Just got a brand new laptop, Dell Inspiron 11 3137, and updated to windows 8.1. The touchpad does not work properly now; gestures/scrolling/pointer not working. I've spent over 16 hours getting windows 8.1 installed and then troubleshooting this issue. I've contacted Dell; updated the driver from Dell, even tried installing the latest driver from Synaptic. I even tried setting the Synaptic app to run under the windows 8 version. 

Touchpads have been around a long time. It's the last thing I expect not to work properly.

At this point I am ready to send the laptop back and call it quits on windows.

Can anybody help with this?

I purchased a new Dell 7000 laptop in November (Win8, upgraded to 8.1).  Because I wasn't paying attention, I didn't realize that it did NOT come with a DVD drive.  OK, so I bought a Dell External Slot load DVD at the end of November.  The first time I used it, I was able to load my important software but due to time constraints, stopped before everything was loaded.  Since then, I have had trouble getting the 7000 to recognize the external drive.  It worked once and then quit again (not recognized).  I tried updating the drivers, reinstalling the drivers, running the troubleshooter, etc, all to no avail.  This past weekend, I tried again and when it still wouldn't recognize the drive, I removed the power/USB cord from the laptop, then from the DVD drive to store it, at which point the drive's plug housing came out along with the connector end.  It will not stay in place when I attempt to fit it back into the drive.

I called Customer Services who sent me to Technical Support.  Technical Support told me it was physical damage and would not be covered.  He would not let me speak to a supervisor.  I called Sales and got the same story...physical damage is not covered.  Nothing could be done.

I'm at my wits' end!  Dell has always provided excellent service and support until today.  Who can I contact to have this resolved or do I just have to eat the (almost) $100 and buy another from some other vendor??

My new XPS 15 L521x (i5, 3230, w7), takes a full minute or more to boot up and at the same time the wifi is off. Then once on, the wifi connects a few second later. Anyone have this issue?

Hey guys, I just bought a brand new Dell Vostro 5470 from a retailer, I figured out about the fingerprint sensor and I've already installed the latest driver for the sensor, but I just can't figure out how I can turn it on and make it work... So please help me guys.

P/S: I did enable the sensor in BIOS and currently have Windows 8 SL on my computer.

I have a Dell Inspiron 14r and for some reason, the laptop will not charge. It is running on a 90W power supply, but says it does not recognize the power adapter type and that it will not charge. However, when I use my roommate's 65W power adapter, it will charge, even though it notifies me that it will charge slower. I don't know what to do, and I've read a few forum posts about this issue. One suggestion was to flash the BIOS, but I am not sure how to go about doing this. Also, I just had the charger port replaced.

I recently bought a Dell Inspiron 15 7537 laptop from Dell website.

After less than a 2 weeks of use, my laptop wasn't booting up at random occasions.

Contacted Dell Technical support and they told me to format the system. I did it twice, but same problem occurs.

They decided to send me the new hard drive for the laptop. Not working after replacing it.

One of the many technical support supervisor decide to send me the new Mother Board. 

Received it 2 days later and obviously laptop is not working. Technician who was working on my laptop said the new Motherboard is defective.

I call Dell technical support again, they said they are going to send me the empty box. They want me to put my laptop in there and send it to them to analyze and fix it.

Like I said earlier, I've used this laptop for less than 2 weeks and I honestly don't understand why I need to go through all this trouble to use my $1000 dollars laptop.

I request technical support supervisor to just send me new laptop and they said they cannot do that.

The reason is because there is high chance of me receiving another defective Inspiron 15 7537 laptop.

3 weeks have been past since I first contacted Dell Technical Support, but the situation got worse than 3 weeks ago.

I've purchased over 10 Dell laptops and numerous desktops for my business but I don't think i'm ever going to purchase any more Dell computers. 

I really hope Dell recognize the situation and do something about it.

Good morning everyone 
I have a Dell XPS 15 - 9530 (Haswell). After 2 months of use, i updated my laptop with the new drivers from Dell website and now i'm facing a problem with the laptop screen. When my laptop goes to sleep mode and when waked up, the screen keep flashing continuously until i shut it down by pressing the power button. I think this is the problem of the software because before the updates with new drivers, there wasn't any problem like that. Any one is having the same problem here and what should i do to solve this problem
I hope that Dell employee can see this problem and do something

I'm currently using my laptop for 2 months and today when I shut down my Dell Inspiron 15 a while ago and open it again after an hour I continuously get this error

After it automatically restart it says

• RECOVERY
• Your PC couldn't start properly

• You'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media. If you don't have an installation media (like a disc or USB devices), contact your system administrator or PC manufacturer.

