Latitude E7440 - Loud Processing Noises

$

Hello Community,

2 days ago I was given a new work laptop - the E7440 (its brand new).

Straight away I noticed some loud buzzing noises which a fellow colleague said was the fan. It's quite annoying. I soon noticed however when my laptop was idle these noises would stop, and when I clicked they would start again. Whenever I ask the Laptop to do anything these noises start up, and considering im active on the machine all day - they are giving me a headache.

There are high pitched, buzzing noises. And as mentioned are aligned to when the laptop is processing something. They also make sounds when I scroll the mouse for example.

Whats the issue here? My internal support team said deal with it. Is there an issue with the hardware though? Its brand new.

Cheers,

I got a problem with dell inspiron n5050 with the black screen. When i restart the laptop after installing win 7 and a graphic driver (downloaded from dell website), the screen is black, i guess the laptop is running, however i can't see anything. tried some tricks like removing the battery, running with power cable, pressing the power button for a while, but all in vain.

Thanks for your comments in advance.

Inspiron 1100 Hard Drive upgrade

Hi

I have an old Inspiron 1100 which I'm currently trying to speed up, for use solely to browse the internet. I have already upgraded the RAM from 256mb to 1Gb. I've installed Google Chrome instead of IE. (seems quicker).

Does anyone know what would be the fastest hard drive I could put in it. It currently has a 20gb hard drive, running XP.

purchasing dell warranty

In the near-future, I may purchase a previously-owned Dell XPS 15 L502X.  Can a Dell warranty for a used Dell notebook PC be purchased if it's no longer covered by a Dell warranty?

Thanks,

PG

Inspiron Mouse Button LOUD click

I have a Dell Inspiron 3521 15.6 inch laptop, bought 2-3 months ago.  The mouse button is EXTREMELY LOUD when i click, and its unbearable, so annoying and loud! It makes his practically unable to use in a quiet settings! I'm really fed up with Dell, since there quality seems to be getting cheaper and cheaper! I've had many Dell Computers before with never any issues that were a red flag. Dell, what do you think?

This model is advertised to come with Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-N 7260 2x2 B wireless adapter. I have upgraded the OS to Windows 8.1 and have the latest driver (16.6.0.8). However, I cannot see any 5GHz wifi networks. Does this adapter support 5GHz (I thought it did given the description from Intel) but wanted to check here first.

Administrator Rights - disabled

It seems my administrator rights on my Dell Inspiron 4010 have stopped working even though the account is set up as administrator.  Found out when Netflix quit working and tried to diagnose with Netflix and MSoft.  They said it was a computer problem manufacturer would have to address.  I wonder if it could be a Silverlight problem (or virus/trogan introduced through Silverlight).  Anyone else have such problems.  I can't set up the Dell PC Detect program either since admin rights aren't working.

Overly sensitive touch screen on Dell Precision laptop causing an erratic pointer at Windows 7 logon screen

I have a Dell Precision laptop with a really annoying touch screen. I'm on Windows 7, I disable all pen and touch input because it causes erratic mouse cursor movements (literally jumping ALL over the screen) to the point of being unusable.

The problem is that the Windows 7 logon screen still apparenty has the touch screen active. The cursor goes CRAZY 100% of the time. You have to enter your password FAST or elsewhere the crazy cursor might randomly click somewhere that interrupts your typing.

Yes, I have disabled pen and touch inputs from within Windows 7. However, they don't apply to the logon screen.

I would like very much to disable this annoying touchscreen feature. Too bad my company (probably easily Dell's largest corporate customer) had to pay extra for the display, but oh well. It's a poorly implemented feature that needs to go.

Please provide a better driver, or at least let me know how to disable the touch screen in the BIOS or wherever or even what wires to cut.

XPS 14 Checking Media [Fail]

I have mentioned this problem here: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/software-os/f/4677/p/19537504/20503019.aspx#20503019

But I thought it might be worth posting here, too.

My 10 year old daughter saved her money for 2 years to be able to buy her own laptop for Minecraft.  We received it about two weeks ago.  Today I ran windows update and installed the recommended and optional updates.  While installing the updates, windows said it had encountered an error and needed to restart.  Upon restarting it went into the endless loop mentioned above; "Checking Media - FAIL".  I have found a few other forum topics here and elsewhere online that offer solutions, but I do not have an option to choose Windows Boot Manager, just UEFI Pvl4 and UEFI Pvl6 (or whatever it says).  I am also at a loss as to where to find the serial code to contact Dell Support.  There are no stickers anywhere on the machine.

If this is a hardware issue I assume that this should be covered by the warranty since the machine was purchased 2 weeks ago(?).

I should add that I did the diagnostic and everything appears to be OK.  Any help is most appreciated!

Sudden fps Drop Dell N4110r

I own Dell Inspiron N4110, with i5 2450M @2.50 Ghz, 4GB Ram, Intel HD3000 shared and Radeon HD 6630M dedicated graphic card.

