hi can anyone tell me how to remove the bios password on an XPS 15 L502X? my sister just bought a used one but the owner can't recall the bios password since he did it when it was new and it's been 3 years since. when I press f2 for bios settings it asks to enter password/unlock key and below it says Unlock key hint number 21F1B00C, don't know what that is. Any help is very much appreciated. I can give the service tag if needed. thanks

Laptop not finishing initial power up (POST)
Yesterday, my laptop, a Dell Studio 1457 was working in fine condition. But today when i switched my laptop back on. It wont finish initial power up, blank screen without Dell logo showing up. The laptop then shut down and then started restarting itself and then eventually shutting down again. Don't know what's going on. Don't know what to do. Please help. My laptop's battery expired so it has been running on direct AC power supply. Please help.

Precision M6800 DVD noise or defective DVD drive
Hello Dell,
Got this new Precision M6800 and the DVD drive makes noise for almost every 2-3min but somehow it was solved following the A03 update and UsB 3.0 update. logged to BIOS and confirmed update. The DVD noise was gone but actually went back for 15-25min of use. I was installing different programs for work but DVD installation stopped and can't be read anymore. Is there any other way to fix this?

Battery wont charge since BIOS update
I am running Windows 8 on my XPSL521x. Updated the BIOS from A09 to A15. After the update the battery status says that battery charging is disabled. I do not see an option to enable it.
Under battery health it says the battery is performing normally. I tried two different dell chargers and they both register in BIOS as 90W and charge my other dell laptop.
So I tried flashing the BIOs back to A09 and got an error message saying to reboot, try again, contact tech help, application error return 0x00000207.
Someone recommended that flashing BIOS back would not fix the problem and to replace the communication chip on the battery or charger but they both should be working. I had a similar issue with my last laptop, plugged in not charging, and flashing the BIOS back fixed the problem for several years.
I tried reformatting back to windows 7 with a dvd and it said that files are missing on my computer and I need to use a recovery disk. All I have is the windows 7 dvd.
What should I do to enable battery charging?

7720 R17 SE 650m DDR5 GPU stuck at 745 (Fixed)
So, I've did A LOT of reading about this and I've noticed that a lot of people are having EXACTLY the same issue
The 7720 R17 SE 650m DDR5 GPU LOCKS ITSELF at 745 which is caused by a glitch.
"Starting from a normal state, with GPU boosting to 835 MHz:
I then unplug the laptop and rerun cinebench:
I then plug the laptop back in and try again:
So now 2 minutes later and despite being plugged in, the GPU is only getting up to 745 MHz. So, I shut the computer down fully and turn back on:
Despite the full shutdown, the GPU still will not boost back to 835, and is still stuck at 745 MHz."
This dooms majority of 7720 laptops, mine did the same for a while but then I swapped out my secondary HDD and Nvidia released the new drivers which seemed to fix the problem but then by accident I plugged out the charger from the laptop was I was playing AND BAM
The GPU is stuck at 745m again, tried a full restart failed, tried a clean driver installation nothing.
So I'd like you to tell me how to fix this glitch, from what I assume the system doesn't fully recognise the fact that the power is plugged in probably something to do with the bios.
HOW TO FIX (Spent more time searching and found an old forum thread):
Turn off the laptop, unplug, take out the battery, wait 10 seconds plug it all back in and turn it back on.

Dell XPS 15 l501x doesn't not always see new hard drive after shut down
Hi, I replaced a bad hard drive on my Dell XPS 15 l501x with a brand new WD Black 750GB I bought from Dell. I reinstalled the os from the recovery discs. Laptop has been since working perfect, except!
Now when I power up the computer from a cold start it does not see the Hard drive, instead goes all the way to the net boot option and hangs there. The interesting thing is that if I select boot options F12 on Power up, and then select the hard drive it works fine. The drive is set to ahci in Bios. I also tried updating the bios to the most recent version, but the same happens.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a Inspiron 17r Laptop and every time I am typing it will go back to the first part of the sentence I typed. I thought it was my hand touching the touch pad but that is not the case. It is very annoying when I have to go back and delete what I wrote because it will not stay in the write spot.

