Hello world..
I've shrunk the win 8 partition and created an additional partition and named it win 7....All went without a hitch .
I've rebooted from the cdrom drive (with the win 7 disc inserted) and all goes as planned .
I get to the 'install now' screen and accept the eula and select 'custom' installation.
Still OK.
On the next window (where do you want to install windows) i select the partition (named windows 7) and then i click on 'load driver'.....
I am met with a window headed 'load driver' , the contents of the window are as follows.........
'To install the device driver needed to access your hard drive , insert the installation media containing the driver files , then click OK.
NOTE : the installation media can be a floppy disk , cd , dvd , or usb flash drive.'
I've clicked 'next' and 'browse for file' (and looked around) but i cant find any drivers.
The result is a window called 'load driver' stating 'no signed device drivers were found , make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers , and then click OK'
I was told the following ; "You need the sata drivers for the mobo. You should be able to get from manufactures site."
Some googling brought me the following page.........
http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/software-os/f/3524/t/19500097.aspx
I followed the instructions to the letter , now during the installation of window 7 when i am asked to load the drivers (that my 17R SE is lacking) i keep going round and around in circles.
I point the browser to the file (on a usb thumb drive) and the browser finds the file.........But the file fails and I keep going , like I said , in circles.
I want windows 7 on this laptop as the software I want to use is not compatible with windows 8 and there's no telling when , or indeed if , it will ever be supported by 8..
