this
