When I start my computer up I get this "Notification dll has not been registered program will not work correctly"  I have windows 7 if that makes any difference.  I've looked at other posts on this website but nothing was of any help.  I've tried restoring my computer to an earlier time before I recieved the error and it still does the same thing.  I've used a regestry cleaner and a ton of other stuff that just isn't working and I've tried to contact customer support and I can't even get through by sending an e-mail.

Lost access to Recovery Partition on Dell Inspiron 1370

Hi there. After conducting many searches on several search engines, majority of which point me to use the F8 method, I have come to my wits' end.

The closest to my issue that I found is located on the following thread: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19447845.aspx

Unfortunately, that still does not help.

I need a recovery image for this computer, and the closest I can get to are websites asking for $20 for access to these images!

There is a Recovery partition residing in R: and pressing F8 does not give me the option to fix windows, or run the recovery manager.

I've tried doing a Repair via a Windows USB Stick I created from the official Windows 7 64-bit SP1 images from Microsoft. And it says there's nothing to repair!

The Recovery partition is a good 10GB. Half of which is used by what I would like to assume is the recovery image.

This machine was a refurb, and one thing I noticed when I got it was that the Recovery partition is easily seen in Windows Explorer. I mean it shouldn't right?

I'm pretty technical and have tried as much as I can to get this issue resolved. If it weren't for several Windows-specific programs, I would have installed a Linux distribution by now!

Here's to hoping that someone can assist me on this one.

Dell XPS 15 L502X - Frequent Freezing Issues at Start up

Hi Guys,

Experiencing a series of odd issues that I hope someone can provide insight into!

Today, I restored my Dell XPS 15 to factory settings (i.e. Day 1 set up). I initially did this as I was experience freezes/crashes running certain games, and suspected a driver or two may had been uninstalled/installed incorrectly.

Upon booting up my system (post-factory reset), the system is freezing within a minute or two of starting, generally when I try to open any program (Internet explorer, etc.). I am able to boot in safe mode without any issues (which is allowing me to make this post!).

Additionally, I've preemptively ran the hardware diagnostic test (F12 on boot up), and am receiving error code 0146.

Not sure how to troubleshoot this one and don't want to cause any further harm to my laptop, so any information the community can offer is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Brendon

A laptop from hell

A dell studio laptop costed me brand new from dell £1190, and from the minute I switched on it kept restarting itself. I thought it was because of a download or something that I've dont to it, but it wasn't the case. after 2 months been like this, I've decided to send it back to dell, and they changed the motherboard, as the automatic restart turned out to be a common issue. Motherboard was changed and laptop shipped back to me, and the problem was persistant. Its been 2 and a half years now, and it has never been a stable laptop, despite every tweeks in the book been tried on this horrible machine. Recently, I bbegan having bluescreens and windows not starting up, not because malwares and viroses, but because of windows updates. I have reformatted the laptop for the 100th times 2 days ago, and decided to stop all updates, to see if I can enjoy ONE day without restart or crash.

Thanks DELL

Dell V131 Sometimes won't boot or gives a BSOD before startup

My wife has been having this issue for the past 4-6months. I finally got around to buying her an SSD and doing a clean install of windows thinking it was a windows issue.

Now, it still does it, which means it might be a hardware issue. This is what happens.

Sometimes when you try to boot the laptop (cold boot after shutting down and sitting for a few hours/days). It hangs at the BIOS page with the status bar stuck around 40%, I left it on at this screen for over 30mins before and no moment unless I hold down the power key and shut it off and try it again. Eventually it will boot into windows fine.

Thats the first issue, the second issue with i think could be related. Again sometimes on cold boot, I would get a BSOD before windows loads. (I can try to get a picture of the BSOD if you think that will help next time it happens). I swapped RAM slots thinking that might help but nope. I was going to buy new ram, but i dont want to if it's not going to solve the problem.

Any ideas on what it could be? I've updated the bios to the latest A06 i believe a long time ago when she was having other issues. This boot problem only happened after the bios update. I almost want to try downgrading to A05 but im not sure if thats possible.

Any ideas?

Inspiron 17 7737 i7 laptop will not Shut Down, reboots by itself.

