I have a Dell 1470 and I tried to upgrade my wireless card and now I have no internet. I have even purchased a USB wireless adapter and it does not work.

The adapter and the card are recognized in Device Manager and both are showing installed properly. However, when I go to Network Settings, the wireless card is greyed out and will not enable and the USB adapter is showing Enabled, but is not getting any signal.

I have launched my computer using a Ubuntu disk and he wireless works fine.

What am I missing here??

Hi 

I've just bought a new Dell Inspiron 7000 only to find that the spacebar hardly works unless I press hard in the centre. It's infuriating having to go back over everything I type and insert the missed spaces but it would appear to be a common problem. Is there a fix from Dell other than sending the unit back?

I can only rely on the middle third part of the space bar to work

My daughter gave me her Dell Laptop Inspiron 1520. I want to do a clean installation and start over.

When I put in the installation disc I get a message that reads:

"Your CD/DVD drive during this boot cycle is f:

A Ram disc drive is available for this boot cycle as C: It contains several hard drive setup tools. Please use these tools only  under the direction of Dell Support Staff."

I'm not sure what all  of that means but I need to get past it, so I can delete the partitions, and format the hard drive. Is there a way to get around this to get to the setup for cleaning off the hard drive?

Laptop is on and plugged into the docking station which is "powered".  Connection to monitor / keyboard and mouse is fine, however I'm surprised to see a lower power - plug is soon message.  Isn't docking station supposed to provide power to the laptop?

laptop - inspiron 15z 5523 ultrabook (500GB hdd + 32GB ssd) ..... windows 8.1 pro                                   

issue - when i press shutdown either from charmsbar>settings>options>shutdown or right-click on start button and then choosing shutdown or signin option.................... only the sceen blackout after showing shutting down ........ but power button led, power led, keyboard back led, fan remain ON

i have done a clean install of windows 8.1 after facing this issue but the problem persist ........... also done diagnostics from boot menu (F12).......  every thing seems to be normal............

I offered to fix my friends old laptop, which she said would not turn on. I am completely stumped on what to do to fix it. I have had this problem before on a Toshiba laptop and successfully fixed it, but I cannot for-the-life-of-me figure out what the heck is wrong with this, except for the blinking lights. I know that they indicate a diagnostic error of some sort, but can't figure out which one. I have an old Dell Port Replicator that I used with my old 600M. I have another laptop (non-Dell) now that I use sometimes. I was wondering if I can use this laptop with my old Dell Port Replicator via a USB connection.Can some please advise? Or in other words, does the port replicator only work with Dell laptops that can be docked on it?

Have a dell battery adaptor but my computer isn't recognizing it. It won't charge my battery. It says the battery charging isn't enabled. If I check the bios on booting it says the adaptor is 'unknown'. How does one make the adaptor 'known' and how to enable the battery charging?

Dear Sajutha,

I have just recognized I am suffering with the same issue. I own an i5 E6430 with non -Nvidia card (integrated).

My fan starts to be noisy after 10-20 minutes of usage and keeps going on high RPM. I used to have an E6420 for 2 years it was working smooth and nice. Comparing this new E6430 is much more noisier. What do you think? I have ran the diagnostics as per your previous advise to others.

All passed. degrees:

CPU Thermistor: current 54 C, High: 68 C, Low 48 C

Ambient thermistor: Current 40C, High 43 C, low: 34C

SODIMM thermistor: current 45 C, High 48 C, Low 35C

Processor fan: Current: 2696 RPM, High 2721 RPM, low 0 RPM

These details has been print screened just after the diagnosis test.

I can also send you the photo of the diagnostic if it help. Please could you advise me? I dont want my laptop to have the fan go wrong to early just because its spinning on too hight RPM (for no reason), even when I am only surfing on net it goes noisy!

My Dell studio is not booting. When I press power button, screen remains completely black all the time (BIOS screen does not appear too). Once in a month or two, it suddenly starts and function properly but after shutdown and restart black screen appears again. Following are some of the symptoms I noted.

1) No beep sound

2) Once I press power button, my keyboard lights up. Power switch lights up too. I can hear the sound of fan etc.

3) I have tested with an external monitor. Display appears there. So assuming my graphics card is OK.

