XPS L502X BIOS password

Hi, all

I have an old XPS (2011) as described in the title and I need help with the bios password. My laptop have been poor on performance sometimes and I found out that disabling Intel Speedstep in the BIOS might increase overall performance. Thing is I had some problems with this laptop before, with the warranty already expired and I took it to repair in some shops, but one of them set a bios password and I cannot access bios setup. This has been a while and I didn't need to enter setup since then, so I let it go. But now i'm desperately needing to access and i have no ideia of what the password could be. I have even contacted Dell by phone, but they said as the system is more than 5 years old "they don't have the system's data anymore and can't help". So I'm coming here to ask you, is there anyway I can still access my bios setup without a motherboard replacement?

Wifi connection dropping every 5seconds or so

Hello all,

Recently my Laptop connexion in wifi just got worse and worse in just a few days. I have no idea why.

First off : my router is fine, my others devices have their usual connection and it is stable (even others wifi devices). I've tried pluging an ethernet cable and the issue was here too so I'm pretty sure it comes from my computer.
I've ran Malwarebyte twice now, full scan with AVG and nothing came out. Drivers are up to date but I've tried to go to the constructor site (Atheros) to get some OG drivers but I couldn't find the ones for my Dell Wireless 1515 n adaptater. Driver wise I've tried uninstalling my wireless thingy but to no sucess either.

The problem is really strange, when I got to site to check my internet speed, the connexion appear as it should be then drops to 0 in matters of seconds. Windows does not detect any problem with my connection either at any time.

I've also tried : installing no coin ; repairing firefox ; resetting router (who has a fix canal of transmission and is not on auto) ; turning off mac filter and differents securities on the Wifi (WPA and WPA2) I would have used resore point of windows but for some reason there was non available from before the bug arrived.

Internet explorer won't even load some sites (straight up to "we can't load that page) whereas firefox still tries (and never suceed or barely in some cases)

I'm in a house so security of the router is ok (and I got WPA and mac filter)
I'm under Windows Vista, the laptop is Inspiron 1750.

Anyone having a clue to what is happening here? thank you for your time

New laptop system taking up 32 GB?

So I just got a new Dell for Christmas with windows 10 and I noticed that system files alone take up almost 32 GB I don't think it's meant to do this is it?

I updated to Creators Fall (it came with Creators) and even deleted the old file of windows 10 but still 32 it was 64 with the old folder.

So is 32 normal for Dell System files on a new laptop? Or is something wrong? My laptop also does not have a D (Recovery) drive and is a touch screen as well.

so my dc power jack has been unplugged from the motherboard. I am not familiar with software and technology so excuse my language. From what I understand, the white part is supposed to be "plugged in" to a socket, which has the reciprecal contents (power source?) but when I do that, I am not sure why it is still lose. Would it be easier to send it in for service? or cut the wires for the jack (meaning it could be a different problem?) I would appretiate any advice.

Dell XPS 9650 + TB16 DOCK

Hi all!

Recently we bought a QNAP TS-453BT3.
This device functions as a NAS with two Thunderbolt 3 ports,  two computers can access simultaneously at high-speed. As a video production company that's very nice to have!

Our two computer setups:

DESKTOP

Asus X99-A II MOBO
Nvidia GTX1080
ThunderboltEX3 (PCI-E card)
LG Ultrawide 38"
...

LAPTOP

Dell XPS 9650
Dell TB16 DOCK
LG Ultrawide 34" Curved (connected with Displayport in the TB16 dock, 4K 60HZ)
QNAP (Connected by Thunderbolt 3 in the TB16 dock)
Keyboard + Mouse (Connected by USB in the TB16 dock)

Now the problem,
Whenever we need to shutdown Dell XPS 9650 (connected to the TB16) the QNAP also powers down its second Thunderbolt 3 port connected to our desktop.

If we remove the TB16 dock and plug the TB3 cable from the QNAP straight into the laptop, and we shut it down, nothing happens. It keeps working perfectly with out desktop.

When the TB3 cable is connected in the TB16 dock at boot-up, non of the USB devices are recognized.