My laptop will not respond to the on-screen power buttons, only the physical button above the keypad.  When I use the mouse to shut down the unit with the on-screen power icons it appears to shut down normally (the fans stop, the screen goes black, etc.) but a second or two later it reboots. When I press the physical button, the unit shuts down and stays shut down. This laptop arrived three days ago loaded with Windows 8.0. I successfully updated it to windows 8.1 and began loading programs (QuarkXPress, Office, DropBox, etc).  I do not notice if the problem occurred before the upgrade.  Has anyone else had this problem and is there a solution?

Thanks

M4800 with E-Port Plus II - No initial video, peripheral use

When my M4800 laptop is connected to an E-Port Plus II docking station, it's as if the dock is not fully recognized at first.  Video is not passed through to external displays and USB devices are not functional.  With the required entry of a BitLocker PIN on boot, I have to open the laptop and type the PIN on the laptop keyboard, close the lid, and then the systems boots the rest of the way with all devices functioning.

The system has the latest A04 BIOS, running Windows 8.1 using UEFI and Secure Boot.  Any ideas on where I can troubleshoot next?

N5110 hinge break: irreparable?

Hi there,

I have an out of warranty Inspiron 15R N5110 (3 years old). Our fan stopped working, so I opened the body up to have a look at it, but found during the disassembly that our laptop never came with a metal hinge bracket for the base part of the right hinge. Because of this, when I unscrewed the hinge screws, the screw holders (typically below and held firm in place by the metal bracket) snapped off.

It doesn't look to be something I can replace, because what snapped looks to be a part of the bronze/metal frame that runs throughout the bottom of the casing.

The part that snapped looks a bit like a tiny screw end cap, insulated in a ring of metal-looking plastic.

If you know the part of the machine I'm talking about, Is there any way this could be fixed? Because otherwise I have a £800 paperweight!

Thanks Dell team.

Laptop Touchscreen Stops Working Issue Possibly SOLVED!!

Originally I posted in a different forum, just trying to reach out to those in need as I once was.....:

Attention Everyone

This is the problem with most Tech Support teams.....they look too deeply into the problem and not at its face value. The Touchscreen driver is a HID USB Input device. Meaning the computer does not know if a device is being used until it actually is. I went round and round with Dell Tech Support and all they managed to do was update drivers that didn't need it and one young lady actually downloaded the wrong device thinking the touch screen is a part of Dell Touchpad, aka MOUSE!!! REALLY!!!

Think about it, if you are not using the touchscreen and keeping it active, in this energy efficient world and age, a system would turn off unnecessary devices!!

THE SOLUTION: Device Manager - Universal Serial Bus Controllers - Generic USB Hub Properties -( Under POWER tab: the one that  has "HID-compliant Device 100mA" attached) Power Management - UNCHECK-"Allow computer to turn off this device to save power"

If you have problems or not sure if it the correct HID-compliant Device, just look under the Driver Details and hit the drop down box to scroll through all those different labels until it clearly says "Touchscreen" under "Bus Reported Device Description"

Fixed my problem pretty easily.

As the sounding of my post can be taken as a bit on the rude/sarcastic/completely irritated side, it is intended to hopefully save other consumers from being forced to troubleshoot their own problems without resetting their entire computer's OS wasting countless hours of downloading and restarting computer. My main objective is to give Tech Support a hopefully quick fix to what seems to be a large and growing issue.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Sincerely

XPS L702x Cursor Jumps all over the screen

I use a Logitech wireless mouse with my laptop and it has been functioning fine for two years. But now, the cursor has starting jumping around the screen erratically. I had a tech guy clean it up to be sure it wasn't a virus. I've updated the bios and the driver and that didn't help. Disabling the touchpad in control panel or with FN+F3 doesn't work either . So I uninstalled the touchpad driver but it keeps reinstalling when I reboot. I've followed the previous suggestions in the forums, but I still can't resolve the issue. Is there a way to prevent windows from reinstalling the driver? I am running windows 7.