4) Pressed 'D' and powered on. Colors are shown properly on LCD panel. So assuming my LCD panel is OK too.

5) Pressed 'Fn' button and powered on. Screen remains black.

6) Once in a while when it starts (or when I connect it with external monitor), I see a few Red and Green vertical lines on screen which gets cleared once windows login screen appears.

Can anyone please suggest what could be the problem? My laptop is out of warranty.

I have an Inspiron 1501, recently the screen began to flicker and go black.  It has now become black and won't recover. By black I mean it appears black, however you can still see it with a flashlight held close. I ran the diagnostics and received one code: 2000-0333  "graphics test timed out waiting for keyboard response". I am using an external monitor and it works fine that way.  Any idea what the problem might be?

Has anyone else experienced boot problems after installing a new SSD into the 7440 ?

Windows installed just fine when they replaced the SSD but it rarely booted up afterwards and now wont do so at all.

Ok, so how loud exactly should the fan on this laptop be when playing games or 3dmark? Because my sounds very loud, almost like a vacuum. It may seem so in comparison to the otherwise soundless experience, so I'm not sure. One odd thing I notice is that the fan during load is almost binary - it's either super loud or not there at all. Very little gradation.

I have just recently received a new XPS 13 with the new haswell i7 processor, 8gb RAM, 256gb ssd, and windows 8.1.

I really like this laptop, but it makes a really bizarre noise. It happens constantly as soon as its powered on, like a high pitched whirring sound from somewhere beneath the keyboard. It also seems pretty inconsistent, like it flickers in frequency, and when you use programs (e.g scroll through webpages) it gets louder.

Can anyone help me with what the issue is here? Any help appreciated.

I have a inkjet printer that won't print until I shutdown. I've tried switching it on and off and deleting the jobs but so far no luck.  I'm running windows 7 on a laptop  It use to work OK but now that I need to print it won't.   .

inspiron 15r n5110 has error code 2000-0151 validation 14392 incorrect status 3E, code refers to flashing the bios, i have the latest bios. pls help thank you

Hello all...

I picked up a really inexpensive E6410 that I intend to play around with.

Is it a 32bit or 64bit?

* Looks to be built sometime in 2010

* No Operating System, Previous O/S was Vista Business Class

* No hard drive

* Machine will boot to BIOS

* Installed Memory is 4Gb with a maximum of 8Gb (according to Dell parts when I search the Service Tag.

My guess is it is a 64bit machine because of the maximum memory of 8Gb

Hi, Im new to the community...in fact my first post tho Im an ol skool Dell user/owner.

Unhappily my Dell XPS14z has had its motherboard fail 15 months after being brought brand new. Im shattered.

This has lead me back to my trusty OLD OLD OLD Dell D630. Ive just rebuilt it & loaded Win7 Ult. The D630 has the wireless 5530 HSPA module in it (3G SIM card fits here)

According to Device Manager I am using Driver version -4.50.6.0, release date -19/12/2008. Using the auto update function from Device Manager I am told I have the most current version of the Driver for the device.

Either way I can not get the computer to use of even recognise the 5530 or the SIM card within. I have removed the SIM card put it in a phone & wifi tethered it to the computer & connected to the net so I know the SIM is fine & that it connects to the net. Ive keep the computer & the tethered phone in the exact same place so I know the SIM gets mobile network coverage there.

So my problem is how can I get the SIM to work whilst its in the computer?

Hope an answer may come from the community for this problem.

I have an Inspiron 14R-5437 (Dell support can PM me for the service tag) that would be great except for two things:

1. It has no backlit keyboard.

2. The screen is WAY too glossy.

Concerning #1, it looks like a backlit keyboard for the 14R N4110 would fit, but I was wondering whether the 14R-5437 (my unit) has the necessary connector for the backlight ribbon cable?
 Alternatively, is there a Dell-specified replacement keyboard that includes a backlight?

(On #2, I guess I have to live with it.)

Hey guys! 

I just received a new laptop. The Latitude 3330. However, it randomly falls into sleep mode. At least every 5 minutes. I have reset it a few times, tried to install some prevent sleep software but none of it seems to work. 

I send an email to dell but did not get any replies yet. 

Does anyone have an idea for what the problem could be and, even better, a solution? :)
