Dell Inspiron n4010 bettery light

0

I've taken good care of this laptop but suddenly a few days ago, it wouldn't turn on. The battery light and the left side by the speaker, would just turn orange. I left it plugged for a few hours but stayed orange. It's been sitting unplugged for a few days and it still wont turn on, and the light has stayed on. I got a new battery last year, and I neverhad any alerts from the computerbefore this happened. Help.

I broke the smartcard reader connector!

Hello everyone,

Being a total klutz, I spilled a couple of drops of onion sauce on the touchpad buttons of my Latitude E6420 last night. So I took off the keyboard to access the front panel (to which the touchpad assembly is affixed) to clean it up. While putting everything back together, I let the keyboard slip, tearing off the flat cable that connects what I believe is the smartcard reader module to the motherboard. (Did I mention that I'm klutzy?)

Apparently, there seems to be no way to replace the module and its cable on their own, as it's glued directly to the front panel - which probably means that the entire panel assembly (touchpad, smartcard module, fingerprint scanner, volume and start buttons...) will need to be replaced. I searched in the parts directory of the Dell site but couldn't find a way to order a replacement.

So, I'm wondering if there's a way to repair the cable itself. I considered welding the two pieces back together, but the insulation seems to be heat-resistant, so I couldn't peel it off with a knife or a heated screwdriver.

Here's the thing, though. I haven't seen any errors in the Device Manager. Since I really never used the smartcard reader, and am unlikely to be using it any time soon, I'm not too worried. So, any suggestions are welcome. I attached some pictures, if that could be of any help.

Thanks in advance,

Shady

Inspiron 1750 shuts down when battery is still 75% charged

Hello,

I replaced my battery about a year ago with a Dell battery and recently it started shutting down when the battery is still showing 75% charged.  I looked for a new BIOS on the Dell website driver updates, but could not find one.  Sometimes when removing and reinserting the AC power supply plug, the front orange light will flash.  If I then reseat the battery the orange light stops and the blue light comes on.

How can I fix this?

thanks

Dell Inspiron 1318 corner of screen overheating.

My old Inspiron 1318 has been great. I just put a new inverter in it for the monitor and it works fine. However, before the old one burnt out I noticed the bottom right corner of my screen was turning black. About a finger nails worth. I figured the monitor was just old and starting to go bad but seeing as 99 percent of the screen was fine i would use it until it went out. The inverter went out first, like I said, and i replaced it. I noticed the same black patch in the bottom right corner again but I touched it and it was really hot. Its right where the wires from the inverter are going into the screen. I'm assuming the problem is a frayed wire that needs to be fixed. But is that possible or do you just have to get a new monitor? Or is there another problem i am missing?

Dell XPS 17 Issues

Hi,

I recently purchased a Dell XPS 17 Laptop from Ebay and mostly it works well, except for a few issues. I assume they are all related, but I don't know enough about computers to know for sure.

The Webcam and Microphone are not being detected, and I also purchased a Microsoft XBox 360 Wired Controller so we can play games together, which is also not being detected by the laptop. The USB port works as the mouse it came with works.

The only thing I can think of that would cause these problems would be that drivers are not working properly, but aside from checking whether the HDD is corrupted, I do not know how to fix the problems.

Any help would be appreciated, even if the only thing we can do is send it somewhere for repairs.

The laptop is a Dell XPS L702X, running Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1, 64Bit.

Any other information required will be provided ASAP.

Thanks,

Sam

I have a Dell 1470 and I tried to upgrade my wireless card and now I have no internet. I have even purchased a USB wireless adapter and it does not work.

The adapter and the card are recognized in Device Manager and both are showing installed properly. However, when I go to Network Settings, the wireless card is greyed out and will not enable and the USB adapter is showing Enabled, but is not getting any signal.

I have launched my computer using a Ubuntu disk and he wireless works fine.

What am I missing here??

Thanks!

Can I upgrade to 1TB hard drive for Studio 1737 laptop?

