Hi,

Dell XPS 15 9530 brand new (Dec 13) - SSD reports latency around 30ms with minimal activity - slow performance all round.

Does not appear to be any sort of firmware updates for this drive.

Samsung software does not run against OEM drive.

Any ideas why such high latency when no I/O on drive?

Thanks
Matthew

I had this PC for roughly 5 years and it has run like  clock; out of nowhere the cooling fan has gotten loud.

Anyway to fix this or is this a sign of bigger problems to come?

thanks for any help.

Dell Latitude E6540 Fingerprint Scanner ERROR

Hi, I have just received my new Lat E6540 (first ever DELL Laptop) and straight off the bat am having problems with the Fingerprint Scanner wich was one of the major selling points for me.

Every time I try to manage my fingerprint data i get an error message window with the heading "BrcmFMA.exe - Ordinal Not Found" and the text content of "The ordinal 6759 could not be located in the dynamic link library mfc90u.dll."

This is very disappointing considering this is a brand new laptop on it's first startup.

Clearly not tested before dispatch...

Inspirion 17-5720 - Win 7 Prem. - Randomly goes into sleep mode / can't turn on touchpad

I had hoped installing new drivers for my laptop would cure the problem but it hasn't.

My laptop will randomly go into sleep mode, whenever I type really fast, I don't know if its some type of keystroke that does it.

I've set all the settings to not go into sleep mode, but I can't stop it from happening. As I posted this, it went into sleep mode. How can I stop it? I notice that it happens when I'm pressing "W" "R" "S" with either Shift or Ctrl key, or when I'm typing really fast.

Also, I can't activate/turn on my mouse touch pad. I go into Windows Mobility, and "turn on" the touch pad, but nothing happens.

silly question but does the alien 18 that cost $5000 come with a dvd drive?

Dell Inspiron 14R not switching on

My Dell Inspiron14R, which was in perfect condition suddenly switched off while  was using it.

When i tried to switch it on, the power button was lit for a second before it went off again. When I tried switching it on for 4-5 times continuously, the laptop started making beeping sounds.

I removed the battery, connected it to power supply with charger and tried to switch it on, but still the same problem.

Can anyone suggest what the problem might be? Any possible solutions?

Thanks

XPS M1330 Windows 8.1 Drivers

Hello Dell,

When will you be releasing drivers for the XPS M1330 specifically for the following operating systems:

Windows 8.1 64 Bit

Windows 7 64 Bit

Before you state this laptop is too old, it it quite capable of running this type of software, it just has a few driver related shortcomings such as inability to wake up wireless after sleep.hibernate and loss of 2 finger scroll on track pad.

Thanks

Jules

New XPS 13 (9333) Constant Noise

I have just recently received a new XPS 13 with the new haswell i7 processor, 8gb RAM, 256gb ssd, and windows 8.1.

I really like this laptop, but it makes a really bizarre noise. It happens constantly as soon as its powered on, like a high pitched whirring sound from somewhere beneath the keyboard. It also seems pretty inconsistent, like it flickers in frequency, and when you use programs (e.g scroll through webpages) it gets louder.

Can anyone help me with what the issue is here? Any help appreciated.

Inspiron behaving oddly

System Specs: Inspiron 17R Running Windows 8. 8GB RAM; Installed software: Office 365. Adobe Creative Suite - Just Photoshop at the moment; i-Tunes Player; Rhapsody Music Player;

The last few days my system has been slowing down dramatically. In addition I've noticed some odd behaviors: dialog boxes don't respond to mouse clicks (I have the touchpad turned off); audio skips - think old type vinyl with scratches; I type faster in Word than system can show characters on monitor screen (I don't type that fast!); Apps are slow to open or don't open at all.

What I've tried: Ran Malware bites scan (found a few minor things which were removed); ran Bit Defender deep scan (identified nothing); ran defrag (system reported it did not need defrag, but I ran it anyway)  Refreshing system. Restoring to factory settings and reinstalling post factory software. (Only Office 365 and Photoshop are currently installed). Running Dell diagnostics - which reports no errors found.

So...after all of this I'm left confused and unsure what else to try. I;m suspicious that the issue is software, not hardware, but I don't have enough knowledge to be certain. However, because much of this began following an update to Bit Defender, I'm wondering if that is the culprit. But, here's the issue: I went through the prescribed steps (prescribed by the techs at Bit Defender) to identify and repair any errors in their program.  If you are not familiar with that security software: there are several modules and you disable each module, reboot and then open each module separately in an effort to determine if that module is creating problems. I did all of this - twice. In a state of absolute frustration, I completely disabled Bit Defender, rebooted, went online and found that my surf speed was vastly increased. I also found that most of the issues disappeared. However, when I reported this to the folks at Bit Defender, they claim the issue is most likely a hardware issue. [FYI - if you are not a techie you might find the support at Bit Defender more than somewhat lacking] My question: does this sound like hardware or software? If hardware, what should I be checking? If software, does my theory about Bit Defender hold water? I know this forum is about hardware and Dell issues, but I also know there are some tech savvy folks here who just might be able to help me. If so, I will be very grateful. Thanks for reading all of this and if I've left out some vital info, please let me know.