So there is a problem with the TB16 dock in combination with TB3 and it's powersettings.

Currently we are using the XPS 9650 without the TB16 dock.
Unfortunately the HMDI out of the XPS can't handle 4K 60hz.
As an video-editor 60hz is really necessary.

Does somebody have any idea what the problem might be?

Thanks in advance!

Dear,

More advanced touchpad software for XPS 15

I have an XPS 15 9560 that I absolutely love. It had a number of problems, most of which I've fixed but  the one that remains is a lack of advanced software to edit the behavior of my touchpad. On my lenovo I could bind a command to just about any action/part of the touch pad with synaptics. Here I have the Touchpad section in Win10 general settings but there's only a few options for both gestures and actions. If there's  synaptics software compatible with Dell computers  I can't find it. What can  I do to better edit my touchpad?

Thanks!

Solved Unknown Device Dell E6410

I did a fresh install of Windows 7 Pro 64-bit on a Dell E6410.

I did not have the original CDs nor the Drivers.

Lots of problems with drivers.

Dell Support Diagnostics could not solve all and I needed to do a lot of manual driver Updates and installations.

There was one “Unknown Device” seen in Device Manager.

I just could not identify what it was and even “Unknown Device Identifier” could not find it.

I came across a collection of Drivers in a “Pack” called “E6410-win7-ALL-D2H6P.CAB”.

Google or,

Dell TechCenter:

http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/enterprise-client/w/wiki/2088.latitude-e6410-windows-7-driver-cab

I downloaded it and unpacked it to its own Folder.

I then went into Device Manager and pointed “Update Driver” to the Folder.

It found a Driver and it turns out that the Device was “ST Micro Accelerometer”.

It can now be found in “System Devices”.

Dell Diagnostics could not find it and did not have the Drivers for it for Download.

I think that all 6410 owners should have this collection of Drivers.

Hope this helps someone.

AC apadter doesn't fit - incorrect info on Dell site

Hello!

I bought AC adapter 450-ABFS for my Inspiron 5558. Dell site claims that it is compatible with this model (link) so I ordered it delivery from other city.

But when package arrived I was surprised that the adapter does not fit the given model of the laptop. The problem is the plug - it is much larger than the connector of the laptop.

I attach the photos of the connectors: on the left is the connector from the old adapter, on the right - from the new one, which does not fit the laptop.

Why does the Dell website contain incorrect information? And what do I do with a purchased adapter that does not suit me?

What should i expect from a motherboard replacement?

I've been informed by Dell that they would need replace my motherboard in order to fix my broken headphone jack. Will a motherboard replacement restore my XPS15 to factory settings? will files and programs be lost? or will everything remain the same?

Dell Support Services Cause Event 1035 - Windows Installer has reconfigured ... for almost every program on my system

$

I have a Inspiron 5759 runing Windows 10.  I try to keep all Dell support services enabled e.g. SupportAssist, SupportAssist Remediation, Update, the various Vault services, etc.

As of about Sept 2017, updates to Windows 10 (preceding the 1709 update) and/or Dell support software has produced a situation where Windows Installer goes through a verification and re-configuration of almost all applications on my system.  Each of these operations is reflected by Event 1035 in the Windows Application log.

I can leave the following services enabled:  SupportAssist Agent, Foundation Services, Digital Delivery, and Update.  If I enable the Vault Collector/Processor/SvcAPI, and I believe SupportAssist Remediation, Customer Connect, and Help&Support, I begin getting bursts of Event 1035.

The problem began before 1709 was installed and has continued after.

There are web articles describing how this situation is hazardous and can result in application corruption. Hence I am inclined to leave these services disabled.

Dell uses PC Doctor for its automated management and I see PCDr processes popping up now and then I expect related to the background services as well as scheduled tasks.  Hence I am not able to narrow down the circumstances that produce these reconfiguration operations.

Any insights from Dell support staff would be appreciated, notably what is compromised by disabling the services I noted above.

Please see link below for background info:

support.microsoft.com/.../event-log-message-indicates-that-the-windows-installer-reconfigured-al

Thanks.
