Inspiron N5010, Windows7 Home Edition
I was getting messages that the battery no had enough power to run the computer, so I bought a new battery. Rayovac, which fits perfecty. I let the battery charge for a few hours then tried to start the computer, still connected to AC power. The computer fails to boot. I got a message as follows:
Windows Boot Manager
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
- Insert you Windows installation disc and restart your computer.
- Chose your language settings, and then click "Next."
- Click "Repair your computer."
If you do not have this disc [and I do not] , contact your system administrator [I guess that's me!] or computer manufacturer for assistance.
Status: OxcOOOOOOe
Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.

I removed the new Rayovac battery and re-inserted the old Dell battery. Same result.
With no battery, same result.
I attached an external USB HDD that is a clone of the internal HDD. This time I got some kind of message, I can't remember the details, with a button about doing a recovery. I choose that, a new screen came up saying it was doing a recovery, it was late so I let it run overnight. This morning, whether I have the USB HDD clone attached or not, the only screen I get when turning on the computer is the one quoted above. No more 'recovery' option.
I know that both the main internal HDD and the USB clone HDD have 'Recovery' partitions, but I've no idea how to use them or if using them is appropriate in this situation.
When I turn on holding the F2 key the internal HDD is listed and properly identified. I'm not familiar with the other things that are listed, but none of them are obviously flagged as having a problem.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