Hello,

I replaced my battery about a year ago with a Dell battery and recently it started shutting down when the battery is still showing 75% charged.  I looked for a new BIOS on the Dell website driver updates, but could not find one.  Sometimes when removing and reinserting the AC power supply plug, the front orange light will flash.  If I then reseat the battery the orange light stops and the blue light comes on.

How can I fix this?

Looked high and low, asked on DELL chat and was given Dell Part # TWHPT which is just a bay blank.   I am wanting the actual caddy to install a 2nd HDD on the M4800

My Inspiron 3521 laptop got wiped a couple of days ago, I managed to install Windows 8 and my drivers again.. but my recovery partition is gone completely. Is there a way to get the partition back?

My XPS 12 has been having problems with the touchscreen -- as other have reported -- where it will suddenly stop responding to inputs until I restart the PC. It seems as though this is a driver issue.

Also, I think the driver is causing problems when I put my PC in sleep mode (either by shutting the lid or flicking the power switch). When I try to turn the PC back on, instead of going straight to the lock screen, shows the Dell logo and starts booting Windows as if it had been shut down. Occasionally, I also get a blue screen with the following error: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

When I go on the events log, I get warnings like this at times where I'm sleeping and logging in:

• A multi-touch device reported inconsistent contact information.
• The driver \Driver\WudfRd failed to load for the device HID\VID_8087&PID_0A05\7&1953ea41&0&0000.
• Windows failed to resume from hibernate with error status 0xC0000001.
• The previous system shutdown at 01:36:47 on ‎23/‎12/‎2012 was unexpected.
• The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck.  The bugcheck was: 0x00000050 (0xfffff880eb557374, 0x0000000000000000, 0xfffff80065a4d71a, 0x0000000000000002). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 122312-6421-01.
• The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

Quickset64 is causing  a really annoying screen flickering when running windows 8.1 when running on battery. The flickering occurs randomly and also last random times. It works fine on windows 7-8 and i have also tried this on two simmilar laptops.

The only solution is if Dell updates the software for windows 8.1, im wondering if its possible to get in conntact whith the team resposible for Quickset to inform them about the issue or anyone else at Dell?

I just purchased a new Alienware 17 Laptop. Came in 2 days ago, first thing I did with the computer was install steam, skype, and Dota 2. Second time i started dota the computer crashed to a blue screen and then immediately restarted. 2 days later it now has crashed multiple times. Seems to only happen with dota but then again I haven't used the computer much other than to play games. I have updated the video drivers and it still happens. Any suggestions?

Computer specs:

Windows 7

intel i7

graphics: NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 770M with 3GB GDDR5

memory: 16GB DDR3L at 1600MHz (2 x 8G) 

hard drive: 750GB SATA 6Gb/s (7,200 RPM)

 

Computer had this problem only a few hours after I first started it.. only things I had installed or changed was adding Steam/Skype/Dota 2.

I have a Dell Laptop Inspiron E1505.  It has been great for years but this afternoon I shut it down and now it will not start.  It also does not give me the safemode option so Im stuck not being able to load up.  Besides going out and buying a new one, does anybody have an idea I could try?

Has anyone else noticed that with the new touchpad drivers the drag lock feature can't be disabled? You can uncheck it, but it does not take effect. It seems to work on the first try, but subsequent moves do not unlock the drag state

What should be the normal temperature of gt 525m while gaming? Mine is at 87 degrees Celsius!

I was playing Assassin's creed 4 on my dell XPS 15z, it has gt 525m with factory clock settings, i was shocked to see the temperature of the gpu at 87 degrees Celsius. Is it normal?, I am scared that it might burn!. My 15z has completed 2 years and 5 months, I haven't cleaned the cooling system. While idle its around 55 degrees Celsius.

I need to add more RAM and a second internal drive to my 3 week old M4800.  

It came with 8GB RAM and 500GB of rotating rust.  

For the RAM I've ordered Kingston DDR3L PC3-12800 Non-ECC CL9 SODIMM 1.35V Notebook Memory.  The numbers all match what's required but I know that "industry standard" means "partially compatible on alternate Fridays if you're lucky".  How difficult will it be to install?  I've got the PDF manuals.

For the drive, I've ordered a Samsung 840 Pro SATA 6 SSD (7 mm height).  Dell customer support said I could add a 2nd internal SATA III drive as well as an internal MSata (using the empty WLAN slot).  Looking at the manuals I can't see where the SSD could go.  It's  Any hints?