Has someone noticed ghost images (screen burn-in) on Dell XPS 12 Duo?

I recently noticed ghost images on my Dell XPS 12 Duo. If a bright image on dark background stays on the screen for a couple of minutes and then I switch to somewhat dark background I can clearly see the previous image on the screen for some time before it fades away. Once I noticed it I started spotting even more subtle ghost images. I even managed to capture it in a picture with a low-end digital camera - http://imgur.com/a/RIYff (notice the tray icons clearly seen in the Win 8 start screen and even the facebook ad is visible). It is far more clear when you look at the actual screen and not on a picture. I already arranged replacement laptop (as I had other issues with this one) but yesterday I read news about mass defects in Apple's Retina MacBooks ( http://www.ibtimes.com/print/macbook-pro-retina-display-problems-apple-faces-class-action-suit-ghosting-issue-1129939 ) with practically the same issue. Now I wonder if it is possible that all Dell XPS 12 Duo screens have this problem.

So anyone else seeing this on his machine?

DVD/CD ROM drive isn't recognizing movies and CD's

Hello,

My Dell Studio 17"  (1745 model) is not working properly with the DVD/CD DRIVE. I tried to 'reinstall the driver' but I got a message that said 'there is a problem with the driver for Optiarc DVD/RW 7640s'.  Troubleshooting was unable to fix this issue.  When I click on the Optiarc DVD/RW in the device manager section,  it says 'windows can not load the device driver for this hardware'.  The drive may be corrupted or missing (code39).   I tried reinstalling but troubleshooting was unable fix the problem!  Anyone have any ideas how I can fix this.  The DVD's go in but I can't eject because it's not detecting a disc.  Any info would be appreciated and helpful!  Thank you

Endless Self Repair Cycle (Details within)

So on boxing day I managed to buy the Dell Inspiron 15R 5521, however just a few days ago I was simply streaming some youtube videos and the entire laptop froze. I couldn't access Win8's home screen, switch apps, nothing (but the mouse cursor was working fine).

Upon restarting the laptop, the Dell icon displayed as normal, however it ran the self repair and when that was done it only progressed to a black screen with nothing on it. After searching the internet for similar cases, I had found one (http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/p/19520240/20428388.aspx). This thread details the exact same problem I have and the same error code as well 2000-0151. However, this occured after Window's 8.1 finished installing (though I doubt that has anything to do with the driver crashing).

So my questions are: 1) Do I have to replace the driver now?

2) If so, where do I go to do that

3) Will warranty cover that? If not, how much would it cost to get the part and replace it?

Thanks so much guys.

Missing BIOS activation menu for enabling backlit keyboard on latitude 6420

Hi,

I bought a backlit keyboard for my latitude 6420 which was only equiped with a non backlit model at the time I got it.

When hitting Fn + >, nothing happens. I read many things on the web and it looks like we have to go into the BIOS and enable the backlit. I've been told that I should find the menu under System configuration and Keyboard Illumination but I don't have this menu...

I also had a look and the hot keys and don't have the ones related to the backlit keyboard... Looking at the Control Panel, Keyboard Properties, I don't have the Backlight tab, "Keyboard Brightness".
Does someone know how I can enable my backlit keyboard and have it detected as such?

Prior buying the backlit keyboard, I got in touch with the Dell support to make sure I can upgrade my notebook with a backlit model without facing compatibility issues. They told me that I just needed to order the backlit model as a spare part and it will work... but it doesn't...

Does somebody know how I can get the backlit keyboard working or is it just a bad luck and it will never work? thanks in advance for your help!

XPS 14 L421x won't pass the dell logo screen (no ambar light)

Hi, I just bought two XPS 14 L421x ultrabooks, after starting them for the first time a filling all the info for Windows 8 I got the laptop working, did nothing much but just look at the windows 8 mainscreen and powered off. The day after I when I turned them on (one is mine and the other is my wife's laptop) the light up (keyboard), get the white light in front (below the mousepad) and the dell logo on the screen and that's it, nothing else happens. And ran the diagnostics tool (F12) on both and the results is 0 errors, everything is ok. I loaded the optimized setting on the bios. Still the same on both laptops. I'm sending them back to Dell, this is a joke. Unless there is a solution I can do myself.
