Inspiron 7737 (17 7000) sleep mode problem

I purchased a Inspiron 17 7000 (7737) with Windows 8.0.

I changed the hard drive for a Crucial M500 900gigs and installed Windows 8.1 Pro. I installed all Dell drivers for 8.1 and I don't have any unknown devices.

My problem is one the laptop goes in sleep mode, I can't allways wake it up. Moving Wireless mouse or touching keyboard or mouse pad, or power button doesn't wake it up. Other times, just moving the mouse works well.

I  changed power setting to not go into sleep mode, only turn off the screen, but it happened again.

I know that Microsoft Update is proposing a new driver for the nvidia 750, but not sure if I should install it.

Any ideas why such high latency when no I/O on drive?

Thanks

Inspiron 5720 will not boot after Dell logo

I know this has been discussed before, trust me I've read EVERYTHING pertaining to this topic. I have tried everything to no avail.

My Inspiron 5720 boots only to the Dell logo and then goes to a black screen.

I have - removed/reinstalled the battery.

          - run the ePSA diagnostics, the long version - all tests passed

           - reseated the memory

        - formatted a USB drive ( following bootdisk.com instructions as suggested by Dell) with the appropriate BIOS update for Inspiron 5720 and tried to change the boot mode but the USB drive is not recognized. I tried to "add a boot mode" and I can add the name  but I cannot scroll down to add the file name nor can I scroll down to click the yes or no. I can't run anything from the cd drive either. I was just trying to see if the Dell utilizes cd would load ... And it won't.

The laptop has Windows 8 that was factory installed so I do not have a cd/ DVD of windows. I have not updated to Windows 8.1

I thought Windows Vista had pushed me over the edge and I swore that I'd never own another Windows product , but my husband bought this

Laptop for me as a gift - for Christmas last year so, yes the warranty expired 3 weeks ago!!

Does anyone haveany other suggestions or at least help me figure out why the USB does not show up?

It seems so ironic to be using my trusty OLD Apple iPad to be diagnosing my much NEWER Windows laptop!

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Failue to power on when plugged into AC adapter?

$

I am running Windows 8 on an Inspiron 5537. I have two different AC power adapters that both seem to work fine on other computers, so I'm pretty confident those aren't the problem.

My laptop does not power up if it has been plugged in tyo the AC adapter for a certain amount of time (the period of time depends on the charge of the battery before. I imagine this only happens when the battery is fully charged, and it is plugged in. Pressing the power button does absolutely nothing, and the laptop cannot be powered on until I unplug the adapter from the computer.

The computer will also power off if it stays asleep for awhile, and then fail to power on as if it was turned off and behaves as described above.

The strange thing about this problem is that unplugging the AC power adapter from the power outlet on the wall, or turning off the extension cord the adapter is plugged into, does not solve the problem. In order to turn the computer back on, the adapter end that is plugged in to the computer must be unplugged.

Due to the odd nature of this problem I assumed it was a power port or battery problem, which is probably something than cannot be solved remotely. If I needed to send my laptop in to Dell, how would I go about arranging that?

Thanks for the help. I hope this post disproves the Dell stereotype of bad customer service.

Precision M6500 Heat & Shutdown Problem

$

My M6500 Precision has a serious heat problem.... a few things happening:

  1. Many times when Windows 7 does updates when I'm shutting down for the night, then the next day I turn it on, some of the updates are initiating. But the fans are going like a bat out of hell and the CPU's are going full on and the heat gets way up there into the 90*C range.
  2. Recently, after the system is in sleep, and turn the sytem back on, it shows a message about heat and it did a shutdown. After the system is testing itself, it doesn't finish and it does an emergency shut down.
  3. Doesn't take much to get the fans going like crazy and for a long time now, the back of the laptop is extremely hot and never cools down.
Call me crazy, but it started to do this in the last 8 months, but unfortunately, with the current heat issues I'm experiencing now, it's shutting down often from heat. I also notice svhost is running several instances, one in particular is a system svhost at 210K or more in size....and this isn't even when I started to do anything.
The other unfortunate thing is that this system is 3+ years old now and the support package is done.
Any ideas?
The system is:

RAM: 8 GB

No screen after resume from Sleep, XPS 12 9Q33

Just revived my new XPS 12 Haswell system on Saturday. Noticed a problem when the system went to sleep. After I try to turn on the system only the backlight keys come on and a steady on light on the power switch, no screen. The laptop will not show a display after it resumes from sleep. So in regular use I am unable to use the power switch to put the system down or close the lid. I loose anything I am working on because I have to hold the power switch to do a cold boot.

