One of the Ctrl keys on my Inspiron 15z-5523 backlit keyboard has broke and will not remain seated. Are individual keys available? Or will I need to send in the notebook for repair?
thanks

Hi all,
I just got my new XPS 15, amazing laptop but there's 1 big problem,
A high-pitched scratching/screeching noise is produced from the power button area ONLY when the power is plugged in and the battery is fully charged.
I've seen other forums and others have exactly the same problem, Any ideas?
I found this example http://z.mk/e6vq , the power is plugged into the laptop at 6 seconds.
Thanks
Hello All
I took the plunge and updated to windows 8.1 on my XPS 12 last night, the first problem was the right click options missing from the desktop.
this was remedied by updating the drivers for the cypress touchpad. then I discovered no matter what I did the centrino wireless N 6235 card would not enable. so I removed this from the device manager and re-detected in windows this is currently stable however the Dell Support site recommends updating it, so I have downloaded the driver but when I try to install it I am told this cannot be installed on my system?
more annoying than anything is the auto-rotate function on my flip screen isnt working any more....
Any ideas?
I wiped out and reformatted my hard drive. Installed Windows 7 32 bit OS (OEM). with sp1.
Downloaded all updated including Dell System Detect.
Quickset and Media Direct are no longer in system.
Where can I retrieve those programs and install again?
I have had my XPS 12 since November and use it mainly in tablet orientation. This morning, I press the Auto-Rotate button on the side of the machine and find it unresponsive. I know it only works when the device is in tablet mode. There is also a software toggle in Windows 8, which I have resorted to using. I haven't found anybody else with this problem, and I am wondering if it is hardware or software. I think the button used to click, and if it did, mine doesn't anymore when pressed.
Hey guys, I have a problem With my brand New Win8 Inspiron 17R (the model is 5737 according to the OS). I haven't installed much at all, just Winrar and some apps and games, and of course, everything from Windows Update and the Win8.1 OS update.
My problem is that when I leave my PC untouched for maybe 5 minutes, the screen will turn off (which seems normal enough), but when I try to og back to it, it won't turn on.
I try pressing everything on the keyboard, the Power button, touchpad, external mouse etc., but nothing turns it back on. However, when i press a button or move the mouse, the backlights in the keyboard starts to glow, which indicates that it is still on (I can hear the fan as well), but it is not just the screen that is not responding since the LED on the Caps Lock key doesn't lit up when pressed (like it would when the PC is on). Ejecting the CD Rom also Works.
But in the end, the only thing I can do is to force Power off by holding Down the Power button, then restart the Whole thing, which is very frustrating when I'm in the middle of something and everything disappears just because I leave it for a moment.
I can also confirm that it isn't regular standby mode, because it doesn't trigger that before 25 minutes have passed.
Can't this work like a normal Laptop? My old HP just requires a swipe on the mouse or a tap on the keyboard and the screen lits up again.
This is really bothering me and help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance :)
Just recently my screen does not auto rotate with Windows 8.1 installed. The button does not work to unlock the auto rotate. When trying to flip the laptop the screen does not rotate.
Very frustrated as I use this feature very often.
All my drivers are up to date.
I have tried removing all the power sources and holding down the power button but my laptop will not turn on. I have tried many times and it still won't turn on. Please help. I need it for school and I can't do school if I don't have a laptop.
Inspiron 11 touch screen stops working intermittently. Need to restart it. It was upgraded to 8.1. Anyone else having this issue? Is there a fix?
I have an Inspiron M5030 that is having the dreaded 7 beep non-boot error. This model needs to be recalled. The motherboards fail repeatedly. Can someone from Dell help me with this?
Thanks

Friends,
I run a little music school and one of our voice teacher's cat peed on her laptop, totaled it. Someone donated an Inspiron 1100 for her to use, but the hard drive failed. I picked up a HD on ebay for $13. Someone else gave me a windows sp3 system disc, which I installed, also installed the system drivers. I spent the day trying to get it going, need some help.
1. Sp3 seems to work fine, but the Windows window is still a small box floating in the middle of the screen. Is there a problem with running sp3 on the 1100?
2. I am also unable to set up the internet via ethernet cable, the wizard "cannot find" the network hardware. The previous system worked fine, even got the wireless going.
Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks, Kevin
My old Inspiron 1520 seems as if it should be able to be upgraded to Windows 8. The only issue it appears I am going to have is with my graphics card.
My computer has the Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family. Does anyone have any experience with that and Windows 8? I definitely have a fast enough processor, plenty of RAM and hard drive space, so it really seems to be the graphic card that is the only sticking point.
My computer works perfectly fine, so it seems like such a waste to buy a brand new one when XP is no longer supported in April.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks so much for your help and insight!

Hello,
I have 2 Dell XPS L502X's with a Intel Centrino wireless N 1030 card connecting to ATT uverse 2wire router. neither laptop wants to connect to the router for longer than 3 minutes. The adapter then shows there is limited connectivity, then losses all connection. both laptops have been doing this for 2 days now. On the other hand my three android devices have no issues, a Wi-Fi only tablet and two cells.
I have call AT&T and they said there was no problem. When I log into router during the 3 minutes I can see the Wi-Fi connections for everything including the directv. I've tried changing the transmit channel to less populated region, hard resets, and changing the power setting on my laptops wireless adapter.
How do I fix this issue?
I have a M4700 and with a few changes to the BIOS I was up and running with my new msata drive set as the boot drive. Now I have a new M6800 and it is not seen in BIOS. How do I install a msata drive as the OS drive (boot)?
HELP!!!
My wife was surfing the net and watching TV last night when her Inspiron M5030 got the blue screen of death. There have been no other errors or performance issues until now. When she tried to reboot, the laptop just gave 7 loud beeps over and over. Followed the suggestions found elsewhere in this forum, disconnected the power cord, removed battery, held start button down for 30 secs, tried to reboot, but got the same result.
After browsing this forum I've found a lot of people have had the 7 beeps on start up issue with the M5030. I've had really good experience with Dell over the past 8 years, so it's sad to see so many bad comments about them here. In my company, if there's a known problem you just do the right thing, period.
The warranty is up so does anyone have any suggestions??
Thanks,
Jim
My Dell XPS 14 Ultrabook randomly freezes (cursor locks, have to restart with the power key), though I've only had it for about 3 weeks. There is no program that it consistently freezes on, but I think I've narrowed it down to it freezing when it's running on battery power. I tested it for 4 days, only using it when it was connected to an outlet, and I didn't have any problems. Today I tried it out on battery power and it froze up on me 3 separate times.
Of course this could just be coincidence, but I was wondering if anyone else had a similar issue, or if there are any solutions out there. The time intervals between freezing vary and I can't replicate the problem other than disconnecting it from a power source and waiting.
Thanks!
Hi,
I have an Inspiron 15R Touchscreen that I bought in August. I have had a lot of trouble with it. For some reason certain internet pages often do not work on it. Hotmail for one - which is my main email service - usually does not work on my Dell. Occasionally it does - but usually it does not. Facebook works sometimes. Other pages work on and off or freeze up. Of course I realize it would appear that that would be a problem with our ISP - which is what Dell said when I called them- however my husband's HP laptop works just fine. In fact I'm typing on his HP right now, because the Dell customer support website didn't work on my Dell - nor did the troubleshooting options. I don't know what to do with it. I've spoken to Dell about it along with AT&T and had a couple friends who work with computers take a look and so far nothing. I would appreciate any help as it is frustrating to me to have to wait until my husband gets home from work to check email or work on the internet.
Thanks