Dell Inspiron 15 7000(7537) WiFi issue
Hi,
I purchased the dell inspiron 7000 laptop last week. It has some issues with wifi connectivity.. Though it gets connected, we can see the signal bar fluctuating randomly and the speed of the interent connection is very slow. I am using the same connection for my phone and also checked it with other laptops and the wifi connection seems to have no problem. The download speed on the laptop shows 0.50mbps, while the download speed on another laptop connected to the same connection at the same time and spot shows 6.8mbps.
I have reported the issue the very next day of my purchase, so far I have not obtained any help from the dell customer support. Finally two days back I got a mail stating that there will be a service engineer visiting me in 2-3 working days. But ironically today I get a call form the customer support and they said the person wont be coming for the next week or so as they do not have the parts available.
Why would you want to change the part of a brand new laptop which is not even two weeks old????Is this a known issue for this model??

There is another number written directly on the motherboard saying 48.4HH01.011. What is that. Is it enough that these numbers match?

DELL E6410 Touchpad goes crazy
My DELL E6410 touchpad has started going crazy recently. Some observations mentioned below:-
1 - The mouse is erratic moving automatically and suddenly after 30 minutes, it works perfectly fine for couple of hrs..
2- problem reoccurs suddenly and disabling touchpad does not help so external mouse is not an option
3-When i lift my laptop or press nearby the touchpad, the mouse automatically starts moving
Now since the touchpad works fine for hours , i dont think it is a hardware issue. I believe may be some update but i have installed all the drivers.May be some connection is lose ?
Please advise as the problem is really troubling me a lot !!!!!

Inspiron 5520 HDD failure during warranty period but now it's out of warranty
Helping out some seniors from church. She bought this laptop in December 2013, and on Jan 4th, 2014, the hdd crashes. I have followed all the instructions from Dell support to check this out and try and repair - all to no avail. BIOS does not recognize the HDD; the Dell troubleshooting utility says there are no problems, but THE HDD IS NOT FOUND!!! So I try and reseat the HDD - nothing, nada, zilch. Still can't be seen. I remove it and try to see if I can read it using a SATA USB dock - again, nothing. It can't be read.
Now for the real frustration. The 1 year warranty expired on 1/8/2014. They didn't know what to do, called me, and of course I picked it up on the 8th.
I've owned many dells in the last 15 years, but this is insane. I WON'T pay for a call to have Dell techs walk me through all the steps - the frickin' hdd is shot. So they will tell me, thank you for your CC #, but the unit is out of warranty. C'mon Dell, this is not right.
I'm looking for some common sense reasoning here...I just need a new hdd and a DVD copy of the W8 OS...that's all. The thing failed during the warranty period, albeit by days. The fact I got it on the day the warranty expired is not anyone's fault. Two retired folks who bought Dell based on their reputation...please...I need to hear the voice of reason.

Studio XPS 13 Heat
OK how hot does your Studio XPS 13 get????? I used to have an Inspiron 8600, it would get warm. My brother has a Latitude D630 and it gets warmer than my old inspiron 8600, and we also have an Inspiron 1501 and that gets hot, but non of them get nearly as hot at my New Studio XPS 13.... I am just wondering if this laptop os suppose to get so hot or is there something wrong??? Is there a way to change the fan settings to keep it cooler???

Key Board Issue for Dell Inspiron 15
Hi,
I am using DELL INspiron 15 ci3(3rd generation 1.8gHz) 500 GDD GB 4 GB RAM WIndows 8.
I have problem with few keys. It works fine and suddenly the keypads changes its functionality. for example shift + 2 suppose to give @ but it gives Double Quote instead ie ". Same with shift + ' gives @. And its same with other keys too.
