For my recently purchased Dell Inspiron 7577, I found another issue with HDMI output. The problem is that, when I connected to my external monitor (ASUS PB278) via HDMI cable, there is NO signal during the boot process of computer, which means that I cannot enter bios, select boot devices, etc. using external monitor, since I CANNOT see it.  However, the signal indeed output starting from the login screen of WINDOWS 10. Has anyone encountered the similar problem? Can someone in DELL help me? Thanks!

Hi All,

My Dell XPS15 9550 went black screen while using MS Office (Outlook) and after that cannot turn on; once press the power button, show power light for several seconds and gone.  Nothing on screen, no beep, no fan running, just power light only.  Tried all posts suggested procedures and failed. Detach battery, drain all power left, Ctrl+Esc then pluin power, also the same.

PLEASE PLEASE Help me!  I can do NOTHING without this computer.

Error updating bios on Inspiron 15 3558

I'm attempting to update my bios while troubleshooting a 'plugged in, not charging' condition.  I went through the support pages, entered the service tag, and it recognized the computer as an Inspiron 3558.

It listed one bios driver, which I downloaded, but when I run the exe it gives me this message:

Cannot update a Inspiron 5559 with a BIOS for Latitude E6530

Confusing.  Anyone have ideas?

Thanks

E6420 corrupted bios problem

Hello all,

I was happy user of E6420 until last week, when the device has stopped to boot. After power up there is a dell logo, progress bar on the bottom of the screen, progress goes to 100%, then all or +-upper half of the screen is going blank - and that is all. No access to bios, no os boot.

After some basic checkings (disc, memory, cmos clear) i gave up and gave my lap to repair. Electronics has said that they reflashed (by desoldering the chip) the bios and the lap was alive again until they booted the windows 10. After this they had to reflash the bios again. They claim that e6420 is not prepared for win 10 and they suggest going back to win 7. This was astonishing for me. Can anybody confirm that? There are normal support for win 10 drivers for e6420 on del www. How win 10 could corrupt the bios?

The other thing is that there are 2 os'es on the HD: win 10 and debian jessie and grub which let the user to choose the os. I was using rather linux than windows the day before the crash. They cannot boot the linux as it is on the encrypted partition.

But they are booting some systems (i do not know what systems) from usb without problems.

Is it possible that this is really win 10 problem? Can this be a virus or something? Can this be grub or linux problem? Is this possible to reflash the corrupted bios on e6420 without desoldering the chip?

Thank you for any suggestions and help.

Best regards,

jb

Alienware 17 R4 Battery won't charge over 99%

So I bought my laptop the previous Summer. It's Alienware  17 R4 I used just 7-8 times but I faced an annoying problem.

The laptop's battery won't charge over 99%! it says: "plugged in, not charging", it's been an hours and it's still stuck.

in the bios battery health Show message error "this battery has experienced a permanent failure and needs to be replaced"

I remember this problem occur when I upgraded the drivers to latest version including BIOS

I focused in the bios because most people face this problem battery with the bios upgrade

I tried to downgrade to previous versions but still the same problem , I tried to press F9 in BIOS Setting to "load Default" after reboot the problem still exist

I tried to unplug the laptop battery and bios battery and plug them back and the problem persist

Dell Inspiron 11 3000 series OS install

Morning all,

I'm trying to fix a friend's Dell Inspiron 11 3167 (I think that is the #) as it was filled to the brink with files and programs only leaving 500mb of the 30GB free. I cleared enough to try backing up the files which worked. I then tried to restore the laptop to factory specs which got to 81%, sat there for 10 minutes and then a message saying the operation could not be completed with the only option being to cancel.

I hit cancel and the machine restarts to the diagnosis program. Everything checks out only now it will not boot and keeps cycling through the Dell screen at the beginning.

My guess - OS is now corrupt since the program stopped at 81% telling me it couldn't complete. So now I'm stuck with a laptop that won't boot.

Is it possible to get Windows 10 back on this?

Thanks in advance!

Hey Dell forums,

I know this might not be the place for this question but I've already posted in the ubuntu forums and am wondering if anyone here has input. I am running the XPS 13 9360 laptop with a Win10 and an ubuntu linux partition. I have recently upgraged ubuntu from 17.04 to 17.10 and now am unable to login to ubuntu. I keep getting an "authentication token manipulation error" on startup.

I am wondering if anyone with the same computer has seen a problem like this. Thanks

I can't even load the safe mode reset the data. I think that this might be because i got full storage but how can i delete stuff when i can't load anything except automatic repair.

SupportAssist deliver non relevant drivers for Latitude E6530

Laptop: Latitude E6530

OS: Win10 Pro

Recently installed Windows 10 on my E6530.

Installed Dell SupportAssist to detect and install adequate drivers fast and easy.

The problem is that DSA doesn't present adequate drivers.
For example: DSA says the current BIOS version is A13. My computer (Setup/BIOS and Windows>System Information) report A20.
It's more possible that the computer/BIOS gives the correct info.

