Keyboard failure

$

A few days ago my four year old Inspiron 15 keyboard began to malfunction. Space bar and a couple of keys don’t work. The only response I’ve had from Dell is a quote of $165 to replace the keyboard. I consider this excessive. The 15 7000 series is quite an expensive laptop and though I’ve been pleased with it the laptop malfunction and lack of support (no information offered as to who will do the job andvwherebtomtake/send it) has shaken my confidence. Can anyone offer a cheaper solution?

KEYBOARD ISSUE

I have a dell E7250 which keyboard seems to be working fine, but the follow keys with both numbers and letters are mess up: The U=4; M=0, K=2, L=3, P=*, J=1, O=/. So, whenever I hit any of these letters I get a number representation. How do I disable the numbers to have the letters only?

Dell 5537 randomly turns off

Hello

I have Dell 5537 (service tag<Service Tag removed>) and it randomly shuts down. Before shutting down it throttles all cpu and integrated gpu. Temperatures are always fine, just under or around 50°C. Most frequently happens when watching videos in youtube/using google chrome or working in autocad/ axisvm 13 or just randmly no matter what tasks laptop is doing. I tried different drivers(including bios drivers), tried reinstalling operating system, run different diagnostics and nothing helps. Diagnostics always shows that everything fine. I did plug out all devices, ac adapter and push "on/off" button for 15 seconds but it didnt help as well. i tried changing power plans.

Before turning off, if music or video is playing, sounds gets mud, dizzy and chirp/crack. After turning it again on, it displays message that computer didnt shut down correctly and allows to pick normal startup or safe. In safe mode it acts the same, it can work fine or it can start to throttle and shut down.

Please, help me, what can be causing these issues and how to fix my laptop?

Inspiron 17R BIOS Woes

Hi. I've managed to somehow (well, three failed password attempts!) to lock out my BIOS and ended up with the 'Password / unlock key & unlock key hint number' screen on my Inspiron 17R SE 7720

I rang tech support and provided my serial and express codes (they had no interest in the hint number for some reason?) and  they provided me with a 'master' code to unlock the BIOS.  Unfortunately this did not work, so they advised that now my only choice is to pay over £200 for a new replacement  motherboard?  Surely this can't be right...?  Can another code not be generated (I've read the wiki and know codes cant be provided over the forum - i'm after some clarification and guidance)?  Also, on my old Vostro, if i get the BIOS password wrong 3 times it shuts down, and I can retry later - so why can't I do the same with the Inspiron? If i removed the CMOS battery would this get me back to the enter password prompt (i'm fairly sure it won't clear the BIOS password for security reasons), rather than the infuriating 'password / unlock key' screen?? :(

Cursor problem

Hi, I have an Inspiron 17 windows 10 home

My problem is that the mouse cursor keeps jumping to the top of the screen.

I have searched the internet and tried several suggested solutions ( unchecked enhance pointer precision, disabled touchpad ) nothing seems to work unless I turn off the laptop and turn it back on,  but it doesn't last for long until it does it again, and I can't do anything when it happens.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

APC_INDEX_MISMATCH (1)
This is a kernel internal error. The most common reason to see this
bugcheck is when a filesystem or a driver has a mismatched number of
calls to disable and re-enable APCs. The key data item is the
Thread->CombinedApcDisable field. This consists of two separate 16-bit
fields, the SpecialApcDisable and the KernelApcDisable. A negative value
of either indicates that a driver has disabled special or normal APCs
(respectively) without re-enabling them; a positive value indicates that
a driver has enabled special or normal APCs (respectively) too many times.
Arguments:
Arg1: 0000000076fcbdaa, Address of system call function or worker routine
Arg2: 0000000000000000, Thread->ApcStateIndex
Arg3: 000000000000ffff, (Thread->SpecialApcDisable << 16) | Thread->KernelApcDisable
Arg4: fffff88007c46b60, Call type (0 - system call, 1 - worker routine)

inspiron 15 5537 turns off

$

Hello,

I have dell 5537 (service tag<Service Tag removed>) and it randomly turns off. After, when turning laptop on, message appears that ''windows was not shut down correctly''. Before random shutdown system always throttles, cpu and integrated gpu (temperatures are fine, thermal paste was replaced few months ago and it can happen when windows just started). It can happen even in safe mode. I tried almost everything, ran different diagnostic tests including dell tests, always passes everything (if doesnt turn off while performing test), reinstalled windows, many times replaced drivers(and tried different ones, from amd/intel and from dell), nothing helps.

How to fix this problem and what could be causing it?

Hello all. I would like to replace the HDD in this laptop with a Western Digital Scorpio Black WD2500BEKT 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s. I'm not interested in upgrading to an SSD nor do I need much space with this machine. That HDD is 9.5mm height. Thank you.

2016 Dell XPS 15 9550 Won't Turn Off

$

To whom it may concern-

I have a Dell XPS 15 9550 that has begun displaying one prominent issue: it will not shut down even after I initiate shutdown, both by pressing and holding down the power button, and when I go to the start menu to shut it down.

About three seconds after I shut my laptop down through both means, it will begin turning on by itself. I thought that at first, it was one of my peripherals or plugged-in devices that was causing the issue- I tested each device one by one, unplugging each until I finally got to my power cord.

My laptop will only shut down if it is unplugged from the power cord. Otherwise, it will automatically initiate startup on its own if plugged in to a power source. Why is this happening? Should I see if there are any BIOS updates that can fix this issue? This is a fairly new occurence.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Latitude E6430 battery bad & Keyboard not working

So this is the laptop I have an E6430. The battery is not that good and needs to be replaced. At times with this battery in the keyboard does not work. If I take out the battery and then put it back in and restart it then the keyboard works. Does this seem normal? Could a bad battery affect how the keyboard reacts.