I'm having issue with the gaming performance. It happened when I play Dota 2, an online multiplayer game. I used to play around 2-5 hours per day and used to get smooth 60-65 fps through the entire playing time with maximum video setting. However starting around 1 month ago, the fps started to drop severely after around 40min of play to 20-25 fps, and things gotten worse that now after only 30min of playing, I ultimately got 10-20 fps which forced me to stop the game. The issue hasn't appeared in my other game, though I only have FM14, NDS and PSx emulator, and other little stuff.

When the issue happened and I closed the game, the graphic performance of windows gone too, like when you're not installing graphic driver. There's lag with windows animation and when I tried to play HD movie, it didn't play well. I have no clear idea about this but I suspect that the excessive temp has something to do with this. Because when I let my laptop cools down for 5-10min or restart it, the graphic performance went normal again although then I decided not to play the game again for a session.

I tried temp-checker software and found that during the event, the motherboard's temp is around 65-70'C. I don't know much, is that normal or bad? Also, the software was unable to check the VGA's temp probably because after I updated the driver months ago, the system (dxdiag) became unable to detect the dedicated (the radeon one) card instead showing the shared one (intel), though the driver worked and switched to the dedicated card and my laptop's whole graphic performances was that of that card all the time.

I'd appreciate if anyone can help in any way or has experience with this kind of issue. Thanks

ps: I dont know where to post this issue so I posted in both hardware and video forum. If I broke any forum rules or what just let me know, thanks.

Hello Team,

I have recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 14Z 5423 Laptop.

I'm using this laptop for my personal use and since I'm a network engineer I always have to use Internet and always I use Wi-Fi, however since the day I bought it I'm facing Internet Connection problem. In ever few min the Internet gets disconnect automatically. I have another Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop also, however thats works perfectly.

I saw in forums that this is problem with many customers, its mentioned in the forums that this issue could be because of the McAfee. However I have already re-installed the software still the issue going on.

Currently I'm based in Jakarta, I checked for the customer care number at Dell Indonesia but there is no contact number available at the website.

Can someone resolve my issue, I'm really disappointed with the this kind of bad service from Dell,

Thanks,

Kapil

Dell Inspiron 17 3737 question

Hi ,I recently bought a brand new Dell Inspiron 17 3737 from a shop .I have a concern about the stickers on the laptop ,even though I hate stickers the most important one wich I would have love to have, is missing ,wich is the AMD Graphics sticker .(I have an AMD HD 8870M model) I am concerned about why they didnt put it on,i have the i7 sticker ,ubuntu sticker but not the AMD one. Is it posible that the laptop is fake and not DELL made ?Or they just stopped putting AMD stickers on newer laptops ?

Also what is the maximum temperature wich is OK for the system ? HW monitor says max temp was 85 C both cpu and gpu ,and with a cooling pad it dropped to 80 C during gamming time ,are those temperatures safe playing like 2-3 hours (Crysis 3/BF4/FC3) or it can damage the laptop?

New XPS 13 (9333) Constant Noise

$

I have just recently received a new XPS 13 with the new haswell i7 processor, 8gb RAM, 256gb ssd, and windows 8.1.

I really like this laptop, but it makes a really bizarre noise. It happens constantly as soon as its powered on, like a high pitched whirring sound from somewhere beneath the keyboard. It also seems pretty inconsistent, like it flickers in frequency, and when you use programs (e.g scroll through webpages) it gets louder.

Can anyone help me with what the issue is here? Any help appreciated.

Weird Fan Behavior E6540 (A02 Bios)

$

So after having an issue with my palmrest (you can check my previous posts) and getting a system replacement, I am beginning to notice some weird behavior from the processor fan. It seems to sit at 0 RPM and spin up to ~3.5k RPM seemingly at random. It basically has no correlation with CPU load at the time. It just spins up the fan whenever it wants to. When it does, it spins up for about 23-30 seconds. This obviously creates a distraction in a quiet room. Whats also weird is that sometimes when it starts to spin up, the system will abruptly power down the fan. So instead of spinning up to the speed described earlier in this post (and spinning for 23-30 seconds), the machine just quickly turns it off abruptly (like after 1-2 seconds). Any ideas?

I have run several rounds of the pre-boot diagnostics and everything returns green. Can a Dell representative comment on what the minimum fan speed is for this laptop (besides 0 RPM = off).

Dell Intelligent display cannot be disabled on Vostro 5470

Hello guys, it's my first time to buy a Dell laptop and I'm loving it.

My laptop is Dell's new machine - Vostro 5470.

It was shipped with windows 8 OEM OS but I downgraded it to my own win 7 ultimate with full format.

I've downloaded and installed all compatible driver for this laptop with 7.

I hate the auto-adjustment of screen backlight according to the brightness of the background, so I googled and knew that I can disable Dell Intelligent Display to avoid it.

The problem is, even I unchecked the Dell Intelligent Display in Dell's battery settings, the auto-adjustment kept going on.

I sought through the battery settings of windows and dell but none of them could kill the auto-adjustment.

Is there any other way to kill it?  It's really a stupid design that dims backlight when looking at BLACK pages.  It's all black....