I thought maybe I did something funky in the settings without noticing. So since I just got the machine I did the full restore, wipe and re-install option provided at boot. System did a wipe and re-installed windows. Same behavior :/

Is anyone else having this issue....

My best,

David

Inspiron 5537 100% HDD usage

$

Hi,

I have a 2 months old Inspiron 5537, with which I have problems ever since buying it.

After booting into Windows (7 or 8.1, the same happens), my HDD works on 100% from 5 to even 20(!) minutes, leaving the notebook unuseable for that time. This only happens after installing Dell drivers (even after a clean Windows reinstall, when only Dell drivers are installed yet), tried some uninstalls/reinstalls, nothing worked. On any Linux distro, or without Dell drivers, the problem is not present.

Please help!

Thanks in advance,
Gabe Gray

xps 12 (haswell) won't wake up after going to sleep

My new laptop will not wake when it has gone to sleep.

Neither the keyboard, touchpad, screen or the power button will pull it from its slumber.

The fan starts, the light on the keyboard comes on, but it will never resume.

I have to turn ut off by holding "down" the power button for 10 secs, wait a bit, and then turn it on again.

I found a hint somewhere else that the bug could be related to Intel smart start. I disabled it in the bios, and now the computer resumes like expected.

However after boot up I get an error saying that "it seems smart start has been disabled" or something like that.

Is there a bios fix for this in the works? Or am I the only one with this problem?

Inspiron 15z-4801SLV > SSD Question

$

Hello!

I just purchased an Inspiron 15z-4801SLV Win8 laptop from Best Buy that was refurbished by  it's Geek Squad. I have upgraded to Win8.1

I have questions about the 32 GB SSD:

  • Under Disk Mangement (for some reason) the SSD shows as "Not Initialized". -- Should I format this SSD using MBR or GPT?  (Fwiw, the default choice seems to be GPT.)

  • Is there anything else I need to do in order to get the SSD working exactly as Dell intended it to work? For example, do I need to tell my computer how to use it?

  • Because it's only 32 GB, I assume that  this SSD is  intended to be used as a "Cache" and not as a boot dirve with Win8 installed on it. - Is this correct?

Thanks for any assistance,

Dave

where are the laptop camera drivers? I have just changed 29 laptops hard drives to SSDs of which 23 have cameras. They range from E6510s to M4700s. I have found firmware updates but that's all they are. I have installed 64 bit Windows 7 Professional on all. I looked for a search on the site and found none.

WiFi connectivity issues

$

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 N5050 Windows 7 Intel laptop that is a year and a half old.  I wasn't having any issues with it until about two days ago.  Now every time I wake it up, it won't connect to the WiFi unless I open the connection center and troubleshoot it.  It doesn't have to find an issue, actually it has yet to find a problem beyond resetting the router, which isn't having any issues with anything else in the house (PS3, smart phone, desktop).  I just have to start the troubleshooting process and then it will find our router again.  But until then, it will show up as no connections available.

I ran the antivirus just in case that was the problem and it came back with nothing.  I cannot figure out what is wrong or how to fix it.  Previously it would instantly connect to the internet and now it isn't even trying.

My husband is an IT person, so you can pretty much ask me to do just about anything and I can try it out.  I do not want to reformat the laptop, again.  This laptop was used at work at a state college and every time I connected to the WiFi on campus, it got a virus, so it's been reformatted twice now.  But both of those times, the antivirus came back with a lot of Trojans.  It has not been connected to the WiFi since the last time it was reformatted, only my personal router and my in-laws router and a hotel router, but the issue has started well after using those.