My Dad's Studio 1737 laptop is nearly full from all the HD videos he takes of his grandson! I'm looking to upgrade his laptop with a 1TB or at least a 750GB internal hard drive. Can I do this? From searching the forums and documentation it seems that there's a limit of 500GB supported for this laptop. Is that true?

The monitor on this laptop does not come up when you turn the computer on.  It just comes to a white screen.  I did hook up an external monitor and it worked fine.  I know there is a cable that needs replaced, just need some info re: part name/number and how to replace it.  Thanks!

Battery LED blinks on and off when the AC adapter is plugged in [ XPS 15 L502x ]

I just recently noticed that when I plug my charger into my laptop, when it charges to about 96%, the battery light blinks on and off.  It does not switch between amber and white, as it would if one of the cells in the battery had failed.  I checked the Windows Mobility Center and noticed that as the battery light blinks, the battery status alternates between, "Plugged in, Charging" and "Plugged in, Not Charging."  Is this normal, or might there be a problem with the AC adapter/motherboard?  I've tried two AC adapters so far, and both had the same problem.

Thanks,

Patrick

EDIT: I'm currently on battery only, and the power level just jumped from 88% down to 7%.  This sounds like a battery problem to me.  Does anyone know for sure?

Dell Inspiron 1720 Power up problems

My brother-in-law's Inspiron 1720 won't power up with the onboard power button (no lights, activity at-all). However it will boot into the media centre using the "home" button next to the power button. I've removed and re-placed the keyboard (which also hosts the power buttons) and no difference.

If I remove the keyboard and plug in the power then the machine boots into the POST complaining about lack of keyboard (funnily!) and then if I put the keyboard back in and cancel POST, it boots to Vista and I can use it. However, after the next power down I have the same problem as the power button doesn't work.

Given that the keyboard works, and I can boot into the media centre, could this just be a keyboard power button problem, and replacing the keyboard would fix it?

Thought I'd ask before purchasing a replacement keyboard....

Thanks

Dave

Inspiron M5030 7 beeps and no boot

Well I guess it is my turn for this issue. I have seen an overabundance of posts about this issue, and that it typically leads back to a motherboard failure. I only use this laptop occasionally, so this issue did not surface for me until now.

I have done all of the recommended tests to remove the battery and power and discharge static. Unfortunately, I still have the same issue. When I turn the power on, there is a black screen and it beeps 7 times. I contacted Dell hopeful that they would want to resolve my issue and stand behind their product. I was very disappointed with the outcome. They said that they would provide me a discounted service of $179, but they would not fix it for free because it was out of warranty. Additionally, she told me that a motherboard and processor are routine failure items on any computer after 2-3 years because of heat. I told her that this is not the case, as my Sony Vaio and HP EliteBook are older and still work just fine. At my large company I work for, they don't even cycle laptops out until the 4 year mark (which is well beyond her quoted lifespan).

I am not normally looking for handouts, but no one expects to buy a computer that only lasts a couple of years. On an issue that is so widely documented they should be willing to fix this free of charge. What is additionally infuriating is that they have fixed other out-of-warranty M5030 computers with the same issue according to posts on this forum, but they will not fix mine. Why the preferential treatment for some and not others?

After speaking with the customer service tech on Monday who also spoke to her supervisor, I decided to fill out a formal Better Business Bureau complaint. I documented web-links of the issue, and was very thorough in my description of the problem. I received a phone call and an email from a member of Dell's executive support team. She was very nice, but told me they will not fix an out of warranty computer for free, even if it is a manufacturing defect. Additionally, she told me that others had not had this issue fixed for free when out of warranty. I tried to reason with her that no one buys a laptop expecting it to only last 2-3 years, and it is deplorable that Dell will not stand behind this product. She refused to budge however, and I was not able to get anywhere on the phone call. I replied to her email today with further evidence of stories where Dell has fixed this even when out of warranty, and I will see what her response is. I told her that if she can not make the decision to fix this, then she needed to pass the email on to a supervisor who can make the decision.

Is there any other number or person I can speak with who can actually take care of this? Dell should have done the right thing and recalled this when they found out there was an issue, and I shouldn't have to fight so hard to get a defective computer fixed.