DSA also present drivers that already are installed (the very exact version of each).
That it does not present correct updates for exclamation marked drivers (Device Manager) is something we are used to, even if one always wish that someday the driver detection system will get you that information (so that you doesn't have to surf around on your own to find it)...

So the conclusion is that Dell SupportAssist, in this case, doesn't fulfil its mission.
And the question: What will be a better (if not easier), and more secure way, to get the correct and needed drivers (the purpose is to get a system as “clean” as possible - i.e. not overloaded with unnecessary drivers and software)?

Thread Stuck in Device Driver Update Bios

Hi guys ,

I currently have an Alienware 15R3 with a recurrent  (BSOD) "Thread Stuck in Device Driver ".
It recently went worse as I cannot boot into windows without this BSOD coming up.

So I have decided to update my bios (currently in A06) through safe mode.
However Murphy's law strike again as i get the "Unable to Load driver" error message when I execute the Bios update file.

So i have decided to set up a Freedos on my USB stick and I copy the Bios Update file downloaded from Dell website in order to execute the Bios Flash Update directly from the Bios (F12 on launch --> Bios Flash Update) .
However , another problem strike,  once in the GSET Bios Flash Update I cannot use the left / right arrow from the keyboard (only the ups and downs work) in order to select the bootable disk and run the program. I tried to plug another Keyboard through USB same problem .

My Bios is open and I have no restriction in paramter of anykind.

This is a story when everything goes wrong , so if anyone can help me I would really really appreciate .

Thank you guys and Best Regards

Guillaume

XPS 9550 Battery swelling recall... can't place order on dellproduct.com

I recently got the recall notice for the battery swelling issue. In fact, as I'm typing this I see my trackpad sticking up above the base because the battery is swelling.  Anyways, I've gone to dellproduct.com to order my new battery and everything is fine until the very last step where I need to submit the order... clicking on "Next" to submit it does nothing. I've tried different browsers but nothing happens.  I would love to know how I can get my new battery.  The site seems not to be working no matter how often I try.

Best additonal hard drive for Inspiron 7559 laptop

I need advice on what addtional hard drive I can install in my Dell Inspiron 7559 laptop.
Presently, it has a 1TB 2.5" SATA drive manufactured by Toshiba for Dell. The part number is 5K1VD. The specifications of this drive are: 400-AAYK; 1TB (5400rpm) Hybrid HDD with 8GB Flash 400-AAYK; 1TB (5400rpm) Hybrid HDD with 8GB Flash
I want to install a 250GB hard drive that I could use as the boot drive and for my programs and apps. The Toshiba drive would be for data and backups.
I’ve done some research and found that the following drive is often recommended as a boot drive for the 7559: SAMSUNG 850 EVO M.2 250GB SSD SATA III Internal Solid State Drive MZ-N5E250BW.
I’m wondering if anyone has had any experience with installing this drive in their 7559? Specifically, I’d be grateful if anyone could answer the following questions:

1.      Can this drive be installed in the 7559 without a lot of tweaks?

2.      Are there any guides on the Internet to installing this drive in the 7559?

3.      Will the Samsung 850 EVO M.2 work with the Toshiba 5K1VD?

4.      When I buy the Samsung 850 will I need to buy a tray and cable?

5.      What changes, if any, need to make to bios in order to be able to boot from the Samsung 850?

6.      Do I have to identify the Toshiba drive in a particular way in the bios?

7.      Can I just download Windows 10 and install it on the Samsung 850 and then reformat the Toshiba drive so it is a clean drive (I am presently locked out of it because of a malware infection and would just like to wipe it clean – I have no valuable data on it)?

8.      Finally, is there a better 250GB drive that I could install in my 7559?

My thanks in advance for whatever advice and help anyone can provide

CD Drive not recognized reinstalling windows - Latitude E7250

Team

I'm trying to reinstall windows 7 64bit off the Dell CD. I have an external DVD drive plugged in as this laptop doesn't come with a drive.

I get part way through and it asks for drivers for the CD/DVD drive - but there are none..

After 12 hours of googling I've found Windows 7 installation media does not have support for USB3 ports - this laptop only ahs USB3.. How the *** do I get around this?

"Windows 7 install media doesn’t have native support for USB3.0"

I've downloaded the Dell 7250 CAB and extracted it to the C Drive of the laptop I'm trying to re-install to, and when it scans for suitable drivers, it doesn't find anything compatible to allow the DVD drive to be seen.

What do I do? How do I get the laptop to recognize the external drive?

Thanks

Updating Dell Inspiron 3537 System BIOS

While analyzing my system to find the latest updates, from Dell website, I was recommended to install Dell Inspiron 3537 System BIOS.  It was a manual installation and when I tried installing, the first message was whether I would want to downgrade my firmware!  So I am confused.  The recommended upgrade will downgrade my firmware??  Is it OK?  Should I go ahead with this upgrade?  Appreciate your suggestions/feedback.

What is causing this stuttering issue with my XPS 9560?

See this clip of the stuttering that's been happening to me while gaming:

Any idea what's causing this?

I've already been trying to resolve frequent FPS drops due to thermal throttling, but this issue is also happening more frequently and I'm not sure if it's related.