Problem extracting / backing up hard drive data from Precision 3520

$

My new Precision 3520 mobile workstation is down after only 3 days of use, OS won't start normally. I decided to return it anyway.

So I need to back up hard drive data first. But new problems prevented me from doing it...

Info on my Precision 3520:
OS: Ubuntu 16.04
HDD: Seagate ST500LM021, 500GB 7200RPM

What I did:
Take out the Precision 3520 hard drive, and connect it as a USB device to my old Inspiron N5050 laptop (runs windows 7).
The connection is done via an Insignia SATA-to-USB 3.0 converter, it worked fine with other HDD of comparable model (a Seagate Momentus 5400.6, 500GB 5400RPM).

Problem:
Upon connection, the driver is successfully installed, but the HDD shows up as having only 2GB size, with only OS files inside.
The rest 400+GB of disk, with user data, can't be found.

How to solve this?

Just in case if you need this -- the Precision 3520 can't enter OS desktop.
After displaying the Ubuntu start up logo, it got stuck there with black screen, keyboard not responsive, but the following error message pops on and off once every 2-3 seconds:
[***:*****] pcieport 0000:00:1c.0: PCIe bus error: severity=corrected, type=data link layer, id=00e0(transmitter ID)
[***:*****] pcieport 0000:00:1c.0: device [8086:a111] error status/mask=00001000/00002000
[***:*****] pcieport 0000:00:1c.0: [12] Replay timer timeout
(Note: those *** are some random numbers)

Running the pre-boot hardware diagnosis shows all devices are normal.
And it can still enter BIOS setting.

After clearing "power event log" in BIOS setting, the error message above disappeared, but the same problem persists.
(Now I'm not concerned about this OS start up problem, because I'll return it anyway. What I want to solve is the HDD data backup issue!)

I appreciate anyone who can help me on it!

XPS 13 (9333) BIOS updated killed my laptop!

I went through the driver upgrade on the Dell website after recently upgrading to Win10 and the last step was a BIOS update. It did it's thing and then reset never to work again!

I've been told there is no BIOS recovery on this model, however it does respond to the Phoenix BIOS recovery key (hold END then plug in power and power light will flash) but I have no idea how to get it to recover the ROM from USB as per the standard Pheonix recovery on other models.

My questions are

1) can anyone explain this recovery method to me or if they've found another way to revive the laptop

2) since I'm out of warranty will Dell give me any help at all. Surely they can't allow their software to kill their laptop and not be responsible?

Thanks in advance

7700HQ throttled to a crawl

I reported this issue to Intel and I got this response:
This is usually caused by an incorrect configuration setting within the BIOS. We can't help you with BIOS issues on non-Intel products.

The only thing I have ever changed in BIOS is to disable Secure Boot as I am using non-UEFI and secure boot enabled Windows 10 installation.

I turned on my Dell Ispiron 7567 and it felt very sluggish. Then I took this screenshot:

According to Windows 10 Pro Fall Creators Update Task Manager it was running at 0.47 GHz and it wouldn't go any higher. The laptop was completely cool as I just turned it on. BTW I am running a power profile set to TDP 35W.

Even opening a folder would take a few seconds. Windows sounds were very laggy and choppy. I asked Windows to shut down the laptop and after the screen went dark. It took over a minute to turn off all lights. Fan is usually not running and I am using SSD so there aren't any other noises.

After I rebooted Task Manager agrees with CPU-Z - the CPU is idling at around 0.89GHz and everything is running smoothly as usually. CPU is going over 1GHz when loaded.

Any ideas what might be causing the throttling?

How do I report BIOS bugs to Dell?

laptop dead, ticking noise when charged

hello,

so my dell laptop is dead. it got handled a little rougher during transport then wished for but still not to be expected. i bought it 2nd hand so warrenty probably is not an option even though it still is quite young, dont have the paperwork with me atm anyways.

so no response whatsoever on anything i try. putting the charger in will generate a ticking noise. tried power button after removing the battery but still the same sound. it seems to derive from a square metal part on the.motherboard next to where the battery is connected to the motherboard. number on it is 2r2416303, above it on the motherboard is written pl102, pl105, BATT. the part gets insanely hot after attaching the charger so it pulled it out as fast as i could. tried different chargers as wel result was the same.

the part seems to have something do with the charging, is there a way repairing this

? and what part is broken?perhaps the power plug is broken?

thanks and goodnight!

Hi guys,

I Bought a Dell Inspiron 15 5570 from Canada and brought that to India. Once i was in India i came to know that there has been a small crack on top right corner of the Laptop. Unfortunately I had regional warranty limited to Canada. I also have applied for Ownership transfer from Canada for transferring the warranty of my laptop to India but when i spoke to Dell India, they say that the warranty which will be transferred to india wont have any effect in India and i have to purchase a new warranty in India.

This is a new laptop and i purchased on 1st of December 2017 from Official Dell website Canada.

If someone is able to help me in this regard it would be great[:)]

E-Port Replicator poor fit for Precision 3510

Through work, I have a Precision 3510 and docking station (E-Port Replicator (331-7950)) through our IT department. According to Dell support, the E-Port Replicator is the correct one to use with a 3510, but there's a 3 inch gap between the back of the laptop and the docking station because the bus socket is located at the back of the laptop instead of the middle.

Is there a way to fix this? Everything works fine, but it makes the whole setup look flimsy and badly designed.

I have the Dell Inspiron 5559 for a while and working perfectly.

One day the shortcut keys in the keyboard stopped working (volume up, down, mute, etc.).

I didn't find any relevant driver in the site and updating all other drivers didn't help.

I'm running windows 10.

Any idea about what can i do about it?

thanks
