Hello,

I really like to play games, so I'm very dissapointed because all the time is working "bad" card instead of better Radeon HD 7670M. I try to disable it and all other options I can think about. The result is none. If I disable Intel card my game didn't start at all. If they work both, actually they didn't - only Intel works...Help me please I'm tired and desperate...Sleep

Inspiron N5040 Starts up at 3 AM..NOT Windows Update

I have a N5040 laptop that insists on turning on at 3 AM.  I have done 3 factory resets across 2 hard drives.

I have updated the BIOS as recommended by Dell Support.

Even during the last two Factory Resets I have not enabled Windows Update.  So it's not coming from there.

From a cold position, this laptop turns on at 3 AM no matter what.   No updates done to it at all. The Restore Disks were created in 2012.  So this predates when this began happening. Which was within the last 4 months.  I have been all through the BIOS.  Cannot see anywhere in it that would enable turning on by itself at 3 AM.   Anyone else have this problem?

Full history on this laptop:

*Bought it for my Wife (now you see the importance of fixing this) and after 90 days the hard drive was going out so I replaced it.  Used the factory restore and all had been good.

*Sometime in November 2013 it began turning itself on.  I had been unable to stop to diagnose this till now.

*BIOS update early 2/14 to see if that had anything to do with it.

*have backed up all her information and performed a factory reset/restore.  Wiped out everything.  Like clockwork(Literally) at 3 AM it turns on.

*Scoured the BIOS and cannot find anything to tell it to turn on.

*Second Factory reset/restore, without enabling Windows Update.  Still turns on at 3 AM.

*Put a 3rd hard drive in this, did a Factory reset/restore...still turns on at 3 AM.

Is there some hidden section of the BIOS that can tell this to do this?

Dell XPS m1530, power adapter not recognised.

Dear all.

I've got a Dell XPS m1530 and I've run into a problem that is widely known with this laptop. It refuses to charge my battery because it says that the power supply is not recognised. Well, I've tried the power supply in another Dell and it is fine. I tried out another Dell's power supplies from my friends and they won't work either.

Typically, second suspect is the power board in laptop. However, I've been always gentle with it and even if i wiggle/twist/press the plug it won't charge battery not even for a sec suggesting it's not a loose joint or anything like this.

Third option is that the decoder of power supply signature that is located somewhere in laptop has failed. Do you know where it is located? Is it on motherboard? Whereabouts on motherboard?

Now, a lot of folks downgrade BIOS from A12 to A09 and the laptop gets on with charging as it should. Alas, I've got 8GB of memory that is not supported by BIOS A09. Do you know if BIOS A11 sorts out the problem of charging battery? Dell took it off their site. Does anybody have an executable with BIOS A11 so I can try it out and see if it helps?

The bottom line is I do not want to spend $100 for a new motherboard because the laptop being 6 years old is still perfectly fine apart from this stupid signature receiver which I find a repulsive monopolistic practise. Anyhoo, never mind this, I'm running out of options. I got a temporary external battery charger which works fine, though, this is not the most convenient way of dealing with this problem.

BTW, is Dell prepared to help anybody with this problem? It is a well known issue that lots of folks rage about! I'd hope Dell has some friendly  procedure to deal with this issue and regain frustrated customers?

Thanks for any advices,

Peter

Hi everyone I am new to this forum information tree process so I hope Im in the right place. Lasst night I turned on my Inspiron 5110 and it started up with the dell screen and then went to this screen (text listed Below):

****The last attempt to resume the system from its previous location failed. Attempt to resume again?
****Use the arrow keys to highlight your choice

****Continue with system resume
****Delete restoration data and proceed to system boot menu

At this point everything freezes and I cant make any selections or move anything with the arrow keys. the selection is on "Delete restoration data and proceed to system boot menu"  I have checked the hard drive and removed the cmos battery to reset the default bios and I still get the same screen.  Any  ideas?
Is this mother board a candidate for the re-flow process? or
?