Alienware laptop specs not as ordered

I have just purchased a alienware 17 laptop , when I placed order I had the option to choose an 256gb msata with 2x750gb raid 0 hard drives option which I did ... when I got my laptop only had the 265 msata and 1 750gb hard drive ... I maxed out the internal parts on the machine , 4900mq 32gb ram 3d screen and it said save $300 on all this so I ordered it thinking I would have a good spec machine at 3k+ it should be and still is  ...if I go to web page and max out whats online now It still works out to what I am paying so not sure where the save $300 bit  is lol ,but anyway when I look at my order online it shows 256msata and 750gb drive. which is now showing on website ...not the one I had ordered to begin with ,no one notified me there was going to be a change in my order ... if I knew I would have went with alienware 18... but I was really looking forward to this machine but now feel ripped off .... anyone else had that happen ? ... I  will keep this machine but it probably will be my last dell laptop, I don't expect dell will try fix it and calling tech support wont make a new drive appear.

Xps L501x startup problem

So I recently had a problem with an LCD cable being loose on my laptop and had it fixed at a local repair shop($200) since I got my laptop 3 years ago and it is out of warranty. Since then I have a dead battery and a laptop that isn't starting up right. I checked to make sure it wasn't just a battery issue by switching batteries with my friends and the same startup problem happens so I dismissed it being solely a battery problem. When I press the power button above the keyboard it does nothing, when I remove and then re-insert the battery, it powers on and shows the dell logo and the xps name underneath and the blue bar begins to load up, gets 2/3 of the way full and then the laptop shuts off completely. It doesn't matter if its charging or not. What could be the problem and is it worth trying to save the laptop or should I buy a new one? With MacBook pro's costing a little bit less than I bought this laptop for I'm thinking about making the switch since I'm not even allowed to call tech support at dell without being charged

Thanks for any help,

Dennis

Dell XPS 13 ultrabook keys stopped working

I have a 1,5 year old XPS 13 ultrabook. Since a week a number of keys stopped working without any obvious reason. I noticed first with the G and H key which sometimes didn't respond. This became worse and now they don't do anything anymore. I tested the other keys and so far also the F4, F5 and F6 keys stopped working.

How to get this fixed?

Thanks!

Dell Inspiron N5110 Shuts Down When Moving the Laptop

$

I have a Dell Inspiron N5110 laptop from my friend.  The laptop shuts down as soon as it is moved.  It keeps on working fine when it is sitting on the desk.

Here are some observations:

  1. It exhibits the problem for all the three cases:
    1. With only battery on.
    2. With only adapter on and battery removed.
    3. With both of them on.
  2. Once it shuts down, it does not turn back on by merely pressing the power button.  I have to remove the battery out to get it to power on again.

The fact that it happens with only battery on and with only adapter on, I don't think it is a loose connection issue.  Also the fact that it happens even when both the battery and the adapter is on, that also tells me that it is not a loose connection issue, because if I remove the battery slowly (so as to not trigger the issue) while it is powered on and the adapter connected, the laptop continues to work.  This means that if the battery connection was loose or something, it would not shut down if the adapter is connected.

The fact that it cannot be turned back on without removing the battery tells me that it is probably related to overheating.  But obviously there is no real overheating issue here, this happens even when the laptop is just turned on.  But it could be that the overheating detection mechanism is falsely triggering and shutting down the laptop and then it won't let it turn on since it now wants to wait for it to cool down.  (I haven't tried to wait for an hour or two before turning it on without replacing the battery - that would be a good test to verify the theory).

Could it be a loose fan on the motherboard?  Maybe the fan gets disconnected and the laptop thinks that there is no fan in the system and decides to shut down.

Here is the ironic part.  This laptop was sent to Dell twice for the exact same issue when it was under warranty.  They supposedly replaced the motherboard, but the problem was not fixed.  Now it is not under warranty any more.  Do you guys think Dell should still honor it since it is the same issue that was originally reported.

Dell inspiron N5010 Overheating problems

Hello!

After using this laptop for around 4 years, it started sometimes to shudown itself. I've found out that it is due to high temperature, which normally stays about 65++ degrees, and with a slight work up to 85 degrees for both CPU and Motherboard. Speed Fan software doesn't show fan's speed, but BIOS does (can't change there). I would like to ask, if BIOS update (current version A04) would help? Is it possible to update straight from A04 to latest A015? Or is it necessary to do in some steps? I'm afraid of damaging BIOS forever, are there any methods to recover it in case of failure? Or I should just try to open the laptop and search for mechanical problems? P.s. windows reinstalling doesn't help. P.p.s this temperature also causes lag.

Thanks in advance! :)
