I know this has been discussed before, trust me I've read EVERYTHING pertaining to this topic. I have tried everything to no avail.
My Inspiron 5720 boots only to the Dell logo and then goes to a black screen.
I have - removed/reinstalled the battery.
- run the ePSA diagnostics, the long version - all tests passed
- reseated the memory
- formatted a USB drive ( following bootdisk.com instructions as suggested by Dell) with the appropriate BIOS update for Inspiron 5720 and tried to change the boot mode but the USB drive is not recognized. I tried to "add a boot mode" and I can add the name but I cannot scroll down to add the file name nor can I scroll down to click the yes or no. I can't run anything from the cd drive either. I was just trying to see if the Dell utilizes cd would load ... And it won't.
The laptop has Windows 8 that was factory installed so I do not have a cd/ DVD of windows. I have not updated to Windows 8.1
I thought Windows Vista had pushed me over the edge and I swore that I'd never own another Windows product , but my husband bought this
Laptop for me as a gift - for Christmas last year so, yes the warranty expired 3 weeks ago!!
Does anyone haveany other suggestions or at least help me figure out why the USB does not show up?
It seems so ironic to be using my trusty OLD Apple iPad to be diagnosing my much NEWER Windows laptop!
Thanks for any help you can provide!