Hi,

I have two Inspiron 1545 computers with the same problem.  They work just fine and then all of a sudden they will come up with error that Hard Drive can't be found(tried to remove and reinstall drive didn't help).  I can reformat drive and reinstall Windows 7 then it will work fine until the next time it decides to do the same thing.  Is there an internal issue with this computer to cause this nightmare?  Really like this little computer and thanks for any feed back I can get.

How far Can I Upgrade the Dell Latitude D800 Processor? Also, Questions about Upgrading the Hard Drive

I want to upgrade the processor for the Dell Latitude D800 laptop, but since it is an older laptop, it might not be compatible with a lot of laptop processors that are being sold today. This laptop is a fantastic laptop that has been here for my needs for about ten years. I really like this laptop and refuse to get a new one, but the processing power on this thing is so darn slow. I would really like to speed it up. What is the fastest processor that I can buy for this laptop? And another thing, would I have to buy an new motherboard to be compatible with the processor? If so, what motherboard would you recommend?

I want to upgrade memory as well. At the moment the hard drive only supports 40GB and I definately want more memory than that! Would I be able to put however much memory I want by buying another new hard drive, or maybe, even possibly, a solid state dirve? Or are there restrictions on how much memory I can add because of the age of the laptop?

Dell Vostro 1400 charging issues

Hello community,

1. My 5 year old Dell Vostro was working like a champ until 2 weeks back. Now, the laptop shuts down unexpectedly even thought batter power is full. Ran some diagnostics and found no issues with battery.

2. While this continued, the laptop stopped charging. When I insert the adapter (Genuine Dell), the light on the adapter turns off. From searching the internet, I am hearing that there could be a short circuit.

Did anybody else face the issue? If so, could you help me on directions to fix this? Or, is this the sad end of my Vostro 1400?

Dell Inspiron 15 7000(7537) WiFi issue

$

Hi,

I purchased  the dell inspiron 7000 laptop last week. It has some issues with wifi connectivity.. Though it gets connected, we can see the signal bar fluctuating randomly and the speed of the interent connection is very slow. I am using the same connection for my phone and also checked it with other laptops and the wifi connection seems to have no problem. The download speed on the laptop shows 0.50mbps, while the download speed on another laptop connected to the same connection at the same time and spot shows 6.8mbps.

I have reported the issue the very next day of my purchase, so far I have not obtained any help from the dell customer support. Finally two days back I got a mail stating that there will be a service engineer visiting me in 2-3 working days. But ironically today I get a call form the customer support and they said the person wont be coming for the next week or so as they do not have the parts available.

Why would you want to change the part  of a brand new laptop which is not even two weeks old????Is this a known issue for this model??

Re-Formating Inspiron 1501 (to clean out)

I want to reformat my Inspiron 1501 (purchase in October of 2007 - Windows XP) to clean out any virus(es).  But I cannot bypass through Ctrl - F11.

After the "Dell" logo intro and pressing down on Ctrl F11, simultaneously, this message screen pops up next:

"WARNING: The battery cannot be identified.
This system will be unable to charge this battery.

Press Any key to continue

Press <F2> 2 times to enter SETUP
Press <F12> and Any Key to enter Boot Menu"

In the past, I had NO problem with the electric plug to charge the battery, daily.  Hardly used my computer on battery usage only.  And managed to log into my computer, wifi, etc, etc.

I want to get rid of this message so I can re-format and use this computer for non-internet usage, only.

Dell Inspiron Fan Problems

$

I have a Dell Inspiron 17R 5721 with Windows 8 (not 8.1). I recently had the hard drive replaced and whenever I try to play a game or use a cpu/gpu intensive program, the fan never kicks in. When I first realized it, I restarted the computer and opened up the bios. Once the bios was loaded the fan immediately kicked in at full speed. I was thinking it might be a problem with Windows 8 because when I tried to use SpeedFan (4.49), it could not recognize the fan. I would like to NOT have to upgrade to Windows 8.1. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Dan
